Best part of the video for me was the “I’m old enough where I don’t care anymore” line. There’s an insight there that shouldn’t go unnoticed. Thanks guys.
Guys, I've just started getting into bourbon...except for the Evan Williams Honey...which I've liked for some time now. Being able to watch the videos that you produce have made the "transfer" to the REAL stuff a whole lot easier !! Thank You both for what you are doing ....and PLEASE.... Continue on !!! ..... Ron Cee
In Ohio Dickel BiB is up near $50 but I still grabbed a backup bottle just last week. I think it is beautifully balanced, cherries, oak, tobacco, a balance of earthy and sweet. It has a wonderful finish too. Its a go to for me. Hits well above $50 price even in Ohio, next time Im in Indiana, if I see one for $30 im picking up 2.
I had an old fashioned in Mexico in the fancy cocktail bar the resort has(great place). So it was made with Old Grandad BiB, orange bitters, simple syrup, thin orange slice slightly muddled, over a clear cube, no cherry. It was fantastic. A must try. I did it in quick, got another.
i feel cherries are good in certain cherry forward bourbons like a four roses single barrel , def helps bring out the flavors , but most others ive found just need orange bitters and orange slice
As a bourbon drinker for the past 40 years I really appreciate your channel. My good friend’s father in law was a JW Dant fan. Good in old fashions. OGD BIB is a staple in my bar that I pull out for bourbon snobs. I’ve recently bought the Dickel bourbon and 15 year and found both to be decent but did not live up to the hype.
Great video, I didn't go through all the comments so I apologize if this is repeated but J.W. Dant, Evan Williams, and JTS Brown are all Heaven Hill products and are the same mashbill. It's great that they can get so much mileage and different tasting notes with what is basically the same whiskey. Cheers!
Finally was able to get a bottle of JW Dant while visiting KY last week. It was about 15-17 which is still great value but that is the only time I've ever seen it. Very small distribution outside of KY it seems. I really like and for the price it's fantastic.
My two cents worth: It seems to me that most bourbon lovers aren’t willing to cough up wads of cash for an expensive whiskey that is only marginally better. And in my area (NW Piedmont of NC), the selection is limited compared to what is available in other areas, usually other adjacent states. I love your videos, and you guys are the BEST in the business!! 👍🥃
Thanks for the bottled-in-bond video Kurt and Trent. That 100 proof is my sweet spot. I only have the EW and it's a good bottle for the money. I would love to get a bottle of the Early Times BiB but have never seen it here in Rhode Island or in my travels. Keep up the good work.
LOL. I sit back and listen to the conversation and relationship you guys have on Bourbons and picture "little Trenton" around 16 (I know) sitting there with Dad when Mom is gone and taking notes....and making notes if you know what I mean. The convos make this!!
Dickel BIB sells for $80 at my local store in KC 😂. I have to buy out of state and ship it. Ends up around $40 total. But honestly I love this stuff and it’s worth it. I’m not sure where the bad press comes from. I prefer it over 90% of what I have in the bar. And when I bring friends in for some blind tasting, it always does well.
Nice video…just bought Evan Williams BIB and for the price, it’s very good! And Trenton at one point stated Old Grand Dad tasted like the fresh cut grass he MOWED the other day……we’re still shoveling fresh new snow up here in northern Minnesota!! Duluth broke record for the most recorded snowfall in one year!! (A good shot of bourbon helps alleviate this stress!!) Anyhow, keep up the great videos! Always look forward to them!
Fantastic video!! I really enjoyed the parts where you guys discussed the bourbon! Keep up the great work! I would also love to see the video idea you suggested! ❤️
My heart is crushed that Benchmark Bonded didn't even make honorary mention at about $22/bottle - especially since you fine folks next door in Indiana are blessed with it on your shelves pretty much everywhere. That stuff is SO good and, to me, totally indistinguishable from Early Times BiB. At some point, I'm going to have to break down at try the OGD BiB.
I have just started my bourbon journey. I decided to go from “bottom” to “top.” Feeling very vindicated with your suggestion due to the fact that this is the next bourbon I am wanting to try!
Hard to distinguish most likely because those diamond barons of the bourbon world Sazerac have now bought and ruined ET BIB, I USE TOO drink it regularly but now it taste like all the other Buffalo Trace stuff and not unique at its' price point & size to bother with. Enjoy all your Buffalo products.
19:04 Interesting that you started off with Early Times BiB. You can find it in the Nashville area pretty easily. Old Grandad BiB or 114…..”Fargettabouet”
The only thing I’ll say about the TN whiskey/bourbon argument is that anyone that says bourbon can’t be charcoal filtered should take a look at that EWBIB bottle and see that it also is charcoal filtered! Actually something I just noticed the other day when I was drinking it. Fantastic video as always!
Well, let's be very specific, here. Yes, EW BIB does charcoal filter their product, but it's already bourbon when they do it. Any adulteration BEFORE it goes into the barrel (the Lincoln County process) disqualifies it from being considered a bourbon, hence the reason Jack Daniel's can call itself Tennessee Whiskey and not bourbon.
I stumbled upon your channel around the New Year. I've been a bourbon drinker for a few years. But thanks to you 2, I've become obsessed with finding new bottles to try. And now I'm also planning a trip to KY and the bourbon trail with my wife for our next anniversary. I blame you guys! 😂
I came up to my bottle room and grabbed the George Dickel Bottled in bond, sat down and turned on the tube to see what you guys had going on and BAM!!!! Good show fella’s!!
Thank you for turning me onto whisky. It was one of those things that I wanted to get into but never knew where to start. I recently bought a few bottles you recommended having from your videos and I can already get the notes in each. It’s an exciting craft and brought my wife into watching your videos in our garage bar we just made and tasting with me. Looking forward to more videos. Plenty to catch up on! Glad I subscribed! Cheers from Arizona 🌵 ☀️ 🥃
Love the channel, guys. My wife and I watch them the morning they drop. I did a pretty good job calling the line-up. Called the EW and OGD and would have had the Sent if I thought it was available everywhere . For me Dent and Early Times are drain pours but that's just me. Surprised Old Forester didn't edge out the Dickel. Great job.
Picked up 2x bottles of Early Times BiB at my local Total Wine ($22 each) in Mesa AZ, but paid $52 for the Dickle BiB 13 year (Fall 2008). 😕😕 Thanks for the great video!
Kurt, you are correct on the Dickel issue, it is not worth the time to argue when you could be sipping. I can only wish that the state stores here in Montana watched your channel and spared some bourbon love over this region. Love the content and channel. keep up the good work.
Early Times has been allocated in Ohio for the past couple of years, but it has shown up often and I have not had any problem keeping it in stock in the bar. Old Grandad Bonded is one of the great values in bourbon and I always keep a bottle on hand. Love the video and it just shows that you don't have to spend a lot of money to enjoy some really good bourbon.
I absolutely love your videos! Kurt, your take is always worth hearing, and the way Trenton has so much fun as your worthy foil is priceless. Keep up the fantastic work!
Until you just pointed it out, I didn’t even notice you’re the only one of my bourbon channel favorites that doesn’t advertise stuff. That’s great. I wouldn’t begrudge you selling out for that easy money, I’d just skip right over the ads like I do on the other channel videos.
Just getting around to watching this. We have tried the JTS Brown, Old Grandad and the Dickel. The first two are bottles we always make sure we have on hand. The JTS Brown makes an excellent mixer also! It’s unfortunate Early Times is getting difficult to find because it can’t be beat in our opinion for the budgets.
I appreciate the Dickel add. I agree that the difference is *almost* semantics. You two aren't being audited for strict compliance! Lay the reasonable options and alternatives on the table! Literally. :)
Yea the Dickel is $50 in my area and I can’t the JD Dant or JTS Brown anywhere within 50 miles. But I have emptied lots of OGD bnb. Thanks for your input
Time Stamps: 01:34 - Early Times Bottled In Bond (special video mention) 02:49 - 1792 Bottled In Bond (special video mention) 03:42 - JW Dant Bottled In Bond 05:59 - Evan Williams Bottled In Bond 07:38 - JTS Brown Bottled In Bond 09:43 - Old Grand Dad Bottled In Bond 12:37 - George Dickel Bottled In Bond
Those are some solid picks. I've had the 11 year Dickel but not the 13 year. When Early Times was sold, I picked up about 8 bottles of the Brown Forman variety. Another great video.
I agree that Dickel BiB is great, far and away my favorite of the 5 featured in this video. However, it goes for $40 at TW in Louisville, and I've seen it higher at other stores, never lower than $40. Too bad I don't live within easy driving distance of Bee... Thanks for another interesting, entertaining video, guys!
FYI, check your local TW. Im in Texas and it was listed as $44 but I was only charged $33 at checkout. Reciept says Dickel Bonded and sku seemed to match.
Thanks for the video. OGD BIB is an excellent value (which I prefer to the hotter 114). I've got several bottles of the Early Times (like a lot of folks) getting ready to see what the Barton/Sazerac stuff will taste like. But, another one that is pretty good is Very Old Barton (although actually I prefer the 90 proof). Don't forget Jack Daniels has a BIB now too. I get the argument, but I can't get behind the Dickel BIB. I got a bottle and I didn't like what Kurt calls "minerality" and other reviewers call "Flintstone chewable vitamins".
Please don’t get Dant allocated!!! 😮😂 it finally found its way to Iowa! BTW this is a great list - at least the first 4 (and especially the first 3). Thanks and have a great weekend!
Got a bottle of the early times today and it was indeed allocated for 24.99 also grabbed a Henry McKenna 10 Buffalo trace single barrel select and blantons. That should round up my shopping for the month
Just stumbled on n this because I picked up a JW Dant BIB today. Thought, hey SLB should do a bottom shelf blind. The first 3 are HH and the exact same juice.
I love the old grandad, I had some at jfk airport while waiting to fly back to the UK. The Misses brought me 2 bottles of it back with her that she picked up at total wine for $25 each.
Hey gents. Started my burbon journey in October, found your channel and its been super helpful. Watched a ton of your stuff but in this one there was a lot more conversation on whether the bottle had been opened a while and even that they had been sitting there. I realize wine sitting changes but didnt realize what effects that has on burbon. Can you speak to that sometime or point me to a video that explains it...thanks. Keep up the good work.
I am not a big Bourbon guy...single malt is my passion...but this is still one of my most favorite TH-cam channels to watch. The intresteing thing for me is I love the Evan Williams. And like a year ago, or whenever, I bought a bottle of Early Times (old style bottle) and franky I hated it. Well hate is a stong word...I made it to the bottom mixing it in various cocktails. But recently I picked up some old Grand-Dad and this is really not that bad. So it is interesting Kurt that you give a sizeable thumbs up to both and one I hate and one I am really starting to like. But I guess that is what makes the whisky game interesting and fun.
@@slbdrinks definitely was the bottled in bond...I did question myself though and had to check some pictures on my phone. The bottle was older and had a good later of dust on it. There were 3 at the time and I almost bought them all. I've not seen it back on the shelves, in that store, since.
George Dickel BIB is $60 in my area. I'd love to try it after what Kurt said in the video. That's why I looked and saw the price. I just don't understand why it's double in CT/NY area what it is in IN. Things are a little more expensive like Evan Williams BIB being $20 instead of the $15 quoted but that's not double. The JW Dant, Early Times and JTS Brown aren't sold here. Distribution I can at least understand but pricing? Forget about it
Great job. I love those bottle in bond. There truly are a lot of them out there. Have y’all done one on the budget wheated and I missed? If I have I’m gonna have to go back and search again.
For me, JTS, JW Dant, OGD, EW, and Dickel in descending order. I thought JTS Brown BIB was only sold in Kentucky, but maybe distribution is expanding. Another great video and this should be helpful for people just getting into bourbon and learning their preference. Cheers!
It’s a good cheap supper for the money with some interesting tastes and the expected nuttiness. Like everything else, prices are increasing and it’s not as cheap as it used to be. I can’t find JTS BIB in SC so I always pick up a couple bottles when I get back to Kentucky. Maybe it will migrate south.
I don't see JW Dant or JTS Brown in my area, but I've wanted to try them for some time. I usually keep an Evan Williams BIB on hand and it is great for the money. I always have an OGD BIB on hand and I like Old Tub. Early Times BIB is one of my favorites, but it is hard to find in NC. I've never had the George Dickel BIB, but I like the George Dickel number 12. Although George Dickel meets the technical requirements to be a bourbon, they bill themselves as a Tennessee whisky. I have to be in the right frame of mind to want a Lincoln County Process (Maple charcoal filtered) whisky/bourbon. Keep up the great videos and reviews.
OGD BIB has been a staple on my bar cart since ya'll first introduced it. Haven't tried the others mentioned in this video, but think the EW would be up my alley!
The JW Dant and JTS Brown are NOT to be found in Arizona (at least in all the shops I visit) whereas the Early Times BOB is everywhere (which I love and am very grateful for).
Picked up my first Early Times BiB today down in South Carolina. $25... hard to beat that. Waiting for the explanation as to why the glass on Trenton's left has a heavy heavy pour. 😂
George dickel bib for an affordable, over early times? I must say I am very shocked haha. I live in Tennessee and it costs around $50 here! Great video as usual guys , love it!
I didn't check the age, but I saw Dickle BIB yesterday for $50. I passed. Brought home a bottle of Larceny with me (not BIB, but awesome anyway). I really love Old Grand Dad BIB, but am not a fan of the Evan Williams BIB. Haven't tried the others. Love the show!
Was not a big fan of Evan Williams BIB initially. Mine set on shelf for a year before I noticed and took a pour. Not sure if my palate changed or bourbon got better, but that bottled was finished soon. Absolutely delicious!
Guys I have all of those bottles! The 13 yr Dickel is much better than the 11y yr. I do like the Dickel the best of the bottles presented so good job Kurt. Here in Dallas it's more expensive around 34.99 at Total Wine.
Got the Dickel 13 here in Indy for $38 and I thought that was a good price. Less than $30 is a buy all day. Good stuff! Got the Old Tub on sale for $10. Hard to pass up at that price also. Good series!
Best part of the video for me was the “I’m old enough where I don’t care anymore” line. There’s an insight there that shouldn’t go unnoticed. Thanks guys.
Maybe not so "Young"! Cheers
That's old man wisdom right there. I'm an old man too so I can say that.
The unique thing about getting older is ya don’t care if your cool or not,,,which is what makes you so cool!
@@BB-sc1jv I’ve tried that line of reasoning to my kids. They’re not buying it!
@@DBTdad As am I, although I’m going to stick with my preferred adjective “wise”. 😀

I love the old grandad, I had some at jfk airport while waiting to fly back to the UK. The Misses brought me 2 bottles of it back with her that she picked up at total wine for $25 each.
Unfortunately in Keywest I don’t see any of these except the Evan Williams Bib, still trying to get an Early Times bib but no luck yet
A wealth of information, thank you both! I have a lot of homework to do!
You guys should taste test the single shots vs the bottle. Like the mini Maker's mark ones you find near the check out and the 750 ml
Wondering if you got the Early Times bottle in bond? I dislike the low end Early Times as well.
@@slbdrinks definitely was the bottled in bond...I did question myself though and had to check some pictures on my phone. The bottle was older and had a good later of dust on it. There were 3 at the time and I almost bought them all. I've not seen it back on the shelves, in that store, since.
You got that right. I haven't seen Early times in Florida Alabama or Arkansas in three years
Although I enjoy the OGD straight up, maaannnn...as a mixer in my Manhattans- spot on.
Always enjoy your videos fellas. Keep up the good work!
Haven't opened my JTS Brown yet (like the JW Dant, only seen in KY personally) so definitely looking forward to it now.
Cheers!
Hi. JTS is in Chicago. I like how it turns into cinnamon instead of a burn.
Good review. May have to give the OGD a try for sure. I’ll see if they have the Dickel around as well.
Love the video boys! OGD BiB is one of my favorite go-to bourbons period….EW BiB is also great! Keep them coming…cheers!
Enjoy your videos. Big fan of the Evan Williams BiB, can't beat the value for the price
Definitely noticed the serious pour for Trenton😂
can't wait to get my 1792 BIB store pick from a local liquor store who does barrel picks with 1792. was told last week the BIB is in process.
Guys I have all of those bottles! The 13 yr Dickel is much better than the 11y yr. I do like the Dickel the best of the bottles presented so good job Kurt. Here in Dallas it's more expensive around 34.99 at Total Wine.
Love the channel! This video is a great help.
i agree. I'm also at the age where I can pick what to, or not, argue about and bourbon / whiskey technicalities are not! JTS Brown and Jackie Gleason!
Love the Dickel! Thanks for putting it in!!
In our area it can run $55-$109... for the Dickle was your bottle a spring 2009 or fall 2008
Got the Dickel 13 here in Indy for $38 and I thought that was a good price. Less than $30 is a buy all day. Good stuff!
Got the Old Tub on sale for $10. Hard to pass up at that price also.
Good series!
The Dickel BiB 4th edition is delicious. If you look on the side, you can see which release it is. Three 4th is delicious.
Man who poured that glass by Trent 💀😂
We live and learn . Enjoy all you do. It is the video I first watched in the morning🙂
Watching this at 7am on the way to work, perfect start to Friday morning fellas 🫡
