    Love these double blind comparisons by you two. Love Josh's "WHAT?" reaction every time he finds out its something he is "supposed to think is amazing" when it turns out not to be. That said, if I can ever find HM10 at retail, I will buy one to try it at least. Trying hard to stick with the "under $60" crowd and avoid all the hype and fomo.

    Wow. Totally agree with the Bell Curve comment. You verbally expressed what I have been thinking for the last year. All good pours......still trying to find that distinctive pour that sets itself apart from all others.
    On the other hand, I have a McKenna I need to crack and got it at MSRP to boot. The Michters just way too pricey for me. Great review! Cheers!

      Like minds, Mike. We've been feeling the same for quite a while and when the "bell curve" thought hit us it was a lightbulb moment. We've had some great pours to be sure, but we've yet to find something that truly stands head-and-shoulders above everything else. Enjoy that McKenna. It's certainly a good pour. Cheers!

    Henry McKenna is one of my miracle bottles that I just came across in a Kroger. It is my favorite. I might have a pour once a month. I got a good bottle and I’ll be bummed when it’s gone.

    • @stuffandwhiskey
      @stuffandwhiskey  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      When you run across those great bottles of McKenna, that's when we wish it were a more readily available product so it would be easier to go purchase multiple bottles of the same single barrel. Maybe one day the hype will die down and McKenna can get back to being a great, solid pour at a fair price.

    Josh hit the nail on the head. M10 is fine if you want an easy sipper without thinking about it much. But at the price point it has to be better than that, which is why I was disappointed with the one I bought last year. I'm not playing single barrel roulette with this one either (love that phrase by the way!)

      We've done them single blind before but it's fairly easy to pick out which is which when you know these two are in the glass in front of you--at least with the current bottles we have of each. Certainly solid pours, and there's no denying how gorgeous the Michter's bottle is. With the rarity of each these days, they've been pretty much relegated to sharing with guests to let them enjoy a bottle they otherwise may not have tried. Cheers Coby!

    “Both are hyped up products.”
    M10 in L.A. is extremely hard to find - usually >$225. I’ve seen it on a shelf maybe three times in the past few years.
    HM10 in L.A. - supply is sporadic but far easier to find - usually ~$60.
    Refuse to pay >$150 for any bottle so never touched M10. Tried HM10 in 2019 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Have since stocked up. Single Barrel roulette but as long as the profile is similar, I’m good with that.
    $50-$60 is the new $30 around here, at least for decent quality juice with three-digit proof so the market in that price range is crowded. Rare Breed is usually the standard for this price range (~$57) but can be a little proofy depending on which night. So HM10 hits a nice sweet spot.

    • @stuffandwhiskey
      @stuffandwhiskey  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great comment all around, Mark. Especially like the "$50-60 is the new $30" part. That's something we've been mulling over ourselves and we're not sure where we land on it just yet, but we're pondering and plan to make a video about it once we form some more well thought out opinions. Cheers!

    I've never tasted the Michter but I've tried several bottles of Henry and am always disappointed. It's pretty good for 35 which is what it used to sell for but highly overpriced for its current price of 50 to 60. And the funny thing is, I always hear the same thing when it comes to Henry McKenna and that is; you just have to find a good barrel. Well, I know a lot of people who have bought it and no one I know has ever found one.

    • @stuffandwhiskey
      @stuffandwhiskey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's actually a really great point Chip. We've had some solid bottles, like this one, but have yet to try one that really knocked out socks off. Maybe one day, but probably not. You have to think the really special stuff that Heaven Hill is holding is going into more flagship products like Parker's or even Elijah Craig Barrel Proof.

Availability, if you are like most folks… not able… nor willing to travel 100 miles or more, when there are SO many choices is not a factor to a noob bourbon drinker like me. The journey is a lot of fun. Great video, as always.

    Just saying that I am convinced that most products don't deserve the hype that they get nor are the price they sell for at MSRP and definitely not secondary.
    The price of diminishing returns for me is around that 60 to 70 buck range.
    Even then, I don't think that some of these bottles are twice as good as something half the price.
