I have a ton of respect for guys like Maynard James Keenan who are totally hands on with the entire process. It’s an absolutely incredible commitment, so I see why most celebrities are content with slapping their name on the bottle without participating in production. That being said, it’s really something special when the owner and namesake is also heavily involved in growth and production, regardless of celebrity status. Are there any celebrities out there distilling their own grain into whiskey?
I always look at Puncher's Chance, didn't even know it was a Celebrity brand, but end up passing on it because I know so little about it. I really like their bottle design (even though it hides the whiskey color). Heaven's Door was one of my first bottle purchases and I had no idea it was a celebrity whisky either but I greatly enjoy it. My bottle is a store pick barrel proof and I want to add the decade series to my shelf. The first celebrity whisky I purchased with knowledge it was a celebrity bottle was a Blackened store pick of the brandy barrel finish series. It's great but not much brandy influence. Just tastes like a decent $50 bottle of bourbon (what I paid for it). Not stand out but I'm hoping it'll open up once I'm past the neck.
I bought the Punchers for $15 on clearance a while back. No complaints. Nothing complex … delivers a very straightforward taste. Glad to see it did well. I like LB as well. Both approachable for non bourbon folks. BTW: That Punchers bottle is heavy!
The easiest way to tell the difference between Michael and Bruce is the work they do. Michael Buffer is the announcer for professional boxing, Bruce Buffer is the announcer for the UFC.
I always find it funny that people say they find the X wood note because they used X charcoal to filter. That's not how charcoal in a liquid works. Charcoal removes, not adds. Fun fact. Coconut shells are used all to make "activated charcoal."
If you're ever in Texas again, I've got three for you: -Garrison Bros: San Antonio. Pricy but worth it -Giant Texas: Right out of central Houston, awesome for a bottom shelf price -Balcones: Waco. Middle of the road price ($40-$60) but some fantastic blends and bourbons.
Even though I have not tried it, Longbranch gets a lot of disrespect from bourbon lovers because it’s a “celebrity whiskey”, but it did win a double gold at SFWSC. Maybe if Wild Turkey upped the proof on it a little 🤷🏻♂️ Even then, I doubt it would stand tall with Rare Breed.
Perfect timing. My local store is having a BOGO sale and Puncher's Choice is the only bourbon offered. Came looking for reviews and this one is perfect as it went up against six others and stayed on top the entire time. I'll be picking up two for $29.99 this week.
It's hard being Canadian. I can get Wild Turkey 101 for 42 Monopoly dollars, Knob Creek 9 100 proof for 58, or Punchers Chance for 67... Lord have mercy. Wild Turkey it is.
Not a fan of JP Wisers or Pendleton? (Only Canadian whisky I am fond of so far…….. I grew up in the states like 20 miles from the border so I grew up on Canadian whisky………. And weed.
New to this but seems like you're the only one on TH-cam that doesn't have ridiculous flavor notes. It's annoying watching guys describe a whiskey saying it taste like oak followed by skittles and a unicorn fart.
Couple of notes,,, I will never again buy a whiskey that is under 4 years of age. Not in barrel long enough to impart flavors. Secondly, Heavens Door ABC private select which Brewzle has access to is absolutely one of the best pours available. 4 out of 5 of my guest given samples of high end whiskeys ( Henry McKenna, Blantons, Eagle Rare,,,etc) chose the Heavens Door as their pour for the evening.
Might have to give PC another try. Bought a bottle when it was first released, and it was very boring. Wasn't bad, but it offered very little. I added some staves to it, and it made it better. Maybe they've had a chance to age it a little more or something.
I had to pick up a couple store picks in a deal to get a stagg. One of my picks was the Puncher’s Chance. I couldn’t believe how good it actually was. I just wish the bottle wasn’t so stupid looking.
@@OGbrick420 that I couldn't answer but technically you can consider it a bourbon. Personally I don't like Jack but I've heard the new rye is very good.
I haven’t come across any of the others, but long branch is pretty common here in NZ. The long branch is my least favourite Wild Turkey product. Over here it is released at 40% and the one I had was flavourless, no kick and no aftertaste to speak of. Very disappointing.
@@ZakkandtheJ I'm aware, I live maybe an hour from him. Was making a comment on the general lack of opportunity for those of us in the state to order online

Why does every blind ranking just devolve into guessing which is which? The last 1/3 of the video, which is the most important part, stops mentioning the flavors and which is better altogether. Makes the whole process disingenuous and pointless.
You lost me at "none of these are bad whiskies". None of those are even close to a good whiskey, they're all awful or even worse. How can "youthful grainy" be anything but off the chart just wrong? Very much red flags all over the place.
Best celebrity bourbon hands down is Blackened! Dave Pickerell had a hand in it and you can tell.
My first thought when seeing the picture was where is Blackened! It is probably one of the best celebrity bourbons available.
Always a chance for round 2!
@@brandonjones6703 agreed!
Especially the Cask Strength Blackened.
I had a Binny’s of Blackened and went back and bought 2 more. It was delicious.

I find the highway reserve gimmick pretty interesting, it's the same principle as sea aging
Loved the video, you should do a part 2 with the other celebrity whisky. I enjoyed seeing the variety of different flavors.

I enjoy the heavens door ... haven't felt the need to buy the other ones
You're missing Blackened (especially Cask Strength) and Sweetens Cove (again the Cask Strength 2021 is excellent).
Punchers chance is really good. I have the single barrel and it reminds me of wild turkey. A must try!
