Anker PowerCore+ PD 26800 - Won't Turn On, Charge or Discharge

  • This was a bit of a weird and messy video to make. Turns out it is challenging to make a video demonstrating what might happen with a battery pack that has sat for a long time without potentially degrading or damaging a perfectly good pack. So, I demonstrated it as best I could.
    A few notes, however:
    1. Perhaps this goes without saying but this can work for either half of the pack's cells in parallel. In that situation, one would connect battery positive (B+) and battery protection (BP) as the common reference and follow the same steps in the video.
    2. If both parallel sets of cells are at a low voltage, then it is recommended to slowly bring each “half” of the parallel set to around ~2.8 Vdc, and then attempt to charge the pack. It might be best to alternate between the two sets multiple times so that the voltage difference isn’t that large, depending on the initial parallel cell voltage measurements.
    3. A Li-Ion / Li-Po battery charger/analyzer may be used so long the current can be set very low to start (100mA), and the configuration is set to 1S1P such that the termination charging voltage is set to no higher than 4.2 Vdc.
    4. It is known that batteries at 0 Vdc in any configuration can be revived as well, but it is out of the scope of this video. Note that it is not possible to tell if a cell(s) grouped in parallel may have failed partially short, and may draw more current than other cells in the set, which may result in a catastrophic fault. For single cells in a 1S1P configuration, it is a different situation. Perhaps a topic for a future video.

Hello, TCE here! Just a quick note that I am aware that the camera framing is tighter than I'd have wanted for a portion of the video. However, I couldn't re-record this, as I didn't want to take the pack apart again, and potentially further degrade it. While it may appear like some of the action is off-camera, all that is there is the connections. I aimed to address this with the diagram of the overall configuration in the video.

I just bought a second one. Both of them can’t be charge after a few months

Hi, I have the newer version of the Powercore 26800. Where it has a temperature sensor instead of a BP wire. The cells are almost full. Total 15.6v / 4 = 3.9v per series connection. Not giving a discharge. But once plugged in, the battery indicator shows its full. Immediately after unplugging the type c, light goes out and doesnt turn on again.

The 737 has got big firmware reliability problems. Display goes into protection low voltabe or low temp or high temp mode randomly and cant be hard reset. This item needs a recal before they all get returned.

I have completed these steps and now it’s charging. However not discharging. Both set of cells are at 4.04

I've had my powerbank in this state fro about a year now, and I've just opened it up to take a look, and I'm getting a reading of 2.81V on one set of batteries and 2.83V on the other, and I don't get any responsiveness from the LED indicator. What would you recommend I try?

That’s a pretty low SOC (state of charge) on those cells. I’d watch the video that you just commented on, but instead of performing it on just one “side” of the cells, you will be performing it on both “sides” (one side at a time). Hopefully that makes sense; if not let me know! Best of luck, and proceed at your own risk. Thanks for watching!

The whole pack needs "balancing", ie each cell needs to hold a certain charge voltage and all cells need to be in a specific range together..if even ine cell is out but a certqin amount, the rest will.not work
    Its a safetything.

Hi Mr Engineer, I got a Anker Powercore II 20000, its almost 3-4 years old haha... For somereason its charging, it does the same animation/light/leds to as its Charging, but it doesnt charge - It comes very hot where the BMS board is, and when I press the button to see if there is any lights... It doesn't light up.
    Any idea?

Note that it wasn't discharged for too long... it was fully charge, and used for a bit, and in the next day I plugged it in for charge. I haven't opened the Battery up yet to check voltages. Might do soon...

@@OMGitsAFrEaKDuCkseems like a short somewhere on the board. Have you tried checking the ports to see if they are clean?

have the exact same problem. Looks like it's charging, doesn't charge other devices. Any solution?

interesting...but much of what you did was off camera.
