      Track riding can be done very cheaply. If you need a trailer, you could start with ride shares as many riders do that to help each other with costs. Always post and ask and you will be amazed at the support there is out there to get riders like you to the track. A small car trailer like alumline.com are relatively cheap. You can use hypersport tyres and all that is needed is brake light and mirrors taped.

    Hi Dave, I have a 2015 bmw s1000rr, it's time to change tires to go hard on the road, which one do you advise and what pressures ?
    Thank you very much.

    • @catalystreactionsbw
      @catalystreactionsbw  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would suggest that you choose a hypersport category tyre with soft sides. The choice depends on grip vs longevity and your wallet's ability to keep throwing tyres on the bike. So the list is in order of grip 1st through to longevity: Q5 and Pirelli SP, Rosso III, Rosso IV and M9RR, Bridgestone S22/23 and Conti Sport ASttack. Pressures would be as recommended by the manufacturer, generally around 32/30 for very aggressive street riding to ensure maximum grip.

  • @sunnycanida9168
    @sunnycanida9168 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Dave do a lot of aggressive street riding and about to go to first track day currently on s22 but will need a new set do you recommend sticking with these or upgrades to the Dunlop q5s

    • @catalystreactionsbw
      @catalystreactionsbw  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you stay with the S22, handling will be very consistent with what you know. That is critical for your first track day. Changing wil completely alter the handling of the bike and unless you do some work with chassis geometry and suspension, you will be disadvantaged and that would not be a fair comparison for the Dunlops.

    Quick question here 🙋‍♂️ - I currently have a Q3 plus (rear) that is flat, courtesy of huge nail (not repairable)and while I am looking into either getting a Q5s, it’s little pricey so I am considering a S22; I noticed in a previous comment you mentioned the turn in slower, which is okay since I am indeed that and not really much of a knee dragger (working on it) is the turn in and shape similar to the Q3?

    • @catalystreactionsbw

    I have these tires and very confident with them. I don't track ride but do ride aggressive on the streets. But I'm wondering if Pilot Road 5 might actually be better and easier heated to optimal temp and actually last longer than a hypersport tire like s22

      Longevity is a tough one for a comparison based on road speeds and local road surfaces as there is so much variance. Road 5's are softer carcass and might heat up quicker overall.

      Rosso II is the harder carcass so ti will handle road conditions well at speed. The S22 is slightly softer and more compliant so bumps are a little smaller on impact for better stability. Both work incredibly well and as we are in a golden age of tyres, both work very well indeed. Rosso II will last longer in my experience, but you are looking for grip not longevity.

    • @catalystreactionsbw
      @catalystreactionsbw  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The wobble is chassis geometry. We are in a golden age for tires so I respectfully disagree. The issue is too much weight on the rear wheel and not enough on the front, Getting the DR4 with a bigger circumference helped the issue but did not fix it. To get that done right you need to set preload and damping correctly and manage fork and shock travel. In your case, shock travel is most important. th-cam.com/video/KeZT1LCY8CU/w-d-xo.html

      Greasy is hot for the tyre BUT can also be the track surface being hot and oil coming to the surface so be careful to distinguish each one. Some tracks are known for low grip over XF/C, so that data point is essential. For the S22 when measured in your pit post session, the soft edges need to be 150F minimum and over 190F the tire has less grip.
