    Finally a no nonsense tyre review

  • @plzuttaren
    @plzuttaren 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I bought these tires after watching the very few reviews out on TH-cam after a friend recommended these. And I can say that I am very happy with the purchase.
    The tires warm up really quick. I mean really quick. Which is nice for when you're doing shorter trips but still got good temperature on the tires.
    The different compounds in the tire really complement each other well so you feel very confident leaning over. You can really feel the difference in stiffness when leaning.
    Its neither a hard or a soft tire but softer on the edges. Works really well for riding street bikes, and I ride a Triumph Street Triple R -13. My friend got these on his Honda CBR 600rr.
    We would both recommend this tire👍
    For me it's a really good choice, and I've had the Michelin Pilot 4 and Pirellis before. Never felt so confident on my bike.
    I have yet to try them in the rain and when it's colder outside. Also I don't know how much the tires wear out.
    Remind me if you want to know in a couple months and ill let you know.

    Stock S20 was great on my XSR, got a new S21 rear for about $130 and installed it myself with hand tools no problem. When it wears out I’ll get an S22. The great part about these tires is that they are great on the street in all conditions and they are cheap!!

    • @bwxmoto
      @bwxmoto 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      will M the S20, 21,or 22? The coldest I ever ride is slightly above freezing (32F, 0C) and rarely in the wet. But other have said S20 and S22 ok in wet conditions, S21 not as much, but still mot bad.
      I noticed S21 feeling better in the cold than S20, but both are pretty good. On the road in normal warm or hot conditions they are both great.

    • @MakTheSank
      @MakTheSank 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man, i have an MT 09 as well got 6.000 km from my S20 and i got S21 on now, how much kilometers to expect from the s21s? also you think s22 will last longer even longer than s21? Tell me when you find out!@@bwxmoto

    • @bwxmoto
      @bwxmoto 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      MakTheSank hey I got about 2800 miles out of S20, lots of hard acceleration killed it, not cornering. S21 is supposed to last longer than S20, with harder compound on the center where mine wore out. I think S22 will wear similar to S21, but with better wet and cold grip but not totally sure till I try it myself. 🤷‍♂️

    • @bwxmoto
      @bwxmoto 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      will M I have hear S21s aren’t the best in wet conditions. But for me that’s not a problem as I don’t ride a ton in the rain. I like the price though! I guess the S22s are a lot better jn rain. They can be had for $120. Hard to beat that.

    • @MakTheSank
      @MakTheSank 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      cool, yea since they dont mention anything about wear, i am guessing it will be the same as s21 or even a bit less.@@bwxmoto

    Not going to lie, for someone like me who is in intermediate class, does three to four track days a year, goes for a driving lesson from time to time, uses the bike all year round, that tyre class is a no brainer. Not only for the vfm and ease of use but also for the heat retention. I really don't think that I would be able to keep a full on race Tyre in optimal temperature for every session of a track day, meaning that i would risk a fall.
    Just my 2 cents.
    Thank you for the review and the honest comment about the test riders.

    Good review, I have never been happier with a tire than I am with s21's and I'm glad to hear they are going to continue to make the s21. The improvements they have made to the s22 mean very little to me. I don't ride in wet unless I have to and means almost never. And better cold performance? I can't imagine a tire working any better than the s21's even before they get warmed up. If they want to improve the s21 they could work on responsiveness and feed back. They don't turn quite as quick and give quite as much feed back to the rider as some of the more expensive tires, but they hold a line and stick like glue and last pretty good and they give me the confidence I need to carve the canyons like nobody's business, I absolutely love them!

  • @GarryMcGovern

    I'd be more than happy to throw these on my road bike for occasional track use. The RS10's were phenomenal, but were the fastest wearing tyres I've EVER had on any bike in my life! The S21's were more than up for it on the track with the same bike, and lasted great on road. I have V02 slicks on my race bike and they blew me away compared to other makes (though Dunlops still take some beating!). I currently have Michelin RS's on another of the road bikes, but if price is right, I'd have no qualms about putting the S22's on when due (which is pretty soon!): very hard to find a bad tyre these days, it's pretty much all down to price now.

  • @bradcobb3418

    Ok, had these for 2 yrs
    now and on my 3rd set now. I love them, on the road i can pile on my front Brembos whilst cranked into
    corners, lots of feed back, never break away and mileage better than the previous 3 sets of S21s.
    However i do not agree about quick warm up and i live in Andalucia, S Spain.
    The hard center compound lights up the back wheel until about 5kms if I open up my 23 yr old 916 Ducati ST4.Not exactly a Panigali but decent torque. Very stable on less than perfect tar mac...I cannot comment on rain grip, I've only ridden in the wet once in the last 16 yrs 😂

    I was already to criticise due to the fact the test was in a warm dry Spain but after listening to your review and comments about longevity over track performance I understand where you are coming from although it would be nice to do a test on a cold damp April morning, let’s see if some of the other reviews will come back the same as yours or will they be the best thing since sliced bread!

    Skill over tire-dollars any day of the week. Old guys who started in the late 70s riding bikes could run circles around young guys who are tire snobs in the dry or the wet. Even the worse tire by today's standards is better than the best tire back then.
    I am looking forward to the S22!!! I am glad to see Bridgestone and other tire companies listening to their customers. I would classify myself as a super-sport touring rider. Would love to try these out on my VFR or my Concours C14!!!!

    Well said. Also, if there's bugger all between tyres, it's probably down to cost and tyre life. Using a K1300s, my current tyre sticks really well, lasts a good life, handles well in the wet but is a bit slow turning. If you're going to ride big distances, you have to give up something to get something else.

    I marshal a LOT at Phillip Island Ride Days & see so many people fluffing about with tyre warmers, pressures etc. For a track day I can't see the point of slicks unless your are a serious racer. Most punters are on road bikes, so good road tyres are fine. Red group turn up with their slicks, & aren't allowed on track if it's damp, let alone wet. I've even done a ride day on Angle GT's & had a ball!

So it's a mute point to us about wet performance. Make them with excellent traction, low heat needed, and longevity.

    I also am not a great fan of bridgestones , not that they are bad, i just prefer the feedback from others, bridegstones are like michelins, they hold on really great but step over the edge and you are off in a blink of an eye, whereas dunlops and meztlers give you notice they are going to let go they slide a bit, move a bit before the bridgestones, but you know you are on the limit, with bridges and michelins you dont realise you have reached the limit before you are off.

      I agree about the s22s, the rosso 3 or 4 is the best street tire imo

    For me I am still accelerating on my lap times. I am pushing my bike past the levels of grip i need on a tire simular to these on the Q3. I do go to tracks to have fun but i have to admit I do record my lap times. Which by doing so I can be making myself frustrated if I concentrate on that too much.

    Mate the question is, who has the biggest. This is what you do at the track and on the road. Therefore you need the best tools. S22, honestly are very good for road use but not track.
    This is what you are saying actually. What am doing here, is to draw a clear line.
    Who I am to comment like this? My story goes back in 1973.. I still love them, fix them, tune them, and only a beautiful woman can take me away from them!

    Now i use s21 ride 28000km for 2 year. It's time to change the tires. But can't decide on a tire. not use on track. Normal road and dust road 80:20%.
