Ah I remember being able to play as Zero... Only problem is, if I remember right, he only had one life. Once he died, no more Zero for the rest of the game. Looking forward to this though. Maybe I'll finally be able to learn where all the stuff is hidden~!
It's weird how INSANE the difference is between fighting Mac with the Saber and trying to fight him "Roahm style". Kevvl actually had to try Perfect Running him, and it took over 300 attempts. That seems a little excessive for an intro miniboss, especailly one that goes down in one hit when fought the "right way". I have the soundtrack to both versions of this game. The Anniversary Collection version is worse most of the time, but there's actually a few songs on it I like. (I actually prefer the Anniversary version of Crush Crawfish's theme to the original, and Anniversary Doppler Stage 1 ended up growing on me.)
BigKlingy Doppler Stage 1 is just one of those songs that's awesome in almost any way. I think the bigger slap in the face for the AC version of X3 was that blasted charging sound that managed to overlay the music while you had it going. But what they did in the AC to Neon Tiger's theme... as well as Zero's theme... now THAT was just plain inexcusable.
Ah X3. This has a special place in my heart. One of the reasons being that it has some great music composed by Kinuyo Yamashita. For those who do not know, she was the composer of the first Castlevania game for the NES, as well as Power Blade, the Medabot series of games to name just a few.
Usually, when starting a run through X3, there's one thing to consider- are you aiming for the secret fortress bosses? If you aren't, start anywhere- but if you are, like I think Pink is, you'll start at Tunnel Rhino (to grab the Tornado Fang, this generation's wall-breaking weapon), follow it up with Blizzard Buffalo (which thanks to the Tornado Fang, you can clear out in one run, netting the Leg Upgrade, a Ride Armor and a Heart Tank- and the Frost Shield), and then you can clean out Neon Tiger (the subtank and heart tank can be reached by jumping, but you need the Tornado Fang and the Leg Upgrade to get the Buster Upgrade). This also gives you the first key to the hidden fortress bosses- you have to deliver the final blow to Bit, Byte and the MysteryMaverick with specific weapons to avoid the rematches in Doppler's Lab. If Bit happens to drop in on you in Neon Tiger, you have one of his weakness weapons in the Frost Shield- and if he doesn't, the Ray Splash you get from Neon Tiger is a weakness of both Byte and the MysteryMaverick. Take into account that Byte will NEVER appear before Bit is defeated or destroyed, and you can start to establish a run order.
x3 biggest problem is the colectibles, so to avoid re-enter levels too much I usually play... rhino, buffalo, tiger, hornet, beetle, catfish, crawfish, seahorse... and only re-play rhino to pick helmet and missing heart
X3 is honestly what I think is the worst designed in terms of collectables. You backtrack SO MUCH in this game. Not to mention this game is really difficult for all the wrong reasons, since enemies deal so much damage. The Ride Armour mechanic, cool, I like it; but could you please make it so it isn't in the last stage I do when going by weakness order?
X1 is REALLY good with collectables. The best, in my opinion. My order for that is Chill Penguin, Storm Eagle, Flame Mammoth, Launch Octopus, Boomer Kuwanger, Sting Chameleon, Spark Mandrill, Armoured Armadillo. Doing this route, you only need to backtrack twice throughout the entire game. First to get Chill Penguin's Heart Tank (You need Flame Mammoth's weapon to get it) and the Hadouken in Armoured Armadillo stage.
+ZRandomGaming x3 works for me in the order I already mentioned with only 1 stage re-visit... x5 is the worst for me in terms of collectibles, because playing as zero you can't get all heart tanks... also the falcon armor part in duff macwhalen stage needs duff macwhalen's power so you have to play twice... and after you visit axl the red stage to complete the gaea armor you have to play again with the gaea armor for the heart... that's bad design to collect things I used to play x1 in the order you mentioned but after playing the game a thousand times I now play in a weird order without caring for collectibles as much... it goes like armadillo, mammoth, mandrill, chameleon, octopus, kuwanger, eagle, penguin then revisit chameleon for the chest armor and that's enough... I don't go for hadouken anymore
Why hadn't I noticed before that the arranged music for the intro stage went from 4/4 to 3/4, giving it that swing feel? Sounds neat. Wonder if anyone bothered to redo it with X2/X1 sound fonts?
PinkKittyRose The artefacts in the opening video is due to the fact animated videos/scenes and save menus (and game select) are in 480i. The actual games (as I have this on PS2) are in 240p. I guess the adaptee doesn't handle 480i material well?
X3 and X2 are my favorites. I really liked X3 it's special in my opinion. I liked the music, intro stage and story line. plus you can play as Zero some Blessings in christ and happy gaming
Now, Pink, you commented on the "Maverick Hunter" typo shortly before yourself typing "Such is the dangerous of...". Also, I love that PKR-in-MMX suit art.
pinkKittyRose, have u notice in 1996, they ported this game on th playsation 1, sega saturn and pc, on the parted version its the first megaman game in the serious 2 have anime cutscenes and arranged soundtrack, and the ps1 version is also on the megaman x collection
I actually like Megaman X3 the most, even though it's probably the hardest to learn. I mean it doesn't even explain that you can call Zero, who is pretty much needed for the first 2 levels (if you start with Blizzard Buffalo, that is. His larger hitbox makes it easier to get to the boots) Still, I love it... probably for all the wrong reasons.
"Prefer shoulders buttons to dash" Something tells me you got started playing Megaman Zero on the GBA. While I'm not knocking those controls (they do the job), I honestly felt the MMZ controls were rather clunky compared to the twitchy responsiveness of the original MMX. Although, I liken that mostly to the fact that I had a controller in my hands playing MMX, and not a square brick (GBA SP). Oh well. Looking forward to the rest of the play-through. :)
***** The GBA is a strange beast. The OJ GBA is definitely the most comfortable, but the lack of a backlight pretty much means you'll have to play it under a lamp, and while the SP fixed that, it's not as easy on the fingers as it should have been.
***** Actually Mega Man X was the first of the style of games that include a button dash that I have played! I have played both styles before, between face button dash and shoulder button... and the shoulder button is WAY more comfortable for someone with as big of hands as me! Beats having to position my thumb awkwardly... or worse yet... go claw grip!
PinkKittyRose "X was the first to include a dash button" I know that, silly. :P I bought MMX years ago when it initially came out, and have been very familiar with that control scheme. I suppose that's why I think the MMZ controls are more than backwards, but just as ShadyKnight9 mentioned, playing on the SP probably didn't help matters any. "Go claw grip!" Fear teh claw. lol I usually use my thumb knuckle to tap the A for dash, so I never felt claw gripped or awkward doing so. It just felt right to me. ShadyKnight9 If I wanted, I'm sure I could still play the MMZ games on my DS Lite (which fixed the light vs. comfort issue), but the L button on mine isn't working so well these days.
Finally, Pink plays X3! Honestly, this is my favorite of the original SNES X games due to its darker approach. This is going to be interesting to see. *SPOILER ALERT* You can play as Zero in pretty much any other stage besides the intro, but, IMO, it's not worth it unless you want to earn his lightsaber really badly. Plus, X can't get it until near the end of the game.
"Mega Man X3 - Fully Playable Zero" should be enough on TH-cam or with Google to find a link to the project. The author is justin3009 on the megamanx9.com-forum. There you will find all the details. Have fun!
You mentioned in the video youd perfer to play as zero... Well... Theres a rom hack someone made called the Zero Project. Id like to see you make a text-box commentary video on it! :3
To be honest, I think I have a stage order for you, Pink- -Tunnel Rhino -Blizzard Buffalo -Neon Tiger -Blast Hornet -Gravity Beetle -Volt Catfish -Toxic Seahorse -Crush Crawfish You're only required to make one revisit- to Tunnel Rhino, once you have the Buster Upgrade and the Triad Thunder (Volt Catfish's weapon).
I always do Blizzard Buffalo first, then Tunnel Rhino, then Neon Tiger. You can grab 2 armor pieces and have the weaknesses for Bit, Byte, and Vile ready to go.
nintendobuff did you know that if you do rhino first you can use his weapon to destroy ice blocks on buffalo stage avoiding replay his stage to pick the heart? I'm only saying that because I find annoying to replay stages to pick up stuff
I've recently got the X Collection for my PS2 and have been playing through the games (currently stuck on X5. Freaking Shadow Devil.) And I've got to say, even though you say it's the weakest of the original SNES trilogy, X3 is probably my favorite so far. I think for the same reasons I like Classic 3 the best out of those games: the series was basically out of the experimental stages, and it was a bit more balanced in its mechanics and what it expected from the player. It was challenging still, but not stupid hard in as many spots as the previous two. (though no X game is without its stupid hard parts, as I'm discovering). It's awesome that I get to watch you play this now, considering it is my favorite :D. Also... am I imagining things, or is there a bit of Mega Man 2 Dr Wily stage music going on in the background of the Playstation Intro cutscene? The guitar that starts at about 8:32. Could be a coincidence.
I've actually never played this game before, even though I've 100% completed the other two SNES games. But yeah, the SNES's version's music sounds so much better.
MetalSmasherGaming I for one blame the mind-boggling decision to replace the original grunge-rock soundtrack with...poppy, trashy synths? I'd be fucking fine if they gave it the MHX treatment, that's how much I despise the PSX soundtrack.
Now me, I happen to enjoy plot in platformers a lot of the time, especially with the Sonic series. And frankly that needed some in-game plot integration considering that unlike Capcom, Sega's American marketing department wouldn't knock it off with the US Manual Only pseudocanon until the games forced them to XD.
Edited again for not waiting long enough... YAHOO FOR SHAREING THE COLLECTION'S PLAYSTATION ANIMATIONS!!! But I whole heartedly agree with you that of the series, this game had, hands down, the WORST X Buster of the series. I can't even beat the game because of that damn spread shot being so freaking inaccurate! And the upgrade chips that enhance just one armor piece's abilities, and the stunts you have to pull for the Golden armor to get all four... If not for the Mavericks, the weapons, the stage design and as always, the music (Blast Hornet, Gravity Beetle and Crush Crayfish FTW!), I would rank this among my most hated games in the series. But no, X7 holds that title.
A thought just occurred to me... Maybe you could splice the Maverick introductory cutscenes in between selecting the stage and playing it through on your version of choice? EIther that, or you could select the stage in the anniversary edition for the cutscene, then switch over to playing that stage on the SNES edition. I know it would be a bit more work, but they kind of need it considering that I don't recall the X3 Mavericks having any intro at all without those scenes (which, to put it bluntly, feels wrong for ANY Mega Man game to exclude some form of a Robot Master/Maverick intro... in my honest opinion). It's your call though Pink... I know your showing the scenes regardless.
okay, you showed the animated cutscene for the intro stage, so what about the rest of the collection version of X3's animated cutscenes? are you gonna deal with the charge sound for extras, or no more animated cutscenes?
Also, is anyone else getting a bit of crackling on the audio, or is it just my headphones or something? It's only a tiny bit every couple of seconds of so, but still.
It's "Dopple Town", not "Doppler Town". UNLESS THE TYPOS HAVE ATTACKED AGAIN! Which is a possibility. It is Capcom, after all. Also I like how X and Zero seem to be the only competent Maverick Hunters. A whole organization of them, but when the Beecopters attack, only X and Zero can do anything about it, because everyone else is completely useless!
X3 while not my favorite of the X games I still enjoy it. The level design is kind of boring this time around and the bosses are kind of uninspired in my opinion but I really like all the collectable items you can get in this game. (Probably my favorite part about the game.)
Huh ?! For me, X2 , X7 and X8 are unispired bosses (at least in design). The best being from surprisingly, X 6 (at least the Bosses'picture presentation, are the best of any X game, they looks so fresh, badass and unique, nothing like the "cutest" bosess as the 3 mentioned games. And by the way, my favorite of them all is probably X8 in general (the gameplay is pretty solid and the three characters have theirnown unique style; Capcom really intended to gou out with a blast with the last X game )
Definitely don't like the soundfont for X3 nearly as much as X1, or even X2 (which is in between), but beyond that, the themes are also really weak for the most part. I'm always disappointed with Zero's themes, they sound cool for what they are, but they're always super short loops that could have gone so much farther! I mean, they sound like the intro or first movement of a song rather than a whole song. I think the GameCube version is actually the Sega Saturn version of the game. I actually the music quality better (though not better than X1 or X2) but I still think the music is terribly weak.
If anything, the SNES version of this game is better than the PSX version, especially the sound chips on the SNES version does make your ear bleed. With all things considered, Capcom should've used the SNES version for the X Collection. You probably know X6 is my most hated game in this series' existence.
Ta-da! Of course, betrayal! what's mega man without somebody double-crossing another? X betrayed sigma, Zero (sort of) betrayed X, and now Dopple-face betrayed all of "Dopple Town".
X didn't betray Sigma, Sigma betrayed X.. and the entire Maverick Hunter organization as a whole. Sigma did _say_ X betrayed him... but that's because he's an egotistical prick who considers "not following me in my mad quest for world domination" to be the same thing as betrayal
TomboyGamerGal There are some easy to grab things in a couple stages if you're having trouble- Neon Tiger has a Heart Tank and a Sub Tank that are easy to grab, Tunnel Rhino has a Subtank you can easily get to, and Toxic Seahorse has the Heart Tank right at the top of the sewage waterfall. Keep at it and you'll get through!
Rain Feather No worries, I already destroyed all the Mavericks (used a Mega Buster on all of them except Volt Catfish) and yeah I found most of the heart pieces energy tanks, Light upgrades, etc. The reason why I put it down is because of the stage design isn't really that good to me and X2 has the same problem. (I finished X2 with the true ending) X1 has the best stage design and power-up placements. Oh and one complaint on that game: getting that Light Upgrade in Flame Mammoth's stage is a pain in the fucking ass man...
Oh look, it's that game in the series that everyone seems to hate, even though X6, X7 and I will even say X5 are much worse. I will say I like X4 better, even if X's story in that game feel completely pointless and some Capsules are a total bitch to get, because I think it's more balanced and there's less pointless collectibles like the Ride Armors and the upgrade chips. X8 I also think has an advantage because it handles multiple playable characters better than X5-X7 did and I guess you could say encourages multiple playthroughs and playstyles. I like how the animated cutscenes for X3 look so stilted and lifeless compared to Mega Man 8, which were a giant love letter to Astro Boy. Also, I seriously thought you were going to do a difficulty rating at the end.
ShadyKnight9 Hehe, we are not going full-on Roahm style here...! That said, I still like X3, it just had the issue of starting a very bad trend in the X series.. the mentioned excessive collectibles. When not playing the game 100%, X3 is still pretty fun... Honestly its only real sins are too many collectibles, a buster upgrade that is more like a down-grade (that is necessary to get the rest of the armour other than the legs), and pretty boring boss-fights... Overall, it could be plenty worse! It still has pretty fun stages, and good music. I have only played X1-6 myself due to the anniversary collection, so I have no opinion on X7 or 8... but I can safely say out of what I played, X5 was the biggest pile of garbage of the lot of them.
PinkKittyRose Funny, other people would have said 6. Personally though, I just canNOT get through 7 at all. At. ALL. Just...ugh. That game makes me cringe so hard.
PinkKittyRose I personally think X6 is worse than X5, because at least X5 I can say is a playable game. An absolutely rushed job with design decisions that make absolutely no sense to someone with a functioning mind, but a playable game nonetheless with properly designed levels, for the most part anyway. X6 on the other hand, on top of having worse level design than Mega Man and Bass, it's essentially a ROM (ISO?) hack of X5 because of how much it shamelessly copied. I will admit that X6 fixed a few things X5 did wrong, mainly the lack of luck-based mission that dictates what ending you get, a Part system that's actually straightforward, and X's character reflecting the ending of X5. But, despite that, the utterly awful levels compounded by the atrocious Nightmare system just makes it borderline unplayable. You missed nothing from not playing X7. You missed awful voice acting, boring levels, the complete mutilation of X's character, and Flame Hyenard. If those are things you somehow really care about, then more power to you, I guess. X8 is a little bloated on the backtracking for that dreaded 100% OCD, but like X3, it's only an issue if you care for 100%. Other than that, it was a much needed return to the series' 2D roots. It does have X5 and X6 double armor system, BUT, it does what X5 should have done and allows you to mix and match armor parts, and you don't have to get every parts in a set to use the armor. Once you find a part, you can use it right away. The cost, however, is that the armor's design is really uninspired and rather ugly IMO. The armor parts are all identical, they just have different colors. Its only other sin would be its absolutely bonkers story. The Mega Man series got this weird fascination with religious subtext starting with Legends, with Zero skirting the line with its mythological theme naming and Battle Network avoiding it altogether, but X8 goes above and beyond. It somehow manages to make Atlus look clever with its symbolism. And I guess another problem would be that it's bloody hard to find.
TheMartianGeek To me, what kills X5 is that damn luck-based mission. It completely throws skill out of the equation to get the good ending. I could do a flawless speedrun, through the eight Maverick stages, but the game decided that the shuttle mission failed, so I get the bad ending. Conversely, could get multiple game overs, waste a ton of time, and only just make it in time, and the game decides the Enigma cannon works and so I'm guaranteed the good ending. How is that supposed to be fun? I like that the story tried to raise the stakes, but why should I care about it if whatever ending I get is at the complete whim of the random number generator?
Huh? The weakest music? I know its your opinion, But i really love it out of X1 and X2! *The only X games i've played... xD* Overall, this is my personal opinion.
Are you insane ?! You say this game's guitar sounds are the weakest ?! I am not even going to discuss this, I will only say: *TOXIC SEAHORSE stage theme* . NUFF SAID
Exactly ! And PS ones are actually pretty good too (with 2 exceptions...) . Dont know if Pink said that because of Nostalfag or something but oh well, her gameplays are pretty good nevertheless...
I always disliked this game. It is too difficult for me and I could never beat it. I recommend skilled gamers at X3. Sure challenge isn't bad but when it's too hard to be a Maverick, that takes the cake.
"Oh no! We have been betrayed by a character we never knew existed until this very moment!"
Funniest line I've ever seen
Pink Kitty Rose, "For those who are sick of Roahm Mythril's excuses."
Thanks Pink for never letting us down. :)
Also, THAT ZERO THEME
Ah I remember being able to play as Zero... Only problem is, if I remember right, he only had one life. Once he died, no more Zero for the rest of the game. Looking forward to this though. Maybe I'll finally be able to learn where all the stuff is hidden~!
Quick, fire the Kitty Buster! (Sorry couldn't resist XD!)

Cool run. This is personally my favorite of the original X games, but all three are good. Love it! :)
Oh happy day! Something to watch before I head to work.
I love your avatar; it's cute! The robot form is fun to look at.

Well, how else are they suppose to transport large amount of Maverick Hunters?
Was looking forward to this LP, thanks!

also the falcon armor part in duff macwhalen stage needs duff macwhalen's power so you have to play twice...
and after you visit axl the red stage to complete the gaea armor you have to play again with the gaea armor for the heart... that's bad design to collect things
I used to play x1 in the order you mentioned but after playing the game a thousand times I now play in a weird order without caring for collectibles as much...
it goes like
armadillo, mammoth, mandrill, chameleon, octopus, kuwanger, eagle, penguin
then revisit chameleon for the chest armor and that's enough... I don't go for hadouken anymore
Any consideration to doing an X4 no-damage playthrough?
I actually do love the PS1 version of the intro...granted I got the Japanese version.

-Toxic Seahorse
-Crush Crawfish
You're only required to make one revisit- to Tunnel Rhino, once you have the Buster Upgrade and the Triad Thunder (Volt Catfish's weapon).

Pink Kitty Rose, I don't know about you but,
you look awesome like the thumbnail of this

Thales Monteiro I actually didn't know that. I did Buffalo then Rhino...and I've already done my own LP of this game, too. Feh.
TheMartianGeek hmm... at least I can watch your whole playthrough now since pinkkittyrose's is only starting hers =]
Wait! You're not gonna show us the ending to Sister Mode?
Am I the only one that thinks that the shot of X in his fully upgraded armor in X2 made him somewhat resemble Sailor Moon?
i like mega Man x3 awesome game new friend
the music is better in the Snes without doubt!!
good luck Pink because this game is so damn hard!!!
Dr. Doppler, gimme the news...
If you take requests, I think you should start with Gravity Beetle.
YES
Now me, I happen to enjoy plot in platformers a lot of the time, especially with the Sonic series. And frankly that needed some in-game plot integration considering that unlike Capcom, Sega's American marketing department wouldn't knock it off with the US Manual Only pseudocanon until the games forced them to XD.
Ha! See that hilarious quirk, 21XX? ;)
Da charge sounds
They hurt me
TwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

YES!
I still can't beat this game, so hard
Ever considered doing the rest of X series? Well, except 6 and 7.
Pink, I think you should use dolphin emulator for GC games if you have trouble with upscaling in the future.
You should've showcases Zero's epic ps1 theme
Nice video! Out of curiosity, are you using a Wii U, SNES, or emulator for this?
Why are you using text boxes instead of talking?
Also, is anyone else getting a bit of crackling on the audio, or is it just my headphones or something? It's only a tiny bit every couple of seconds of so, but still.
+ShadowdaHedgie11 I'm getting it too
It's "Dopple Town", not "Doppler Town".
So you prefer X1's guitar sound? I honestly prefer X3's guitar sound, it honestly sounds more like a guitar to me.
Why pink, I didn't know you were appreciator of fine hair as well.
At least the manga took great pain to give Mac a character.
I think that X3 is the hardest in the SNES part of the X series while I think X2 is the easiest.
I feel like the gamecube version should have been called Megaman Z.
hey the opening of megaman x3 is cool in japanese version
Honestly, I prefer the PS1 version over the SNES Version.
X3>X>X2 for me
If anything, the SNES version of this game is better than the PSX version, especially the sound chips on the SNES version does make your ear bleed.
And natrually, Mac betraying Maverick Hunters.
X didn't betray Sigma, Sigma betrayed X.. and the entire Maverick Hunter organization as a whole. Sigma did _say_ X betrayed him... but that's because he's an egotistical prick who considers "not following me in my mad quest for world domination" to be the same thing as betrayal
Pink... are you human?
I gotten this game for the Wii U Virtual Console and it's hard as fuck man. And I have to get back to it I haven't played it for 3 months I believe?
I think gay reploid marriage should be legal. (Though X and Zero technically aren't reploids, but let's not be nitpicky.)
PinkKittyRose X5 is actually my least favorite as well, and I've played through all 8 of them. It's not _bad_, just not as good as most of the others.
I want to say the anime clips are from the Sega Saturn version of X3.
holy crap that anime opening is the so damn silly!
NUFF SAID
the weakest of the SNES X?
X3 is superior in every aspect lol, weakest would be X2
I meant when it's too hard to BEAT a Maverick.
hey the japaness intro is most better
