for those who can't understand that half step thingy just remember this. Major chord - place a note > skip 3 notes > place a note > skip 2 notes > place a note. Minor chord - place a note > skip 2 notes > place a note > skip 3 notes > place a note. You're welcome

I know it is a little late but here is a tip that tremendously helped me memorize major and minor scales. In essence, just remember that C major and its relative minor scale, A minor, have only white keys. Then, follow the white keys on your keyboard or piano roll to determine where the whole steps and half steps are in the scale. For example, start with a C and follow all the white keys. If there is no black key between two white notes, it is a half step (h). If there is a black key, then it is a whole step (W). So, major scale will be W-W-h-W-W-W-h. Same idea applies to the minor scale. Start with an A and follow the white keys, which will result in W-h-W-W-h-W-W. Then, you can use this code to apply it to any scale. In short, just visualize C major and A minor. Hopefully, my explanation makes sense.
Also, FL has a neat tool in the piano roll options. Go to piano roll options → Helpers → Scale highlighting. It definitely helped me in the beginning although eventually, I would recommend keeping your piano roll highlighting in C major.

Tip for learning scales: if you want to learn scales, find the code for the scale you want, like the Minor Scale for example (2122122 or WHWWHWW) Just make it your phone passcode until you memorize it, helped me tons 👍 Love the vid man

As I said in the video about creating better melodies, this will help people so much. My first introduction to music was by playing the piano. I really think it is one of the best instruments to learn, especially if you are new to music production. You’re not going to learn every aspect of theory but it definitely helps in the long run.

I like to find two or three chords I am pretty familiar with and then experiment to see if I can find a new or interesting chord that I wasn't expecting to fit my progression! this helps me learn new chords and also find a way to build around them for future reference if I come across a time to use it again, and most of the time it will make the progression sound unique and not cliche.

FLS also has "helpers"/guides (or ghost channels if you will) in the piano roll settings that can help beginners stay on track with any given scale, along with loads of chords that can be added in with a single click of the root/tonic note. Great video, sometimes the most simple changes in a progression can make all the difference.
