      According to official behind the scenes material, Netayam is 15, so factor in however long na'vi pregnancy is probably ~16 years later in universe 14 years is the real world timeline for how long it took to make the movie after the first. Netayam was probably conceived at the tree of souls scene in the first movie since he's older than Kiri who at the latest was conceived while her avatar body was connected to Eywa if we run with the no na'vi or avatar father was involved theory.

      I mean if the character had been established to be a comic relief character, or at least having a sense of dark humor, then yes that would've been appropriate. But since they made him such a 2 dimensional character, of the kind that had their sense of humor surgically removed to make room for more Ooorah Marineness, it would be very out of place. UNLESS, the entire arc of his character, once he was in the new body, is that he's beginning to find humor and joy in things. Like if that had been an increasing trend, where he would see something, or remark to a conversation with a joke, or light comeback. Sort of like how Captain Barbossa, after coming back from the land of the dead, and having a body again, was a VERY humorous character. Because he had zero fucks to give anymore. He knew what awaited him in death, and he didn't fear it. So he RELISHED every moment of life he had, to it's fullest. That's why he's laughing like a lunatic in the riggings, when they are trying to flip the ship to get to Davy Jones' Locker. Everyone is in mortal terror, he's just laughing and swinging around, not a care in the world. If they had given his character that kind of development, that this rebirth, and 2nd chance from death, literally remade him, and he started to find joy again, then yeah, him picking up his old skull and making that comment, would be entirely fitting. But they didn't, so, while that's a great image, it would've been out of place. 😁

      @geminiamethyst7059 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@happyninja42 yeah, I was kinda looking for the dark sense of humour side of it in all honesty anyway. It is a shame but you are right about it being out of place.

    • @happyninja42
      @happyninja42 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@geminiamethyst7059 Yeah I would actually have liked that. To have the character have a real fundamental shift in personality after having a 2nd life. There are other characters in media that do that, and the ones that have a change of heart about their old life, and reflect that change by sort of casually mocking/joking about their old life and it's priorities, have always been some of my personal favorite characters. The ones that see how silly they used to be, worrying about things that ultimately don't matter, and can mock themselves in so doing. When they do finally just turn, it's usually very cathartic, at least for me anyway.

    I fucking *LOVE* how after seeing the footage of Neytiri killing his human self, Quaritch becomes visibly afraid of the woman. He’s afraid of going through the process of dying at the hands of what he views as a primitive savage. He may not remember how his death felt but he certainly does not want to die again
    ( 1:10 look at the *FEAR* in his eyes)
    Also you can clearly see throughout the movie how Quaritch tries to “man up”
    He tries to bury the fear and face Neytiri to kill her, to get her back for what he saw as her putting him in this new Avatar body.
    The only reason I don’t out right hate Quaritch’s character anymore is because we get to see him be *tormented* in this movie. We see him try to connect with his son but Spider rejects him at every turn. He doesn’t acknowledge it but he ends up more Na’vi than human by the time the movie ends.
    I mean, he even has his own Ikran now XD
    What I’m trying to say is that I hope we see more of this bastard of a character be tormented in the future films. Gotta repay his misdeeds somehow

      Considering how loyal his Ikran was, it might’ve changed Quaritch’s view on Pandaora’s wildlife. In many ways, the Ikran became a part of his squad and stood by him all the way, much like Jake’s did even after he was exiled from the Omaticaya, which led to Jake taming a Turok, then becoming Turok Makto.

      All art rips off what came before. It doesn't just emerge out of a vacuum. It’s a resynthesis of everything the person has been exposed to up to that point in their lives.The key is blending all those influences together and repackaging them into something distinct enough to stand on its own in the time it was made. Avatar definitely does that and whether you like these movies are not is irrelevant. They're iconic and recognizable to millions of people around the world.

      @@tronam As collages of blatant ripoffs. James Cameron films; don't make me laugh.
      Movie making is not an ancient artform and human imagination is not 'a vaccuum'. Many of the things he/ the contributers rip off came from that thing you call 'a vacuum'. They weren't actually there before and somebody before James Cameron did,actually, dream them up. Movies like Avatar and John Wick 4 are just unimaginative collages of ripoffs.
      There's very little original imagination in Hollywood or Disney movie making, any more. They present people with what they think 'works'. It's just chewing gum for the eyes.

    Next, they....plug the user brain n avatar brain into a tree...then move the entirety of the user brain content into the avatar brain....I wonder if its like copying a file. Do the original thought exist in the user brain? Does it got deleted instead like deleting a file copy? Or does the thought got physically moved from user brain into avatar brain?
    Then, the user...upload his brain into computer. Original User thought still alive. Later on, the upload is inserted into an avatar n live in the avatar while the original user is ded.
    So, question. Assume that Alive means an active body with a soul.
    So, one could argue that Avatar Jake is alive n that his soul is transferred from his original body into avatar body.
    However....Avatar Quaritch is arguably an biological robot...whose CPU is run by a brain and software copied from the once-living-Quaritch. So, arguably, Avatar Quaritch isnt alive....

      They did copy his mind, a kind of back up so to speak. The movie is basically a copy and paste of the first one so you're not missing much. They completely gutted Jake's character and made him some sniveling 😺 who spends a majority of the movie running from Quaritch. The Humans return obviously and somehow manage to get a full sized city base up and running in a few days. They replace Quaritch with a female version who does literally the exact same things as the original Quaritch, down to drinking coffee on the exact same gunship in the exact same mannerisms.
      I mean this Humanity is capable of transferring consciousness and torturing people by directly reading their memories so it's not entirely impossible that they could copy Quaritchs memories and make a new version, but it's kind of meh. It's better than Star Wars with the *"somehow, Palpatine returned"* bs.
      Basically before the original Quaritch went to fight Jake in the finale scene of the last movie, the corporation copied his mind up to that point. Unobtintainium, the driving mineral for Humanity in the first movie is obsolete, like it doesn't even exist anymore, instead Humanity spends a majority of their time now hunting alien Wales for some kind nectar that apparently stops aging. These Wales are apparently *"more intelligent"* than the Human or Na'vi and apparently are pacifists who would watch the classic Human bad guys slaughter their kind instead of fighting back. Going so far as to outcast those who decided to fight back against Humanity in some stupid religion or something. Idk.
      Y'know, classic copy and paste *ooooh Humanity bad guys with guns* BS.
      Anyway the movie ends with Jake basically saying he can't run from the Humans anymore and decides to fight back. So basically the first 90% of the first movie, only they left out the final battle. Except Jake was already fighting the Humans in the first hour of the movie, but decided for whatever reason to stop and run. Hoping to protect the people like homie didn't just kick ass in the first movie and throw Humanity off Pandora single handedly. He acts entirely out of character it's almost a different character. We all know from the first movie Jake would've been taking ass and kicking names but in this one he's literally nothing. Like as if the first movie never happened.
      Instead Jake spends literally all of his time trying to keep his children in check as they flee and integrate with the ocean clans. Anyway he fails and his son gets killed because Lo'ak is a dumbass who doesn't listen and his brother dies as a result. Could also be that Jake treated his family like a squadron and had his children fight against the invaders, which in of itself is questionable at times. Like no teenager is going to be wielding machine guns and flying on pterodactyls. Nor should any teenager grow up basically in a warzone like Jake literally comes from Earth and he integrates with the Na'vi so badly that he literally turns his kids into soldiers 😂
      The rest of the movie is meh. The lady in charge of the attack basically says Humanity is dying and Pandora is it's new home. The only sad part is when Neteyam died, but that's about it. It's just a copy and paste of the first movie, same actors and all. Blue Quaritch looks like he might be redeemed and join Jake in fighting the Humans later on but honestly who knows. I expect the next movie to be a copy and paste too, what else can they do except drag out the war against Humanity for another few movies while introducing a magical world. The only thing the second movie is good at is being a wallpaper everytime you pause it to go take a dump. Other than that it's almost worse than the first one.

I think it would have been better if the Quaritch we see die in the first movie was a human avatar body. The pilot Quaritch could have been a quadraplegic, or a brain in a jar, or a disgruntled Na'vi. Any option sounds more interesting that simply backing up your brain digitally and then restore it.
