    My favorite quirk was the button illumination. The buttons made sense for cruise control and that's why i got the KTM

    I really think KTM have nailed it with this amazing Super ADV Wow thanks KTM your continued advancements with this bike I really like the tank and radiator setup and ergonomics of the Motorcycle it has made it extremely desirable even to middle weight ADV Riders like myself on the 2020 790R. I really love this bike and your explanation is 👌❤

    This was a fantastic presentation. Just enough detail to get me really invested. I really appreciate both giving their experience and passion on the bike - especially with several comments focused on the passenger. My wife is always skeptical, so hopefully we can do a test ride together with a top box for her. This bikes sounds amazing! Great job.

    Nice video! One thing your forgot to mention is that riding this bike gives you more of a thrilling 'feeling' than any other bike, at least from what I've heard. My Porsche is the same way, has some super fancy gadgets that you can talk about all day, but when you get behind wheel it actually 'moves your spirit'. It's like the car just comes alive and becomes one with you. Hard to even explain unless you have actually had this experience. I saw a video where four riders rode four different adventure bikes and they all said the same thing, this one 'moved them' like no other. This will be my next bike for sure. I may have to buy two, one for when the other one is in the shop LOL.

    Just bought a new 2022 Super Adventure S. This was the only bike that was able to make me change my fantastic BMW R1200 GSA.

      How did the ktm pan out? I’ve got a 2018 r1200 gsa rallye I’m considering changing for the ktm, any big issues with it🤔 I had a ktm 1090 before the bmw and I sort of miss it🤨

      @@julianmorris9951 Had the KTM for 5 Months, one Month of that was spent in the dealers workshop. A big coolant leak from day one and they couldn't find where it was leaking. The keyless system couldn't sometimes find the key (even though I had both on me). The vibration at 4,500 revs was unbearable, my boots were vibrating off the pegs. I traded it in for a new Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer and couldn't be happier.

    great video - feels very personable and I'm so glad you're staying true to "ready to race." I like the honest anecdotes and real world testing... and I picked up on "the Project Manager rode the bike and the seat didn't meet his standards" This might be my next bike - I'm waiting to see what happens with the 1290 GT.

    I really want USA to be on the same launch timeline from KTM. I would like to buy an R right now, but it won’t be available for some time here in the states, unfortunately. But damn this bike is nice

    Wow! How different and how similar is this bike to my old 2016 KTM 1290 advT, is truly astonishing. I really miss my old semi active suspension from the T. But it also makes me happy for having at last a great option ahead when I’m ready for replacing my 2019 790AdvS.

    The more I see all the complex electronics on these new bikes, the happier I am to never own one. My 2018 KTM 350 EXC-F has none of this electronic insanity, and I can ride 10 minutes from my garage to incredible off-road trails where I spend 90% of my riding time. I love the light weight, powerful motor, and plush suspension and predictable handling. We all have different needs and expectations from our motorcycles, but after 50+ years of riding, these new adventure bikes are very complex, and extremely heavy, and for me that completely eliminates the fun and passion of riding. For someone that spends most of their time on paved roads I am sure this bike would become an awesome companion to share adventures with friends or solo.

    I bought one. 200 miles the suspension packed in. 380 miles the electrical systems started shutting down one at a time. Just managed to crawl to the motorway services before it completely gave up. Three hours for KTM rescue to organise recovery. Got the dealer to collect it from my home. They called me two days later to inform me the wiring loom was faulty! Brand new bike with a break in the wiring loom! Now they have to strip it apart to replace the loom and I'm still waiting for KTM in Austria to send the damn parts! As well as the options I ordered with the bike over two months ago still haven't arrived from KTM either. Bash plate, crash bars and top box still outstanding. One of the panniers didn't latch shut properly and I know they must have noticed that at the dealer because it was covered in WD40 around the keyhole. So compared to my 1290 Super Adventure S (which was faultless over 14k) this new one has irritated me beyond belief.

    Everyone will be buying this one and changing tyres to wired spoke fr better off-road...because r is for only extreme off-road and misses acc and semiactive suspension...most people will look to this rather than extreme offroaders

    Fantastic video explaining all bells and whistles of the 1290 SAS. First time I watch a so deep presentation with real-life example. Very well-done guys.
    I tested ride it this week and I was absolutely amazed by the bike. Probably my end of the year x-mas gift.
    I came from 3x R1200 GSA and what pleasure to put my feet on the ground, use and well-made gearbox and shifter, and many more ...
    PS: I will ask myself if I want to keep your seat manager as the default is harmful as hell.

    Love your layest bikes…. Smashing the Japanese manufacturers on tech. However what I would really like to see is for you to express your confidence in your build quality via the availability of extended factory warranties, like the Yamaha Y.E.S. Program.

      It's the only thing holding me back from buying one right now, there is something desperately wrong if they can't stand by their quality and build. Worryingly there are now quite a few stories of catastrophic engine failures with low mileage.

      @@tadstertrolley7770 I get it. I had a new Super Duke R and Super Adventure R. About $40,000 worth of bikes, and I ride pretty hard. Previously I had a bad QC experience with a new 690 SMC-R I bought. That big expenditure on the 1290s and the knowledge of lack of factory backing coming up wore on me and led me to trade both in with less than a year on either one.
      I now have a MT10 coming in which will leave the lot with a 5 year Yamaha warranty (for only $500) that Yamaha will firmly stand behind. KTM makes real performers, but for an average guy, that is a lot of money hanging out there without any kind of factory backing for QC problems after the 1st 6 months or year depending on the model.

    Hi from Australia. I have just sold my 640 adventure 2003 model 40000km. Mostly outback long distance trips. Trouble free and loved it.
    Because of the high stress design of the Lc4 motor it sounded as if it was ready to grenade itself and at 40000kms I felt i was heading towards it being unreliable.
    I am now in the market for a new adventure machine. The R model is what I would go for but factors such as the premium cost at over $32000 Aust dollars

    All the changes made from the previous model ensure that there are no interchangeable parts, the automotive industry's oldest trick. This model will be superceded in early 2024.
    These bikes are like a Bentayga or a Cullinan.

    Absolutely amazing and stunning machines best suited to covering at least 300 miles/500 kilometres per day otherwise they're a vanity purchase.

    THE BEST BIKE OUT THERE except when you buy the faulty one, in which the gearbox forgets that there's a second gear between third and neutral the moment you try to use the motor to slows down. And specially when KTM do nothing but change parts to fix an unfixable issue in this unit, until I'll badly crash because the bike got neutral in a downhill when it had to break instead. Seven month total at the dealer workshop, every single part changed but the so called "brand new drum system" and the gearbox is still faulty.
    That's is the only trouble with KTM: they prefer spend dozen of work hours and spare parts than give you a functional unit. And that wasn't the only glitch the bike have/had.
    So sad because it's a dream bike INDEED... When it properly works... From time to time... I love it so badly that I'm trying to keep even with all these glitchs!

    Excellent presentation and an awesome motorcycle! I know I really enjoyed the two test rides I’ve taken one on a 2015 super adventure an another on a 2019 SA at a Harley dealer trying to sell the Pan America with the competition there as comparison.. I left wanting the KTM, the GS was nice but didn’t put the smile on my face like KTM.. with all these updates I’m hoping this year will be the year I pull the trigger!

    It's now that you're going to really update the expensive (8.99€) app?
    The app from BMW had also a very low feedback (at least on the portuguese Play Store) but it raised from 2.1 (i think) to 4.5 (not forgetting that many people don't update their feedback when new versions are released). And why? Because BMW has being improving a LOT more their app. Oh, and the one from BMW is FREE!!! The only concern by KTM was to release the app before BMW. Now, compare the features from both apps...
    Also, it's a shame that this new tank design doesn't seem "compatible" with the Mosko Nomax Tank Bag.

    What would happen if a blob of mud or insects suddenly cover the radar while the cruise control is on? Or if a stone breaks it while it's on?
    Really like the bike now, this would certainly be the first bike in my list if I was choosing a big new adventure bike.

    It's unfortunate to say but it really seems that KTM hit the sweet spot with the 2020 model year 1290 Super Adventure. Dare I say the (2020MY) KTM 1290 SAS even looks better, what with no scrotum shaped fuel tanks draped over the sides of the bike, the uninterrupted headlight with no huge cut-out for a black square radar box for ACC, among other things... I've had quite a bit of time at this point to see & review the new model's aesthetics and if I'm totally honest it isn't growing on me as new models of bikes / cars can sometimes take a little while to get used to and finally begin to appreciate the changes in design language. Unfortunately for KTM I don't get the response from so many people that they prefer the design of the 2021 model over the 2020 model, and I share the same opinion, I much prefer the design aesthetic of the 2020 model year SAS. I suppose the upside is that the 2020 model really only lacks the ACC function (standard cruise control is still there), 0.5inch smaller TFT (I never thought the 6.5inch TFT of the 2020 to be lacking in size), and the new handlebar control buttons. Sure they have tweaked radiators and various other things too but in my honest opinion these aren't deal breakers for me, I'm much more interested in having more leg room, a more visually pleasing bike (2020MY) - personal opinion, with a headlight uninterrupted by an awkward black box in what was previously an awesomely menacing looking headlight cluster, and last but not least the savings that will invariably come from opting to purchase the previous year's model of the KTM 1290 SAS as KTM are renowned for slashing massive amounts of money from their outgoing models to make way for the "latest & greatest"

    Hi, thanks for the great video. I have a 2019 1290 S. Adv. R, and (when economics permit) thinking to change it for the 2021 S. Adv. S (I'm 168 cm.), I have to ask you about just two things about this new model:
    1_ if the engine is 1.6 kg. lighter, why is the dry weight 3 kg. higher than the previous model?
    2_ Is there any issue with the fuel level indication with the new tri-cell fuel tank?.

    I get phasing out the 1190 when the 1090 came along, but it’s sad to phase out the 1090 now with the next smaller model being under 900cc.

    Surprised you didn't mention the easily adjustable (up / down) headlight when you were talking about the headlight. I am assuming it is on the "S" too, not just the "R"? I really like it.

    Excellent presentation, I agree... But... ACC is really just there for autonomous vehicle interaction, which is really just there for human laziness/convenience, which is really just the beginning of succumbing to big brother dominance in your life. Honestly, don't we ride motorcycles to be more engaged in the moment, in life itself? If you're letting the ACC do the thinking for you while your senses should be heightened... What are you doing instead?! So glad my Gen 1 1290SA has an actual key, no TFT, and especially no ACC. And it has 2 extra gallons of fuel capacity despite only having 1 tank instead of the 3 on this new 1290SAS! 🤣

    Why doesn't the exhaust heat shield go round the side? Then it will protect the can from scrapes, and is easily replaceable.

    On thing I'm not sure of is the total carrying capacity since it seems to all that I've found is max axle weight front and rear, and I'm not entirely clear how to calculate 2 up plus baggage and weight split per axle.

    39:48 you say that these motors are bombproof and never stop... I bought a 1290 SAS 3 months ago, and the engine suddenly shut down twice while driving and it was not possible to restart it. Now they've changed all my electrical wiring,

    Thanks for the video enjoy that a lot well done. Im looking forward to riding your new KTM 1290s coming from 11 BMW GSA GS GS1250 Rallye etc I'm fed up with BMW build quality and in truth fancy a change, I am concerned that KTM seem to sell bikes like New prices e.g. 19k then only after 6 months they become available at huge discounts? Also concerned of build quality ? again i have been told the KTM rear suspension is very cheap and a poor emulsion type. Compared to the Ducati Sky hook on the new Multistrada V4s which I will also be riding before i make my choice.But that said I will make my own mind up I know i will miss the shaft drive and have to go back to chains but I am hoping the KTM is a lot lighter wet and road ready than the Duke and the Bmw.Wish you had put the Bosch rear radar on too with the blind spot assist thats real cool on the Ducati.The first company that actually makes a intergraded GPS that you can download routs GPX files etc will win! Apple car play style Google maps etc not sygic like Ducati have chosen! One the point is why don't KTM offer the spoke wheels tubeless option for the new 1290s instead of innertubes!!!!

      KTM rear suspension? Cheap? In the 1290 range ? Never heard of that. It works great on mine (2017 model). The only thing it’s lacking is the automatic preload adjustment that is possible with the bmw system.

      Think the new 2021 model 1290s now has auto rear preload suspension dies it not?

      @@flapjackbeans I'm not sure it adjusts itself to the pilot's weight (which a few bmw do). The rear preload was already electrically adjustable on the previous model (4 settings : with or without pillion and/or luggage)

    So from an ergonomics standpoint, it's not as good as the current model for tall riders? The seat-to-peg looks a little cramped?

    What are the optimal settings for for example highway high speed? Previous model had issues with some speed instability on front

      I would guess that the new one is a bit more stable, just because of the fact that the steering is closest to the engine and the swing arm is longer. That, plus the new tank and the lower seat should bring the center of gravity forward. I have read (this should be in the video, but I’m writing this before watching) that they worked on the aerodynamics of the handguards for stability reasons as well. After that, you can play with the preload, maybe (quite often, the rear preload has effect on the front stability). 🤷‍♂️
