I absolutely love my California - Bought June 2021. It was more practical than a 458 as my only car and "daily driver". I can actually fit 2 golf bags in the trunk (center back seats fold down) and I can fit 6 bags of groceries in the trunk. That was actually the selling point when I was considering a 458, Audi R8 and Hurican. It has the best trunk space =) Also the JBL "premium" speakers sound phenomenal for a factory upgraded speaker. For those of you who want a cheap stock exhaust upgrade - buy S-line center chamber and remove the stock H-pipe, and plug the vacuum lines with golf tees. I'll make a video of that soon -
Can I ask what year you bought and if it’s a T or not . From my price point T is out of question right now looks like 2010 to 2012 is realistic. Sold my 21 vett and while it’s a great car and statistically quicker it’s still a Chevy and dealing with GM . Do you have any insight opinion if you will on the two , what type of annual maintenance costs do you experience on average . Thanks
I've been looking at the California recently and most my thoughts are similar to yours, but here's a couple things I think are worth mentioning for why to get it and why some may not: Pros: 1. Hard top convertible looks great both up and down and is much more reasonable for most climates. Soft tops are loud and hot and generally don't look good when up. 2. It's an actual drive-able car for regular purposes. You can fit golf clubs in the trunk, pack actual luggage, and toss things in the back seat (small things, lol). 3. It does have a cup holder that pops out near the passenger knee. 4. They've already mostly depreciated from new to used. They'll still depreciate with miles and other general things, but for the most part, if you keep the miles low, they'll hold good value and may even go up a little. Cons: 1. You end up with a decent amount of the Ferrari maintenance costs without having a true exotic looking Ferrari. I've heard it's not too bad, but still a lot more than other premium brands 2. You can still get hit with one of those true Ferrari main failures that can cost $20k and up to fix. People looking for a $80k sports car generally aren't okay with a potential $25k repair bill. 3. It's a very drive-able car, but if you do decide to drive it regularly (4k miles per year), you're going to lose more value than you would on other sports cars.
@adamdrivesla8268 damn, lol. You hit the nail on the head. I'm actually debating one of these vs a gen 1 R8 V10 and I just sold my Vantage a month ago to get something new, lol. So, I definitely agree there. Still a fan of the R8 V10 coupe though and haven't decided between these two. What would your advice there be?
@@mshockey22 Awesome cars, all of them. I think if you can find a good spec V10 R8, I'd probably take that. If it's a manual, then 100% take the R8 because the value can only go up. If you're going to settle for a high mileage R8 is a non-exciting spec, I'd go with the California. It truly still feels like you own a Ferrari. The "Ferrari" experience is definitely there. Sound, interior, power, etc...
Two things - 1 there is a cup holder. 2 I bought one of these 6 months ago and I can sell it for $20- $30k more than I paid, so it was a good investment. Also a blast to drive.
There are actually two cup holders. One inside the center console, and one under the dash near the passenger seat that pops out when you push the button.
I’m getting one to occasionally drive to my high end job sites as a busy Coastal Orange County GC and specifically like them as the don’t look like the Ferrari we all envision.
Great review! The car is exactly as you describe it. I have the Cali 30 and it just screams when you open it up. So much fun to drive. Never use the entertainment system, just listen to the engine!! I also like the looks!
Good balanced review , thank you , looking at these ..getting sick of the hype on the 23 vett ( had a 21 and it is nice at the 80k price point new ) however being on a wait list of 1200 people is getting silly for a Chevy . Currently don’t see many of these with under 20k on them for 100k but will keep looking and waiting . Good info for a guy like me learning about the car . Thanks again
Just got one. I agree with you, it sounds much better than all those latest V8 Twin Turbos like Pista , F8 or Potofino etc😅. It means if this Cali is not a proper Ferrari then all the rest of those latest Ferrari are not either 😅
I think the Ferrari California is one of the best looking Ferraris. Design wise I think it shares a lot of elements with a Maserati, especially the front. Italian sports cars never fails🤩
I loved this video! You were very informative and made me smile a couple of times saying exactly what I was thinking. This was very helpful in nudging me forward to seriously consider buying the one I’ve been looking at. Thank you!
Excellent review and very genuine. I am on the verge of picking up the NA California. I am thinking of going for the 30 edition but I might save 20k and go for the original model. Respect bro.
Ferrari DNA? Ferraris all started out as front engine. In fact, it was the basic low cars that were mid engined. The higher end ones were, and still are the front engine V-12, except for the Hyper cars, F-50, Enxo, and La Ferrari. This just happens to be the first front engine V-8. It is modeled after the 250 GT Californis from the 50's and 60's. See Farris Bueller.
I agree with some of the stuff you mentioned but you do realize the 599 GTO/GBT has the engine in the front also right? Along with the F12/812 Super fast and even the legendary 250 GTO
Right. I think people’s expectation when you discuss a bargain Ferrari is going to be the typical mid engine red over saddle that we’ve seen since we were kids. An entry level front engine Ferrari just didn’t seem to sit well with Ferrari fans, although it was a fantastic car
Have you ever stand next to one with Rosso Corsa (Red color) exterior and Nero (Black color) interior that is loaded with carbon fiber upgrades from the Ferrari Factory? It is Stunning and sparkles like a diamond in the sky!!! 😱😱😎💎 Pictures and videos just don’t do this stunningly beautiful Ferrari any justice at all! Ask me how I know. Yes you guessed it. I just bought her!👍👍😍😎🏎Cheers!!!🍾🥂
You keep going on about the engine being in front and thus it is 'not a ferrari'. It's a GT, the engine is supposed to be in the front. Ferrari have been making GT's since 1948 with the Ferrari 166 Inter :-) Ferrari made 49 different front engine car between 1948 - 1989 and then all the modern ones 456, 612, 599, F12, FF, 812, GT4 Lusso etc etc etc. So talking about the front mounted engine being a 'non ferrari' thing is just not true :-)
48 thousands miles ? WOW. have u ever had gearbox problem ? mine same year but only has 8k miles. im afraid to drive it often. i heard the gearbox nightmare is real
May I know which type of mantainance or extensive work was needed in your 4years ownership ? Assuming you bought a regularly serviced car of course..... Thanks !
@MIKEPERRO VIDEOS pues eso es parte de la personalización, tampoco trae el alerón ni les entradas de aire en fibra de carbono como el de Manuel, el interior también es muy diferente
He is wrong. Unless his car is different, a California goes from 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. Also some californias are over 100,000 usd. Additionally some of them have 490 horsepower.
It’s a great car, but it looks crap in that colour. Look at one in Tour de France blue and it’s gorgeous. Also, one of the reasons that people are wary of buying at around $80,000 is that they simply can’t afford the cost of major repairs. It’s easy to buy one of these, but it’s potentially very expensive to keep it running.
I hate it when people hate on this car. Its a everyday driving car Good luck on spending all that money on gas though. I guess if someone can buy that car gas should not be a problem 😄😄. There are better Ferrari models out there like the Ferrari Roma
My guess Is that the California project was basically about marketing an elegant grand tourer spider offering high performance albeit not intended to be a true sport car. So,wondering whether this is a true Ferrari sounds a bit pointless to me.
Thanks a lot. Your information is very objective and valious. Agree on all points. I think it makes for a great first supercar. I can see people choosing this over a 1st gen R8 or an Aston Martin Vantage.
