This Emperor was „Otto the Welf“, he was Duke of Brunswick ( hence the Lions ), He was a usurper to the Imperial throne, but he was also the Nephew of Richard the Lionheart and John Lackland. He was also quite an doosh and was luckily replaced by Friedrich II of Swabia ( the son of Ottos predecessor, Henry VI of Swabia ), but that’s a different story.
About the HRE > Emperor Otto IV was the son of the first daughter of Henry the Second of England, that could be why they have some english flavour on their shields

Why not? They've got good reach and rate of fire. With more ammo they could become decent at harassing a defensive ennemy, or in slow battles. Crossbow would stay the best "shock" ranged units, and gunners would keep their niche as "hole punchers". Great news for the fix, I trust the devs found a great balance.
Maybe I'm desensitized, but I hope for the eventual Medieval III or its equivalent (let's be honest, Creative will absolutely want to cash in on this), that a new mechanic would be for the troops to pile up when they die, and in chokepoints the men have to climb over and around, effecting combat, morale, etc. Wouldn't be much different than any other terrain programming, and it would add SO much immersion IMO. Then again, Apollo has desensitized me so maybe i'm just wack

It was created by the Pope, and had pretensions towards being the defender of Christianity in general, so if you were Catholic, then it was holy. And the imperial title was explicitly linked to that of ancient Rome, and there were times when the HRE controlled both Rome itself and the papacy, so it was Roman. So no. You're wrong.
Otto von Bismarck actually no the Byzantine empire was Roman but the HRE was holy but wasn't Roman in fact the Romans didn't have Germany for long so how is the hre Roman it's just a title.

nope, he just used them wrong. English/welsh longbow men were the ebst in europe.
