@@JeffreyHackReacts thank you for another great reaction to Voice Play. Call me crazy if you will but I like them better when Cesar took his place. Cesar has a wide vocal range as well. He sings with such purity & emotion. Please do a reaction video of ....I Can't Make You Love Me Just listen to him & you will see what I mean.
Great reaction! We love VioLayne! This song broke so many reactors, it's crazy. Someone thinks it can't be done, Voiceplay says hold my microphone! J. None was recruited to sing with the Navy, but when he's on leave he often comes back and sings with Voiceplay. He may not currently be an official member, but he's definitely a member in spirit and heart!
I still think he's coming back for good once his tour is over. Why else would they NOT bring in a fifth person permanently? Omar fits in wonderfully I think.
@@nightthornkvala94132 I totally agree. They and J have been hinting to that happening. They even said their New Year's resolution is to kidnap J 😹. All their fans and reactors want him to come back as well. No one thinks of him as a feature. He's a member that took a hiatus to sing in the navy for 5 years. In the meantime he sings with them when he can.
I think that was an E1. His other drop note was an A1. J None was a member of VoicePlay until the US Navy recruited him for his vocal talents. He came back after bootcamp and did Friends on the Other Side and a mini or short at that time. VP had this one lined up in the fall but J None's leave got cancelled so they put it on hold until he could get here. They also the Chili's comercial, Made You Look as shorts. If you haven't seen Warriors and would to see more of VioLayne and a bit of VioJNone.
J. None used to be a member of Voice Play before he joined the Navy, but he occasionally will take leave to come back to sing with them still. He knows very well how to work with these members.
And VioLayne breaks yet another reactor 😂. Great reaction to an amazingly awesome song. Thank you for reacting to this. It is my absolute favorite of there's.
I am a metalhead and I adore this song. The reverence, Passion, artistry That they have given this song astounds me. I have never wanted to hear A groups reaction when someone covers their song but with this I am dying to know. Great reaction.
A lot of us VoicePlay fans would love to see J None come back to the group, this group of 5 doing this song is just phenomenal. I know they technically are missing the 'high' tenor that Earl contributed, but these guys have such phenomenal ranges that I think it could work. One of the reactors I watched said his only quibble was that J brought 'a little soul' that didn't seem to fit with the rest of the song, which I definitely disagree with! I think it helped him express what the lyrics meant and made him feel and added to the awesomeness.
I also enjoy the 4 piece ensemble with a 5th guest. Each time it's like you get a different band with underpinnings of the Voiceplay we all love. Then again, they could make it a 5 piece with a 6th guest 🙂
An a cappella group could never do Metalli.......never mind. VoicePlay. These guys are going to kill me. Geoff arranged this, but he said Eli did all those high notes to himself and not the way he wrote them.
Lol....love that you stated there are exceptions to the "no instrumentation" in Acapella. For me, VioLayne invited another voice to add their voice to this epic piece. And, yes, I get chills at this point....especially when Geoff's dragon gutteral shows up. That's a mighty rare occasion when that happens. Just sayin'
As others pointed out, J isn’t new, but 2 years in the Navy has changed him. He looks and sounds more mature and normally doesn’t sing this low (same for Eli). Definitely recommend Warriors. Layne’s violin is amazing, and because he can, J also plays for part of it. Also, you should treat yourself to listening to Geoff’s recently released Till Then. He somehow combined that low bass with a breathy, soft feel. The height of romance 💘.
Till Then tidbit.... Only Geoff and his wife Kathy are at the studio during filming. She makes 2 cameo appearances in the video. Beginning and end. But many on Geoff face (smile and eyes).
I think that this is a great Choice of the Metallica library for an a cappella group to cover! They did do a really awesome job of capturing the essence of the original and making it in the a cappella style! Beautiful!! Great reaction!❤❤❤👏👏👏👏
I've watched multiple reaction videos to this piece over the last week+. It's an awesomely seamed performance and video! 100% BUT I have yet to find anyone who reacts to Geoff's splash bass notes at the 9:40 and 10:10 mark on your video. The first few times that I heard the video, I was similarly mesmerized by Layne's wonderful violin performance (so nice to see him have the opportunity to show those chops off again!). Only on multiple viewings was I picking up on those crazy bass splashes so perfectly timed. Master arranger!
Jeffrey, I know you need to pause and react and that is why we come. I just want to say that you are going to absolutely ❤❤❤❤ this when you get to listen, uninterrupted, by yourself after your video. 🎉
You have reacted to JNone at least 6 times by now. He was their baritone 2016-2021, when he was recruited to sing for the Navy on a 5-years contract. Cesar joined when he left. JNone been back with his old buddies on his leaves, for instance in Friends On The Other Side and also a lot of shorts. VP has used the violin once before, 3 years ago in Warriors. Then BOTH Layne and JNone played violin, mostly VioLayne, a nickname he has earned.
I've always liked this song (not into metal), but I love this cover. It is just stunning. Thanks for the reaction! I've really been enjoying reactions to this song. I love watching minds getting blown away. :)
Really enjoyed your reaction and commentary to this. I watched it for two weeks on Patreon before the public release, and have been watching reactors since. You are always entertaining and informative. Thanx! You have not reacted to their cover of I Can't Make You Love Me. It is heartbreakingly beautiful, I think you will love it. The featured performer is E J Cardona, he is a tenor with Voctave. Pretty please?
I decided after watching many reactions to this cover, to dedicate this song to my Hubby of almost 25 years. We have other songs, but lately when everything else is falling apart around me Hubby holds me together. So Nothing Else Matters but him to me.
I’m glad you got to this-I was looking forward to your reaction. I only wish I could join all the Patreon accounts for channels I love. Right now I’m buried under vet bills for my elderly cat (and a younger one needs an ECG, which won’t be cheap either), and our local energy monopoly just jacked up our gas bills by 54%, when they were already ridiculously high, so I won’t be digging out anytime soon. Sorry!! Like, subscribe and comment is the best I can do to support you guys right now. OH, ETA: that was a big fat E1 sub from Geoff. If you read thru the comments a day or two after a video comes out, there are a couple people who make a point of letting us know the low notes in songs like this. Geoff keeps them busy!! LOL.
So the question I had for you was whether you knew of a way to light J.None a bit better for the distance shots. He was fine in most of the close shots, but not as well lit as I’d like for the distance ones.
Some people call it cheating when VioLayne plays the violin in some of their songs. Voice Play broke all the rules when they did this . It makes a particular song better & more engaging. Now other groups such as Pentatonix with their cello's , & Home Free with a guitar have followed in their footsteps.
Kevin from PTX please the cello in their video of shallow which was done fairly early on in their career. You can always tell where In The PTX timeline you are by Mitch's hairstyle and the length of hair. That being said as a medal head the respect that they showed the original is unlike I've ever seen a group do. I've never wanted to know what a group has felt about a cover another group has done with 1 of their songs but this 1 I really really want to know.
Thank you for your reaction! I always look forward to hearing your comments. I subscribe to only a handful of reactors that enhance the videos with thoughtful commentary. Your reactions could be twice as long and I would be pleased!
This is one of, if not, my most favorite Metallica song, and they do it justice, and step it up in a Voiceplay way. I love seeing the VioLayne...it just adds to it. They have gotten so good Thank you for a great reaction Jeffrey.
If you like beautiful melodies and striking bass tones check out Hooked On a Feeling by the Bass Gang feat. Tim Foust. Eyes have been widening and jaws have been dropping among reactors for the past week. Amazing! A new favorite for me, the song and the group.
Must admit I left your reaction till tonight as I got new headphones. I listened thoer version again and wow what a difference a good pair make, my old pair the right ear didn't work.
it isnt a violin .. it is violayne :D i still cant believe geoffs range .. i mean in the second part from him he is way down then way up just to ride back down O_O
J.None was a regular member of VoicePlay for 2-3 years, before he enlisted in the Navy, he collborates with them ,when he can,......You have heard his voice before.....please check your research......>^^
It may be a Metallica cover but stylistically this arrangement sounds closer to Journey or Styx. A lovely cover regardless. In the initial bell tones lead-in Geoff had a lovely E2 subharmonic that slid down to an E1.
You missed one really amazing thing that was going down here…. pay attention to when Eli takes a breath. A lot of that belting came after he’d already done 3/4 of a verse on one breath.
Never been on your stream before, but thought I would say early into this reaction....I like the expertise you offer and how quick you are to acknowledge your musical limitation. At least not being pitch perfect. Of course we know all other musicians who react are....right? Also you do not pause, rewind, pause, rewind excessively. That is significant all by itself. Music is to first be listened to, then break down its elements, strengths, weaknesses, techniques, etc. I haven't subscribed yet, but I will continue to like, comment and....well .... we'll see. Btw, Acapella groups are my main interest, but bassist groups as well. Future reference: I am tired of PTX. Over played, over done, choking on sameness. My opinion only. I started listening to them first when Avi Kaplan was their bass, but I became disillusioned by their creative trend after he left. Again, personal preference presented here. There are plenty of other artists and groups for me--The Hu, for example, or Marcin Patrzalek.
It has been said that Pentatonix is the group you can bring home to mama. At first I thought so but the girl ( I don't even remember her name ) has been dressing a little risque ). That shows you how interested I am of the group in general.
Yes, J None gave us a moment of intimacy with him, the man. So satisfying.
J None is a former full time member that is now in the Navy' This was done when J None was home on leave. Love your reaction to the violin.
Wow, that makes his solo all the more special in my eyes. Glad you enjoyed the reaction 😁

Yes, Marsha, they have become much more "pop culture" in appearances and their approach to songs is not what I first found so enchanting about them.
You low key could be related to Stephen Amell...
The violin is actually covering a guitar solo, so it doesn't count
