Geoff is pronounced as Jeff, it's the old European original spelling, short for Geoffrey. J.None, (real name Jessie Nunn) used to be a member of VoicePlay but was approached by the US Navy to sing for their music section. in 2021 I think. He returns to sing with them when he's on leave. Fans hope that when his years of duty are over that he might return to the group because he is much missed. Geoff has been working on his bass range for years, and has made videos on how to sing low, or very low. He continues to reach lower and lower notes. The bearded bald members is Eli , pronounced as ellie and the one with loads of hair is Cesar. The one doing the vocal percussion, and violin, is Layne. VoicePlay is phenomenal and many people are stunned by their videos. They deserve a lot more attention than they get.
I love watching people react to this. Nothing Else Matters is my favorite song and this is actually my favorite version of it (Sorry Metallica). Seeing people be too into the song to pause and talk about it makes me smile.
Geoff= Jeff; Eli is short for Eliezer, and rhymes with jelly. J was a member for several years, left in late spring, 2021 to go sing for the navy. Has been back on leave to record with VP. They really follow their vision of the song - for instance, True Colors was arranged by Layne, the beatboxer, and there is no vocal percussion in their cover. Layne sings. I think that doing it on your own, without a label, is the only way performances like this CAN be done. They've settled on a very effective process: they discuss and agree collaboratively that a particular song should be done - someone "claims" it, typically Geoff or Layne. (This was one of Geoff's). Then the one who claimed it treats it as an art project, arranges it and makes all the decisions. When they bring it back to the group the others are free to provide feedback and suggestions (bringing the violin in was Layne's idea) and the one who arranged makes the final decision. No arguments, no fighting for it. Just opinions, decisions and art. No vetos looming over your head from managers and labels, just their own dedication. They CONSTANTLY push themselves in new directions, and incorporate new techniques and tactics. Always fresh, always interesting, never pandering to what the expectations are.
And VioLayne breaks another reactor. Awesome reaction. They're known as both The Theater Kids of Acapella and The Kings of Halloween because they love to dress up in costumes, props, settings, etc according to the songs their doing. As in the Viking ones I just mentioned above... They are dressed as viking warriors. In The Hall of The Mountain King they're Trolls. In Hide and Seek they're Ghosts from the Haunted Mansion at Disney World. In Dragonborn Comes they're characters from the game. Enemy they're characters from the TV show/game. Geoff Castellucci does the same on his channel as well. He usually clones himself for harmonies. Rains of Castemere he's the 4 Lannister men. Ghosts Riders In The Sky he's the storyteller and 4 Ghosts. Way Down he and 2 are janitors, the 3rd is the supervisor. Both have nothing but absolutely awesome videos.
My daughter and I drive around in the car and play this through the speakers all the time. We feel the rattling in the door and trim. It's awesome. The Halo theme really shook the car.
Watching your brain come to a screeching halt when that violin comes flying in! Perfect moment! So Geoff is pronounced "Jeff". Eli (the bald guy) is pronounced "Elly" (like Jelly) Cesar is the guy to Eli's right, with the amazing breathy baritone/tenor voice of an angel, and Layne is the vocal percussion maniac with the mad violin skills, and also has a lovely singing voice. We hope J.None returns to the group full time when his stint in the navy is over! Thanks for a great reaction........love that stunned look on your face at the end! Did you get the number of the truck that hit you? LOL! Geoff's subharmonics do that to everyone! Definitely react to Dream On. It is brilliant! I'm all subscribed now. Your reaction was priceless!
Your stammering and loss for words were completely appropriate and expected - and a lot of fun to watch!!!This vocal MASTERPIECE is a close to perfection as it gets.
Geoff is just a freak of nature, that's the only way to explain it 😂 this one is one of their masterpieces. It's just so good, and I'm not even a Metallica fan. Hoist the Colours and dream on are fantastic too ❤
Love this song - they killed it! Other greats: Hoist the Colours, Warriors, Carry On Wayward Son, Tennessee Whiskey, Dream On, The Wicked Medley, Queen in 5 Minutes (and so many more).
Just so’s you know, within a few days of each new song’s release, someone will post a comment that lists the low (and sometimes high) notes so you can see how low Geoff is going. It’s interesting. Scroll down and you’ll see those blue numbers that tell you where the notes fall in the video, and you can click them if you need to. This won’t be the first time a reactor has nothing to say but “gaaahh” at the end of one of these guys’ videos. Loved this reaction! More, please!!
The low notes that impressed you are subharmonics, something Geoff has worked hard to perfect. They let him drop far lower than normal vocal techniques
I LOVE this song and what VoicePlay has done with it. I hope they get some awards for it. Layne (beatboxer) is also a baritone and violinist. He doesn't do it often, the last time was 3 yrs ago when VoicePlay did Warriors (Imagine Dragons). He has earned the nickname VioLayne. J None also plays his violin for a few phrases. Once you've done this - go and react to Dream On. Different line up since J None is in the US Navy and Earl has left VP after 23 yrs or so for personal reasons. Cesar has joined VoicePlay and is a great addition, and they brought in Omar Cardona as guest vocalist. The 2 videos are very similar feelings. Geoff has called Dream On - Warriors 2. Another video you might enjoy is Geoff's on How to Sing Really Low. One of my reactors is taking lessons from Geoff's video!
J. None is a former group member. He left the group summer of 2021 and signed up for five years in the Navy. He is currently the new frontman for Navy Band Northwest! When he's home in Florida on leave he rejoins the group for videos and minis. My opinion is that they are holding his spot open for his return. Geoff (Jeff) Bass, Layne (Lane) Baritone, beatboxer, VIOLAYNE, Eli (Ellie) rhymes with Jelly Tenor, and Cesar with all the hair is Tenor/Baritone. I've gotta say, this reaction was hilarious! What's even funnier is that my reaction on this side of the monitor was in sync with yours. I've never heard these performers before, so I think I'm slightly more blown away than you were. You're such a fun reactor to watch, though. I'm a big fan.
Yep...most new VoicePlay listeners go into shock when they start listening to these amazing guys! Geoff is a dragon slayer of epic proportions! Enjoy the ride and welcome to the VoicePlay rabbit hole
I've been listening to this group for a good couple if years now and I still find it difficult to comprehend how they do it.. .. Geoff is actually pronounced Jeff.. Eli, the bald guy is pronounced Ell-ee.. Cesar has the fluffy hair Layne is the vocal percussionist. And of course there is J.None, who was also a permanent member until joining the navy.. We're hoping he'll be rejoining when his stint is done... Watch this space.. 😊🇬🇧
Also... Voiceplay released their new video on Patreon Monday morning. It is epic. I suggest watching My Mother Told Me by them before watching this one. Same show and theme. Different song.
You're right, what they do is incredible! You can't go wrong with any VP music. Check out Dream On, Dragonborn Comes, and for something fun - Butter. The new one about to drop is just crazy good! Also, they're so nice to their patrons - humble, funny, kind people.
They are amazing and the patreons allow them to do a lot this one broke quite a few reactors you won’t be disappointed by any of their stuff you listen to ❤🏴
I _have_ played this song in my car. It did not explode, probably because the speakers were not capable of channeling Geoff's low notes. And yes, they've done Dream On, as well as a cover of Carry On Wayward Son which (just for the record) 100% has this Supernatural fan's stamp of approval. Keep an eye on their channel...they've got something coming down the pipeline that'll knock your socks off.
Great reaction and I’m really pleased to see you return to VoicePlay. There were a lot of recommendations and I concur with each and every one of them but I would like to make a different recommendation. I think your next one should be My Mother Told Me, an Icelandic saga, used in the game Assassin‘s Creed and also the television program for Vikings. J was still a permanent member of the group at that time and their guest artist is someone that stepped in at the last minute: Jose Rosario Junior who was able to join them. It was when Covid travel restrictions were on and the original artist couldn’t make it. Jose was home from the Chicago company of Hamilton due to the theater being shut down. Cesar, the guy with the fluffy hair in the video you just watched, performed with Jose in high school. Cesar wasn’t a member yet, as he replaced J. It’s a good set up to their newest that should be coming out within a week or so which is also Viking themed. It’ll get you in the mood! J came back for this one.
Welcome to the Voiceplayers, another rabbit hole for you. Can I recommend their version of the Halo Theme? For 2 reasons. It's fabulous and the end has an explanation of a tribute to a member of their team. In that you learn the back history of Voiceplay, been going around 20 years now. If you watch more videos you'll see various guest stars and former Tenor Earl, who left and was in the band early on. Geoff, Laine and Earl went to the same School. They spent along time working in theme parks in Florida along with Geoff's wife Kathy, who often produced these videos along with Laine who owns Patty Cake productions. If you watch some Home Free, Geoff has made arrangements for them too. Home Free and Voiceplay were on the same series of The Sing Off that Home Free won.
I totally agree with you 😁👍🤩 I always find it so exciting how people react to these talents, I'm the biggest fan, yes yes and Geoff, what can I say?!!! ❤💋👏👏👏
Thank you for a priceless reaction to Voice Play. They are so underrated as an a capella group. They not only do their own arrangements but did three arrangements for the Broadway Disney show ( The Villains Medley : Friend Like Me : Thinking Out Loud & Come Fly With Me. They also helped Home Free with some arrangements for their cover song Elvira. Geoff ( Jeff ) low bass singer has his own channel doing all solo work. He clones himself 3 or 4 times & harmonizes with himself beautifully. His latest solo cover is Sounds Of Silence. In this one you don't go see his clones but you hear them. Please react to it for us.
Welcome to the wormhole of Voiceplay. Thoroughly enjoyed your reaction. Keep in mind that "everything matters" to this group. The lights, background, clothes, etc. are critical components to each song. Be sure to check out their website and listen to some of the older songs. Their style is simple - if the song moves them and they feel they have something to add - they will do it. They are not Karaoke singers.
VioLayne shocked viewers and reactors! He premiered a couple of years ago in Warriors and killed it. Eli is a rock star and Geoff (the bass) has a 5 octave range, which he displays in his recent solo release of Sound of Silence (he has a solo YT channel).
So far, VP has only 2 arrangements with violin. The first was "Warriors". It's a post-apocalyptic themed masterpiece. Violayne makes his debut there, and I highly recommend it.
Yep. That was the same reaction that a LOT of us had when VoicePlay released this. This is still in my short, MUST BE IN MY EARS NOW playlist. It is so amazingly well done.
This was absolutely awe inspiring, but I think the next release tops this one. Anything they do will never miss. Goeff's lowest note is a B0 in HALO, but you can really hear a clear and awesome C1 at the very end of Way Down. He's done the latter live on his channel just to prove it's not auto tune. As for the production, Layne co owns PattyCake Productions with Tony Wakim, a former member of VP, and the put out a lot of really good things too.
I loved how at around 6:15 you were adoring (like I do) how simple the arrangement was, appreciated no imitating guitars... then at 9:50 there's almost 2 minutes of ranting about how good they are although there's definitely percussion, guitar imitation 😄it's not just how good they are at runs & beatboxing & bass etc, it's how they use it and where they choose to use it. Another arranger could have used the same techniques and had it fall flat. It boggles my braincell how they manage to be so true to the original and yet undeniably their own style
Voice Play are known as The Theater Kids of a capella. They go all out when it comes to theatrics. Please react to Voice Plays cover In The Hall Of The Mountain King & you will see first hand. It is an incidental piece never any words to it. The music was widely used in some movies ( Home Alone for one ) & in many cartoons as well.
I really enjoyed your reaction and am a new subscriber looking foward to more of your reactions to Voice Play and bass singer, Geoff Castellucci solo work. I agree with the other comments from fellow "Voice Players (fans of Voice Play) about checking out "Warriors" which features beat boxer, Layne or "Violayne" as we are calling him now, shredding the violin while beatboxing (J None also plays the violin in that cover). Another comment suggested their Viking themed cover of "My Mother Told Me" which is a good prequal to the song, "Vahalla Calling", which they are about to release within the next week. "Vahalla Calling" was just posted on Voice Play's Patron channel for us to preview and it is beyond Epic and amazing- don't miss that one!! If you want to hear Voice Play rock out, check out their covers of "Dream On" and "Carry On My Wayward Son". All the members of Voice Play and their frequently featured guests are from Orlando Florida and have worked as performers for Universal and/or Disney theme parks. Geoff ("Jeff") and his wife, Kathy, worked for a long time for Universal's "Beetlejuice Graveyard Review" and performed in the annual 'Halloween Horror Nights' shows so their Disney and Halloween themed videos are the best on the internet.
Definitely listen to their cover of 'Dream On!' Their guest singer on that is Omar Cardona, who's sung with them a few times already - he has a beautiful, angelic tenor which fits in perfectly with the Voiceplay vibe (if J.None doesn't make a permanent return to the group in the future, I'd be very happy to see Omar become a permanent member.) Others I can recommend: if you're a gamer, there's 'The Dragonborn Comes' from Skyrim, and the 'Halo' theme (advise you to listen right to the end of that video, for some backstory and a tribute to a much-loved member of their team.) From their archives, there's 'Queen in Five Minutes' and 'Boybands in Five Minutes' (you'll see J.None again in them, plus Earl, their 'surprise tenor' from back in the day, prior to Cesar.) And other, more recent bangers are 'Hoist The Colors,' 'My Mother Told Me,' 'Carry On My Wayward Son...'
Bonker donkers!!! 😂😂😂😂 I think that may very well be the absolute best description I have ever heard for this group! Welcome to the deep end my friend! ❤❤❤
Just a random compliment on your video production choices - Love that you have the entire fullscreen TH-cam window captured with the Artist-Song Title underneath. So many reaction channels choose to crop out the lowermost part of their TH-cam window. Wanting to hide the progress bar and settings interface when visible is the only reason I can think of to do that, I just don't understand why. Why would anyone care if however much is left of the video is visible if it's paused? The main issue that makes me dislike it is that doing that cuts off any enabled subtitles once the progress bar auto-hides itself as you play the video. Partially or entirely depending on how much is cut off. To be fair, oftentimes you don't need any subtitles (or at least I don't), but I just think it is a bit strange to deny viewers the ability to follow along with lyrics if they're there for the reactor anyway. That was certainly a lot of words. Anyway, nice reaction mate :)
A person commenting on this video on another channel put it this way Geoff to Voiceplay, "How can we break reactors this time?" Voiceplay, "Throw a violin in it?" Geoff literally throws a violin at Layne. Great reaction and you can't go wrong with Voiceplay or Geoff Castellucci's solo work. Can't wait to see what you pick next
Deffinitly do "Dream On," "Queen in 5 minutes"...there's a VERY deep rabit hole here. I see others have dropped the names and pronunciations already (We Voiceplayers LOVE to inform about our favorite obsession...er.. I mean a bout the Boys... For some of Geoff's solo stuff...my favorites include "High and Dry", "Ain't No Sunshine", and of course "Sound of Silece" among others. Enjoy, and welcome to the fandom ..and the rabit hole
Great reaction. This cover has broken many reactors before you. From what I have heard, Layne tried the guitar solo vocally, but it was decided to let him use the violin instead. For this video, they layered the percussion and that frogburp while Layne played the violin. This wasn't the first time Layne played the violin. If you watch their cover of Warriors both Layne and J-none play the violin.
Ok... first, welcome to the dragon's den. Yes, that is in fact his voice. And you need to put their Halo tribute on your list for soon. Please watch the whole end credits for that one because it is a tribute to one of their original team that we lost last year. But he gets within a couple notes of zero, as in the "there is no lower" zero, the first note on a full sized keyboard.
Hey! They dropped, Valhalla Calling. Viking theme. Apparently, Valhalla is Viking heaven. JNone is on this one too and pulls a big surprise for everybody. Please check that one. You'll love it.
How do they do this as independents? A whole lot of work and a lot of very loyal patrons. When the pandemic hit, they did a fast “drop back and punt” maneuver to keep going by doing a hard pivot to focusing on videos. They have a lot of patrons and they committed to at least one vid a month. Now, they have a bit of an edge. Layne (beatboxer/violin) owns a small production studio with another fellow named Tony. (Tony used to be a singer in VoicePlay but he hated the touring). They started out hiring help as needed , but as the pandemic dragged on, they started learning how to do more and more on their own. Now Geoff and Layne can both do video editing. Geoff does the basic sound editing (it goes to a pro for the final mix), Eli learned out to handle the lighting and is now working in Unreal Engine to do animated backgrounds. (He did all the backgrounds in Valhalla Calling) . They all work on set design/building and I think Layne handles most of the costuming. I believe they can all run the camera too, although Layne is the one that’s done the most work with the steady cam. So they save quite a bit on production costs by literally doing it ALL themselves. The only thing they hire for now is high end & complex makeup, the final sound mix, and the occasional extra camera guy. And of course. they shoot most of their vids and the studio Layne and Tony own. (Pattycake Productions) This particular vid was an “in house” vid. Shot at Pattycake, with them doing everything. So…they have taken “independent” to a whole new level. Which makes the production quality of their vids even more impressive.
I would highly recommend listening to 'Hoist the Colours' with guest singer Jose Rosario, Jr.. Also, their 'Moana' melody and 'The Little Mermaid' melody are fantastic. 'Dream On' is phenomenal as well as 'The Warriors' (another great violin showcase), 'Enemy', 'The Dragonborn Comes', 'My Mother Told Me', 'If I Were A Rich Man/Girl', just listen to their whole catalog of music. Unbelievable. Their version of 'Friends on the Other Side' from Disney's The Princess and the Frog is fabulous. Their Halloween music is fantastic, especially 'Oogie Boogie' and 'Hide and Seek'. I suggest you just dive down the rabbit hole of 'Voice Play'. You won't regret it.
If you're gonna fall down the a capella rabbit hole, you have to know the big 3-Voiceplay, Home Free, Pentatonix. The basses of them are Geoff (Voiceplay), Avi Kaplan (formerly of Pentatonix), Tim Foust (Home Free). If you like Geoff's bass check out his tenor. New basses coming in The Bass Gang. I can't go on without writing a dissertation. Just know that the a capella rabbit hole is long, winding, and wonderful. You're welcome. Enjoy😄😄😄😄😄😄
Geoff arranged this one. If you want to know, he has a 5 octave range. I think he may be on the verge of 6 octaves. The last line he sings in Oogie Boogie shows his octave range. Starts high in the attic and goes all the way to the basement. He has his own channel on TH-cam as well.
You need to check out their rendition of dream on and it is Geoff pronounce Jeff, Layne pronounce Lane, Cesar like the emperor, Eli pronounced Ele’. J None pronounced J. Non, was a previous member who joined the Navy, but he comes back, and occasionally still things with them.
Voiceplay released their new video on patreon Monday morning. Be prepared for Vikings to invade again. This is the sequel to My Mother Told Me. Geoff (Jeff) Castelucci is working on his new video right now. He posted part of it on his patreon Friday night He's finishing this weekend and will post the finished video on patreon early this week. He's gone country on us.
Geoff sings sub bass notes, those are rattling your headphones. Well you have heard the sound of silence now you know/feel his range. He has gone true a very dark time with his wife because she was a singer but lost a major part of hearing. Still she can feel his deep voice and they grew closer to each other. When you want to be blown away listen to Halo and don't miss the part at the end where it is explained why they dedicated this song. (Have some tissues near I cried when I heard th explanation.)
The lowest bass note Geoff has done is The Oogie boogie song from The movie The Nightmare Before Christmas but he has done really low bass. J None use to be a member but he was one that left because was in the army or navy so he left but not long ago he had a wedding not long ago that some the VoicePlay members where there. I love ACA Top 10 stuff and the Disney stuff love the We Don't Talk about Bruno.
Geoff has an incredible range of 5 octaves, he says he is a bariton but with a bass training thats why he can sing that low (but nobody believes that 😛) please react oogie boogie's song by them you will be amaze from high and low notes from geoff
LOL - you are not the first reactor VoicePlay has made their brain malfunction. 🤯 Geoff’s (Jeff) solo channel be warned he has a large range and also sings high
Don't feel bad.....this cover of theirs "BROKE" 98% of ALL reactors...besides the vocals, when VioLayne came out....they had their own "Jaw dropping'' moment........>^^

Most of the reactors have been flabbergasted, some even more than you were.
You should listen to Warriors, then Dream On.
I never get tired of VioLayne
I totally agree with you 😁👍🤩
I always find it so exciting how people react to these talents, I'm the biggest fan, yes yes and Geoff, what can I say?!!!
I think you would really like Geoff’s videos on how to sing low on his own channel.
I do love watching reaction channels discovering the Voiceplay rabbit hole. For my money, they're the absolute best.
Also Geoff is pronounced “Jeff”. I had the same thought when I saw the name my first time too. Quite a group aren’t they? :)
F1 chest and c1 fry! So good
I loved how at around 6:15 you were adoring (like I do) how simple the arrangement was, appreciated no imitating guitars... then at 9:50 there's almost 2 minutes of ranting about how good they are although there's definitely percussion, guitar imitation 😄it's not just how good they are at runs & beatboxing & bass etc, it's how they use it and where they choose to use it. Another arranger could have used the same techniques and had it fall flat.
It boggles my braincell how they manage to be so true to the original and yet undeniably their own style
So awesome seeing Voiceplay turn even a music producer into a gushing fan-boy ))
Welcome to the VoicePlay rabbithole, TYLR! They never cease to amaze! Thanks for your review.
I was waiting for this!!
Beautiful reaction! Thank you. They definitely are amazing!
freakin vibed with that a ton. epic energy.
I absolutely love this reaction!!! Truly, it is so much fun to see new people find this incredible group. You are an awesome reactor. Thank you.
amber fuchscia thank you so much for your kind words! Really means a lot to me! 😄
A person commenting on this video on another channel put it this way
Geoff to Voiceplay, "How can we break reactors this time?"
Voiceplay, "Throw a violin in it?"
Geoff literally throws a violin at Layne.
Great reaction and you can't go wrong with Voiceplay or Geoff Castellucci's solo work. Can't wait to see what you pick next
freakin vibed with this so much. top and super unique. how did I not know them before? 🤘
Great reaction! For me it is a toss-up between this song and Dream on as my Favorite Voiceplay performance.
And, VoicePlay breaks another reactor.
I think you're mistaking Geoff for Jeoph, one of Geoff's clones. They do look alike.
Great reaction, 😊😊 Geoff Castellucci, pronounced Jeff, has his own channel and has just done an epic cover of The Sound of Silence 🥰🥰
I should totally wait until the end of the video before commenting lol 😂
He'll get to it, but he is not ready for a full song of just Geoff yet. Imagine him seeing Misty Mountains.
They broke another reactor lol. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Geoff also has his own channel
(Pattycake Productions)
This particular vid was an “in house” vid.
NOBODY EXPECTS THE VIOLAYNE! NOBODY!
The notes that geoff is hitting is called subharmonics
Oh hello there. Welcome to the rabbit hole. There is no escape from here.
How do they do this? Very well. lol Not much these guys can't do.
Geoff has a confirmed vocal range of B0-A5
You need to check out their newest Valhalla calling you will be so impressed
Just subscribed. Please do some more VoicePlay reactions... you will like it - and we too!!😂🎉
Geoff has an incredible range of 5 octaves, he says he is a bariton but with a bass training thats why he can sing that low (but nobody believes that 😛) please react oogie boogie's song by them you will be amaze from high and low notes from geoff
Geoff had balrog living in it
Oh you should try Voiceplays cover of the Halo theme
Very much here for more VP and Geoff. Just subscribed.
You should react to Oogie Boogie's Song. It's a bit old but it shows Geoff's full range and it's also pretty entertaining.
Geoff is proof that there is life on other planets and that they are cruel life forms because they sent him to us to make us all feel inferior 😂
I play this loud in my car and he shakes the windows.
LOL Voiceplay and VioLayne just broke another reactor..
VioLayne swallowed the drum kit…lol
Lol
Layne, the beatboxer, has broken many a reactor when the violin comes out. You are just another reactor that has been broken.
