We've all forgotten to swap from attack closest to attack rear when storming at least once...
So much more than once for me...Oops.

I know there is some check units do to see if they will even keep obeying an attack rear command every time they run past a unit. I assume it applies to wall archers as well. Only flyers can guaranteed attack rear since they don't actually pass anyone.

There's always Relief, and bringing one or two mages that can deal with it, for example an undead mage or stacking invig items. The game is filled with tactics that will punish an unprepared with ultimate costs.
