My best guess for why Nuln is in Naggarond is map compression. When you panned over the empire there did not seem to be enough room for all three empire factions, so I would guess there is only one Empire start location and that one is keyed to Altdorf. I absolutely love Sombre's work - it is amazing and thematic, and I have spent a lot of time with the mod in Dom5.
The one you're referencing is in South America, not the north and while a faction in total war, it's more of a representation of one chip in the bucket for every faction in the jungle brawl ruleset There isn't anything specific centred where Nuln spawned in this map so it is probably truly random as aligned with speculation that the small map doesn't have a nuln province proper
Even as it is there are a bunch of start locations adjacent or with only a single province between them. The map would benefit from a cave layer. It’s very easy to get penned in especially if you don’t have swimming or boats to cross the oceans
I have no idea what I am in for. The one time I played in 5 was right on Norsca release. We beat up the Skaven and then just domkilled the rest of the map, so we never had a chance to really see some matchups.
@@ZanGames I'm getting the impression that these Elves are more powerful than base game races but I may be just not noticing the costs as a viewer -and they aren't fighting base game opponents anyway.
28:00 thank you! I hadn't thought of the candles yet but I would have soon The white-blue troops stand out quite well so far but when you get masses of human-sized troops or mixed armies mingling it definitely helps to have the squares shown (so long as it's not beige v tan!). I suspect it's less valuable for the actual player who naturally knows better what's in their own army and how it should behave but also has the ability to interact to check on anything they aren't sure of.
spoilers: I keep forgetting. I have a stack of post-it-notes from my office next to me. I'm going to start using those when I stream/record to remind myself to turn things like that on. Its so commonly requested and I just autopilot without noticing.
Thanks! If you have seen some of my at a glance overviews, what would you say the difference is? Or at least the parts you want to see? At a glance I spend a few days taking notes on my first impressions / strategies for the nation. A more prepared version of what I would do if I were to play the nation at that moment. This here is quite literally a live version of that. No brainstorming, no light testing. First impressions and GO.
It's been my experience that a lot of the commanders in this mod are intended to fight alongside their troops, particularly the Chaos and Greenskin guys.
I'd say "brittle" rather than "flimsy" for troops with low HP but decent Prot (for their type) Thematically the Rangers ought to be very killy but like you I'm not convinced they have that strongly enough to be worth buying. "Trading well" (if they even do so) isn't nearly as good as "low attrition". I hope you'll buy some anyway to try them out -they seem designed to take down high-HP low-Prot targets that ideally aren't too killy themselves ...a rather narrow niche. Love the chariot lion staying as a loose lion.
9:20 The MR and Morale are presumably one of the reasons you are paying such high prices. 9:35 Does the Captain exist purely so you can have one in your starting army? He can ferry troops and build forts but surely by the time you might hire someone exclusively for that you'll have found a cheaper Indy. -ah no, I see you don't start with one of these. 13:00 If the Priestess only had the Healing and the Holy I think I'd still want some. Even with few HP you're going to get some surviving wounded and they are expensive troops so that healing is going to quietly be very valuable. Blessing is obviously great (unless you tanked it). I'd like her even more if she was cheaper without the arcane magic but the magic is still huge value. I do find it a bit weird that the mages are all sacred and the troops aren't but I'm sure that's just my WH lore ignorance 14:00 Crappy armour is something I *want* on my thug chassis. If I'm going to give them better armour anyway I don't want to be paying for chassis armour I'm not using! (great armour is also good of course -it's medium armour that's annoying)
Time for a staunch line of elven spears! I remember checking out some Warhammer mods in dom5 I remember one being super OP and the other having some Bandar syndrome on lots of nations, aka lots of nations with sacred focus with no H3 to bless them which is a tad annoying to play with imo, but Im a scales enjoyer. This doesnt look like the one were Swordmasters were sacred and had 3 attacks with their sword
16:00 This guy should just have been called "Site-searcher of Hoeth". "Refuse to enter communions" nixes the reason I can see to recruit them for battle. I still want more than one to search and they'll do fine when they end up in battle but I can't see buying them for that. They'll also do a useful bit of research at some point but again it's not something you'd ever choose them for. The 1E 1G annoy me a bit -Now I have to go looking for a E2 G2+ N2+ (D2+?) mage to fill the gaps ..or just accept that I'm never going to find those level 2 sites (which annoys me ..well maybe "irritates" is the better word ..."niggles at me"?) EDIT: looks like N/S is a combo we can send out easily
Wait, the loremasters don't do communions? Shit. Also I see them as uber expensive master of the five elements from EA TC. Except with more paths, armor, and fantastic stats.
@@ZanGames Dominions seems to be a game where you need to read *all* the text. It does seem like something that merits an icon but maybe that's harder add in a mod (and doesn't exist in the bade game). The problem with that path spread for me is that you pay a lot but they'll only use one path (occasionally 2) at a time for anything but searching. I'm just going to assume that they are actually good value as searchers because they're so darn convenient and working out the alternatives is far too much bother.

Smol map yeah. Maybe its the stand in for that one empire faction in the actual total war game thats lost over there.

I spent hundreds of hours on the Warhammer mod in Dom 5, it is almost like an own game. Sombre is a master mod maker.
Skaven and Vampiria are the best
The effort he has put in is very much apparent already at the nation selection screen!

I think the map creator's name is meant to be 'Soap Tastes Okay'
That makes too much sense. Night time half asleep Zan was reading "soap-tas-tok".
I will use that phrase next time I am asked if the food is okay!

Cool video, would like to see this kind of overview for other dominion / warhammer nations as well.
Thanks!

I am so exited for this!
I'm usually not a big fan of mods, but this one looks amazing.
Handmaidens are stealthy mage priests with 100 leadership and N+G.
I feel like that has some use for elf shenanigans.
That is fair!
Is it worth a cap only turn, we shall see. I've used cap turns on worse so probably.
That's a hefty map. Definitely begs for MP with all nations from the mod picked ;P
I'm using the simplified baby version. There are two others that get increasingly larger. Maybe future series?

On thug armor: That is a good point I hadn't considered. Good catch.
soap tastes ok (soaptastesok), got a chuckle out of that
14:40 recruitment does not require a lab. You're going to have a LOT of these by the end. Also only 2 rec points.
That is interesting it doesn't require a lab...but its still capital only.
@@ZanGames Had to go see myself, and yea. I wonder why even give them a cool mechanic like this one when they are only recruitable from a cap site.
love this stuff

The powerscale of the mod is a little higher than vanilla for sure. But if everything is stronger than thats okay!
I hope one day Sombre gets time to do a themed indies mod. Are you guys playing with the PD mod assuming it's ready yet?
He does appear to be using the poptype mod (which is included in the workshop download)

Nuln! Why are you over there!
"Nuln of your business!"
the chaos factions are super strong and skaven can't expand properly
I see a lot of chatter about how strong the Khorne Chaos Knights are. Hopefully the ai recruits them.
Why are you not doing holy avenger on your thugs? Not the best thug buff, but sure better than nothing...
In the two tests I did before I was running it, and its not the greatest versus the independents.
Versus actual factions with real units for sure.
Wagh?
*Thwok*
Stoopid humey. WAAAARRRRGH!
With no water provinces on the map, saling will be useless to you...
unfortunately. Wont stop me from pointing it out however!
Sombre made an amazing job, no idea how it works in dom6 tho ^^ In dom5 I expanded with the anointed of azuryan as the high elves 🫡
Oh heck yeah! A lot of people said I was crazy when I said that these guys looked strong!
