I was on the fence about preordering this. I wall mount Fire 10s with Action Tiles and Fully Kiosk. Even though Action Tiles hasn't been updated in forever, I still prefer as my smart home dashboard. When Amazon gets all the bugs worked out, I'm sure you'll let us all know. Thanks Reed!
I am with you Reed! Amazon really needs to give the shows a GUI overhaul. My wife and I are hoping to use this much like how we use the 7 inch tablet, as a dashboard. And thank you for uploading this, I been waiting for either you or Paul to make one and you did well.
I love our new show 15. I was looking for something more user friendly to set up a dashboard that included weather, the family calendar, and device UI. I tried fully kiosk but don’t have smart things or hubitat at this time. I only wish the widgets can be resized. Would be great to have a device dashboard like the fire. Let’s hope for an update in the near future!!
With every Amazon display I own, I will the dashboard feature was more robust and user friendly. I think this is something Google excels at. Additionally, Amazon’s show devices, especially the bigger screens, seem to be a bit more clunky/buggy, which is unfortunate for high end users who could really take advantage of those products.
I saved my Home Assistant as a favorite in the Silk browser and use Alexa to call it up when I need it. Home Assistant dashboard will stay active for about five or six hours in Silk if you don't use another skill that uses Silk browser like TH-cam.
sadly this is what i expected...I was hoping for a more customizable smart home dashboarding option(even more improvement on device dashboard on the fire tablets), but looks like we will have to wait. This is probably better for the "family" but not those who were hoping to have all the beautiful esthetics paired with detailed dashboard. Thanks for your review, always look forward to your content!
I really like how the Echo Show 15 looks with the widgits. When the widgits come to the other Echo Shows in an update next year they won't look as good as they do on the Show 15.
I honestly can't believe that smart displays arent moving to a bigger size trend or anything. i feel like bigger size smart displays would sell much more and just judging on your video they would probably do really well in homes. google has gotta make a nest hub max+ or something, it would be dope and I'm willing to bet next generation smart displays will be bigger
For sure, that's probably where the trend is headed! Nest Hub Max+ has a good ring to it... if Google ever releases that, you should take all the credit.
After using the Echo Show 15 for a few days, I wish there was a greater focus on it being a frame. The speed it rotates through images is ridiculous. I don’t understand why I can’t set the speed at like 5 minutes (or even longer). I also wish I could close the “drawer” with the widgets to make the image full screen and then tap to bring the widgets back. Or maybe have the device default to an art/photo screen saver if the camera doesn’t sense anyone nearby. Thinking of mounting vertically so the art images are fully visible when on the dashboard (since most are landscape orientation).
Great review! I have just purchased an Echo show 15 and placed it in the Kitchen as you have. My difference is that I mounted it direct to my old VESA mount (100mm) it fits perfect and can be angled or tilted to suit different viewing angles. I have got to say "I love it" and thanks for the review
Good point about the smart home dashboard. I would like that a lot more too. We bought one because our kids are ALWAYS asking about what's on the calendar, and this displays the calendar items ALL THE TIME. I love the wall mount option too. I've always wanted that.
Just a fyi. You can setup home assistant to show up on silk. There is a way to tell alexa to open home assistant (opens silk and goes to home assistant dash).
Can someone answer me TWO very simple questions: When in photo mode - does the photo mode stay on indefinietly and does it have stupid watermark text in the corner of the photo mode? My stupid Echo show 5 has photo mode but always has water marks saying - "ask Alexa - when was this photo taken" etc.) I have unticked every single option in the settings menus to turn off recommendations to no avail. The whole reason I want to buy an echo show 15 is to use it as a frame 1st and smart device 2nd... i dont want widgets popping up or stupid "recommendations" that effectively ruin the photo frame experience. Thanks!
Great video as always ✌️. One thing I will say though is that I think that it’s a bit stingy of Amazon not to include a stand especially for that one. I also think that the price they charge for the accessories and stands is too much and yes $30 is too much for that stand.
Thanks! The stand is interesting because what if they included it and just charged $280 for everything. Maybe they were trying to keep the cost down for those who just wanted to mount it on the wall. Who knows.
I bought mine on the release day, but it took Amazon a whopping 9 days for them to deliver it. I am the only user so I don't use the visual id and I keep the camera shutter closed. The Echo 15 takes duty in my great-room, demoting my Echo 8 to the bedroom. I really wish the Echo 15 was thinner, but over-all it looks fine, not great, but fine. Out of the box I was surprised the sound was as good as it was, but to improve the sound I added a pair of Audioengine A2+ speakers in racing red to pair with the Echo 15 using bluetooth. I wish Alexa was a lot smarter, but I guess we are just not there yet. I'll try to be patient.
Random question - looking for rgbw smart spotlights for my bedroom to control with Alexa. Need to be bright and decent quality but not too expensive. Any recommendations?
Reed, you should find a VESA mount for it so you can attach under cabinet to keep you counter top clean & clear. And also please mute out your wake word like you did before. Thanks.
Very nice review! Totally agree that I’ll wait to buy till some of the better widgets are available, especially the a smart home dashboard that looks at least as good as the one available on the Fire tablet.
Two years ago I bought my first Amazon Echo with a screen... Echo Show 5.... NEVER AGAIN! It displays ads every now and again and you can not remove the 'card' for that... It's an ad machine... Look at all the people trying to remove ads and 'Alexa for your day' ads.... It made good friends with my trash can. Good luck if you buy this....
I totally agree with changing the smart home dash board to match the tablet and the phone set up, it would be annoying having to scroll all the way down to what your looking for
I have no doubt they'll update the software later on since the product is brand new. I hope amazon dose not get too carried away and make more echo shows with much bigger screens unless they wanna intergrate there fire tv's and fire tv stick with echo show functionality.
Hey man, new subscriber here! Great video! So I read that the Echo Show 15 doesn’t support Zigbee. A little confused on that. How do I know which devices are still able to work with Alexa and which are using the Zigbee protocol? For example, if I choose to use Ring cameras and the alarm system, smart Yale locks, Ecobee thermostats and smart lighting? Am I still able to have Alexa lock doors, change temperature, activate the alarm, etc? Or do those use the Zigbee protocol and I’m forced to get the Echo Show 10?

if only it would have a sonos app id use it as a smarthome controller. Im at odds right now and already bought the SHOW15 and my intention was to use it as the the controller wall mounted but im now leaning towards the ipad. this video i learned that RING popping up automatically was a plus making my decision more difficult but still thinking im going with the ipad and giving this to the wife for the kitchen

It's worth it for it's price. The art/frame idea is great. I wish it can be easily be removed in wall by just unlocking something so we have a choice if we want to watch something on the table or display the screen somewhere if not in use as a frame. The thing I don't like about it is the camera, they said it's only 5mp. Hope they make it like an iPhone latest front cam quality. And I wish they have an all black frame. Color choices. + I wish they update the frame mode display, I want 1 minute or more before the pics changes I'll just wait for the next gen. ❤

I wanted to get one but can’t get Phillips Hue set up in the Alexa app. It doesn’t work. So, I’ll be sticking with the Hub Max for now.
