I'd really like to see an indepth video on the Sofa Baton. I've been looking for something to replace the Logitech Harmony stuff and I just haven't found much that can touch it.
Wow I feel special in that I had something before Reed did! :) I picked up a couple of the ThirdReality night lights a little while ago, and I think they're a great addition to a HomeAssistant setup. At night time, tying them in with the bed presence sensors built into our bed (SleepNumber) I can have these kick on if we get out of bed while it's overnight and dark to light the way. During the daytime, I use them as a visual indicator of activity over at my elderly mother's home through a slightly more sophisticated HA -> HA webhook setup. If Mom is up and moving around, the light in our house goes on green so that we can see that she's active and not laying in bed. Added bonus - as you said, they're a Zigbee repeater so it can help your mesh network too. All in all, price/value ratio is solid on that one.
The problem with the Roborock vacuum is it uses dust bags. I have the Roborock S7+ with a dust bin that is bag less. I would upgrade but do not want the extra maintenance to change dust bags and search online to buy
Lutron Caseta Pico remotes are amazing. Sure its another hub, but combined with HA they are amazing. Being able to mount a remote into an existing gang box is what I had been missing for years. No more losing a remote, or having some extra random wall mount on the wall. The new hue remotes are very fast compared to the early models, but the battery life is pretty bad, can't comment on the Pico Remotes yet, but pretty sure they are advertised to last pretty long.
Have you heard about the new update for the Aqara U300? It allows you to change the auto lock timing or completely disable it. It's a beta update though. I updated mines and disabled auto lock altogether. Now all my automations run through Home Assistant. I created new auto lock timers and schedules for them that I can enable and disable when I want.
If me or my wife farts bad enough, I have automation via methane and sound recognition to flash all LIFX lights red for 5 secs. as a warning, the blower fan turns on for 5 minutes to circulate air. More of a novelty.
I’m from STL, and there’s a local business owner that makes Posie Pots. She’s a Boeing engineer, and figured out how to make plant pots that keep excess water for when the plants need it. Get Aly one for Christmas!
Hey Reed, great video! I have the TrampleTek Blue mats, and they ARE amazing and great customer service! Out of curiosity, why do you need RATGDO and the Meross device? I have the RATGDO and love it.
hello Reed, I have watched your videos for a long time. From your videos, your Home Automation choice is HomeAssistant. I have been unable to get HomeAssistant to work well for me, especially the automation. But I need some help with the EP32 and the Msr-2, a fantastic device. the power interface options that they offer are really great. Can you direct me to a GREAT Tutorial on all aspects of HomeAssistant? I'm running out of brain. I am also considering the Hubitat but that is for a different discussion.
It's honestly infuriating how good the Hue motion sensora are. I got a couple of them early on in my home automation adventure, and even now that I'm on Home Assistant and using devices from dozens of brands, the Hue motion sensors have been more reliable than anything. I wish they were cheaper!
There is also the very tiny ones I show in the video that have a case built on that are also very inexpensive shop.m5stack.com/products/atom-lite-esp32-development-kit
LASER? For the past hour-and-a-half i've been trying to find this laser you have on your ceiling in your garage, but no luck. What brand and/or model is it, so I have something I can search for? Thanks! I did find a ton of lasers of course, but they are all battery powered, which makes it difficult to use in home automation.
@@SmartHomeSolver Thanks! Probably gonna try to find for Switzerland! It sucks that amazon doesnt have a feature where you can get the same product on different country store!
1:07 is that soil moisture sensor capacitive? if so, that's good. conductive sensors have a corrosion problem. about leaving that tablet that's plugged in all the time: i have the chargers for my tablet and phone on smartplugs, controlled by automations that switch on at 50% and stop charging at 90%. except once a month they charge to 100%. thee only problem is that some of my smartplugs sometimes switch off when they should be on, and i can't find out why :-(
Kind of surprised you use the old fashioned (but well-working) system of a ball that hits your front window on your car, instead of having something smarthome, such as a light or something. But it may not be accurate enough?
But for those shouldn’t there be like something happening and then it goes off like maybe like a 10 second delay or just beeps and then if you don’t cancel the alarm within that time it’ll go off 2:38
I have had hue bulbs for years. I dont think it has worked perfectly once. They are disconnected more than they are connected. So when you said "not the best bang for your buck" what would be? because Hue is trash, anything would be better, but all i can find that is cheaper is Wifi bulbs and i dont need 52 new devices on my Wifi to jam it up even more.
Sorry, that plant sensor is ridiculous. I mean you can use it for 1 plant. But surely you don't want to hook up 20 plants in your home with a power cable.
This is just a bunch of ads. I actually believed you thought these were good products until loved your bird feeder that has never fed a bird. I had thought this was a good channel but I guess you will just shill whoever pays you.
This is something that TH-cam has enabled by default for creators. It is completely possible that Reed is not even aware this feature is on, or functions in a way that detracts from the experience.
If the focus of this video was health or safety, I’d more readily agree with a blanket statement like this. It’s not that, but it is loaded with a ton of great information for someone who wants to learn. Even if the automated translations are sketchy, they are likely good enough to make the ideas accessible to those who don’t speak the same language as the creators. Communicating beyond the confines of our own language with minimal additional effort is HUGE for humanity as a whole, and I don’t think it’s something we should discourage. Yes, where practical, I agree its substantially better to have this done by a human translator. Unfortunately, this is unquestionably prohibitively expensive for most creators, especially in niche verticals where technical (or otherwise specialized) language is crucial to the dialog.
No translation for me. Either your TH-cam settings are screwed or TH-cam has done something weird. Doubt it’s anything the creator has done or is even aware of.
You know, you feature so many things, BUT YOU YOU LEAVE SO MANY GOOGLE ITEMS OUT! Like that Sonos speaker, you don't give an alternate. When I did an compatibility search, it says the Sonos DOESN'T work with Android. Just that one, ONLY for Alexa. I WILL NEVER USE ALEXA OR APPLE SHIT! NOT EVER! I only ever buy Samsung phones, tablets, and such. And I only have one Google home assistant home hub. I am home-bound disabled and only have 2 lights and my nest smart enabled. Would like more, but I can only do some much. I live in an apartment and my landlord lets me do as much as I can without MAJOR changes. But you always feature EVERYTHING else! I have had so many TBI's, comprehension and memory just sucks!
I guess this channel just isn't for you. If you don't like home assistant then don't watch the content. I have read your other comments on this channel and they read like a child that is upset when someone enjoys chocolate and they don't. Don't yuck someone else's yum, and if you don't like it, go somewhere else. No need for the negativity.

You had me at the universal remote. Will it work with cable box? (For aging parents)

No creator should ever use automated translation for their videos. Please have some trust in your audience. This is horrible!
