Can You Keep the CURSED Ring of Hircine?🐺 S K Y R I M

The Ring of Hircine can be obtained from a prisoner in Falkreath Jail in Skyrim. The cursed ring cannot be unequipped, and causes the wearer to randomly become a Werewolf!
This curse can easily be lifted by completing the quest "Ill Met by Moonlight", but what happens if you play through the game without lifting the curse?
At some point I was able to unequip the ring without lifting the curse, I think it was after the Thalmor Embassy quest, but it remained stuck in my inventory as it is a quest item.

Yes, it happens often after fast traveling, but it can happen anytime.
