Although Azura was involved, she decided to involve herself more with the emerging mer races, specifically the Dunmer. This left the dying form of Nirni to drain of all remaining life, until Kynareth and Hircine interrupted. Iffir, the God that killed Nirni had created much of the wildlife that was and remains part of Nirni, or Nirn. With his corruption, so to were his creations, so, Hircine and Kynareth siphoned away all of his power, using some of it to stabilize the existence of Nirn, while maintaining both the savage and tranquil sides of nature. @Alexandru Guzzonato There's almost no lore about Jyggalag, the majority of these videos and what we can say for certain about him is near nonexistant, but I'd say he had to be doing some pretty serious stuff to have all the other Princes co-operate on something. The big question that comes up is how exactly he expanded his territory, we have nearly no information about that. My take is that he invaded and subjugated other realms (some Princes have multiple smaller realms like Sanguine and others are just ripe for the picking) which pushed them to act as he would in time subsume all. If they did it on Nirn, why not to each other in Oblivion? What happened during the Oblivion Crisis could realistically occur between rival Daedric Planes. The nature of his Daedra also leads me to believe they are more than strange, as they seem to be "blank" or washed out husks with no individual will or direction. We have a pretty clear picture of Divine nature in that Daedric Princes and Gods can't really "Die" in the typical sense, but they can be warped into something completely different (Trinimac into Malacath). It stands to reason that the Princes were scared of being turned, losing themselves and falling under the heel of ultimate order (a concept tied with Anu) much like his blank knights. Lastly, I'd call into question his own statements, which form the basis of almost all of the concrete lore surrounding him. His own narrative and perspective paints him as a relatively benign victim of jealous rivals, but how accurate is that really? Even the kindest and most passive of Princes do some messed up shit, somehow I doubt he'd be an exception.

Hircine, to me, is fascinating, as his whole deal seems to be the duality of man and beast, seen most literally through his Lycanthropes, but also his appearance, being an amalgamation of a Man and Deer, damn I love Hircine!

Hircine would be the only deadra lord besides nocturnal that I'd serve freely and probably malacath.
Daniel Mack eh, try walking into a pack of wolves at night, they will tear you apart, they usually don't attack unless they have numbers, regardless, not a lot of people travel in forests at night, but it's not uncommon to get attacked by wolves, Mountain lions are more aggressive, true.
That's not necessarily true it depends on the Range as well for example wolves in Europe specifically northern Europe are far more aggressive and have attacked and killed many people even eaten many people then again they're all so far larger than most North American Wolves however there are species of wolves in America that are responsible for several human deaths such as the Yukon wolf or the Mackenzie Valley wolf
We Are Venom Wolves have a respect system. If you are viewed as weak by wolves, you will be attacked. However, for every attack story, there is another story of men living peacefully side by side with wolves.
In Europe prior to effectively wiping out all predators and wild spaces European wolves and lions did hunt humans regularly. We didn't become the undisputed apex predator of the planet until rifling was commonplace on our firearms in the 19th century.
"Hircine the FAIREST" I thought you meant most attractive and I clicked on the video based on that... My opinion still stands that he is the hottest, but he is also the fairest.
Poorly Made Bot but Hagravens are all about the magics within the souls of beasts and man and such. Whereas the Sprigins are just the blind guardians of the forests. Druids vs Ecofanatics
Way I see is that Hircine is more about the exploitation of nature rather than being a part of it. Periryte is the Daedric prince of the natural order which would probably go better with Kyne than Hircine's realm. Hircine is all about the thrill of the hunt, rather than the necessity of hunting.
Hircine reminds me of a less benevolent version of LOTR's Orome. Orome, also known as the hunter, the rider, and the Lord of Forest, is among the Valar. Hircine and Orome share a very similar sphere of influence, but Orome works to aid those that dwell in his sphere, which is inherently dangerous to mortals.
@@thewolfpaladin1858 never said he was either, just saying Orome is inherently good, while Hircine is more bound by self-interest and the interest of his sphere, hence "less benevolent"
- Hears Skyrim intro. - Me: "Hey, you! You were trying to cross the border right? Walked right into that Imperial ambush, same as us, and that thief over there!...
Damn you stormcloaks, everything was fine until you came along, empire was nice and lazy. If they hadn't been looking for you, I could've stolen that horse and been halfway to hammerfell
Hircine is very similar to the Celtic god Cernunnos a humanoid deer a wild god the hunter and protector of the wild things. To disrespect his domain and creatures is to know nature's wrath. The arrogant is who he hunts both man fairy and gods. The wild hunt is Cernunnos day you will hunt or become a beast to hunt. Like I said very very similar I liked the video.
It’s possible that many of the daedric princes are based on mythical beings. Like you said it’s a pretty uncanny resemblance between Hiricine and Cernunnos. Perhaps the other princes have real life counterparts as well?
I worship Cernunnos because he represents the values I admire highly. The duality of animal and man. The beast and tamed. The understanding and respect to the natural world. It's where we all come from and we shouldn't forget it.
Queen from Snow White: "Mirror, mirror on the wall...who's the fairest one of all?" Mirror: "Hircine". Queen: "..wh..what?" Mirror: "Daedric Prince of the Hunt" Queen: "No I meant in terms of looks and... Mirror: "By the way, he chose you as the target of this era's Blood Moon hunt, so good luck with that." *werewolves howling in the distance Queen: "Shit..."
Hircine: That foolish Sheogorath dares to chellange me? I am gonna send my best warecreature to fight in this battle! Sheogorath: Imma send a bird Hircine: You wot mate?
Hircine is base on Cernunnos The wild god of Celtic. Hircine worn or has a deer skull for a hat or head. Cernunnos Are call the horned god for a reason. Hail ancient pantheons
I can't wait to see all the awesome Daedric quest we will do in The Elder Scrolls 6. I just hope I'll live to see the game come out, it feels like we are waiting an eternity for that game. Still though I don't want them to rush out the game and have it turn out to be just a copied and pasted version of Skyrim but in another province.
Wampa Stompa1996 I honestly think Bethesda lost its touch with writing decent or intriguing quest. I blame time constraints and suits but their could be fault in Bethesda too.
It would be cool but its elder scrolls where everyone minus beggars own a house. Plus i bet people would complain if people look almost the exact same.
As someone who loves werewolves in general and is fascinated by the werecreatures of Tamriel, I adore Hircine. He is the only god my Dragonborn worships.
A dude who lets me grow my hair out, lets me eat as much as I want, who lets me just be left alone in my shack to eat some yummy rabbits, fish and bears. Also rewards being a creative hunter as well. Also, not inherently evil and just seems like a chill dude.
The year is 2056. The Elder Scrolls VI just released. Me (a man in his 80s) is having the time of my life running around the mountains and tundra of High Rock. Stops at the edge of a huge forest thinking it must just be like any other forest in the game. Enters. All seems calm. Suddenly the light begins to fade as I step deeper. The sky has turned red. - Quest Started: Night of the hunt. - A howl is heard in the distance.
Hircine is such a chad. Someone escaped his hunting grounds and he literally rewarded them for it. Man just amused, If it was molag ball he would torture you for eternity because of it
Hircine is absolutely my favourite daedric prince. I love hunting, i love good sportsmanship, i love werewolves. If i lived in tes universe i would probably be his worshipper, haha. He's such a nice guy.
I know how to kill Sheggorath's bird. The Daedroth lost because Daedroths have no intelligence, just mindless rage beings. A human werewolf could've taken the bird. Now the catch here is that I as my human werewolf character still couldn't kill it with tooth and claw either. You see, it's not a trial by combat, nor is it a hunt. Sheggorath loves puzzles that toy with the mind of his enemies, and that's what the bird is. My strategy is a grueling and unpleasant process, just how Sheggorath would want it, but it's the only way I can see to guarantee victory. Gorge yourself before the fight, and when the bird lands on your nose, wait. lie down immobile and wait. a human being starves to death in 25- 35 days. A bird however, (at least the class of bird described in the lore, not large birds of prey) starves to death in a mere 2 to 3. You'll have to starve yourself for 3 days, but in the end victory is yours.
Careful with the glue though, if it cures early that's a nightmare to get out of your hair. If it does work though just swat the bird like a mosquito no need for starvation. I was also thinking you could lie still like a scarecrow, but with your jaws open. I've seen people catch birds by scarecrow posing before, but if it happens to land in your mouth as a werewolf, yomp.
skelitonking117 I was JUST thinking this sounded like cernunnos. I’m non-denominational pagan myself, and cernunnos was really present in the back of my head as I watched this.
TheWolfPaladin 1 Malacath’s sphere is about keeping your word and pariahs. He also got a code. He create a weapon that is so powerful against Daedra lore wise, that it was only in Morrowind. Malacath doesn’t want to destroy or take over the world. He is the least evil of House Of Troubles.
He was actually *happy* that you beat him. A Daedric prince got his ass handed to him by a mortal, and not only wasn't pissed off or butthurt, but was actually gracious to and proud of that mortal. Hircine is worthy of Worship, despite, or perhaps because, he never asks for it.
Really hope you read this, but since nothing is confirmed for es6 such as it's location, I think there was another hint in skyrim telling you where it is... ya know when the redguards show up looking for that girl? Well they want to take her back to hammerfell, where she committed treason selling out a city to the dominion. There's a lot of small tid bits of info that I feel are there actually about the next game. One being hammerfell and the other where he talks that about the resistance against the dominion is alive and strong in hammerfell. Now we have almost the same encounter and hint on fallout 3 about fallout 4s location and plot. You get contacted by the institute, to return a synth to him so he can take it back to the commonwealth, and then the railroad wants you to help him escape from him. This is basically half of the main plot in fallout 4. Now obviously this is speculation since nothing is confirmed, but I truly believe this was hinted for a reason. 90% after the teaser we got shows hammerfell, I just believe this is the icing on the cake. Like if you read this entire comment.
A great insight into my favourite daedric prince, not to mention a lot of interesting and relevant ideas that correlate with one another - icing on the cake being Drew commentating and genuinely seems to know what he’s talking about, I love it thank you!!
I was wandering if you can make a video about the likelihood of the dragonborn not taking any side in the civil war and after the events of the main story killing Paarthurnax and joining the blades restoring it to it's former glory in the shadows to someday build a new empire, ruled by his blood line with the long lost (found) amulets of kings and how this would create a great setting for Elder Scrolls 6 with you playing as one of dragonborn's blood kin?
Jyggalag, of course, the prince of Order was the strongest Daedric Lord . The others had feared his power and basically broke him . He states this in Oblivion. I know the other stated it but eh stating it again.
Tying in-game lore into real-world mythology brings this video to a whole new level. Not only do I like Hircine even better now, but I also learned about cultures besides my own! Phenomenal work!
I love your voice and the way you talk about topics... It's clear that you know what you are talking about and you make it twice as interesting as it already is
ESO does a good job of vilifying Hircine, which I personally believe is the most honest depiction of him: a complete douchebag who respects nothing else but his hunt. I even have to disagree with his realm being nice. If you aren't 1000% on-board with Hircine's hunt, then being stuck in the hunting grounds for eternity would suck. No love, no art, no relaxation, just hunting. I would much prefer the sands behind the stars, Llesw'er. Reconvening with loved ones, infinite sweets that never give you toothache or make you fat, and an on-going party that you can go to or come from at will.
Odin's weapon is the spear Gungnir though. I'd say it serves little purpose to try to escape the reach of a magical spear capable of piercing anything and never missing its mark. =p
This video is so interest, specifically because in every Elder Scrolls game I've played, my roleplay for my character, she's usually linked to Hircine (except my ESO playthrough, then she's tied to Vaermina and Hircine is her enemy due to story plots in the roleplay)
Daedra are never really going to be truly "good". But if they can be trusted and depended on, that's more than enough. Which is why Hircine and Malacath are the closest to being good Daedra. They don't betray, they don't lie, they don't dishonor. That's the best you can ask for from a Daedra
Not that it matters even in-universe, since the Daedra choose their avatars and all, but it always kind of irks me that I can never tell if Hircine's avatar is supposed to be a man with a deer's skull for a head or a man wearing a deer's skull as a mask.
Hircine is probably my second favorite Deadra, just for inventing werewolves. Speaking of which, my first fave, Boethiah, is not above underhanded murder as you claim. Sure he she enjoys single combat, but so long as one grows strong as another dies, Boethiah is pleased. Whether that be through a noble sword, poisonous dagger, silver tongue, magical spell or far arrow. That's why she sends you to HUNT DOWN and ASSASSINATE her former champion. Her realms of influence are, after all, "deceit, conspiracy, secret plots of murder, assassination, treason, and unlawful overthrow of authority"
My family name is Hern, was nice to hear you talk about our family name in relation to Hern the Hunter- I've always known it had something to do with the wild hunt and faerie, I've always liked Hircine because of this.
I wouldn't, seems painful and not really useful (unless you want to go on killing sprees), you also become the eternal servant of Hircine. However if I didn't have a choice then I guess I could live with it.
I have an Aspect of Hircine character that I love playing. Bow of the Stag Prince, Savior's Hide, Ring of Hircine and a dragonbone dagger. Spend most my days hunting. I have a dragonbone sword too but thats for when hunting is out of the question
Hircine has 2 amulets not just the spear, ring and hide. He has 5 daedric artifacts possibly more(maybe more than that if you include the rings in solstheim during the 4th era) and those 3 totems you get from the quests from aela. (making it 8 but over 10 if you include the rings) Hunter's amulet of strength and Hunter's amulet of speed obtained in morrowind during the bloodmoon quest.
You said Hircine isn't a trickster, but through the glenmora witches he tricked the companions into becoming lycans, and half of hunting is tricky by its nature. Lay out some food, and a trap and wait for an animal to fall for it.
Because the glemoril witches had used trickery Hircine allow you to hunt them down it may have just taken a lot of Circle members to realize this. becuase Hircine doesnt help them in anyway when you come Teeth and claws Slashing.
By FAR my favorite Deadric Prince, Werewolves are one of my favorite fantasy creatures, he has a cool name and look plus some really neat lore, he’s fucking awesome.
Hey the whole stand your ground part if Hircine DOES work in real life. I was charged at by my old neighbors dog when I was 12. It was a chow mix and I was terrified to say the least. But I just kept repeating in my head "don't move" and screamed bloody murder for help. Luckily they owners were home and the dog cane as soon as it was called. There's truth in stories. Also there was another but I knew the other dog and he just ran around like a goof. 😅
One of the few Daedric princes that I would gladly serve, because he genuinely cares for his hunters.

I honestly would serve Meridia too. She isn't perfect but there are far worse options out there( Molag Bal the rape lord)
Wolves actually very rarely attack humans. Mountain lions are a different story, however.
Brian Smith there’s this thing, which was an AMAZING invention when it was invented. That thing is punctuation, I think you could use it some time.

Way I see is that Hircine is more about the exploitation of nature rather than being a part of it. Periryte is the Daedric prince of the natural order which would probably go better with Kyne than Hircine's realm. Hircine is all about the thrill of the hunt, rather than the necessity of hunting.

Yes I agree. They are both cool. But many Europe country forget his existence.
It’s possible that many of the daedric princes are based on mythical beings. Like you said it’s a pretty uncanny resemblance between Hiricine and Cernunnos. Perhaps the other princes have real life counterparts as well?
So in Celtic history it's more an anti-poaching scarecrow than "everything hunt everything", like it
Tyler McKernan well hermaus mora have influences from lovecraft
I worship Cernunnos because he represents the values I admire highly. The duality of animal and man. The beast and tamed. The understanding and respect to the natural world. It's where we all come from and we shouldn't forget it.

They need to make a game where you can travel to all the Big citys and make it where theres more NPC's that are not important
It would be cool but its elder scrolls where everyone minus beggars own a house. Plus i bet people would complain if people look almost the exact same.
Isn't ES6 coming out in 2019?
i would see it coming out sooner than 2022 for Bethesda has a pattern of announcing games around a year or two year at most release date.
Lord Hircine would probably have punished me for going on a killing spree rather than hunting.

So you going to make a plan for a guy described as being unpredictble to best a creature you have no beforehand knowledge about?
Honestly, I think ignoring the bird or throwing chunks of poisoned bread at the bird would have been for the best.

Hircine, Malacath, and Nocturnal are nither good nor evil the are neutral
TheWolfPaladin 1 Malacath’s sphere is about keeping your word and pariahs. He also got a code. He create a weapon that is so powerful against Daedra lore wise, that it was only in Morrowind. Malacath doesn’t want to destroy or take over the world. He is the least evil of House Of Troubles.
Hircine didn't even get mad when you chose not to kill Sinding. 10/10 would serve in the afterlife
He was actually *happy* that you beat him.

HAIL HIRCINE!
This was simply beautiful. To add an analysis of real folklore just adds to the quality of the experience. Thank you.

Y'know, I'm really glad someone organized all this guy's lore videos by subject in a playlist. This is great content.

What about that new DLC in The Elder Scrolls Online... the one about Hircine!

This was such an enjoyable video. You have a real talent for the narrative.

This video brings me back nostalgia from when I beat the blood moon dlc a few months ago

Hircine has 2 amulets not just the spear, ring and hide. He has 5 daedric artifacts possibly more(maybe more than that if you include the rings in solstheim during the 4th era) and those 3 totems you get from the quests from aela. (making it 8 but over 10 if you include the rings)
Hunter's amulet of strength and Hunter's amulet of speed obtained in morrowind during the bloodmoon quest.
You said Hircine isn't a trickster, but through the glenmora witches he tricked the companions into becoming lycans, and half of hunting is tricky by its nature. Lay out some food, and a trap and wait for an animal to fall for it.
The Glenmoril witches tricked the Companions not Hircine, you even have a quest that kills them. Not gonna say much because Spoilers.
