Another tip is if you're doing an X marks the spot map and cant find the X. Burry a peice of loot and compare the X on your loot map to the voyage map.

You can also give a close in the map. Mouse left button gives you the 1st close, then F usually will do the 2nd close, when you will see even plants, making it easier to point out where the spot is.
Or just understand how to read a map lol.
Don't give up is the biggest thing to know
well when you're getting forcused to death by sweat lords who have no life other than to play that darn game it's kind of hard to not give up because it gets to a point where the frustration outweighs the fun.

@@casketchan Oh I got better alright by powder kegging a Brig parked during the hourglass event so how's that for better? Had him and 2 Galleons and a sloop chasing me and they couldn't catch up to my sloop!!! So courtesy of watching Mr BoxyFresh I got better and got even.

7:55 you can leave a chest of rage unattended on a sloop if you do something that’s quite simple
1. Put 3 buckets from the sea into your boat (the bucket in your ship won’t put enough water in)
2. Get the chest of rage on your ship
3. Go to the bottom of your ship with the chest of rage, go to the very end turn around and put the chest on the single barrel
Im new to the game and jumping immediately into solo slooping, i am actually having a lot of fun, though i avoid pvp as much as possible
Tip 51, Lanterns on your bottom deck shine through the ship from far away.

A really good one I learned recently is to disable screen shaking, it's done in the graphics settings, almost at the bottom, it reeally helps when shooting cannons.

One simple tip for doing treasure hunts, when you get to a stage where the next instruction is n paces in a given direction from a landmark, take out the compass and use the primary fire action to raise it. Your character will walk in very distinct paces to count off rather than guessing at the distance. You can also use this technique to hide your own temporary treasure in less obvious spots and then hide/discard the map from your map table such as if you want to hide a particularly valuable treasure until things cool down or you rank up an emissary flag. Pick an bland grassy patch to bury it then pick out a landmark and use the compass to count off steps and direction. Invert the direction from your landmark when you want to dig it up again.

Note about ship roles, there are only 4 roles on a galleon, on the other ships there are less.
On brigs there is a helm, a main cannon and a flex cannon. Helm will mostly be the bilge aswell as the helm.
On sloop it is simply cannoneer and helm. Helm steers, repairs and buckets. Either player can board occasionally
The rolls exist on every ship. You just have to multitask on the smaller ones

When he said that the bilge oversees managing the sails I laughed because that is how you get sunk.
Also, like what the others have said, the 4 roles aren't necessarily gone when on a sloop or brig. You just have to delegate who is picking up what tasks from the roll they don't have a player for. The brig is trickier to explain to a new player since you cannot divide 4 into 3 evenly. But when it comes to a sloop, you just say that Helm and Bilge are combined, and Main Cannon and Flex are combined.

For kegs on ur ship, if you must carry them(either to sell mega kegs or to use in combat) keeping them on a rowboat works best in my experience, and if you see another ship, drop the rowboat off BEFORE the are close enough to shoot at it(and assuming you have a crew member you can also row away on it to try to catch the other ship, or put it somewhere you'll be able to return to it later), and when parked at an island if you do for some reason with kegs, take the rowboat at least some distance from your ship, so that if someone does show up, even if they see it at very least you have a chance to react and stop them from using said kegs on you
You assume that people can think and breathe at the same time with instructions like that.....

3 tips (Not Mentioned in the vid but important): Cannon the bottom part of a gal to sink it and with the chest of sorrow if your a duo you can grab the chest and sit on the ladder water wont fill your ship and the chest if rage you can flood your ship a little bit then it wont set fire
Tip: If you raised the Reaper's Mark to do the voyages with Reaper's Mark commendation, do the Captain's stash voyages. They don't give nothing but resources, but they only take place on the islands next to where you put the voyage down
looking over to see the map is probably the greatest tip for this game
Tip #12 needs to be corrected. When sailing any ship directly into the wind, it is faster to have your sails flat. While sailing the sloop, it is faster to have your sail flat in every wind direction when you cannot reach full billow.
You can change the island banners to slimline to see your health when a island banner pops up

Didn’t even know hourglass pvp was a thing before this, I’ve just been loading up and trying to find some ships to fight but I’ve only encountered 2 so far, and died to them both. Does it give you supplies or do you need to stock up beforehand?
If u sink any ship in or out of hourglass u will receive their supplies from floating barrels
Some tips I have learnt after playing for a while:
If you have a cutlass when you're boarding, hold block and then catch ladder, as soon as you come us jump to do a quick dodge, have saved me countless times
If you're getting bored, try rowboat challenge (no ship, only rowboat), galleon challenge where you solo or duo a galleon, island challenge (survive a set amount of time on an island)

Is there any way at all to save my ship or every time I join I need to start over I don’t get why I keep losing loot and my shop when I leave
I know I can only do so much but I play with friends who are super new and so that means they aren’t very good yet. And we keep getting destroyed because I will be steering l,adjusting sails,harpooning, shooting cannons, and boarding. We still win some of the fights because I’m able to anchor them and basically spawn kill the other ship. But any half competent sloop with wreck our galleon because I’m basically captaining a galleon and fighting with just myself sometimes.
Like just today we were doing Athena’s fortune voyages and a sloop pops up and just wrecks us because 2 of the people on the ship were very new to the game I’m talking like lvl 10 gold hoarders , and the only one besides me that has played for awhile lagged out and couldn’t join back in. So all I hear when I’m boarding ships that are chasing us is “why are you running from a sloop you’re in a galleon” like yeah I’m trying to teach these dudes the game I’m not trying make them hate the game because we keep getting sunk by lvl 5 reaper pirate lords for our 1 chest or sorrows.
Don’t get me wrong I love PVP in the game but damn dude it’s so frustrating trying to convince my friends that it won’t always be like this.
@@ethan24572 I get the same feeling with my friends aswell, especially ones that play fps shooter games and think they will have it easy but get destroyed cuz of how hard sea of thieves actually is for new players, it's very different from other games in terms of pvp.

It really is a preference, I've seen controller players be super good, but it takes a lot more effort, if u want to be good fast it's easier on keyboard

Don’t put the explosive barrels on the crows nest because it will destroy your ship really quickly and have sitting there like a sitting duck

No! the best place to keep kegs is on a row boat. Ye can detach it in emergency or to send presents, and are easier to get too

It is true yes. And it’s the only way a sloop can outrun bigger ships. It’s not a big it’s just how it works. There have been experiments on it to show how and why
@@c9ffin yeah i found some videos after i commented it, but i still can't find any explanation of it, so i guess it's just a game design decision. i guess it's a cool trick for players to learn for escaping but it's insanely counter-intuitive and feels like it gives new players a hidden disadvantage
Not sure knowledge is a hidden disadvantage. New players don’t know things experienced players do, they’ll learn in future.

This game is terrible on new players. Every single person wants to pvp, and it's always minimum 2 on 1. If anyone wonders why the playerbase barely grows, that's your answer. Getting ahead takes double time.

tip 16 is wrong DO NOT put the kegs in your crows nest because if they blow up your mast will fall and set your boat on fire, the best place to put kegs in on the bowsprit because it only makes couple holes in the front that are easy to fix and only sets the bow on fire which is easy to put out
I’ve had a keg all but sink me from being on my bowsprit.
Dude somehow managed to snipe it in rough seas and the ENTIRE bow of the ship was on fire and the holes took forever to repair.
By then he had boarded me and was literally laughing as he nailed me with a blunderbuss for the kill & win.
It only took roughly 15 seconds

If you are fighting fairly you are doing it wrong
The role part just isn't true, actual comp crews don't call it boarder and cannoneer. The correct terms are flex and main cannon. The main cannon or flex might be the "boarder" depending on the helm or crew you are playing with.
