Non-Yu-Gi-Oh Player Guesses How Good or Bad Cards Are!

- We asked my friend Jordan to read Yu-Gi-Oh cards for the first time and rate them. He's only ever played the game from the 2-Player Starter Set, so will that be enough to help him tell a good card apart from a bad one? Let's find out!

This was really fun I’d definitely do another round in the future.
you've actually done a fantastic job, the game is convoluted just for the sake of it, sometimes
Great job man!
Jordan the goat 🐐
I liked your detailed thought analysis on why you thought a card was good or bad. Even when wrong you had some very valid points on why you thought it may be the case.
Hope to see it!
When he asked "Who is summoning five monsters right off the bat?" and the immediate pan to Paul's face reminded me of Jim from the Office 😂😂
Lol
Why are we here in this life? Why do we die? What will happen to us after death?!
@@nevergiveup5939Why are we here? Just to suffer
don't tell him just preserve his innocence and fun with the game lol. it all goes downhill from there
@@donnietidwell965Kaz, I’m already an Archfiend….
His takeaway of reading cards already puts him on a better path than the average yugioh player.
Me? Read cards? Never!!
@@GuiItyUniverse Reading? What is that? What even is that?
Rightt i have to read a card like 3 or 4 times just to process it and i have to do it in steps and think about what each effect does
It's better to do and take forever than not read and lose immediately because you didn't read any card on the field @@emobassist
Reading? never heard of her
Jordan seems like a genuinely good and cool dude. We should all welcome him with open arms into the community as he explores and learns from his interest in the game. I think it’d be dope if he became a regular on the channel and we got to watch him become more familiar with the game on his journey rising through the ranks of yugioh and maybe be able to duel Trell one day.
“Who summoning 5 monsters off the bat?” Kash and Lab players started sweating with that one
What lab summons 3 monsters at most maybe only 2
@@ONIGIRIKINGU nah lab plays into nib alot of the time
@@phoenix5095 in what world? I've literally never seen a lab player summon more than 4 times in a turn. Of course you _can_, but I have a hard time imagining a situation where that's optimal.
@@hannessteffenhagen61 theres a bunch of lines where u can summon more than 5 times especially since lab players are trying to end on little knight plus their normal set up
@@hannessteffenhagen61 currently in MD I play Lab + Unchain, it summons more than 5 times (you only need 2 unchain cards in main deck, so it mostly lab deck)
Lab + Unchain covers Lab weaknesses where if you got ash big welcome, you end in nothing
but with a new card Butler
if you get Ash, the butler will summon herself, now you will have 2 fiends on the field and do the Unchain line which does more than 5 summon
His card analysis is actually pretty good, he was just lacking context of the current format.
Like, he got the pros and cons of most of the cards almost immediately. He's definitely going to be a good player if he learns the game properly.
*So maybe the Yu-Gi-Oh 2 Player Starter Set wasn't enough to help our friend Jordan tell good and bad Yu-Gi-Oh cards apart... But it's fine, because we're going to try to teach him with Master Duel next!*

Jordan is very smart. I hope to see him in future videos. Reminds me of when I was a kid learning the game.
Idea for a video. The pot of greed duel. Each duelist makes a deck and has 3 copies of pot of greed in it. A third member of the team makes a pile of cards from outside of both decks and puts it in y'all's life size pot of greed. When the duelists activate pot of greed card, they draw from the extra pile that's in the pot of greed pile of cards instead of from their decks.
Oh lmao that sounds *amazing*
I once saw a Reddit post that explained pot of desires perfectly.
It was someone asking why banishing the top 10 face down could be considered worth it.
Someone replied with something along the lines of “most competitive players would pull the plug on their grandparent if it meant getting a +1, banishing the top 10 face down is nothing!” Sure I wouldn’t run it in 90% of my decks because they’re anime based full of 1 of’s for a fun time. But I see the extreme usefulness the card brings. Even if it gets ash’d you’ve still demolished a bunch of things in the way. Maybe had to sacrifice 2-6 good cards to do so. But there’s still 20+ in the deck getting you to where you need to be.
Not going to lie... This dude belongs in a wrestling ring. He's absolutely ripped!
😂😂😂thanks man
Damn when did Paul get so buff😱
You didnt know he was working out with Yugi after the original series ended? Ya boy been hitting the gym
I would love to see Jordan more frequently. A fresh perspective can be very beneficial.
Love the variety of content you guys are putting out. One quick note, definitely add subtitles for when someone off camera or not mic is speaking 😂
But I am loving the content guys, keep it up! Maybe one day I will pick up a deck and play again.
Watching this is so funny it’s like watching a person from 2005 time traveled into the future
Finally great to see Team APS do one of these videos
I still remember how satisfying the first time I hit a whole board with evenly matched.
The deep sigh after the Kaiju read was my exact feeling jumping back into Yu-Gi-Oh with Master Duel lmfao
3:39 is sooooooo funny
Yeah, I actually lol’d 😂
That dude its really fit man i must train more than play with silly cards 😂
Your talking all kinds of crazy, what could be more important than a children's card game.
@Citizen_Nappa23 Precisely.
Bc, as we all know, it's playing children's card games that grant the highest amounts of physical strength in the known world.
We know this bc of the fact that, despite on the surface being seemingly a stuck-up, dweeby, tech-lord yuppy, Seto Kaiba's somehow got them hands in the anime. He regularly, and single-handedly, takes out entire swaths of various personal security goons with minimal effort. Even though it's made VERY apparent that he skips leg days AND shoulder days at the gym (don't let his astoundingly large shoulder pads fool you, he's a bean pole head-to-toe).
But, bc of the sheer MIGHT bestowed upon him by being a children's card game innovator and mogul, he can still judo toss and thai kick men roughly 2.5x his weight and send them flying.
A newcomer seeing Evenly Matched and saying its bad made me feel so good. No more evenly matched. No more dark ruler. A game is meant to be played, these cards are the antithesis of game design!
6:26 HE DOESN'T KNOW!
One of the funny things is
Blue eyes is only still used because it’s support
I liked my own comment
@Rim_ru I liked your comment as well
5:00 So, interesting thing, this actually IS how the first iteration of the Japanese/OCG rules worked, along with some other weirdness. Still better than some of the bizarre formats that would follow shortly after though, like the riot-inducing Exodia introduction
"Read and know your cards"
Average Yugioh Player: What's a "read"? Is that some new card or something?
"read?"
Quick play spell
"When this card activates; cover all text on the cards you play and are on your side of the field for this turn"
No one would use this card...
I gotta say Id love to see more of this "Staple or Stinker" style video with more of your friends who arent much into Yu-Gi-Oh.
Mom, Can we have Infinite Impermanence?
No, we have it at home.
The Infinite Impermanence at home, is Fuse Line XD
Jordan is cool! Hope to see him in more videos, it would be fun to watch him get good at the game.
“I’m gonna be on a TH-cam video of 500k subscribers? Imma put on my best tank top/beater” - This guy probably.
It's always cool to see people who don't play Yu-Gi-Oh react to cards, especially if you're like me and got really into competitive Yu-Gi-Oh as a young adult.
Def like this series I always like when you bring people who don't know yugioh or know og yugioh and ask their opinion like the foot ball player and that your one friend you had on a few years back
We need to add him to a skit some time if he is able like the master duelest training his apprentice thing
Or a skit on the 5 stages of learning modern yugioh or just something
Man is ripped as Exodia.
Side note on Crossout designator, The smaller the main engine in your deck the more potent the card, if your main engine is like 14 (which basically is 4 3offs and a random garnet or 2) cards that leaves 26 slots for non engine fill those with whatever handtraps you need/want and top if off with 3 crossout and 3 tactics and you'll probably play through any disruption out there relatively unpunished (that being said, your deck's ceiling might suffer...)
This is why I think Tenpai HAS to be good.
Jordan seems so cool! Would love to see more of him :)
Id like to see the journey of Jordan learning Yu-Gi-Oh and playing it. That be a good series
I am well versed in current Yugioh, but agree that Pot of Desires is too much risk for too little reward. Face down banished cards are the most difficult cards to recover making this a relatively steep cost.
tbh, I feel if he had a better understanding of the modern game, he'd of done even better at determining card worth
his analyzing and critical thought of the cards was already quite solid, but just seemed to focus much more heavily with older slower paced games in mind
dinomorphia players when activating solemn judgement "I see this as a win win"
Dawg, when you least expect it, you'd be learning to make some crazy plays if they keep introducing you to the cards like this. Because cards like Nibiru are still being played to this day. Some people still dare to go _full rogue_ and kick meta butts with Blue Eyes decks, even though Blue Eyes White Dragon isn't exactly the strongest card in our physical game *(though in the anime he's this badass dragon everyone is afraid of haha)*
At the end of the day, what you have to know ultimately, is that with the perfect hand you can demolish even the strongest opponents. Aaaaaand with a bit of luck too. Because this game is heavily reliant on luck and good deck building, but you probably already noticed.
Maybe hot take: but Crossout designator is such a terrible card. The only way it works is if konami made it so everyone had to play a certain card in their deck to be competitive or stand a chance. Ash blossom is the only "play in every deck card" rn and you don't even have to negate it. You can just play around it, so that makes crossout beyond useless. The only thing that makes crossout good is if Maxx C was in the game lmao.
So Master Duel?
@@commonviewer2488 It is at 1 there lol.
You couldn't be more wrong. All formats have a lot of common staples on main or side deck. If you are playing mirror matches or if you loose hard to some popular staples, this card have no equivalent or better substitute. If you follow the competitive scene you will see this card being used on a lot of formats (like the current one) for both reasons.
@@VictorFC emphasis on "to stand a chance." I'm referring to like a tier 0 card. We don't really get a lot of those. Or a thing that's splashable everywhere like brilliant fusion was back then. I'm not talking about ordinary staples at all.
Funny thing is Solemn Judgement use to be viewed as a bad card when it came out, when LP was something you held on to for dear life.
Now LP is considered a resource to use. If the other player can hit you it is likely game over anyways, so you might as well use LP to keep yourself alive.
Jordan did really good on this in my opinion.
I would love if I had a locals that were mostly casuals and beginners. Playing at either two locals I have near me every one is pretty competitive and most of them have been playing for 8 years+ definitely not friendly to a player returning after 20years like me. Thankfully we have master duel but that doesn’t solve the itch of playing a tcg
I'd say pot of desires is a both card depending on the deck it is being played in... for example if i played it in a Dimension Deck it would be a +8 due to my deck drawing when cards are banished plus i am reliant on my banish zone getting filled up to perform effects but its bad in decks that NEED every card they draw otherwise known as a heart of the cards deck where every card you draw is good and can win you the match.
Armityle is AMAZING! Have you READ Dimension Fusion Destruction?!
I can't tell if Jordan is a nerd, jock or Urkel afficinado to be honest.
Mans gonna be a great player if he learns modern format and rulings. He takes all the necessary info from each card he reads I would love to see him build a deck
Future new team aps member
Hearing an instant "battle phase" by the going second guy will give yugioh players a heart attack🤣
Great man, taking time to analyze why a card would or would not be useful
Hey man, keep up learning the game. We need new people. Don't get too discouraged when things get way more complicated!
Keeping new people out is on Konami and their need to push power creep further.. you see people recommend complex decks to beginners because they're strong decks - not even YGO players know how to introduce someone new to it...
This guy and I were literally in the same boat throughout the whole video… 😅 We literally had the same guesses for every card and every time the guy would say that it’s a Bad Card I’d be like “Oh C’MON!!”
Regardless I think the guy did pretty well considering both him and me both only know the game from the show. So good on us Jordan!!! We did Well!
This was such a cool idea for a video
8:46 He said the F word :/
Jokes aside. Fizzle isn’t a word in YGO lingo. Resolves without applying its effect is the correct wording.
The final fantasy shirt in the other video & now the music. Lol a final fantasy video soon?

"who's summoning 5 times" me, a lot apparently. i genuinely didn't notice this until recently, but i play traptrix and the basic set-up i go to turn one uses exactly 5 summons. it has gotten to the point that i've started to go for making reflesia even when i'd otherwise go for another xyz like time thief, because i have a gut feeling i'm about to be hit by a meteor.
Nibiru is the try out duel gimmick in master duel. Which in my experience is people are like I'm just gonna play a deck where I can get away with 4 summons a turn.
I was winless in that with my swordsoul deck, unsure if I should try to play under or through it. Then after I got wiped by cyber dragons of all things, I finally snapped, threw a pile of those together, and finally got people to scoop.
I had the absolute worst time with that. Winless with swordsoul because I could never tell if I should play through or under it. One time I actually had an anti Nib combo in hand, but I misread my notes and did the wrong thing.
I finally gave up after a loss to cyber dragons, threw a bunch of those together, and finally got the scoops I was looking for.
i just play spright and be wild
I love Alec kibbitzing!
Read your cards? I flip old man says no so I don't have to read and summon turtle to get rid of your monster because it might be a tower, but I ain't reading all that effect to find out. Fun video and hope we see more like this
Can't believe they let Diddy out to help with this video.
Pot of Desires is more played in decks where you have consistent monsters in the deck all at 3 copies and you rely more on your extra deck monsters.
Banishing 10 out of 40 cards in your deck, but drawing 2 cards, that can be an advantage if you can play around from what you lost from banishing.
Also when your search for important cards is terrible anyway. e.g. Gren Maju is a pain to search, so any card has an equal chance of being Gren Maju, and banishing the top 10 gets you closer to the 11th onward.
Buff Paul is awesome!
I'm just kidding, I really enjoyed how they explain the mistakes in such a way that it doesn't make the person feel dumb. The Yugioh community can have issues with how they communicate and I feel Alex and Paul did a great job explaining these cards
You know pot of desires is the G for my Gren Maju deck ;)
For that last card you gotta do what I do. Opponent plays evenly matched to which I say you fool i chain Solemn judgement.
His muscles indicate he barely plays Yu-Gi-Oh
He said he watches the shows
@Team APS: Paul was wrong about Solemn Judgment stopping everything, it cannot stop the activation of monster effect, even if the activation of that monster effect special summoned a monster, because they are special rules to negated the summoned of a special summoned. If a monster effect activation says it special summoned a monster and they are no more information that mean the resolution end when the monster is special succesfully, and when a monster is special summoned succesfully it cannot have its summoned negated, this is also because counter trap always have the word When and they can never be an if on a counter trap card since that mean they are allowed to break their own rules that they can never break. If the monster effect that special summoned a monster as this added text "immediatley after this effect resolve special summoned the monster" This mean the resolution end before the special summoned is successful so as long as this effect is chain link 1, you will have the opening at resolution to negated the summoned. They are two different categories of speed, they are the activation of card speed, and the activation of effect speed. The activation of card speed goes from speed 1 all the way to speed 3, while the activation of effect speed goes from 1 to 2, they are no activation of effect speed of 3. Spell speed 1 activation of card does are, all the spell card except for the quick play spell card this also include when you activated half of a pendulum scale because this is considered activating a spell card, and igntion effect are now in this category, during the time of goat format igntion effect was seperated from both category. Speed 1 activation of card, mean they can't chain to other speed 1 card and higher speed, and they cannot activated in response to timing that does not start a chain also. While speed 2 activation of card speed can be chain to spell speed 1 and 2, they can also chain to timming that does not start a chain. It can be played during the damage step but it have to be before damage calculation only if it modified attack/defense. It can also be activated during the damage step if it negated the activation of a card or effect, and this one can be play during the damage calculation, however in goat format it cannot be activated during the damage step even if it negated the activation. While speed 3 activation of card does are counter trap, and can be chain to any speed, and only their own speed can be chain against them. Activation of effect speed of 1, does a triggger effect by phase and by timming, trigger effect by timming will form a long chain with each other depending if they are mandatory or option, and trigger effect cannot be chain to spell speed 1 activation of card, even thought they can chain to other trigger effect. A phase trigger effect cannot cannot chain to another phase trigger effect, however a phase trigger effect can chain to a timming trigger effect, and also a timming trigger effect can chain to a phase trigger effect. With mandatory phase trigger effect the turn player can pass priority, but if the opponent pass priority back then you have no choice to applied the mandatory phase effect. While with mandatory trigger effect on timming does one you can never pass priority on them. The activation of effect speed of 2 does are quick effect, if it negated the activation it can be play during the damage step even in goat format, on negating the activation it will always be a When and never an if since it is considered the counter of the effect speed since they are no speed higher and they cannot be activated in respond to counter trap card even if they also negated the activation of trap card. A quick effect of a card if it modified the attack/defense of a monster(s) it can be play during the damage step as long as it is before the damage calculation however in goat format you can't. This is why monster card Honest in goat format specified to be used during the damage step, because otherwise it could not be used.
Very insightful thoughts from him
1:23 Im coming in here to defend Armityle, he is a very good last ditch play if you need to make it. Sacred beasts can run pretty well without it.
Pot of desire is more dependent on what deck you are playing. There are cards that want to be banished from the deck

Dang, we had twomad.
But this guy is like fourfurious.
Protection my ass, every card in the game can’t be invincible,it takes the fun out of the came, miss the old days, in my opinion it’s okay to have a couple like 1% or even .1% invincible with many effects but not all of them it takes
Well to be fair, most cards used today are not invincible. They can usually be banished or returned to hand or something similar. Very few cards have protection vs everything.
The problem with modern yugioh is that you can't play because of all the negates. If the other person goes first and is able to set up a board (which is very easy to do if you have no hand traps) it is very hard to play a card without it instantly being negated and destroyed on your turn. It isn't considered a good deck if you can't get at least 3 negates on the field on turn one.
Im his generation and I would need help now to enjoy this game because I absolutely love it still. Still watch the anime still!! I'd need someone to even help put together a deck now for sure
THE BOTS ARE GOING CRAZY! But solid video though.
