    I went to a job interview and the interviewer literally told me to go to the bathroom and fix my hair (I have no ac in my car) florida humidity plus hispanic curly hair =...you do the math. The thing is it was already up in a bun so...not much to do. I remember in high school kids saying they wanted to attack my hair with a straightener. Im so happy I found your channel ❤ never getting rid of my curly hair

    Your hair without your usual products and including not plopping STILL looks healthy, shiny, and beautiful! All of your hard work to take care of your hair has definitely paid off even when you don't use your regular routine! Lovely!

    When I get out of the shower, while my hair is soaking wet, I take the end of a rattail comb and I poke around my hair and lift the hair off my scalp. My hair tends to plaster to my head and if I don't do this before plopping, then it sticks and I get no volume. This does cause quite a bit of water to drip, so then what I do is spray my hair with water before or plopping so then I can easily apply project and still have the squishy sound & clumps. I have very fine, 2b/2c hair and it dries very easily. I recommend this to anyone who gets hair plastered to their head after getting out of the shower.

      Thanks for this! I have that problem too. I just started this curly/wavy hair journey, and I love the curl definition I get from plopping but I definitely have the same issue with hair plastering to my scalp and then drying flat at the roots. Gonna try this!

    • @kaylan2083
      @kaylan2083 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@emily3 it helps a lot. Or raking your scalp with your fingers and then re-wetting your hair if you lose clumps from that. Anything to get your hair off your scalp is a plus! I feel like no one talks about it but it is terrible and creates zero volume when it's plastered! I also find that microplopping with a t-shirt after plopping for 5 mns gives me lots of curl definition.

    Thank you so much for making this video. I have been working on my hair for a couple of years. My hair is 2b-3a thick, corse, wiry, unruly , uneven, dry frizzbomb. For years I have tried everything silk pillow, silk bonnet, tried following the CGM, used good products, tried many different methods and combinations, perfect towel, you name it. My hair soaks up moisture and loses it just as quickly. Small amounts of protein are ok, but anything more it was even more dry and brittle. I’ve always had to hydrate daily, at least wet and condition daily. I stopped dying or using heat on my hair over 5 years ago to let my silver start to shine. I had never seen the wet plop method, I tried that today, it has made a world of difference. Absorbs all the good stuff I put on it, it clumps and stays that way. I have never seen my hair look the way it looks today. I can’t believe it. I just wanted to come on here and express my gratitude. You have led me through a journey. Thank you so much for doing what you do.

    The way I do it is:
    I put the leave in and squish my hair. When I'm done with squishing I micro plop. Then I put gel and squish my hair and then again I micro plop. After all that I finish with dry plop with microfiber turban. I hold the dry plop for about 20min then diffuse. I always have the best results that way. (I'm 2a/2b,thin hair)

I tried plopping early in my journey to healthier hair but it just didn’t work for me - my hair would dry funky and I didn’t see any improvement in clumping. But I’m much farther down the road now. I’ve been plopping again since watching this and it’s made a big difference in my clumps staying intact while I air dry.

    I used to just micro plop because dry plopping left me with super stringy clumps. I watched the bowl method video and tried wet plopping and loved the results. So now I wet plop and then micro plop each wash day( twice a week for me) and am always very happy with my wash days. My hair is past my mid back, high porosity and medium density. My diffusing time is quite a bit longer but it's worth it for me.

    Because I have bangs that get wonky with traditional dry plopping I’ve been micro plopping with my perfect haircare towel. I hold each section about 90 seconds, which does help a lot with my clumping, but my diffusing time is still pretty long and I don’t get much root volume. Now I’m curious to try dry plopping for 10-20 minutes and just deal with bang situation separately.

    I microplop when I first get out of the shower so my hair isn't dripping wet and weighing down my hair. Then I plop in a cheap hairnet I got from Walmart for roughly an hour so my hair can air dry for a little while. I take it down, add a little more mousse (the Aussie mousse) and diffuse to 90% dry. Then I dry plop it in the hairnet again until it's completely dry to encourage volume and shrinkage. I find the hairnet preferable to fishnet stockings as the holes are smaller and none of my curl clumps fall out of the plop but there's still plenty of small holes for air to get in.

    • @lisabeckman6581
      @lisabeckman6581 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Instead of fish net I use a hair net bonnet type thing that I ordered from their website, it’s called Scrunch It Breathe (they make the scrunch it brush). It has a drawstring the pulls it up on all sides. I find it still has all the benefit of fish net but theres still enough room for movement at the roots. There’s way less guess work wondering how dry it is. Plus you can loosen up the drawstrings to get even more movement. Your option is definitely a more budget friendly option.

    I have 2b/c hair. I squish to condish, then scrunch in leaving, then get dried off, take a few minutes to drip dry. Then I will mircroplop, then assemble my final plop. I will let the final plop sit for 30min to an hour. If I feel like it I will diffuse to 80 percent dry. This gives me such pretty shrinkage and definition. I have tried finger coiling/ forming once and I got very pretty uniform curls. Today I am going to try the coiling and then using a diffuser to speed up dry time.

    I found this video useful. my hair is similar like yours when it's dried w no product but with more frizz. the first time I plop, my hair turned very wavy-ish (between 2a/2b?) so that's very surprising for someone who has been "straight passing" her entire life lmao. tbh, it made me feel like such a poser, cuz I thought...well maybe its like that cuz if you put your hair in plop like that, it definitely would be wavy/curly right? until I started to regularly plop, my hair ACTUALLY remain that style for entire day.
    I feel like I have been duped my entire life thinking I have straight hair. My hair disagree and now I identify as the wavy girl lol. Also learn not to brush my hair unless I want a lion mane from all the frizz.

    I use the same exact towel (it's easier for me than trying to tie anything) & plop in the same exact way. I leave it on long enough to apply all my body lotions, powders, skincare, deoderant etc & get dressed then I put a smaller towel around my neck & shoulders & let my wet hair settle & air dry for a bit before diffusing. My hair is curlier when damp or when the air is more humid. I have to lock in that curl pattern & moisture with a light weight but strong hold product like mousse, & if it dries too quickly it will just go straight. It's always less wavy in the drier Summer months which is frustrating. I might try the wet plopping then. Thanks!

    Hi Courtney! Can I do the wet plop with a plastic bag? I have so much hair and the shower cap and they don't fit in the shower cap XD And, another question: when you talk about the transition phase... how long does it usually last? I'm using the curly girl method since january more or less, and I already have achieved incredible results... if my hair would become curlier than now, I would be the happiest person in the world!

    Can you get all science-y and talk about why our wavy/curly hair takes SO MUCH LONGER to dry with stylers in it versus when there are no stylers? I'm an air dry girl and with a toddler it's becoming impossible for me to figure out when I can wash my hair so its has time to dry but also not stay up til 1 in the morning or not take my daughter outside cause my hair is still wet. Ugh the struggle is real. Anyway that would be an interesting video to me. Thanks😊

    My hair is very much like yours. The back is naturally wavy, the front is straight . Not as thick now that I’m 66. At a salon it can be made to look enviably loose& curly. I can never get the same look. 🤨🤨🤨 . I may try plopping.

  • @sarahh1331

    So helpful, as my plopping (and air drying the rest of the way-- can't use a diffuser due to joint problems) was just messing up my curl clumps and creating weird kinks in my 2a/2b hair.
    I think you should know that the word plop is used frequently in our house by my husband, but as a noun, and slightly modified, as in, "I need to go take a plopper" (dump) or "I'm going to take a ploppity." He said this once to one of his grad students during a night of observing at a telescope in Chile, and the student looked at him and said, "Did you just say 'ploppity'?!?"
    End of digression. Love your videos. Have you ever reviewed Ouidad products?

    I can't get t-shirt plopping to work for the life of me! It smashes my hair down onto my scalp no matter how loose I tie it and creates clumps ON my scalp, which in turn creates really weird parts and pieces going every direction. Not cute 😄 next to try is wet plopping!

    I have low porosity hair, I'm not sure all of it is lp and I don't think it's naturally lp(I remember when I was a kid that after swimming [air/sun drying] or showering and putting my in a towel that it didn't take as long to dry as it does now). Wet plopping sounds like a good idea despite the increased dry time

  • @deyaneria
    @deyaneria 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've tried plopping and it's a no go for me. I realized when I tried it few times my scalp was terribly itchy. All the product dripping onto my scalp made it very unhappy. I just use my perfect hair care towel to gently wrap my hair much like I did with a terry towel before. So my hair is gently wrapped but not dripping onto my scalp, only for as long as it takes me to do my skin care and get dressed then it comes off right away and I air dry. Thankfully my mermaid waves seem to stay. My scalp just can't stand product on it. Shampoo is for my scalp and the rest is for my hair so i don't usually apply anything else to my scalp. Unless I'm using the curlsmith scalp line but even that conditioner is use sparingly.
