    Kerry Lou! We could be hair twins. I did the curly-girl method before it WAS a method. In addition to what you're doing, for some reason I find my curls are better when I rinse my hair in cool water. The colder the better. Maybe it closes the cuticle down a bit? Thanks for sharing yourself with us. You are gorgeous and an inspiration.

    • @kerrylou3
      @kerrylou3  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sorry for the late response! I wanted to reply regarding the cool water - thanks for mentioning that, it does indeed help close the cuticle, so then the hair is shinier! Thanks so much!

    I've got to be honest here, I am exhausted watching all these steps so my curls can look their best. I applaud anyone who has the patience for all of this. Unfortunately, I am way too lazy and always in a hurry to comply with all of this. Kudos to those who can!!!

    • @elisaastorino2881
      @elisaastorino2881 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's not a matter of being lazy - the curly girl method is just too complicated! When we were locked in, I let my hair air dry once and discovered that it was really wavy after treating it as straight all my adult life. When I returned to my hairdresser, she cut it to maximize the wave and recommended products but I also studied on my own and came across the method. Way, way too complicated for me. I also have chronic vertigo and doing all of this would probably make me pass out!

    Your silver curls are absolutely gorgeous. I think your cut and the method are perfect. After chemo my hair changed and became much more fine and much more wavy. I tried the “curly girl method” then, but then went to a blown out bob. With summer coming I am considering trying it again, possibly with a shorter cut, thinking I might have a better wave pattern. Thank you for excellent directions.

    Kerry Lou I love your channel I grew out a pixie 4 years ago and low and behold I have very natural wavy curly hair and I had to learn how to deal with it. Over time I have found the bowl method to be the best and I speed it up with adding conditioner and gel together in the bowl and then scrunch, scrunch, scrunch. I have a turban that I bought off of amazon that I wear when I plop and I am going to try wearing it longer when time permits. I like curl clumps sometimes and sometimes not and you are right its never the same twice. I use a Denman brush or a big tooth comb to form my hair curls before scrunching it all depends how I feel. My hair is about your length as well and I let my hair go natural gray many years ago.....I am 68 now.

      Thanks for telling me in the other view is about your experience with your hair, it’s very useful to know how other people are handling the Curls, because as we know they can be finicky 😁. I’m always changing the combination and quantities of the products I use, where I live, the seasons really change the texture of my hair. Good luck with your curls! 😁

    I lost alot of my curls with age, menopause I guess, and have been trying every product out there to get them back. My hair became softer after I stopped coloring it meaning that it doesn't hold shape as well. I have an absolute arsenal of hair products but I have made a few discoveries along the way that seem to be working. The first is sticking to one product line at a time because they're formulated to work together and don't mix and match products. The second is watching your videos...I'll be damned, great tips and I've achieved better curls that actually hold without being crispy....I do need more practice though. Thanks so much!

      Thanks so much for this Cathy, It's really hard to keep up with our changing hair needs isn't it? I think many of us are still trying to style our hair the way we used to, even though our needs have changed so much. Good to take a fresh look sometimes. Yes, I agree about mixing lines of products. Good luck with the rest of your curly hair journey! xx

    I'm even later to this party than you! I've heard of the "curly girl method" but assumed it was a product line. I've always had curly hair and accepted its tendency to frizz. However, lately with more grays coming in, the frizz just makes me look like a harridan---not a good look! I will be trying this method very soon! Wow Kerry-Lou what you do for us subs, thank you! I haven't had a professional haircut for about 18 months. Mine is really super short and I "attack" it with clippers for back and sides and scissors for the top with hand held mirror - every 3 weeks. I'm wondering if this method will help train and shape the top half of my hair. After 42 years being on this planet thinking my hair just sucked, natural curls have stopped fighting and sort of became my hair. The bottom half gets super curly, my problem is the top half is more combination half waves half spiral and can make it look frizzy or sloppy.
    One thing that really helps is to run out and get those rain curls, i take full advantage of a good storm to drench my hair. Just squeeze the access and air dry and my whole head is great.
    This is all new to me as well. But I'm elated to find out i never had uncomfortable hair, i had no idea it wanted to curl
    * your hair is absolutely stunning in every way, the curls and color is magical!

What your video has shown me that is different is using the t-shirt to set the curl. That will be my next trick and I do believe it will really enhance the curl before diffusing. I do not have curly hair but I find it fascinating to watch the great lengths one has to go to to care for curly hair. I think you look gorgeous, and I mean gorgeous, with blown out hair or your natural curls. You must have great core strength in order to make this video. Amazing. 🤗 You look wonderful without makeup. No need at all to apologize. But I do understand how you feel. It can be a vulnerable feeling sans makeup. You are lovely with or without makeup. 😊 A very fun video. I wonder what girls/women did for their curly hair when I was a child. 🤔 I don't think they had all these products and methods. So very interesting. You are so sweet. ❤

    I enjoy your videos and your personality, up beat and fun. I'm nearing 65 yo, have natural curly hair but disappointingly thinning hair every year. You dear lady have much more hair than most our age. Such a gift. I purchased the Aveda products you used in a video, and now see you using other products. I like the curly product but wonder if any other product would give me more illusion of having thicker hair. Would darkening from golden blonde to a degree lower help? I color my hair with Loreal's Box Champagne Blonde and have so a couple times a year for 30 years. I may have to just cut it short but I'm almost 6 ft and fear looking like a pin head LOL

So far, this method has been the easiest and most effective for my wavy/curly hair. I get really good results with only air drying. This video was really easy to follow and it's nice seeing results from only a few products.

    I can relate to you so much in this video! I have very similar hair...it's curly and gray. Over the last year, I let my hair grow out too. I've never allowed the curls to exist...have always had it straightened or I have blown it out straight. Letting my hair go curly is not something I know how to do....so thank you for this video. I'm going to give it a try. I need to update my photo that I have on here too. It was taken about 5 years ago when I colored and did keratin treatments on my hair!

    Road testing this method today - thank you Kerry-Lou. If anyone had/has the same problem as I did - dripping wet hair from the bowl method and then trying to get yourself dry and dressed from the shower - I put my wet hair into a turbie twist for not even five minutes while I got dry/dressed before releasing and plopping. I put the turbie twist on the opposite way to how I would normally do it - the wide part to my upper forehead with head tipped forward so all hair to the front and twisting very gently at the nape of the neck, meaning no hair in the twisted section. Looking forward to seeing the results later today.

    My hair is fine, gray and the length of yours. You got just enough cut so the curls bounce back. Mine is top heavy, once I get a layer or 2, I'll play more. I love Not Your Mother's curl talk. You look awesome!

    Hello Kerry Lou, loving your videos. I try all sorts of methods with my hair. The important thing for me is to retain the hair pattern, frizz free and to have it last all day wearing a headset for my job. I unfortunately have to remove it a minimum of 20 times daily. Sooo I tend to use super hold mousse. The first day it looks good and shiny. Day two, good hold, no shine and clumpy. Day three, no shine, dingy looking, and all over the place. Once in a while a miracle happens, and I look presentable for 3 days before the next wash. This brings me to another problem. In the am I fix it for work, hence the mousse. Not a lot of prep time and it has to be dry by 9.30am after staring at 6.30am on day one! By the time I'm on the phone. Now it really isn't dry, which is why I look like the wicked witch of the west by day 3. It does look a bit clumpy, no time to get the cast out before my 1.30 lunch break. Find extra hold Tressame does hold it. I would like a softer look, but it won't hold with the headset. Suggestions welcome. It is crunchy at times. Keeping it straight and frizz free in Fl humidity is not easy. I have the same problem if I wear it straight, with endlessly dragging it through a straightening iron. Still, I can get it looking good before I exit my front door. By the time I get to the car it's time to start again. Help. Again, suggestions are welcome.

    @Kerry-Lou Thank you for sharing this. So much great curly hair videos out there but so FEW for GREY hair. And as you note, it IS different. Question…how many times a week do you do this? Where does this fall into, say, a week of hair care? I would love a video of you explaining you hair care schedule - from one wash day to the next. Thanks!

    Your hair looks amazing...I am glad (but it's your hair) that you only got it trimmed. I like the convenience of having my hair a bit longer, too. Who would think that doing curly hair would be such a workout!!! LOL!!! I beg to differ...you still look pretty upside down sans makeup! I just did the "bowl" technique, and I am sitting here with a turban made from T-shirt material on my head. I will let you know it it turns out after I try it a few times. And, the blouse and kimono...they are not beautiful...they are breathtaking. So elegant and classy...just gorgeous. Take care, Carol. :-)

    I love your videos. I feel as young on the outside as I do on the inside. Thank you so much. I am growing out a curly pixie that I have because I am embracing my gray hair. You were my inspiration for just cutting it off as an option to get to that gray faster. I am a huge proponent of the curly girl method. It brings out my curls so well. My curly mohawk was fabulous and somewhat edgy. I could style it with a healthy dose of gel and air dry it or use a diffuser (I am not one to spend a lot of time with my hair). I want something softer now that does not scream "old lady" so I am slowly growing it out. I LOVE how your hair looks and it has the same kind of curl that mine does. Here's the big question. Do your curls fall naturally the way we see on video, or do you have to do a lot of work with a curling iron to get it look so lovely. I imagine that it has to be just so for the camera, but I am hoping that I wouldn't have to spend a hour in front of the mirror trying to replicate it.
