STG I’ve tried everything to save my curls while sleeping and NOTHING worked. Pineapple, Medusa clipping, bonnet only, everything. I tried the clips and bonnet trick last night and BOOM! It worked perfectly!! I even wore my bonnet for a while after I woke up because I was too scared to look at it 😂 Thank you, you marvelous genius you!!!

THAT and when you're led to believe that it's just frizz or that your hair is just wrong. I'm tired of letting people telling me that wavy/curly hair is undesirable and ugly bc first of all I don't agree, and second of all, if I'm to love myself and take care of myself, that includes my hair as well. It's gotten very long (couple inches lower than waist), and I'm no longer willing to let people put me down for my hair. I've had to learn how to take care of it bc no one in my life knows how to so yeah.

I always thought I just had tangly and frizzy big hair cause my mom with thin straight hair tried to get me to do her hair routine my first 19 years 🥲 when curly girl method became trendy early in the pandemic I started to realise my tangles were actually 2c curls!

THANK YOU! This was so helpful! I'm new in the curly-game and wore a bonnet at night so far. Mostly it's been working okay, but sometimes my hair would move around in the bonnet so I'd lie on the curls and they would look awful the next morning. The trick with the clips is brilliant! I wouldn't have gone near them on my own because I thought they'd be bothering me at night. But it works and now my hair doesn't move around in the bonnet.

Thank you!!! I have hair almost exactly like yours. I hate it touching my neck when I sleep so I have slept in a pony tail for the majority of my life. Because of this is have brittle hair and so much breakage.
My oldest daughter also has the same curls but she has autism and HATES brushing her hair. But the patch on her crown is a completely different texture because of the friction with furniture and pillows. I got her a silk pillowcase but because it’s not Elsa she sleeps with her Elsa pillow. So I recently decided to try a bonnet. It’s so hard to get all of her hair into it and we do still have to brush it. But it has been much better since.
Now I’m realizing that I need to try this for my 4 year old too. She has curly hair that DOESNT GROW! she’s never had a haircut and it’s so thin and broken because of malnutrition caused by her eating disorder. So when I saw her pillow covered in hair I had no idea it was pillow related. She now has a silk pillowcase but I want to try the bonnet with her.

First and best thing is to start watching all the curly and wavy hair videos you can find. Watch them all because it will give you 100+ unique or slightly different techniques to try. Start with whatever looks reasonable to you for the effort you want to put in and give it a try. Since your concerned with product cost I would suggest switching to a curly hair shampoo/conditioner since you already buy those products. Then focus on techniques more than products. Try to avoid brushing hair unless it's soaking wet and preferably with at least conditioner in it. Take your brush into the shower with you. Once you're familiar with the various options and have a few your comfortable doing. Consider adding the basic products (and they don't have to be pricey versions). Leave in conditioner is very important; tell your mother it helps detangle your hair she might like that if she doesn't like how you're hair is frizzy/tangled. Then you can go from there. But definitely work on how to care for your curls with videos like this and methods to decrease frizz and tangles.

It's true that the black community kept these strategies alive and accessible to everyone but it's not true that they are the only ones who've used fabric to wrap hair to protect it. Braiding and wrapping hair is seen in Asia (silk comes from China after all), indigenous peoples of Western and Eastern Europe, Native Americans and indigenous people in Oceania. Even as recently as during and at the end of WWII white women were wrapping their hair in cotton fabric to reduce how often they washed their hair due to war rations...that's where the hairstyle victory rolls came from. I had a friend in grade 6 who made her own bonnet from a pillowcase so she could sleep in a bit longer on school mornings. At that time (early 2000s) in Australia we'd never really seen a bonnet in our city school this was an idea that she thought of all on her own as a white early teen. I'm not saying that the black community doesn't deserve credit for perfecting curly hair care but what I am saying is humans of all races have found ways to protect hair throughout history so no one should feel uncomfortable about using a bonnet or a dutch braid or a satin pillow case.

They are the blueprint for everything that Ive been doing for my hair Im so greatful for them. Im adopted so my parents have a completely different hair pattern and texture from me and their videos are the most helpful rather than my mother ripping my hair out every morning with a brush.

It makes me so happy that you started the video by immediately acknowledging the black women that tested and created this method of hair care. I have straight hair, but it's very long (hip length) and coarse, so I use a lot of curly hair methods to take care of my hair, and this was so helpful!

I do the same! I think its a little wavy, but even though it might not, I use the curly hair method because i think it makes it healthier.

Honestly I really needed help how to use a bonnet properly. I'm actually Latina but I'm trying to fix my hair since I found out that I have curly hair very late in my life (since I was convinced that I had straight hair but just couldn't get it straight and smooth). This video was very helpful. Thank you!!

I'm crying tears of happiness. I have the same hair as yours and knew none of these tricks until now (I'm 22)! I mostly managed to braid my hair for the night, so they'd keep some waves even though most of the curls were gone the next day, but you've opened the doors to a brand new world. Thank you so much!!

Double pineapple 🤔 interesting. I'll try it. My problem with the regular pineapple is that my bottom curls are always stretched out. So far satin scarf and medusa clipping worked best for my hair. I always pin the scarf to my hair with bobby pins and it stays in place 90% of the time.

Hello, so once I turned 14 my hair turned curly (we did a big chop lol) I’ve been fighting the curl for 2 years and I’m trying to kind of appreciate my curls, I’ve done my research on things to help, I’ve tried everything. I’m white but my hair is just poofy and curly and hard to mauntain.I’ve tried So many products, methods ,etc, I was wondering is it okay to wear a silk bonnet around my house/while I’m sleeping ? I just don’t wanna offend any people of color!I know the history behind all this, I just like to ask around so I can be respectful, but this is rlly as a last resort Bc my hair situation, I just want to try to embrace my hair more , feedback would be much appreciated!!
