People sometimes poke fun at me for how protective of my hair I am, but it's like if you spent 3 hours dry finger detangling, taking a shower washing, sometimes twice, conditioning & more detangling, plucking from your fingers & then setting aside the shedding hairs, partially rinsing, squishing again, fully rinsing, leave in, partially rinsing that out after more detangling, brief skin care, detangling, styling, diffusing, & then carefully sleeping in the cast only to wake up & apply a bit of oil & then a super quick hit with the diffuser for a volume boost, you too would protect your hard work!
3 hours? I'm maybe 10 mins prep after a shower and 5-10 mins diffusing. I don't have thick hair, but it's long. I get being protective though just because they'll frizz up my curls. 😊 It still doesn't keep random people from touching it though.
Out of the (seemingly) millions of curly girl videos I have watched recently, this is by far my favorite. I feel so validated and completely normal now. Lol
🤣😅🙃 So true and hilarious! That part about the hair finally being ready to show the world, only for it to be bedtime . . . that’s real wavy/curly life right there.
Honestly I am discovering that my hair has been so frizzy bc it's actually wavy and I'm fighting it, and because of my ADHD no other instructional video was working with my brain , and this video helped so much
Ma'am, I would like to thank you for setting up this tutorial. I'm 24 years old and only very recently discovered that i actually have wavy hair. I have followed this tutorial and the changes to my hair is amazing. Its softer, shinier and while I Havent nailed it quite yet, it feels like I'm discovering a new part of myself I didnt know before. So thank you again for your help.
Oh, the sarcastic but honest commentary! You're so funny. Thanks for the laugh. I thought I was making too much of the process, but it seems it's universally tedious. I was hoping to be able to graduate to a point where it's not as tedious. I'm losing hope after seeing this, since you've been at it for years now. I've only started a couple months ago. Oh boy. The whole slipping in the bathtub thing, tho. Yikes, I almost did. That slip is great on hair, but not on the floor of the tub. Definitely rinse out that tub afterwards, folks!
I know this is semi-joking, but I actually found out by accident that taking a break from diffusing around the 75% mark makes a big difference with my curls. It started when my son woke up one time & it took me about 10 minutes before I could continue. I ended up w/no halo frizz, a thing I struggled with for a long time. I didn't think anything of it until a couple washdays after that, I had forgotten to get my little claw clips out, that I like to put in around 75 - 80% dry for root lift & better root curl. I couldn't find them & again stopped diffusing for about 10 minutes & again got better results than usual. Long story a tiny bit shorter, lol, I now always take a 5 to 15 minute break around the 3/4 Mark. Idk, it just works for me
This was GREAT! Your videos are always so informative and I love that you actually show us what you're using, exactly how you apply it, offer multiple tips & tricks... Even better when you're silly with the video and make us laugh while we learn! 😁
This was great. I only recently discovered my fine once straight hair has morphed into wavy hair. Still learning the techniques and sorting through products. It's a lot of work, so I got quite a laugh out of this... but it's all worth it! Loving what my hair has now become, and looking forward to learning more from your channel!
I just discovered two weeks ago I have fine, wavy hair when I've been wearing it straight my whole life. It's been a battle figuring out what works for me. I have issues with too much product weighing down my hair and no matter how I sleep on it, it needs a major refresh.
Thanks for the great video!! I'm 55, and tried the CGM waaaaaay back when it first came out, and gave up, since there weren't very many decent products or options back then. Amazon didn't exist (other than selling only books), and most households still had dial up internet. Yes, it's been a thing for that long. Currently, I am tired of fighting with my wavy/curly hair, so am trying to go back to it. TONS of products now, and awesome videos like yours. But the best part? I watched this video with the captions on, and you were SPOT ON with your descriptions of how I felt back then, and still now! Totally made my day!
What a great video ! I love my curls but hate the process and all the products that gunk up my scalp and weigh down my hair. Doing my hair takes soooo long that I usually air dry. Thanks for the giggles.
This is terrific! I cannot tell you how many times I have thought, "is there actually any science to support squish to condish? Because it makes ZERO sense to me how that could ever possibly be a thing. We don't squish our skin to get the products to absorb. I highly doubt the keratin of hair is THAT different. Squishing just produces frizz for me, so I've given up even trying any more
I don't know why I watched the whole video since I only use a leave in conditioner but I'm glad I watched it and laughed. It's the best YT video I watched today. LOL
Found you since yesterday. I am going to start this weekend with my final wash. You are so helpfull and I have zero expectations for the next couple of months. This video made laugh and gives me a heads up to what is coming.
😂 This was *so* me when I started my hair journey! 😂 It took me a while, but I finally learned that what works for _most_ curly girls, does NOT work for my fine, wavy hair, so I do my _own thing!_ 😬 Thanks for the giggles! 😉
I'm still waiting to fund someone who says that what works for "most" curly women (seriously... why do we say girls?) works for them. Yes, it is true to say that you probably shouldn't was every day, you should probably avoid most sulfates, and you you probably shy away from silicones. But industrial chemistry is constantly evolving... there are newer silicones that cause less buildup, and gentler sulfates that can be helpful when used sparingly.
@Lu G, I have fine wavy hair too, and doing all the things she is doing makes my hair feel thick and sticky and weighed down! It doesn't look great either, though that could be user error. I can't get past the feeling of having so much product in my hair though. What is your method? Do you mind sharing? Thanks!
@@o_O..No. I can't stand that "too much product" feel, either and I'm happy to tell you what works best for me! In the shower, with my hair soaking wet and applying upside down, I use a small amount of Raw Curls Curl Cream (which I never thought I would do because I tend to stay away from creams). Using praying hands and then gently raking it through from about half-way down to the ends. Then I use a mousse or foam (I prefer Raw Curls Styling Mousse/Foam, but I"m trying to work through some products 😂the Herbal Essences works pretty well for me and so does Innersense). Anyway, I take a decent amount of mousse and apply it the same way I apply the curl cream. Then, I kind of do a flip/flop using a flour sack towel (meaning, I grab my towel, wrap it around my head tying two corners together at my forehead and stand up straight - quickly but carefully - and my hair kinda plops on top of my head. I secure the flour sack towel, get dressed and then take my hair down (so it's only up about 5 minutes) and diffuse. Does that help?! 😬
I used those two gels together last week and omg they did wonders on my long wavy hair. I had more curls and they lasted!!! Thank you for the previous video you used them together! (Three gel method)
What were the two gels? My phone screen is too small to see anything other than Harry's for the second (and it appears there are a whole bunch of gels in the Harry's line)
I like it! My hair is barely wavy when wet, but there's definitely bend! I'm going to try it and see if curls materialize since I've never gelled and scrunched as described. thanks!
I have a ton other beginner videos as well! Have fun with this, it is a journey! I really encourage to focus on the health of your hair and loving what you were naturally given!
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney Thank you so much for all of these! I have had some good washdays...and some stringy messes. My hair is super fine, baby soft, and tends to become flat. But it bends when wet. Using some of your tips, I have had some absolutely curly days! I am shocked! This is the most fun I've had with a new beauty item in a long time !
I prefer washing my hair upside down. I have dry hair but my scalp gets oily quickly so this method makes it easier for me to control where the conditioners go. I find it also gives me more volume and makes scrunching easier for me. I love all your videos and this one really made me laugh 😂❤️
There are plenty of great tips in the CGM but I still don't follow it. I LOVE a squeaky clean scalp that sulfate shampoos give me, and even though I really like silicone conditioners as well protein is my Gospel. This is quite comical yet helpful!
Ugh this looks so exhausting lol. I’m new to embracing my natural curls and found you the other day. I’ve been straightening my hair for the past 20 years but my hair has been breaking a lot lately. I’ve got a lot of work to do and a lot to make up for. I’m just overwhelmed by everything I have to do now.
Even if you don’t get curls and don’t want to bother with gel and diffuser, your hair will become much healthier and moisturized. My hair was falling off a lot and also was dry and breaking easily. After a month of using cg approved products it’s falling less and looks shiny and moist.
She's kind of roasting her routine the whole video. It does work for her, obviously, but she also has been working on this particular method for something like 4 years. I have much less wavy hair than Courtney, but I appreciate all her advice about taking care of my hair. If you've actually been straightening your hair for that long, most of it is probably damaged enough so you'll have to cut the damaged parts off at some point. But while you're transitioning from heat straightened to wavy hair, you only really have to do a few things differently. Here's what I do: Wash with a sulfate free shampoo 2x/week, use tangle teaser scalp massager, squish to condish, rinse out conditioner. I like to use a leave-in conditioner on soaking wet hair and squish some more. Then I use styling products. I like gels and sometimes a foam, just make sure they don't have drying alcohols. I try to diffuse my hair most wash days. I think Gena Marie has a great diffusing technique video. I like to use a regular sulfate shampoo or a chelating (to remove hard water build up) shampoo once a month. I deep conditioner at that time. I don't usually use any styling products on that day. In between washes, I might mist my hair with distilled water and detangle. Then I scrunch some more. Sometimes I diffuse after. It gets easier. Mostly I try to remember that I'm making MY hair as healthy as I can. If it looks more wavy or less frizzy, that's good too 😊.
Watched this for the first time and I busted out laughing at multiple times during this. Loved it so much and really appreciated the info along with humor! Made my day!!! Love, laughter and blessing to you! And all the curly girls out there!
This was so funny, even though parts were accurate. Thankfully, because there are so many of you who have paved the way, my journey-which I started 3/2022, has been a little easier. Your videos along with a few others have helped me figure out how I need to style my hair. Ps- I’m an upright styler, upside down my hair knots up, not matter how much product I use!
Oh Courtney, this was fabulous. I must say that I have found my shower floor to be very slippery, and I had to warn my husband to be careful. Thankfully, he is getting a curly girl education so he knows this will end up well.
As a kid/teen I didn’t do anything to get curly hair like that. Just let it air dry and went on. Now it’s a frizzy thick mess if I don’t do all this😭. I took it for granted then but Lord I swear I won’t again
This was so funny. It's fun to step back and laugh at ourselves. I hardly know anything yet about CGM. The after in this video did look so gorgeous. Am interested to learn a non-toxic, simple enough version without too many products. Not sure where to start but saw this channel, Manes by Mel, and India something (blonde, blue eyes) channels most recommended so will see if I can figure it out. I love when the wave comes out in my hair and feel more me when it does. There's not much of it but sometimes it shows up.
I haven't "had" curly hair since I started practicing a medieval style of hair care around a year ago, but if I use modern hair care methods my hair is deffo curly and I really appreciate this vid bc this is such a mood when you take care of your curly hair like a modern girl
By far my favorite video!😄 You are so fun! I'm here bc after 50 years of bone straight hair, hormones have played a trick on me and now I have lots of inconsistent curls. I have NO idea how to fix this mop. So.... relearning what to do with my new hair. 🤔
My friend who’s a stylist has just released my inner curly girl and TBH after watching all these videos I think I’m going back to the frizzy waves. I do not have the time or money for this! 😂
Your narration is so funny. So accurate! 😂 I started taking care of my waves some time ago but ended up stopping... now re-starting again 😵 The joys of having curls. Others: is it that hard/long to take care of curls? You hair is already wavy, it should be like that 'naturally' without any effort Me: 😶 rriigghhtt... (I wish)
So jealous of girls who can put all that gel in their hair and not have their hair look greasy and wet for the next few days until it's wash day again. I tried the curly girl method, but my hair could not handle the gel. It looked horrible. I abandoned the gel part of the method and tried letting my hair dry in braids instead. That just made my hair frizzier than before. Turns out, my hair can only handle the sulfate free poo and silicone free conditioner with a clarifying wash once a month and a deep conditioning once a week. Now it's nice and wavy and healthy without the gel costing waking it down. It was a frustrating process of trial and error but at least I figured it out. I still wish the full method worked and I could get more defined curls that lasted more than 2 days.
Have you tried a mousse or foam? There’s also a new product that just hit the market, called Verb Curl Foaming Gel. I’ve heard it’s out of this world! Just throwing some things out there, just in case. You know your hair, though. ☺️
I love this! Never knew diffusing was so easy (yet boring) and that scrunching a lot actually gives the best results. It looks like you have hair like mine. What products do you use and how do you not have any frizz? I normally air dry my hair in a down ponytail to keep the frizz and annoying maybe curls out of the top half of my hair and have been using some curl mousse and some argan oil to keep it soft and hydrated. I got very fine wavy hair
AHHahHAhaHAHahah Omg I am crying. In what appears to be an overnight transition, my stick straight hair "turned curly" when I turned 48!! I have been fighting it and wondering WTF. I used to put myself through spiral perms and scrunching and diffusing in the 80's and 90's in a DESPERATE attempt to make my hair anything other than straight and now...in my vision is age 51 and I am finally realizing my hard to tame, frizzy funky hair no longer desires to be straight. Nor is it capable. It's f***ing wavy! Thank you for this. I will laugh forever about your voiceover and the cabinet filled with products. Ok fine, my name is Ti, and I guess my hair is wavy now...have to start somewhere? 🥰 THANK YOU!!
OMG me too! I've had straight hair my whole life and then I thought menopause was making my hair frizzy! Fast forward a couple of years and I saw a video that made me realize my frizzy hair is wavy. It's a whole new world with so much to learn! Have fun with your newfound waves!
@@jetdsf Thank you for sharing, I love knowing I am not alone! It is an entirely new world (put gel in my hair when it's wet, WHAT?!) and I am doing my best to be kind and gentle to my frizzy frazzled hair while I learn the ropes. Also trying not to go overboard on buying a million products. Sigh. XOXOXO
I have just begun my curly/wavy hair journey. For the majority of my life, I have had very straight fine hair. Now, as I have aged and the silver hair has arrived, my hair is now somewhat curly/wavy!! I have no idea how to handle it. I wish that I could say that the curls are perfect spirals, lush and soft, but I can't!! Lol it really looks like a frizzy twigs (maybe a few tiny coils). I guess my question is, do you have any suggestions for a routine that would enhance my new silver buddies and give me soft beautiful curls? Thanks. I really love watching.

Courtney have you ever used 100% Aloe Gel as a styler gel? I’m curious why many don’t use it…I’m new to CGS ( actually I tried earlier & was too impatient to stick with it….but I’m back at it…deep diving into it through TH-cam videos). Would you recommend Aloe? If not why?
She made a video on that. The aloe didn't seem to hold and stop frizz as well as it could when using just leave-in conditioner then aloe - so her thought was on wet hair to use curl cream then the aloe.
You have such a good sense of humor! This made me laugh! I was wondering if you had tried Oleplex 4C. Their clarifying shampoo. If so, what do you think? Also if you have any good basic drug store options?
Turns out i have waves 😭, but since i didnt have the products so i just shampooed my roots and conditioned only the ends and then scrunched out the water, then i scrunched out the excess with a shirt and put a teensy bit of gel. My hair would usually dry frizzy and rarely have its natural texture but this time round the waves actually were more defined and actually looked good
I'm watching all your curly hair videos. My hair seems to have decided to turn back to the wavy I had as a kid. My adult life My hair was heavy and straight, so I kept it long. Now that I cut it back, my hair is back to the curl/wavy stuff. I don't know how to properly care for it 😕
Yall should try the brand Luseta. Its expensive on their website but if u have a marshalls, burkes, or burlington near u its a fraction of the cost and its free of alot of things. Do read which type u get bc they do work per what they say. The biotin ones do really help ur hair grow and thicken ur hair if u have thin fragile hair like mine

So just a note - I guess my son was logged in because I am not awesomepieguy1.
🤣🤣🤣 No worries!
Thank you!!! Glad it brought brightness to your day!
Hilarius!!!! I have changed my mind, im not doing to do the gcm afterall
😂😂😂v
Great video. It was funny and to the point for any curly girl beginner watching it. Thank you for the laugh.👍😂😂🥰
Im growing out my natural hair after smoothening. I loved your video ❤😂
Fun! Glad this helped!
I watched this on my TV which doesn't allow likes & comments but I loved it so much i had to open TH-cam on my phone to say so! ❤️
Haha thank you Robin!! 🤗
This is hands down the GREATEST curly method video I’ve ever watched. And I’m going to stop here. Thank you 😂
LOL Thank you!🥰
"Making sure to really waterboard yourself..." 😂 you're hilarious! ❤
I'm glad I have found your channel, your hair is almost identical to mine (except for the fact that I have very dark brown hair).
I love you lol. You are literally my spirit animal with all this sarcasm🤣🤣💜
Different diffuser everytime lmfao
Woman! 🤣🤣 To the straight hair peeps…this must be the inner monologue watching all of us. 🤣🤣
Oh Courtney, this was fabulous. I must say that I have found my shower floor to be very slippery, and I had to warn my husband to be careful. Thankfully, he is getting a curly girl education so he knows this will end up well.
lol thank you!
Sis. You’re actually the very, very - fearfully and wonderfully made - curlz person EVER!
🥰🥰🥰 Oh my goodness! This is so sweet! Thank you!
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney such a huge fan of you and all you’re about.
I haven't "had" curly hair since I started practicing a medieval style of hair care around a year ago, but if I use modern hair care methods my hair is deffo curly and I really appreciate this vid bc this is such a mood when you take care of your curly hair like a modern girl
Courtney, this did make me laugh! Really thought the background music added to the whole tongue in cheek approach of this video. 🙂 Fun!
I absolutely scrunchie my hair up when done styling❗😁🤣
This is actually really helpful. Thank you for making this video! 😂
LOL Glad it was helpful too!
I love your videos ❤️. What was the name of the brown bottle conditioner. Thats what I do after all the hard work. I put it up🤣🤣
So much fun! Really enjoyed your video and the comments you were making, made me laugh
Your narration is so funny. So accurate! 😂
I started taking care of my waves some time ago but ended up stopping... now re-starting again 😵
The joys of having curls.
Others: is it that hard/long to take care of curls? You hair is already wavy, it should be like that 'naturally' without any effort
Me: 😶 rriigghhtt...
I don’t follow the CGM method, I’m just a girl on a mission to find what works for my hair.
This is the most hilarious thing I’ve watched in a long time😂 Dude, it takes me like 12 hours, seriously, to dry my hair!!!
🤪🤪🤪 Oh my 12 hours! Ugh!
Love it 😂 what if u dont have a difuser? U cant use a normal hair dryer?
This is amazing! And so true! Guilty of the scrunchie top knot!!
Mission accomplished. :)
Still trying to find the right cut and styling method…. That’s quick…. 🤣
Sigh. XOXOXO
I can't wait to give it ago.
Cus I've tired as much as possible before.
So I will try.
It's a journey! And I have a bunch of other beginner videos as well!
this video was so fun to watch and so informative! I finally learned how to do my hair!!! Thank you and thanks for the laughs too.
Good messy bun. Don't forget the one-day stay of the curls.
Omg you are too funny😂!! I love it and your curls look great!!!
🤪🤪🤪 Thank you!
🤣😂 this is great. Thank you for the laugh. I got to the end and I'm like she has to put it in a scrunchie to finish this and you did it was epic 🤣
🤣🤣🤣 Had to do it!
Omg girl! You're hilarious! Thank you! I gave up curly girl and went to velcro rollers. Sooo much faster! 😆 thank you!
A looooooooots of work 😢😢😢 Im getting so overwhelmed by this method
Keep it simple! Shampoo, Condition, Styler! (Add in leave-in if needed).
...and you pray that you have the strength to finish this wash day. I'm dead! 🤣🤣🤣 Why is this so accurate?
🤣🤣🤣
I have used this exact same line up more times than I can count!
Your too funny love your announcing lol it's so true the water dripping down your cheek and the back of the neck even in your eye
You’re incredible 😂 this was amazing
Awe, thank you!

@@SwavyCurlyCourtney thanks so much. I loved the videos! Let the journey begin!!
Lol🤣😂I Love your videos!!!!! I do that all the time wash my hair then I put it in a bun.
All that work... lol
What diffuser are you using? Pretty sure I need it. 😁
your hair is absolutely gorgeous
Thank you so much!
Wow, didn't expect to be belly laughing so much to a hair video 😆⭐
🤣🤣🤣 Ah I am glad it brought you laughter!
Voiceover made this video so much better
What kind of hair dryer and diffuser are you using? Love your videos!
I'm literally cackling...thank you so much for this!! I love the reImagining of this video
😂😂😂 Thank you!
I saw ur bedset n i had to stop n say heeey! Husband and i had the same one for our old king size bed. Lol. 🥰
hahaha thats awesome!!! Great minds think alike!
This was the funniest thing ever! Laughed so much 😂 thanks for this video!
Glad you enjoyed it!! 🤣🤣
I really tried very hard to hold out but at the "slip and fall cause you're a good curly girl" I just broke down. I can'ttt
AMAZING result and video, Thanks for sharing what you do and use step by step, its SOOOOOOOO Helpful!!! I also had a good laugh:))
Best curly hair method video ever 🤣
You have such a good sense of humor! This made me laugh!
I was wondering if you had tried Oleplex 4C. Their clarifying shampoo. If so, what do you think? Also if you have any good basic drug store options?
Not going to lie, I actually really like the floofy look you had at the beginning of the video.
Not gonna lie, you had me in the first half.
Turns out i have waves 😭, but since i didnt have the products so i just shampooed my roots and conditioned only the ends and then scrunched out the water, then i scrunched out the excess with a shirt and put a teensy bit of gel.
My hair would usually dry frizzy and rarely have its natural texture but this time round the waves actually were more defined and actually looked good
My neck hurts soooo much afterwards. And then we have to refresh flat frizzy curls on day 3 and 4. UGH, then repeat process. IT takes an HOUR.
I loved it! You made me Smile after a long day at work!
Awe! I am glad it brought you smile! I hope the rest of your day was better. And have a good weekend as well!
I'm watching all your curly hair videos. My hair seems to have decided to turn back to the wavy I had as a kid. My adult life My hair was heavy and straight, so I kept it long. Now that I cut it back, my hair is back to the curl/wavy stuff. I don't know how to properly care for it 😕
Omg please tell me every product you used?
Loved the Waterboarding & Plop 😅
🤣🤣🤣
Love the comedy with the education.
This is why I quit CGM. Too much time, too expensive, no results. My hair was fine before and easier to care for.
Understandable. Although, there are now so many budget friendly products you can use! But you have to do what is best for you and your hair!
That's so me! All that work to put it in a bun 🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣
