      June 06 Depends on where you live and where you shop. The clothes in this video weren’t made for her body type. Most clothes in America would fit her with ease, but ASOS in particular has a plus size section for what is actually average here and their normal line is made for thinner, taller women

    Shop for YOUR body, never the models!!! Shopping exclusively based on how the clothing looks on the models body is a surefire way to get dissapointed. Always have your bodytype and height in mind! I know it can be hard to visualize in your head when it's an online store, but try to form your ideas of what will look good on you based on clothing you already have at home that you really like and think flatters your body. It's not asos fault that you are not good at picking out clothing for your body, and that's absolutely not meant to come off as rude but you cant blame the site for your own decisions. The shipping aspect is bad though and definitely something you should enquire about, I've never had asos be that late on an order but it happens on all sites sometimes unfortunaly.

    • @libbylikewhoa
      @libbylikewhoa 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Right?? When ordering online, a person always has to think about how something will look like on their body, not the model. Just because you like the way it looks on the model doesn't mean it will work on your body. Case closed

      I agree. I'm a firm believer that anyone can wear anything they like and don't deserve to be judged for it but at the same time if you're looking at a model that is a totally different shape to you and asking why it looks different when you wear it, that's not the brand's fault. You could argue that they should have pictures modelling every item on different body types, but that's a lot of money they're expected to spend on an item that won't sell much because it doesn't look right. I LOVE the look of tshirt dresses and really baggy things on models but I'm super curvy. I know it will not look the way I want it to, so I just don't buy it. Just like I won't look at dresses in bright colours that are super stretchy, close fitting fabric. That's gonna make me look more lumpy than a camel. Skater dresses though? I rock a good skater dress. I don't believe people HAVE to dress for their body types, that's a load of shit. I also don't believe in blaming companies for you buying things you know won't fit the way you want them to.

    I really hope i don’t come off like a c u next Tuesday but we have the same body type and when you shop online you basically have to completely ignore what it looks like on the model and be objective about how the silhouette will translate to your figure. I have to mentally add several sizes to the model and this helps me to prevent myself going through the hassle i used to of always returning stuff. I think it’s so easy to get caught up in how cute it looks on the model but i always think “if I saw that in a store on a hanger, would i be interested in it or do i literally only want it because it’s been styled for a shoot with a size 4 model”

    • @eolond1003
      @eolond1003 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I *am* a size 4, and 90% of the time things that look cute on models look not-so-cute on me. Maybe me being short throws off the proportions, but even buying petite-size is a crapshoot when it comes to ordering online.
      I think if your body is above or below average in terms of weight or height, it's easier to either get exact measurements (and pray the site is accurate with THEIR measurements), or just go to an actual store.
      As an example, I ordered a pair of jeans online, they fit perfectly. Ordered the same brand and style, but in a different color, and they didn't fit at all. Had the same thing happen with shirts! Same brand/style, different colors, different fits. I know online shopping is convenient, but it's also always a gamble.

      Yes, as someone who is 5’8 and 125lbs, clothes N E V E R look the same on me as the model. Even those sights that tell you the model’s height and weight. I just think a lot of sites alter clothing to fit the model and then send you the base version before alterations

  • @LivinOnTheEdge1001
    @LivinOnTheEdge1001 5 ปีที่แล้ว +177

    Hey Kristi I don’t think it’s ASOS fault but your choices. I think you should start doing research on what good for your body type. I used to have the same issue as I have an hourglass figure. I would see these models that were sticks were these cute dresses and then I would try it on and I couldn’t get the dress passed my ass and when I would get the right size it would be too big at the busy area. I realized that straight clothing such as jeans pants and dresses just weren’t for my body type. So I recommend that you do some research on clothes that will later your body type on Pinterest and then cater your selects around that. Also I recommend shopping at Nordstrom and Bloomingdales. I know that these places are more expensive but you can find quality clothes. I find that when you have quality material (not polyesters and polyester derivatives) and looks better on us curvy girls. Also my other recommendation is finding a quality tailor this will save you so much time and energy. At this point I pretty much get everything I buy tailored and it really makes a difference.

    • @KateCarew
      @KateCarew 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      LivinOnTheEdge1001 AMEN!! Get a tailor and everything will look superb! It’s a fraction of the total cost of clothes and I can say as a 5’10” hourglass woman I have a hell of a time getting things to fit around my hips and chest without dripping off my arms and waist.
      I looked dumpy in my teens while my body matured and finally my French grandmother said “darling, get a tailor and quit looking so unkempt”
      She started doing my adjustments and as I got older and her arthritis got wise I started using a private tailor and really, a $100 shirt costs $10 to tailor.
      This Kristi is nuts and reminds me of me as an awkward14/15 year old trying to find my style.
      She should find a stylist and clearly the comments agree.

    I'm so sorry Kristi! I love ASOS, have been shopping there for years and I'm also size 12/14 and fun size.
    From what I've seen, the style of cuts you chose are in fact shapeless and are meant to be that way.
    They have to have structure and shape to do you justice, definitely!

  • @itsema91
    @itsema91 4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    I get that she picked those pieces because she liked the style but it just happens that she picked styles that really don't suit her body shape. Shapeless tshirt dresses are meant to be shapeless, unfortunately that tends to make them flattering only for a certain body type which is just not hers. She needs more structured clothing, especially at the shoulders which will balance out her waist and she needs to be shopping in the petite section because she is short. This just became a: I bought the wrong clothes and they looked wrong haul. She should try Joanie clothing! They have super awesome, well made structured size inclusive clothing, although they are vintage inspired and that might not be her vibe...

    I'm a tailor, and I can tell you that 90% of the problem here is a very poor pattern development.
    Those clothes may look rather nice (Yet still not flattering) on very young, androginous girls, but every flaw and every bit of poor design are evident.
    Scale up a model is definitely not just make it bigger in every part, there are hours of work involved, other than experience and quite a lot of math.
    No wonder you ended up with shapeless dresses, too fit only where you don't want them, too loose where they have no reason to be (i.e. the shoulders... it's not that bones grow bigger with weight gain, if you know what I mean).
    The cheaper the clothes are, the more you're like to have this kind of problems.
    Oh, and also... those pictures?
    Those are most definitely the tailored version of what you receive... Lines, fabrics, finishing touches... I'm sorry but, to my eyes, none of those match with the actual clothes, and to me that's the saddest part.

      The fact is, it's quite easy to put together some linear, destructured, casual clothes in the standard size (I'm european, so for me a 42 or a 44, depending on the manufacturer), because at the end of the day, if your model sucks "designwise" you can throw the sample on the fitting mannequin and tweak it to make it look fine
      But this is cutting corners, and it will have an even worst outcome when you get to sizing it up
      All for the sake of production costs

    Even though I do enjoy your clothing hauls....i love ASOS and I've been buying from them for over 6 years. Regardless of my bias opinion about them, i can not understand why you would;
    a) not check your measurements, in your case specifically the length of the garment when you know that you are approx. 1ft shorter than the model on the website.
    b) ASOS have a change of order/cancellation window of at least an hour so you could have adjusted the second order to apply the 2 day shipping once you realised the order was processed without it.
    c) shop for your actual body shape. The way a dress looks on the 5"9 size 0 model is not how it will look on you! Even if you were 5"9 or a size zero....because you haven't been dressed by a stylist and you aren't surrounded by studio lights.....
    I hope you give ASOS another chance as they are so well known around the world for providing quality clothing and accommodating to different body types and i want you to love them. 😀

    I’m a plus size and the most important thing is knowing your body shape. Not bashing but a sports bra doesn’t help the look. With a good bra you may like the looks better but again some of them may not be good fit for your frame it all depends how you feel in them.

When I returned items it was always due to no right fitting because this was just not the right thing for my body type in the end or I didnt like the look on me or the fabric, which is not asos fault. When you order from an online shop you have to be aware that there is the possibility that in the end the items are not flattering on you. Same can happen to you in a normal boutique. @@Namron9797 um, no. Im short and chesty and i dont blame the fashion industry for me not being able to find great fitting clothes nor do i blame myself. Stores need to make a turn over so they design clothes based off the average shape of women based off the size they are making. I am 4-6" shorter than average and my chest is very large in proportion to my band size. Fast fashion clothes are designed to fit an array of shape differences within one "size" of clothes but they are not designed to fit way outside the norm because there would be no turn over and profit for them. Do you expect fashion designers to able to make clothes to fit every single body type be it apple, pear, hourglass, rectangle, short, tall all at the same time? How in anyones world is that feasible? No offense Kristi because you’re perfect the way you are but you’re comparing how they look on your body to a model who is much taller with completely different body type. All the products you got look like how they’re pictured. Of course they’re not going to look the same on you as they do in the photos. The dresses you bought are JUST as shapeless on the models they’re just in smaller sizes so they look more fitted.

    • @OhHiAndie
      @OhHiAndie 5 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      Yeah, I was going to say the same thing. The t-shirt dress and the "handmaid" blouse are just as shapeless and unflattering on the model, but the girls are so thin that it kind of hides how terrible the clothes are fitting. This is a clear example of WHY designers prefer to model their clothes on 6ft tall size 00 runway models -- you're basically seeing the least amount of fabric used to make that piece, hung from someone with no shapes of their own to disrupt the clothes. The girl flatters the clothes, not the other way around.
      And I say this as a size 8-10, 5ft woman. I struggle with this too, I hate shopping online because the model is almost never a representation of how I can expect to look wearing that item. I hated my body for years, because I couldn't quite comprehend why I would buy that exact same dress in the picture, and not look like the model (hint: I don't look like Karlie Kloss.)
      I love Kristi, but honestly? Considering how similar we are (short, curvy -- petite sizes 8-12ish) I'd rather see her vlog adventures in trying different boutiques, tailors, etc. to build a nice wardrobe that fits and flatters her body type. Places like ASOS are the Abercrombie of the Instagram generation, and we all know they cater to only one body type. :(

So she can technically wear a shirt dress and most of the other clothes. but she needs to shape everything else accordingly. Bahahaaaaa!! You had me rolling 😂 To hell with all these comments. I am a size 2 and I have ordered plenty of clothes from online stores that look awesome on the model and ridiculous on me. Keep in mind that those photos are staged and they often clamp dresses in the back to give it shape, etc.
    You rock! Love your confidence and humor 🧡

    • @thehilaryglow
      @thehilaryglow 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, most items not only appear in photos, but there's a video version of the model walking and twirling in them. So I wouldn't call them out for using clamps, sometimes they just use the same models with the same body types to show you most of their item. They don't really need to be dealing with clamps lol, it's just an easier job that way... nobody got time fo dat

    Theres obviously a huge difference between the International shipping/processes vs the UK site cos I have the next day delivery pass and order from ASOS several times per month and they're always here. Your experience sounds very much like the times I've ordered from US sites to the UK! It will say one shipping estimate of a few days then take 2 weeks to be despatched!!! 🙄🙄

    • @KateMaddy
      @KateMaddy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Charlotte Holdcroft Yes same. I’m in Australia but the express shipping from ASOS is always on time but my US orders take at least 6 weeks.

    • @alldevilgirl
      @alldevilgirl 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ASOS typically is decent with shipping in the US (though obviously not as good as the UK) but there is something going on right now because recently I tried to place an order and all of a sudden they’re having delivery delays and the two day shipping is not actually two days - which is definitely annoying because I always use ASOS for last minute needs.

    • @charloud107
      @charloud107 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      the shipping to Europe is fine as well. but with huge orders it does take a little longer, just like on other sites.

    In my experience (at least in the UK) petite clothing is for anyone 5'3 and under. So at 5'0 I would definitely go with petite over regular length, which is gonna be too long on the arms and the length.
    I have had pretty good experiences with Asos Curve, although I don't trust their size predictor thingy.

  • @bekahbrookemusic
    @bekahbrookemusic 5 ปีที่แล้ว +254

    • @katerinadyrda3820
      @katerinadyrda3820 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      maybe she doesn't want to admit to herself that she needs the curvy clothes..? it's rather simple to blame everyone else and not yourself

    • @bekahbrookemusic
      @bekahbrookemusic 5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Katerina Dyrda yeah but the sizing/ style didn’t work for her? She even bought a dress from petite and just got the larger size. ASOS is super specific. They have a short line, tall line, petite line, normal line, curvy line, plus size line, pregnancy line, etc. so ASOS tailors their clothes for each size and shape!

    • @staceym2957
      @staceym2957 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ASOS jeans are my life, I only have one pair but I need more lol. I'm her height pretty much and curvy so I get a mix of normal, petite and curve stuff. I have a Tee shirt dress from ASOS and it fits fine, finishes at the mid-thigh length, add a belt, and some converse and I'm good to go. The curve section for me is slightly big though, but it starts at my bigger size which is good

    • @michellegove
      @michellegove 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Asos has NEVER failed me. I’ve been shopping there for 11/12years. People really need to shop for their body. You will drive yourself crazy comparing yourself with the models.

  • @CallMeShads
    @CallMeShads 5 ปีที่แล้ว +369

    Okay but I think this is less of a sizing matter and more of a "i bought the wrong clothes for my body type" because girl those dresses would only look good on like "fashion model" body types. A t shirt dress isn't flattering on a whooooooole lot of people, I'm a size 8 and I know for a fact I would've also hated the way those would've looked on me. Maybe future vid idea: I buy clothes according to my body type ? edit: not saying thats the case for everything you bought Im sure there were other issues but just an idea

    I actually really appreciate you showing the model photo vs. reality. SOOOOOO many women have this problem when shopping online. It's so hard to compare what something would look like when the models are almost six foot and size 0.

    • @kerrbearstare
      @kerrbearstare 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheBlushedMama Hell, even if they show a plus size model wearing them, they’re all 5’10” and have any bumps or rolls insanely smoothed out. Most sites, unless you’re thin or wearing 50 layers of shape wear, will never be a realistic comparison. It’s so annoying.
