Few things from me this week: 1: One of the main reasons I did not put a bunch of community tweets in this video was to avoid any type of targeted harassment. I do not condone any of it and please don’t use this video as a means to do so 2: Be civil, it’s not hard
It was crazy how some of the same people crying misogyny for a female character getting with a male have also thrown a fair share of thinly veiled misogynistic comments towards the female character in between their BL ship. I've seen over the years how Uraraka could breathe and she would get hate with the moves she makes. Even crazier how many shippers of Bakugo and Deku turned on Deku himself, giving hate to half the ship from canon. Because Deku wasn't as submissive to Bakugo as they have imagined for their dynamic. Revealed many that didn't really care about Deku as an individual outside of the context of the ship, mainly as Bakugo's accessory. I could never hate half of a ship I like, so just seems so crazy to me. The cope has been INSANE from the AI art allegations and now people are twisting Hori's afterword statement to say it's not even canon... Anyway ngl, funny how the fandom was chilled down then Hori dropped the bomb. I don't like how vitriolic it got to attack Hori, but I won't lie and say it's like a car crash you can't look away from. I'm just glad I was satisfied with this new chapter to remedy the ending chapter for me.
Adored the final chapter. It worked for me on many levels. Despite everything, and all the controversies and everything of My Hero, I freaking adore this series and will always love it and hold it in good light. Forever among my favorite manga/anime 🔥
It's not the most toxic. It's really just a case that Horikoshi is a mangaka unfortunately living within the age of the internet where people feel more inclined to just act like asshats just because they're anonymous. This is a problem that's present technically with every big shonen. You've got a bunch of kids who just do not understand the story or how their fan-theories and obsessions are not something Horikoshi or any other author is obligated to follow.
@the-aspiring-creator4249 The weird thing is that a big amount of that crowd are not even kids. You see people in their 30s arguing about and mischaraterizing characters for the sake of something they gaslighted themselves to believe. The problem are not even headcanons it's believing that the author owes you something baseless that you imaginated. Then having the lowness to go harass the author... The behavior of that crowd really tarnished the reputation of MHA over the years and that's really sad
@@ouken1683 They did not tarnish the reputation of the series at least in the spots where it matters. Otherwise MHA would not be considered one of the top shonen series and frankly nobody should ever take this stuff seriously because what MHA has is not unique to it, it's present in many spaces. Manga, movies, TV, music, this kind of fan pops up all over the place.
@@the-aspiring-creator4249 The fujoshi's themselves are loud enough but mixed with shallow western audience and you have a majority backing this loud minority. Not calling all fujoshi's toxic but like in every group, theres the bad apple. And when large enough people backs this bad apple, they become a loud minority that taints the entire fandom from outsiders perspective.
@@ClaustroPasta I can understand that and to a degree the shallow western audience comment because of how many times I've seen people like that basically latching onto a word or whatever and assuming that's the root problem instead of looking closer. That being said, the amount of "tarnishing" that happens is on a smaller scale than people really think at least as far as the series is concerned which is what ouken's wording is referring to and that's what I have to go off of. In other words, I don't think it really tarnishes the parts that matter.
Deku - Has become someone who’s contributing across the world for his efforts and perspective, someone who’s view on the world isn’t as black and white as it started in Season 1 thanks to personally seeing the impact the current society has made for the generation today and after. Dedicating himself to remain ever-helpful to make sure no one ever feels abused or neglected in a world that doesn’t glorify heroes, but make them direct inspirations to do whatever you can to support each other, even if not for his childhood dreams, after it all, realizing to finally make a choice that would directly benefit himself as priority, to pinpoint who he’s the grateful towards for where he is today. Uraraka - Made a direct impact on the world for everyone else so the world benefits from her assistance as opposed to just her or those she selectively cares about, accidentally making her own emotions bottled up and ignored until she’s finally in the position to make that choice where she can choose who she loves unapologetically, reaching not just for everyone else, but for herself. “DEKU’S ARC IS REALIZING HE’S GAY AND URARAKA’S IS FINDING INDEPENDENCE WITHOUT A MAN!” … I’m extremely disappointed in this community, especially since some of the the Izuocha and BKDK fans are being hypocrisy driven agenda pushers, yet the Izuocha fans have more in their corner who actually care about the writing, doesn’t at all excuse the bad batch’s behavior.
7:54 The only thing i dont get is why you're phrasing it as if that's what Hori would want/should be able to write a queer romance, i agree that they are setting themselves up for disappointment but it's all their fault, Hori did nothing to queerbait or betray them, they are their enemies, they're the toxic deluded shippers who don't read the manga for anything except for their ship, ignoring and villanizing everything else
Not writing romance as the main thing, especially a queer romance is not a flaw, its a clear decision they chose to ignore for 10 years. They are the problem.
The entire point of MHA is what it means to be a hero. That's the only concept that the story explores from every possible angle. Romantic relationships are only slightly in there for like three couples. And those relationships are not important to the themes of the story. If you want a romantic shounen battle series, read Dandadan. The romance between Okarun and Momo is the main point of the story. Deku and Ochaku being a future couple was from the beginning of the story. They literally developed a crush shortly after meeting in the manga. The only other potential romantic relationships are Jirou and Kaminari and Mina and Kirashima. Those are literally the only three possible romances ever remotely developed in MHA. But again, it's not a romance series. It's entire premise is the exploration of heroism and the reasons why someone would either become a hero or become a villain. That's the themes explored. Romance is nothing but an afterthought even for the characters in the story.
Despite the mess the community is making of its itself, it won’t take away from the fact that I loved this final chapter and how much more complete the ending now felt with it. Took what was a solid ending already for me and turned it into a good/great one in my eyes. I’ll never be convinced otherwise no matter how many “fans” like to claim otherwise(I’m talking the ones who didn’t seem to understand MHA at all and maligned 430 and the rabid shippers who got upset with 431).
I just don't understand why people that are into lgbt ships don't watch shows that are catered to them. Like mha was destined to not be for those kinds of ships but they stayed anyways like at this point I just feel like they like getting disappointed. Can't they watch a show where the ships are lgbt and not watch a show that was meant for straight people. Another thing that I don't understand is why they can't understand what friendships are like not every relationship is all romance. Do they not understand the concept of having friends
I hope I don't come off as rude, but here are my thoughts: Do you know how hard it is to find queer anime that are also action packed where the characters are not just cliché tropes or cardboard cutouts? Or one half of the BL ship behaves like every female Shoujo protag rather than a guy (I don't think I can express well what behaviour I'm talking about...) I think us shippers gravitate towards the genres that write the most well-rounded, believable characters so we can actually care about that 'person' and their bonds. We constantly hope that society has progressed far enough that LGBT couples can casually appear in mainstream media without causing an uproar, but Shonen Jump proves us wrong every time. Even if there was an author who genuinely wanted to create a Shonen with a gay relationship in mind, they likely would not get the editors' okay because companies fear losing revenue if their mostly straight and male readers start boycotting the series for that reason. I hope this made some sense
@@lenabach3047 Make sense. The only thing i personally find frustrating is some of the arguments that spawn from twitter and tiktok that have no brains behind them. Shonen Jump may not allow a gay ship to exist but they would not force an author to confirm a ship either. Fujoshis are MHA’s biggest cash cow when it comes to merchandise being sold followed by the big 3 of Deku, Bakugo or Shoto. The argument that Shonen Jump “forced” Horikoshi to confirm Izuocha and give Bakugo a bittersweet ending falls flat when you start thinking of who benifits from it?? Why set the world on fire with 431 when 430 was more than accepted by the japanese audience. At the end, Shonen Jump is still far to “conservative” to allow a canon gay shipping but they won’t go outta their way to compromise their own bottom line.
Really, we should call it to a degree what it is. It's people being married to their pet theories and ideas and being unable to accept when a story does something different. This is an aspect of fandom that over the years has gotten more and more prominent with the rise of the internet that I'm certain happened before but back in the day, unless you were willing to dedicate the time to writing out and mailing off hate mail to authors or I guess writing into a newspaper and having those comments picked up? You'd probably just be sitting there stewing over developments because aside from maybe a group of friends you might have, you're not having immediate access to hundreds of opinions which means you have time to digest what you consume. Now, with the internet and such immediate access to the thoughts of hundreds, you don't need to stew and just seeing several people who may think the same as you do makes you go "Oh I'm not crazy, this isn't just my silly little theory, so many are thinking like this." and then the obsession starts. That's when people's thoughts start morphing and we go from "Oh this is a cool idea." to "This absolutely needs to happen no matter what." and it's not just a thing with shipping. We've seen more and more examples over the years of fans who basically claim ownership of the work and have let fan theories become fan demands as if they are owed something. Now to be clear, this does not apply to ALL shippers. Shipping is like powerscaling or theory-crafting. On its own, it is perfectly harmless and is a good way of exploring thought exercises with storytelling. It also is a great source for LGBT fans to explore and extrapolate on ideas that the original series may not ever get to, especially if through these lenses they feel seen. Yes they could watch other media but that media is not only hard to find because of the nature of this content being considered "taboo" by a lot of places, unfortunately there are examples of people who do write this stuff who are not in these spaces and are trying to profit and thus they create really bad media featuring this. MHA is not a story for strictly straight people. It can be assumed certainly that's a part of the demographic but what makes it so good is that it does encompass such a wide audience and sometimes, it is heartbreaking when an idea doesn't bear fruit. Frankly, it's why targeting fujoshis will always be insulting to me because it doesn't actually focus on the real problem. The people who love their BL are not the issue. It's just toxic fandom.
@@ouken1683 Not quite. Some are like that but the chronically online bit more comes in with the theory-crafting and the obsession over an idea. The truth is there are legit reasons people are into LGBT ships. As someone noted, there's the difficulty in finding good media with solid representation, how there's such a lack of that a situation like this where two characters are written well and with a believable bond that they see where it can go since the thing about relationships is natural chemistry is usually where the best ones sprout up. The shipping is not the problem, it's people being unable to accept that certain pet ideas are just that, ideas and that there is no obligation for them to be used.
You made me open my third eye realizing that side i love mha as the story and the ship but like you explain in your video you can't have the things you want it's the writers choice
7:08 obviously for the same reason that even people outside the medium who never interacted with it shares their opinion about it. Cuz its popular lol. These people dont care about Art Integrity and all that sht, they just want to join in on the popular franchise and ride on the hype to bring their own agenda
gatekeeping is not cringe it stops ppl from turning ur media into wat they want stop trying to turn shonen into shojo if the author wants to make the mc gay sure fine whatever just dont expect boys, ur targeted audience to read that shit, call it homophobic all u want but thats not gonna change the fact we dont want to read dat, dats wat shojo is for. we want sexy women we want fan service and if one finds it uncomfortable or objectionable then dont read it or try to change it to wat u want cus dats the reason gatekeeping exist, to protect the purity of intended media. the fact that people keep trampling male spaces and placating that they need to change while no one says anything about women spaces is repulsive, there shouldnt rlly be anyone encroaching on either especially in regards to works of fiction
Frankly, if this is how you view media assuming you're not a troll? You're not for purity. Plain and simple you are either a freakish incel who should be booted from this space as soon as possible or you're someone who has been brainpoisoned by the dime-a-dozen outrage merchants. Frankly, if boys are mature and comfortable then two dudes getting together should not be a problem and if it is? The problem's not the media, it's them. Also gatekeeping is only good for one purpose and that's keeping actual harmful parties that aim to destroy these spaces out like the outrage merchants who whine that male spaces are being trampled because frankly? One can see their agenda from a mile away and how it's built on hate and we don't need any of that garbage.
I feel like anyone that declares "This isn't X." when it comes to the original author coming in and writing the character in these circumstances deserves a slap upside the dome. It's one thing to be disappointed that certain developments did not come to pass but far too many times now, fans have let their investment in pet theories and so on mutate to where they stop being thought exercises but rather this foregone conclusion that has to happen whether it's characters needing to be more important than the purpose they serve in the story or in this case, shipping or more specifically, shipping that is done only in the way they want and relationships to be preserved in amber. I'm particularly reminded of Dragon Ball fans who insist on treating the Goku and Vegeta rivalry as though they have never grown beyond the Cell Saga and so rather than taking potential developments that grow the characters and mature them? Instead, anything that is not either Vegeta getting a clear-cut win or asserting dominance is considered "terrible", even when that development to be honest is completely backwards and would not serve the story. Deku having a relationship with Ochaco has been hinted towards for YEARS since the manga's been in print. Deku's relationship with Bakugo comparitively was never gonna be beyond a friendship. With Ochaco and Toga? I'm personally invested in Toga's story and how they intended it to be a tragedy, a situation where you want the best for this person and for their story to end happily which makes their continuous rejection of that outcome all the more heartbreaking. To compare it to another series I'm watching through, Korra's attraction to Asami is a genuine romantic attraction and it's one they hinted back in the early seasons while portraying Korra's dabbles with romance with Mako and Bolin as being properly messy and signs that she is mainly figuring that stuff out while her relationship with Asami is consistent and there's enough one can do to read between the lines. To be clear, I'm not for denying fujos and their opinions because it's valid to feel a certain way about a story, especially when there are cases where the material isn't great or they're just expressing their thoughts. We shouldn't go down the line of "Why are you not seeking out media with what you desire?" since while that's well-intentioned, it doesn't have great connotations. What I am for is making one factor clear. Authors still run the show and it is still their choice to tell the stories the way they want to tell them and your headcanons and fan-theories, while valid and certainly not without merit, they are not canon nor are they required to be and I feel it is disrespectful to the author, their editors and the creative team to try and tell them that they are somehow wrong for daring to tell the story the way they want to.
Great video man! you got yourself a new subscriber! It's really sad that the series that i've invested in for so long is being reduced to shipping war by these dudebros & fujoshis. That AI stuff also pissed me off to no end. There are many things that can be improved from MHA, but comparing Hori's artstyle to AI generated image is just a poor joke. But in the end, i'm grateful that i made friends with great people that enjoy MHA as i do. Chapter 431 left me smiling even harder than 430. I hope we dont have to see this type of controversy ever again
Midorya is given some of the best character writing as an MC and some of these fans try to make him as shallow as possible in their "hEaDCanNoN" by making him gay and wanting to be the #1 hero, even though being #1 was never his ultimate goal.
Him being gay wouldn't make him shallow but him treating becoming the greatest hero like this big competition and being a jackass like some headcanons do him definitely doesn't fit him.
He had it at first but then fell apart For your comment below, act 3 gave him little to no introspection, giving him 6 more quirks was a bad move imo, and a lot of the societal problems that needed fixing that he said to change still remain.
Those BKDK shippers trying to send death threats to horikoshi is just disrespectful, and tbh they would even be able to get off the couch and manage to fight horikoshi 😤✊
I loved the new chapter it gave me alot more than I wanted and I was glad that ochaco and deku was confirmed bro but people going crazy over Baku deku not being a thing is crazy like bro bakugo and deku could have never been together considering bakugo bullied midoriya for years like bro midoriya and ochaco being tg was hinted at some many times like I love my hero and what hirokoshi does but bro the my hero fandom needs to be stopped the shipping part of it
Really the shippers don't need to be stopped so much as every fandom in every space needs to have one fact continuously made clear. You can disagree with the direction of a story. You can absolutely vent about your frustrations to an audience willing to listen or a journal and it's also fine to expand upon that point and move into a proper discussion about genuine issues. However, it should always be understood that this is the author's story and the choices they make is up to them. We don't own the material, we have no say in any of this stuff whatsoever. Also some parts just don't matter. Shipping is not a major part of stories. What people believe to be playing to the shippers more often than not is just basic romantic tension being applied because ultimately shipping should be fun and lighthearted, not something taken so seriously.
I hate to sound like I'm defending the crazy, but sadly controversy sometimes helps boost up a series with more people learning about it , just look at "Drama Queen" for example
People are stupid. My rules on shupping are either: duh thats where they are going, like Tohru and Koboyashi from Dragon Maid for whatever polycule shit they got going on. Or whem the author give plenty of reasing between lines and it funner to see it that way. Like Bocchi x Kita or Hayasaka x Chika from Kaguya sama.
I haven’t watched MHA for a long time. I remember watching up to 2 seasons and yet I can see Izuocha coming from a mile away than I do with Bakudeku. Not that I predicted they’ll be together at the end because anything can happen but the hints were there. I’m not sure what Bakudeku people saw at the time that would make them a potential couple given how much of abusive Baku was to Deku at the start. Perhaps I’m missing something.
Tbh i partially Blame Hirokoshi for this as well If only he didn't write Izuku on such a Pushover and him continuously Praising Katsuki in every interaction they have we wont be having this Drama to begin with
you know I wasn't really surprised when they ended up together now see I knew this would happen it's been like what 8 years and they still act like babies
Why the heck did people think that a character that is a guy that HATES the other one is automatically a ship, like it’s not gonna happen because 1. Bakugo wants Izuku dead That’s literally it, I just don’t understand it
It's because of a few things. First, the relationship between the two develops quite a bit over time to where Bakugo doesn't really have that malice for Deku. He even admits that largely a lot of his anger towards Deku and why he bullied him was due to his own insecurities. Basically, while Bakugo's a hot-head? Now the two have a much more healthy relationship. Second and this is really trying to give the benefit of the doubt. A lot of relationships between two guys or two girls end up getting read as queer because with the supreme lack of those kinds of relationships in media due to both ingrained bias that's hard to unlearn among other things, in a way it's a comfort. A way of feeling seen even if the series doesn't necessarily reflect that. Third... it's just fun to a degree to pair characters and figure out how that dynamic would be.
@@Navokei Oh of course but that's crazed shippers in a nutshell. On its own shipping is like fandom pastime like theory-crafting or powerscaling. Perfectly harmless, really ultimately meant for fun and nothing worth getting mad about. Unfortunately we just always have people that will take things too far.
Bakugo and Deku shippers are just weird, they are the type to think they are different and quirky. 99% of the bad image mha community gets are from that type of "fan".
They're generally good people. Really this isn't a problem with shippers specifically so much as it's a problem with fandom in this current age where you have those who get so attached to pet theories and ideas that what starts as fun exercises quickly turn into obsessions and result in people being unable to engage with the story on what it provides and instead they want to engage it on how it doesn't provide what they dreamed up or spent hours discussing with like-minded fans. It's people being able to accept that they are not writers, editors or anything on this series and are not owed anything by the original author.
There are toxic shippers of all kinds, there are Bkdk shippers that can be cool and stay in their lane, so it's not about the type of shippers as much as if they are toxic.
I would like to prefis this by saying that I think you are cool and still are. I think this situation not your video is rage bait and Twitter algorithm’s fault pushing the most extreme opinions out there. SakuraxNaruto and IchigoxRukia fans were just as vicious back in the day. Heck I am sure NarutoxSasuke fans also said some nasty things But that’s just a given with shipping wars, look at any Harem best girl discussion. Or the Evangelion Rei, Asuka discussion. There’s always gonna be a loud minority of shippers that take things too far but in this rage bait economy it’s pushed by the algorithm and then the biggest responses are the nasty ones. If BakugoxDeku wasn’t a gay ship I don’t think things would be as serious as they are. If it was DekuxTsuyu most people would probably just find it funny and move on. I appreciate you saying not to gatekeep but I don’t appreciate “The getting queer baited by shonen losing chess to a dog comment” cause what are we doing here. How is this not exactly what you later said shouldn’t be done. I ship Ochako and Deku. I never liked BakugoxDeku. I always disliked it. I am also trans and pan. It’s frustrating to be an MHA fan and seeing the reaction to a loud minority of shippers doing what they have always done and be a little crazy. It’s not that I disagree that what they did was wrong but it’s the inconsistency in targeting. Why is this ship reaction getting scrutinized but not the others that are just as vicious? Why do people care so much about this one and not the others. I am not calling everyone criticizing the reaction Homophobic but I think what happened is that MHA is for a younger audience that isn’t familiar with how shipping works and putting a spotlight on the gay ships makes seem crazy especially if you ignore others reaction and some people use it to hide homophobia cause of course they would and they are the ones scouring the Internet or fabricating tweets for everyone to see. If you know about 4chan and GamerGate you will know it happened and still happens. TL;DR you are cool, it’s frustrating how the anime community has a double standard towards gay ships when straights can be just as if not more vicious. If what you want is for people to not be upset about getting queerbaited by a shonen manga dont call them stupid and tell them that while you are against gate keeping and are fine with wishing for stuff you should go somewhere else if you want queer representation. Imagine saying that about a female representation, poc representation, disabled representation. “All the fans The fans that wished Deku to lose his arms for disabled representation your expectations not being met is like losing chess to a dog. You are stupid. Blah blah blah” Like I said you are still cool, I don’t hate you, I am gonna continue watching you cause you make good content and I value your opinion. I just have a disagreement with you on the Internet. Have a good day, afternoon or evening.
Great comment With regard to the "losing chess to a dog" comment. I think the thing with Queerbating and why I feel it happens more in Shonen Manga is that it actually be intentional. Like it would not surprise me if there was an Editor or someone who says "hey don't forget to create a rival character that has sexual tension with the main guy so we can sell this to the Fujos." Like I'm not saying that eventually (or maybe one already did that in the past) there will be an author who is down to write an actually compelling Queer love story or at least won't settle for doing the most obvious romantic pairing with the Mc. But you know, statistically speaking, the odds have never been great, and thats a real shame.
"Why is this ship reaction getting scrutinized but not the others that are just as vicious?" Because it's most relevant to the topic. Plain and simple. Frankly, I've never gotten this whole "What about these guys?" line of questioning because to ask that generally tends to be done in bad faith i.e. people want to distract and turn the attention away from what's going on and towards something else. It is irrelevant to bring up other toxic reactions by those towards ships here because this is focused primarily on the reaction to the final chapter by those who think their ship not being canonized is enough of a reason to be a clown online. "If what you want is for people to not be upset about getting queerbaited by a shonen manga dont call them stupid and tell them that while you are against gate keeping and are fine with wishing for stuff you should go somewhere else if you want queer representation." To be frank, this is not going towards those who are genuinely mature cool people. This is being directed towards those that are melting down over just an author making the story they want to make. If you are a BakuDeku shipper that is not among those sending threats to Horikoshi? It takes seconds to stop and go "Hang on a minute, I'm not the people who are being referred to." and then you go about your life. Frankly, no one should be under any obligation to hold these people's hand, especially not in 2024 where by this point, I think every fandom should be sick to death of toxicity like this and it is toxic. It's one thing to be disappointed. It's one thing to feel queerbaited and there are conversations one could have. But, to attack the author and have a meltdown for the story daring to go in this direction and not a direction they were no obligation to go down? Frankly, their opinion is void and they are not serious people.
@@smhfirebruh5630wait a sec I never thought about like that lol. Honestly I don’t think that was what any of authors mentioned in this video meant to do but giving the Mc a rival with sexual tension to sell more copies if smart af and I’m saying this as someone who doesn’t even like Yoai but that’s a very smart business tactic.
I wanna say that I, personally, feel that Izuocha and BakuDeku SHOULDN'T have been cannon. Sure, Izuocha was widely considered cannon, but the fact that Izuocha borderline becoming cannon was the division of the series, strikes me as incredible. I'm saying this as a BakuDeku shipper; Neither was a good ship to end on. 9 years!? NINE GODDAMN YEARS!? You expect me to believe that Ochaco held onto that crush, much less, if Izuku did like her, Izuku did too!? I think that the setup for either one becoming cannon was so poorly set up, that either one becoming cannon was a bad idea from the start. Sure, both ships had some backing to it. Katsuki letting Izuku get close to him and seeing his emotions that people like Kirishima, his best friend, didn't see. Ochaco and Izuku were a healthy relationship, and blushing. (I guess. In my opinion, the backing for Izuocha is very small) But, either becoming cannon was the division for the series. Izuocha and BakuDeku are so divided on their views of who Izuku should have been better for, that making either cannon was the worst angle to go with. I don't care your excuse for thre@ting Horokoshi to make either cannon, both were a bad note to end on. Again, NINE GODDAMN YEARS!? I am NOT holding onto the idea that if that ending was cannon, that Izuku and Ochaco held onto feelings. Not even from a realistic standpoint, from a Horokoshi standpoint too. He understands relationships, and put that into his work. Look at Katsuki. His issues are dealt with like a HUMAN, and not a drawing. He doesn't apologize and stop being the blunt and the rude man he is. He is still like that, but calls Izuku, well Izuku. He worked on Katuski's issues like they were issues and not some hurdle to jump over and have it fixed. I think that Horokoshi left it on a note of a maybe either would have been cannon in either ending, just so either community would have been happy. I have the HUGE belief that if Himiko (Toga) didn't d13, TogaChaco would be cannon. Just watch the episode or read the manga, and you'll see why I think that. Also, the ending is a what-if scenario. Horokoshi stated that the cannon ending is the ending he originally made (I think he knew that borderline confirming either or ship would have DESTROYED MHA as a series) There is so much more I can and want to say, but I am in social su1c1d3 by writing this in the first place. I have so much more that I, also, can't word, as well, but I may say more on my socials. I am a BakuDeku shipper. Me, and my BakuDeku shippers, will ship BakuDeku all we want. I didn't want it to become cannon for the soul reason that it wouldn't make it fun. Speculating on their relationship was the fun part, not them becoming cannon. If you ship Izuocha, BakuDeku, TogaChaco, KoChaco (Katsuki and Uruaka), you can. Both endings set up a world where either would be cannon in some way, and I think that's a win in my book. Again, I didn't want BakuDeku to be come cannon, it would have been nice, but the fact of the matter is that both communities are so divided that Izuocha or BKDK becoming cannon would have been bad for both communities. (Yes, I mean if Izuocha is cannon, it would have been bad for both Izuocha and BKDK) Please no hate, this is an opinion from a kid who analyses things way too deep. This is MY (MY, MY, MY, MY, MY!!!!!) opinion NOT (NOT, NOT, NOT, NOT!!!!) yours, and I think that this is a very put together thought on the whole situation from both perspectives. If you don't agree, write an essay, but I won't read it unless it has good points. If it's just "Izuocha is better because BLUSHING and CUTE" I'm going to see it as that, and I won't read it past the first paragraph. Again, I may talk more after the fact about my side of the situation, but you can agree or disagree. Not my problem if you impulsively reply with a thing that is accusing me of this, that, and the other. -Alex_Lennyboo (I am going to be doing this for all paragraphs I write from now on)
If you don't mind me throwing my hat into this ring, there is to a degree some precedent in the real world for unrequited feelings sticking with a person well past their childhood and how sometimes due to circumstances, that relationship ends up happening. Admittedly this logic is a bit flimsy because obviously we don't live in the world of fiction where this is super common or fate is a thing but this is present. As for the more important parts? Here's my two cents. "I think that Horokoshi left it on a note of a maybe either would have been cannon in either ending, just so either community would have been happy." That is a fair point to make. Certainly leaving things open and vague would've allowed for that and there was indeed nothing to say either relationship should be canonized or that they were important factors of the story. Definitely if one reads all of MHA, it's clear the focus is more on Deku's developing relationships in terms of how friendships evolve and dynamics change such as how his rivalry with Bakugo goes from the kid being pretty hostile towards our innocent green boy and shifts into more of a healthy but intense rivalry. That being said, Horikoshi is under no obligation to do something like that to satisfy the communities. He's an author writing a story and if in that story he wants to include something like this? That's his perogative and is to be respected. Part of the deal with shipping is that it should be done with this idea that you are doing so for fun and keeping in mind that the storyteller at any point could go off in any direction. The same goes for fan theories and any speculation. It's fun to come up with scenarios but they are just that, scenarios we imagine because we are not the author and don't know where the story is going and with all due respect, an author is gonna write the story they want to write and everything about how Horikoshi spoke about this shows a man who had this idea in mind and chose to act on it in an epilogue chapter which brings me to another point. This is the ending of My Hero Academia and is fully canon. You may not like that and you are totally free to think so. Honestly, I don't see any version of an MHA ending existing that will totally please everyone because every fan to a degree has their own desires, varying degrees of investment and more. Much like how for years Dragon Ball's ending has been contested, it's certainly not surprising that MHA's might be. That being said, this is the ending. We got the ending of the story with 430 while 431 is an epilogue, a "Where are they now?" kind of ending where we take a peek into the future and see how things have been. It was Horikoshi's gift since he got to see a serialization all the way through to an end he's happy with. It is canon. You can headcanon your own ideas for a personal ending but that has to come with the acceptance that this is the ending as made by the author who is looking to do this in a way he feels is satisfying, not something that will do the impossible and please everyone and this is because to be blunt? That is a losing battle that should NEVER be engaged in. Fans are the customers, they are not editors, they have no say in how a story is told and frankly it should stay that way. It's one thing to be disappointed that certain developments did or did not come to pass but far too many times now, fans have let their investment in pet theories and so on mutate to where they stop being thought exercises but rather this foregone conclusion that has to happen whether it's characters needing to be more important than the purpose they serve in the story or in this case, ships needing to play out the way they want them to which leads to conflating what is simply the author making what they feel is the best decision for a story as them ruining the story when there's nothing to suggest that their pet theories were ever considered. Which brings me to a big point. Shipping has NEVER been an inherent focus of MHA. The fans have almost consistently made this more of a deal than it actually is in the grand scheme of the story and frankly confirming any ship unless it's something as completely off-the-rails as "Mineta X Zombie Midnight" was never going to destroy the series. At worst, it would only cause of fans to melt down once they realize a ship they like has now no chance of happening even though, to be blunt, there was NEVER a promise that it would happen in the first place and if they really wanted to see this explored? Oh lord does fanfiction have them covered and if they don't like what's on offer? They can just write their own fanfiction. Speaking from my own perspective, this works because it's something that has been hinted at since the very early days of MHA. It was never really acted upon I felt because MHA's big focus is on how what was supposed to be just kids being allowed to do kid stuff as they learned to use their powers had to be pushed aside as circumstances kept getting more dire and these guys were forced to basically grow up and behave more maturely on a whim. Hell, it's why one arc is about trying to make sure a festival can happen because it's the one time they can just put something nice on, get a break from the madness and hopefully give an abused little girl a moment to just unwind. IzuOcha or BakuDeku? I didn't care which got canonized. Deku didn't have to end up with anyone, I care about the writing and if it feels like a satisfying end to their arcs and in this scenario? I'm happy he ended up with Ochaco because it feels right. It plays right along with how, at this moment, they can just live peaceful lives and focus on this aspect that has always been unresolved thanks to the continuously ramping threats. I genuinely do not care if the shipping communities are divided because frankly, no duh they were gonna be divided. Media will always divide people on some aspects and it is not up to an author to please everyone. To me, it's important for fans when crafting theories or ships to always remember that a story in development is not shackled to these potential ideas and that it's crucial not to get too attached to certain ideas so that way you are engaging with the narrative as presented by the author and NOT the narrative you constructed for the series.
Uraraka had survivors guilt from Toga saving her life and becoming a workaholic. She didn't think she should move on to what she really wanted, but the dream from Toga helped her to. It actually make sense as a trauma response that she buried herself into work. It's not like she dropped her crush, she just decided to prioritize work over herself which is realistic. Uraraka didn't love Toga that way, she never said she loved Toga. Deku wanting to save Shigaraki parallel Uraraka wanting to save Toga. She cared about Toga, just not romantically.
It was bad. Idgaf about Izuocha I wanted to see cool things, I wanted character spreadsheets, I wanted to see Deku's dad, I wanted cool stuff. I didn't care about ships, I cared about real world building that they had just left out during the show. I do feel like Bakugou was shafted and that they could have made Izuocha a LOT more fluid in getting together. They would be a great couple if they had built it up since they hadn't really focused on them at all. She could have been a bigger character than Shoto and had a real love arc with Izuku but instead they decided to focus on Bakugou which is nice, but if there is going to be romance, stop pairing the MC up with his best friend and pairing him up with her. Also Deku is very out of character and he would not be leading the pack when they are going out to fight. The ending was bad but it had so much potential to be good. (Also RIP Bakugou he seemed so depressed)
Why do we need to see Deku's dad? He has no character in the story, no purpose to this narrative beyond being a part of Deku's history but otherwise is not important to his story. As for cool stuff? We got that during the actual finale whereas this is more of an epilogue. It's basically like Dragon Ball's time-skip chapters. The story is over but we're getting one last moment to see how everyone changed and evolved and one last moment to say goodbye. Also I'd say they did build up the pairing with all the hints, it's just that it didn't play a part in the main story. We got to see them bond as friends before they took that next step and as nice as character spreadsheet details are? That's not the story and to me, a finale should focus primarily on wrapping up arcs with our characters in meaningful and impactful ways, not on filling out details that honestly are better reserved for guidebooks.
@@the-aspiring-creator4249 Cause the open-ended ending was super good as no one cared about ships, it let people make what they wanted in their head about the story, and people had been asking for Izuku's dad. It's a very shit ending since it ended with a ship ( even though it didn't become cannon ) it is also getting a bunch of autistic 14 year olds hated on for no reason since they like bakudeku since "IT'S NOT CANNON SO YOU CAN'T DO THAT" and back when I was a shipper, I got death threats from izuochas and it really turned me off the fandom. The ending was bad, it doesn't wrap anything up, and doesn't make sense.
@@Nik-Minecrafter I'm sure some people have but frankly that's not an important thing to include. Again, Deku's dad is not a character, he has ZERO importance to this story. Bringing him in would honestly either open up questions or would just be plain pointless. As for the ending? This is an epilogue, plain and simple. A little addendum to show where everyone is in the future and also to pay off a few things such as Deku and Ochaco getting together since now there's no major threats to deal with and the two have so blatantly been shown to care about one another, now it's official. It's not a shipping thing so much as it's a "the author just is going for what they felt was the obvious and honestly quite fine decision" thing and frankly, it shouldn't matter what shippers do. Crazed fans exist in every fandom who make mountains out of the DUMBEST of molehills.
@@Nik-Minecrafter Also you don't know Izuku. You are a fan who reads the series. I'm dead certain Horikoshi, the man who created MHA and the guy who wrote this chapter would have an inkling on what Izuku would do. It's just it doesn't fit with YOUR idea of Izuku which is not the same as what Horikoshi's is. To say it's out of character is bizarre because for one thing, this does line up with what we've seen Deku do before and also, it takes place in the future where these guys have years of growth that we're just now seeing.
Few things from me this week:
1: One of the main reasons I did not put a bunch of community tweets in this video was to avoid any type of targeted harassment. I do not condone any of it and please don’t use this video as a means to do so
2: Be civil, it’s not hard
You get thousand points for havin said "this medium". FINALLY somebody knows how to decline that word!
Should be "that gave, to you, more to be loved", not "more to love". "More" isn't doin the lovin, it is receivin it.
True, It's funny to see how INSANE these shippers are. 😭
These shippers would be terrifying in real relationships.
Really well said
Adored the final chapter. It worked for me on many levels. Despite everything, and all the controversies and everything of My Hero, I freaking adore this series and will always love it and hold it in good light. Forever among my favorite manga/anime 🔥
Ah, good to see you here too man. Since I don’t go around Fornever much anymore.
Man, Jump is starting to get scarce now recently isn’t it? 😭
Bro it's at a point where I'm just sad for Horikoshi. I don't know what he did to deserve the most toxic community of all time for such a good manga
Deku is not needed across the world, that's the point at the end that not one individual is needed but all are.
If it comes off the way, then that definitely was not my intention. My thought process is of similar to yours
@@YozakuraSensei oh my bad then!
@@Cyberlele02 No worries at all, just means I need to be careful with my wording! Thanks for watching
"Decorum be damned when agenda is on the line" So freaking true.
It's such a shame, considering what a great chapter this was yet all everyone is pointing to are ships
Yup such a shame
Story > Ships
Idc how people are I prefer stories like this
The entire point of MHA is what it means to be a hero.
Im just happy Izuocha is finally canon.
Me too
Fr it’s really nice to see them happy together at last
@@Asherrr-q4p it took 8 years but we got there.
Same.
I hope I don't come off as rude, but here are my thoughts:
Do you know how hard it is to find queer anime that are also action packed where the characters are not just cliché tropes or cardboard cutouts? Or one half of the BL ship behaves like every female Shoujo protag rather than a guy (I don't think I can express well what behaviour I'm talking about...)
I think us shippers gravitate towards the genres that write the most well-rounded, believable characters so we can actually care about that 'person' and their bonds.
They can't comprehend the concept of friendship because that crowd is full of chronically online people who have no friends in real life.
The real question is who is top uraraka or deku
It's crazy how a story can become about ships it's like they don't even care about the story at all
Bkdk and fujoshis lost, that's all I need.
The thumbnail is fantastic 👏 ❤
gatekeeping is not cringe it stops ppl from turning ur media into wat they want stop trying to turn shonen into shojo if the author wants to make the mc gay sure fine whatever just dont expect boys, ur targeted audience to read that shit, call it homophobic all u want but thats not gonna change the fact we dont want to read dat, dats wat shojo is for. we want sexy women we want fan service and if one finds it uncomfortable or objectionable then dont read it or try to change it to wat u want cus dats the reason gatekeeping exist, to protect the purity of intended media. the fact that people keep trampling male spaces and placating that they need to change while no one says anything about women spaces is repulsive, there shouldnt rlly be anyone encroaching on either especially in regards to works of fiction
Women spaces aren't homophobic. Of course it's only the male spaces that need to change.
Love the ending❤ love and respect hori's godly art❤
Thanks for talking about this and set the record straight on the Bs

It's really sad that the series that i've invested in for so long is being reduced to shipping war by these dudebros & fujoshis. That AI stuff also pissed me off to no end. There are many things that can be improved from MHA, but comparing Hori's artstyle to AI generated image is just a poor joke.
But in the end, i'm grateful that i made friends with great people that enjoy MHA as i do. Chapter 431 left me smiling even harder than 430. I hope we dont have to see this type of controversy ever again
But despite all controversies and all hate I'll forever love this series and will miss it
Midorya is given some of the best character writing as an MC and some of these fans try to make him as shallow as possible in their "hEaDCanNoN" by making him gay and wanting to be the #1 hero, even though being #1 was never his ultimate goal.
Him being gay wouldn't make him shallow but him treating becoming the greatest hero like this big competition and being a jackass like some headcanons do him definitely doesn't fit him.
He had it at first but then fell apart
For your comment below, act 3 gave him little to no introspection, giving him 6 more quirks was a bad move imo, and a lot of the societal problems that needed fixing that he said to change still remain.
@@jeffali5157 How?

Really the shippers don't need to be stopped so much as every fandom in every space needs to have one fact continuously made clear.
You can disagree with the direction of a story. You can absolutely vent about your frustrations to an audience willing to listen or a journal and it's also fine to expand upon that point and move into a proper discussion about genuine issues. However, it should always be understood that this is the author's story and the choices they make is up to them. We don't own the material, we have no say in any of this stuff whatsoever. Also some parts just don't matter. Shipping is not a major part of stories. What people believe to be playing to the shippers more often than not is just basic romantic tension being applied because ultimately shipping should be fun and lighthearted, not something taken so seriously.
its not that deep bro

I hate to sound like I'm defending the crazy, but sadly controversy sometimes helps boost up a series with more people learning about it , just look at "Drama Queen" for example
People are stupid. My rules on shupping are either: duh thats where they are going, like Tohru and Koboyashi from Dragon Maid for whatever polycule shit they got going on. I’m truly glad they ended up together ❤ I grew up with mha and love it. Don’t need hate man just chill
you know I wasn't really surprised when they ended up together now see I knew this would happen it's been like what 8 years and they still act like babies
@@khaliyahjefferson832who acts like baby’s
Why the heck did people think that a character that is a guy that HATES the other one is automatically a ship, like it’s not gonna happen because 1. Bakugo wants Izuku dead
That’s literally it, I just don’t understand it
It's because of a few things.
@ that makes much more sense, but some people are just pushing it
@@Navokei Oh of course but that's crazed shippers in a nutshell. On its own shipping is like fandom pastime like theory-crafting or powerscaling. Perfectly harmless, really ultimately meant for fun and nothing worth getting mad about. Unfortunately we just always have people that will take things too far.
@ sadly yes
Heck I am sure NarutoxSasuke fans also said some nasty things
But that’s just a given with shipping wars, look at any Harem best girl discussion.
Blah blah blah”
Like I said you are still cool, I don’t hate you, I am gonna continue watching you cause you make good content and I value your opinion. I just have a disagreement with you on the Internet. Have a good day, afternoon or evening.
I should say thank you for not showing Tweets or highlighting anyone as the problem. I understand the frustrations.

Great comment
With regard to the "losing chess to a dog" comment. I think the thing with Queerbating and why I feel it happens more in Shonen Manga is that it actually be intentional. Like it would not surprise me if there was an Editor or someone who says "hey don't forget to create a rival character that has sexual tension with the main guy so we can sell this to the Fujos."
Like I'm not saying that eventually (or maybe one already did that in the past) there will be an author who is down to write an actually compelling Queer love story or at least won't settle for doing the most obvious romantic pairing with the Mc.

General Zod: Never.
Horokoshi stated that the cannon ending is the ending he originally made (I think he knew that borderline confirming either or ship would have DESTROYED MHA as a series)
There is so much more I can and want to say, but I am in social su1c1d3 by writing this in the first place. (Yes, I mean if Izuocha is cannon, it would have been bad for both Izuocha and BKDK)
Please no hate, this is an opinion from a kid who analyses things way too deep.
-Alex_Lennyboo (I am going to be doing this for all paragraphs I write from now on)
damn it's been 8 years and people act like babies
😂
Uraraka had survivors guilt from Toga saving her life and becoming a workaholic. She didn't think she should move on to what she really wanted, but the dream from Toga helped her to. It actually make sense as a trauma response that she buried herself into work. It's not like she dropped her crush, she just decided to prioritize work over herself which is realistic. Uraraka didn't love Toga that way, she never said she loved Toga. Deku wanting to save Shigaraki parallel Uraraka wanting to save Toga. She cared about Toga, just not romantically.
Damn 💀 it's not that serious this is just sad an whole paragraph please the Lord have mercy on their soul.
Also Izuku would never do this, it's way out of pocket, and even though it's not cannon, no one seems to care (It's just a fanfic by Hori's team)
