So much tech for ‘87!! One piece at a time my friend. In 3 more months you’ll be shocked at how much you learned. My 3 daughters and I are building up my old YJ. And we are looking to hunt down and old Waggy. You started it ! That’s the first accomplishment
I know! I love this old thing. I always liked the YJs because of the square headlights. Kudos on getting them involved early! Hopefully you'll be able to find your own waggy and get to wrenching on that too. 🙂
Nice choice. Started the same thing a couple years ago. It was bone stock. Added a 4" lift and 33" tires. Also, just completed the Holley Sniper 2bbl EFI with the Holley Hyperspark distributor, firebox and coil. After playing with the tune, it runs great. Have an abundance of body work left to do.
The body work is definitely going to be last because it just needs to be mechanically sound before ill feel ready for that. It is a bit crazy just how long it takes to do these sort of projects but they are definitely worth it when they're done! Thank you 😊
Jason from Maryland here Need help sourcing parts or just need knowledge? I'm your guy! One half of American Cherokees USA (channel name). I work as a Parts Director at a restoration shop in the DC area, so it's my profession,...and I'm a Jeep nut. I subscribed and hit the bell! ...and your cats meow is catching my cats attention, lmao And don't burn it!
Thank you so much! Luckily there will be no burning of this thing any time soon. Although I need to post a new video soon, it's pretty close to done now! 🙂 and thank you for the heads up on parts! I'll have to keep you in mind
My 84 J10 caught fire on me back in 06. Been fixing it up ever since. The only suggestion so far that I have is from experience with my dad's 88 grand wagoneer. Clean and make sure all your grounds for your wiring are good. When you dive into the wiring that will help to improve some of the known issues these old beasts have!!!
Thank you! I've been making some steady progress in the last few months and my next video is almost done with another following shortly behind. I'm sorry that you had to deal with the fires that these FSJs are known for. The plan is to get it running enough to move it around under its own power, then to completely redo all of the wiring harnesses in it to be safe. 😊
This is great! You have a great starting point to work with!. I just bought a '83 Cherokee ( last year of the 2 door), and I'm jealous of your highly optioned Grandy. Mine is a basic Cherokee that was parked for 20 years after the brake lines rusted and blew out. I was considering trying to start a channel to document my build, but kinda busy with life. And yes, I've though about bailing out of it already too. I could probably get what I have in it once its running. First, I had to replace hyrdaulic lines ( it has a plow) so I can move it. Now I am putting on a Motorcraft carb so it can be driven to a nearby shop that I can work in. I still needs brake lines, ( like all of them,) and calipers and rear wheel cylinders and rubber, oh and a cleaning of the 20 yrs of squirrels and mice living in it. I'll be watching for more videos and updates on you progress!
Thank you so much! When I bought the Wag it was all original. I did have the lift and wheels and tired put on and the teardown started but life happened and it's been 4 years since then so thats why I'm starting off where I am now. It sounds like you have a helluva fun build too. I loved my friends 77 cherokee, it was what made me want to get this one! I do know that classic tube should have your brake line kit all prebent and stainless steel as thats where I got mine. Please keep me updated with yours! I'd love to hear about how it's going 😊
Hi Jesse, it looks like you have a solid vehicle to work with. My roommate and I are doing nearly the exact same build. He has a 77 Jeep Wagoneer and we are putting the entire sniper efi and ignition setup on it. We actually just go the edelbrock intake on it today and will be putting more stuff on this week. I want to have it running by the end of next week. We are recording it as well. I am looking forward to seeing more of your content.
Thats awesome! I love hearing about people rebuilding these. Im stuck waiting for a new skid plate for the fuel tank as mine was rusted to nothing. So that puts my build out probably another week or two 🙄 but I cant wait to watch your build progress!
I did manage to get one from someone in Texas that I found on a FSJ Facebook page. It took a while to get to me but its every piece and its solid. Now I just have to por15 it and get it all set up to finish the small touches
Take your shock mounts off in the front and inspect the frame, i can see the rust and 99% of these Jeeps rust behind the shock mounts. Mine was so bad, i could pull the mount off by hand and it had rotted the frame behind it under it, and behind that and cracked the top from being so rotten.. I had cut 90% of the frame out and weld in new sections.
Thanks for the heads up! The drivers side is definitely worse for wear than the passenger side so I will have to take that apart and really inspect it. I appreciate the comment! 😊
Hi from Tokyo. I have a ‘91 GW that I bought 2 years ago and currently sitting in a shop for 1and half years to get things repaired. I only have a little knowledge working on cars so I admire what you’re going to do on your GW. I always look for parts at bsj offroad, rocky auto or summit racing. Good luck with your project. Cannot wait to see yours finished!
Hello and thank you so much! I try to use Bjs as much as possible. I can only imagine how hard it is to find parts for you, not to mention how expensive it would be to ship them. Are you trying to keep your GW original? Good luck with your project as well! (:
Hi Jesse, greetings from Venezuela, there is a great family of these jeep, take care of it, you have a great project, good video and that your channel grows like foam, I'll be watching your videos
Thank you so much! I've always had a real love for the older jeeps so I couldn't pass this one up when I found it. (: are there many full size jeeps in Venezuela?
If there are many wagoneer around here there are face and instagram pages there are big groups here you have mine for face- TEAMWAGONEER and for instagram- @ teamwagoneer follow us
That has to be hard. Does bjsoffroad ship to you? I guess its the shipping costs that really mess with things though? I'm sure plenty of us FSJ people wouldn't mind shipping things out if it was cost effective for you! Are you on any of the Facebook pages or groups for these rigs?
