Mark is a hopeful hunter, a nervous hunter, and when successful… a lucky hunter. In other words, Mark is a real hunter. Thanks to MeatEater and Mark Kenyon for bringing us quality (real) hunting experiences to enjoy.
This is one of my favorite shows to watch. Mark puts himself in tough hunting situations for whatever reasons. But it’s better than some dude sitting over a bait pile or bean field only shooting booners. I appreciate the hell outta this show. It definitely shows what most of us hunt like.
My favorite thing about Mark is how seemingly bad he is at hunting deer, but still loves it. Lol. It's a nice change of pace to see someone else suck at hunting. Like when Steve goes, it's mostly a foregone conclusion there's an animal getting killed. With Mark, I'll be rooting for him and then he'll shoot a tree. Lmao. I love it.
lol was thinking the same thing with him wearing no gloves waving his hands all around chatting with his buddy while sky lit in a 6 inch tree. I laugh ever other scene with the lack of hunting sense, that's why mark is entertaining his inability to have any hunting senses at all.
@@robgrubb420 I think sometimes you put way more ability on a whitetail then they care about. 95% of the time they could care less about camo. I agree the movement is a lot but I find it hard to argue. A lot of deer get killed by people just walking around. But camo and gloves just make us feel better. That’s about it.
This is about the most realistic and relatable hunting show there is. This is real world hunting - not having 1500 acres of private land of unpressured deer that you can give bucks cute names and then watch them grow into the 190 inch class at your leisure. Thank you Mark for sharing your experiences with us!
@@pieceofparadise9338 You are correct that any wild deer is hard to hunt; even ones in suburban areas who are used to people, there would be a degree of difficulty. However there is no question that some deer in some areas are harder to hunt than others. For example, these deer in this video over deer on a giant, private farm owned by someone with the last name Drury or Lakosky.
@@kalmond1 So if you had the ability to buy a 1500 acre private farm in Iowa or Missouri with no fence you wouldn’t do it? I don’t know the drury’s or the lakosky’s personally but I do know they have dedicated all of their time and money to growing big bucks and they now make a living off of it. I’m jealous, and I wouldn’t call what they do leisure.
@@pieceofparadise9338Yes, I absolutely would buy 1500 acres and do what they do if I could. I'm not saying that at all. And what they do is far from leisure, you are very right about that. Having to manage and farm all that they do is a lot of work - more than what 99% of the rest of hunters do (myself included). But as far as realistic hunting, what they do compared to what was in this video as it relates to the common hunter (especially those that can only hunt public land) there is a big difference and that's why I say it's not real world.
Mark how you can regroup after a missed shot and then a poor shot but remain positive about it is amazing! Just shows that even the pros have off days but you can’t get down on yourself. Great video Mark and congrats!
People acting like it’s easy to go hunt in a brand new state/terrain and to hunt a way you haven’t before. Mark is only there for 3 days, it’s more difficult than we think plus he has the added pressure of the cameras being on him
I totally agree with B Radley's comment. Mark is a real hunter and I appreciate him showing the struggles and reality that is hunting and not just the show version where they get the big buck. True hunting, meeting good people, and exploring the land as well as the emotions is what it's all about. Great stuff Mark.
Excellent story, Mark. I love seeing your demeanor after a failure. It brings a regular guy realism to each video. Success is always awesome, too. Well done.
Mark did a great job keeping it real, being humble, and explaining his thought process to recover from a yanked shot. Smart guy, thanks for telling a good story, and keep practicing with your rifle.
This episode was like several of my hunting trips....see a buck or two pop up and no time for a shot...or never show vitals....although my tree shot was a broken scopes fault. But you got the deer....thats all that counts....great episode.
I’ve avoided climbing pines for a while. Had to climb one this past weekend because it was the killing tree. Had terrible connection with my sticks/stand, almost fell a bunch, and got my arms cut up but my first pine climbed got me my first deer of the season
Itd be really cool to have Clay & Mark Collab and do some hunts/content with the guys from SeekOne! Keep Killin' It, by far the best hunting, fishing & outdoors show out! Look forward to the new season coming up been a fan and watching since season one episode one!
This tour has been awesome. Mark is a class act and doing these hunts across the country have been awesome to watch. Mark does need to get a gun setup for these timber hunts in the future been hard watching him tramping around with that howitzer the last few videos.
In the pre rut bucks come back to primary scrapes constantly, once you’re in the breeding then it’s a crap shoot until post rut they’ll start hitting those scrapes again.
Just listen to an episode of the Wired to Hunt podcast ep. 201 where u had talked about all these adventures u r now filming years later. How weird and cool that this stuff is now coming together. Love what u and The MeatEater crew r doing, got me into hunting.
I really gotta give this guy some respect for showing what most shows dont. For the average hunter it's often more failure than success. When ya do get the shot and you think it's good you end up w and instance like this where is wasnt as good as you thought. It's not you clothes or equipment, tech or scent control. Its hunting and playing the cards your dealt. That's all most of us have. Not multiple farms and cel cams. Those few days you take off work hoping to get lucky.
It’s not like watching the hunting public I.e. no belly crawling, camping wherever possible, really getting crazy to find deer and get close. Mark should hunt with those guys. They’ll teach him a thing or two.
Bro, On that buck you missed once you identify its a buck get your gun up and ready forget the binoculars. Maybe its the editing but it looks like you him haw around alot. Anyway... really cool episode.
I would rather watch mark shoot a tree and a realistic public land deer than any big name hunter shoot a trophy off of a food plot!!! Excellent show keep doing what you’re doing Mark!
Any of you that think this guy isn’t a real hunter needs to rethink it. He has experiences that the rest of us have all had but don’t want anyone to know about. Mark just has his experiences, both good and bad, on film and isn’t ashamed to show it.
If i shot at a deer and missed a foot left, i would not put another shot on a deer until i verify that the rifle is accurate. Then his next shot was straight guts, either verifying that the rifle is not accurate, or that he is a piss poor shot. His poor ethics are something that he absolutely should be ashamed of.
Meat eater is my favorite hunting show to watch whether it’s clay Steve mark yannis or whoever they have on. It’s my favorite cause it’s not on no juiced up food plot or any high fence areas like a lot of the other shows you see.
Been there, huntrd public land all my life & yes get as far from the parking lots, trails, etc. to have success & kill any legal deer. I've also killed a tree when I first started bow hunting with an old PSE compound with wheels before cams where a thing. Congrats boys!
Mark first problem is waiting so long to get the gun up. You usually only get 1 or 2 good shooting options when you see a buck in the timber. Your first opportunity is usually your best.
Thats heart breaking to have a nice buck like that get away after all the set-up work. Been there, done that Mark. I feel for ya buddy. Better luck next time.
Y’all can say what you want but the man went to a place he’d never been, and that apparently has a low density with rare buck sightings, and wound up finding 5 bucks in under 3 days. Dude knows what he’s doing
You gotta do some tactical training for woods whitetail so you have to get up and on then and shoot.. staring at them for 3 minutes before actually getting your gun up will leave you with a real empty freezer..
I don't think it was wise to only wear an orange cap and then cover it up with your hood at a public land rifle hunt sitting on the ground. Alabama requires 144 square inches visible from all sides. It’s important to set a good example for the kids that look up to the meateater content.

Unpressured bucks mean they are wild. They act wild, they don’t like hanging around people. Which means they are also hard to hunt.

Encouraging to watch a great hunter like mark struggle and be honest about the challenges. Great reminder that every hunter is still learning

Never hunted a day in my life but I love these videos.
Meat Eater is the thing that pushed me into actually starting hunting. You should try it.
I’m not into hunting either but I like watching and learning about stuff I’d rather not go do myself
Honest portrayal of hunting - great stuff !
Great episode and thanks for keeping it real. We all have those moments where we make a mistake with a shot or things don’t go right.
I did, I was happy to see you were successful. 😃 I'm from Idaho, my Elk hunt begins October 10th. Wish me luck.
