When i started playing DS, i saw the endothermic campfire in the crafting thing and thought, "wow, blue fire, so cool". I then proceeded to freeze myself to death on the 6th day of fall.
shoulda payed attention in chemistry class. you'd have known fire is exothermic so endothermic fire would suck heat out of its surroundings rather than producing it.

Summer Irl just hot Summer in dst/the constant: FRICKING SO HOT, YOU DIE OF HEAT AND WILDFIRES SPAWN IN 2 SECONDS. Oh wait. That’s California. DST IS CALAFORNIA CONFIRMED
Hello Beard, I regret that I have not known your channel sooner, but I absolutely WANT to thank you so much for making this content! I have played DST for about 1-2 years & over the time I'm losing motivation to continue this game, UNTIL I found this channel! Your contents are motivating, your guides are super helpful, and your voice is amazing lol Right now I'm currently playing DST almost everyday & I always look forward to any new videos from your channel, so keep up the good work, you really deserved this credit!!
Amazing video! Only made it to summer once with my buddy and it's fun to see why all of these things that we experienced happen, like the crater randomly popping up in the ground due to some random ant lion in some desert area that we didn't even find yet in our world. Crazy upload schedule btw
Autumn is actually the easiest season. No environment problems, no overly scary mobs (aside from Beargar) and not really a lot to do except stockpile for Winter. I have always just "hibernated" in the Winter by stockpiling resources and abusing drying racks with the cold's 25% reduction to food spoilage, along with the ice box's additional 50%. My ideal base is always in the oasis with a nearby sinkhole. Using terraforming you could make a base that is very resistant to most forms of the game's methods of "attacks" and I say it's a very fair trade if all I have to do is watch out for Antlion. Since it doesn't rain often in the desert, chances of frog rains and lightning damage (unless you are fighting the goats) are also very much so reduced.
There was a lot more content covered in this video than I anticipated, bravo. This is a game I've kind of muddled through on my own without looking up much in the way of help or tutorials, but since summer is the only season I've never successfully survived on my own, I decided it was time to stop dying to trial and error. I had no idea about the Ant Lion, the blueprints shown in the video, or Ice Chester, so I'm really glad I didn't let summer pass me by (or kill me) without taking advantage of and preparing for some of the opportunities available in the summer. Great video.
Yo man, all respect again for your series ! I absolutely enjoy and I can't wait over and over for a new video... wished I could watch 10-20 videos about 10mins a day, honestly.
you're on fire with the videos recently Beard, take a break if you need it friend we get it(not that i dont appreciate the contents, but i worry for your condition knowing how hard these are to make)
I usually use floral shirt and ice chester, stone combo. No overheating for a whole day! Not to mention you can store floral shirt inside ice chester so it lasts for almost whole summer!
The desert stones not only look cool while you channel the deserter, but if a friend channels it, you can right-click the stones to teleport to the channeled deserter from anywhere in the world. Because of this, you don't need two deserters to be able to teleport, but using the stones does consume them in the process, so I advise you to stack up on them during summer.
Wow I wasn't expecting the summer one so soon, but thanks so much. I fear summer the most out of all the seasons.. I think because I've done it the least, I mean winter is rough but I have far more experience dealing with it! Great to hear your clothing recommendations for spring and summer too! Ice cube was my clothing of choice but it really isnt optimal with the wetness. Deerclops hat is nice but trouble is I normally play multiplayer with 2-3 of us, so we have to use other options to keep us all safe :D
This really helped me! Thanks beard, you really are helpful. I love you and everything you do! I really hope you do another DST stream soon or make a new server so I could join you.
I found out that I had all the resources necessary for an endothermic fire, only after dying from heat. The straw hat and hiding under trees eventually became useless 😂
The wetness in summer is actually arguably a good thing. It keeps you cool naturally, then the ice cube itself will provide insulation. Its to the point where you can't overheat with that worn unless you are standing near fire. using it with a backpack to keep your food and tools with so it don't get wet. And you are set. Ice is very easy to stockpile as well, either store it in an icebox and it will never melt. Give it to a moleworm near by and shovel its burrow when you want the ice back. Or giftwrap, or bundlewrap. A lot of different ways of storing in all the seasons, for summer. As for the -10% speed loss, I find that to be rather small and there are ways to boost your speed, like the walking cane or even the thulecite club, that gives 10% speed boost causing you to break even. And like I said before, the wetness keeps you cool. You can swap out into a football helm to kite and fight then switch back when you need to travel. There ya go, you are set.
I agree, except that people are AWFUL at dealing with sanity. That is always a complaint I see no matter the topic of the video so it is why I just mention the downside regardless!
Catch 9 butterflies, plant them 3x3. catch 11 bees. drop it in the middle. That there will constantly spread flowers passively. Sanity. boom. done. total cost 4 silk 6 grass 8 sticks. benefit. last resort hound protection, easy petals for rot garlands or manure. If that is too slow, add more bees. works for every player in the game. I completely get it, but for me I never use ice flingomatics for my base, except near my farms to keep them hydrated and growing. If I ever see smoldering fires, you can snuff it out with manure for -0 hp from putting it out, if the fire is already burning. an ice staff for moderate fires. failing that, water balloons can put out fires really quickly. All I do is carry those around. You never mentioned that as an option, the wetness from them can also cool you off. I just want to bring as much info to as many people as I can, I hope someone will read this and find any of it useful. Not meant to be a comment on anything with you.
Bear can please do an ideal let’s play of dst so that we can see ideal setups in actual games Maybe like a series that can run until you do everything in dst or at least most things. It would be very useful
pro tip: switch out thermals before they fully lose their heat / cold ; on the point now i usually spend only about 12% (1tick) on it's durability in summer/winter :)
Before watching many of your guides I would usually die after only 10 days or so, but now that I have watched your video's I managed to survive a full year and kill bearger.
beard this would have been more helpful last week when me and my friends died losing 75 days, which isn’t impressive, unless ur with teammates who dont kno what they are doing and neither do i lol
My first dst summer was having red hounds burn down our entire base because we didn’t prepare. I later died to an antlion crater because I didn’t know what to do.
I have to wonder where on the planet or planet-like body of Don't Starve the game actually takes place. In the winter, it's cold enough that you can die pretty easily of hypothermia, and it snows constantly, which on Earth tends to mean quite far north. In the summer, it's hot and dry enough that you can die pretty easily of hyperthermia and everything catches on fire, which is typically seen near or within the tropics. What sort of a tilt does that planet _have?_
I've been saying that shadow chester is better than ice chester for a while now, and after not realizing you can use it to cool thermal stones... I take it back
Personally I find for summers overheating you just need the items from previous seasons Your umbrella from spring and your thermal stone from winter Just get a endothermic fire and maybe use your boss crafts (eyebrella and luxury fan)
I love summer DST. Dry and comfy. Usually if I join in the summer I will get 3 twigs and 1 petal Whirly Fan then collect 12 grass to make straw hat. Welp, maybe not so needed if go in cave but its really useful doing summer challenge. (And straw hat can be miner hat later)
Another thing you forgot to mention- The ice flignomatic needs fuel at some point. When it has done its job well, then after a time you need to enter ice or other items in it to give it fuel (Otherwise it won't work) I normally have Glommer at that time and he drops Glommer's Goop, which is veryyyy useful in the summer, since when you have an empty Ice fligno and you fuel it with 1 Glom's goop it restores half of the Ice fligno's power! Love your videos btw :)
Hi Beard, thanks always for the great guides. Just wondering, is it faster to cool down a thermal stone in the ice box or endothermic fire? Or they are just equally as fast to cool down?
Just imagine a planet earth episode of the desert and the narrator just being like "The blistering heat is unbearable, yet during the summer its chill m'dude".
Aah Summer .... I managed to fail summer even with rollbacks. Let's say that it didn't matter how many times i turned back on time, i would die in a different way on the same day. Hunger, sanity, hounds, fire or heat. So we gave up and decided to start over.
Although I Don't Agree That The Entire Oasis Biome Should Be Smoulder Free But Because Of The Sandstorms That Go On In The Desert Parts, It Makes Sense That It Wouldn't And The Actual Oasis Is Magical Because Of The Fishing Pond That Activates At The Beginning Of Summer, So That Smouldering Doesn't Happen In The Actual Oasis Kinda Makes Sense
I have a few questions: What are you using to show the range of your ice machine and also the grid system you have? How do you have so many different skins for many items, cooking pot, ice box, the ice machine, etc? (DLC or mods)
Im a newcomer too ,but watch tutorials A LOT on DST. So I just play A LOT. And watch tutorials. But if you die you learn. Like I learned to never eat a mandrake when Wicker, and to don’t mess with frogs early game.
