    I have had mine since 2012 and it still works great. I have two shepherd dogs and it really sucks out the dog hair! I also like the way it drives as well as it's light weight.

      Same…and we have two huskies…hardwoods and carpet. Doesn’t do well on large particles.

  • @dionjohnson4376

    They only say to turn off the brush bar so it doesn't risk damaging delicate hard floors so for nearly all hard floors you can have the brush bar on. The standing mechanism isn't bad it's just your not used to it and you can't really judge part quality/design until it has stopped working, you were just taking guesses!

    One of the main complaints in this video would have been alleviated had the reviewer simply read the manual. The video states that 'Dyson recommends turning off the brush bar for hard floors'. While that may be true for other models, that is NOT the case for the DC50. I'm looking at the manual for it right now (available on the Dyson website) and it shows in pretty, simplistic pictures that you're supposed to leave the brush ON for carpet and hardwood floors and turn it OFF for rugs with tassels/frilly edges. The whole point of the carbon fiber bristles is to help release particles from hard floors. You defeat that when you turn the bar off. It's the same concept used in Dyson's handheld models with power heads.
    CNET has the responsibility to amend this review and stop spreading misinformation.

    And also you are meant to use brushes on hard floor that's why it has carbon fibre filaments there to help improve with fine dust pickup and stiff nylon brushes for carpeting

  • @davidbergstraesser5520
    @davidbergstraesser5520 10 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    ...where do I begin with this video? First, if she would have read the manual she would have known that you ARE supposed to use the brushes on hard floors. It only recommends disabling them if you are afraid that your hard surfaces will become scratched. Second, it's polycarbonate and not plastic. Third, I'm sorry you don't feel confident but that's why Dyson gives you a five year warranty ya know, just in case your lack of confidence gives you a lack of confidence. Show me another vacuum company that gives you a five year warranty.
    I'm sorry, but please remove this review. It does nothing but make your website look bad CNet.

      Justin H. Carbon fiber actually. It’s soft so it won’t scratch your hard wood floors. I have this on the v10. It works fine. It’s not plastic at all

    • @justinhu8
      @justinhu8 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      He's referring to the cheap quality of the plastic that the reviewer referred to. Dyson uses polycarbonate plastic to build their vacuums -- no different to many other vacuum brands. The carbon fiber bristles are another topic entirely

  • @johnd4273
    @johnd4273 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    All the issues raised are very valid and an honest review IMO. Not sure what vacuum clearer some have been using as it might be a different model.
    I have noticed there are a large amount of broken red bin catches now available as a part. The other issue is the bottom bin clip breaks off but the bottom bin flap is not a spare part. You have to buy a complete bin! As far as operation of moving to the upright position, is a bit hit and miss so I always push the feet down with my foot which seems to work all of the time. The head on this model does not have height adjustments like on the DC40, DC41 and DC55. Looks to be a step backwards. Great for suction and versatility as a vacuum cleaner.
    I give it 4 stars let down by none adjusting head height, longevity of the bin catch and bin bottom catch. The review is honest.

    You can lower the handle too when its stood up right and not in use,all you do is press that red button thats at the back of the turn on one and the brush one then it slides down does the handle then its not as tall its just a little taller than the carrying handle but not much.

  • @spod2998
    @spod2998 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The dc-50 is meant to have its brush bar on during hardfloor cleaning simply because it has carbon fiber filaments meant for hard floors. Plus, other companies are using stupidly designed cyclones that have no effect.

But I thing that it is just fine. The wheel are perfectly fine on my dc50 Maybe was yours broken in manufacturing? Oh and your right the locking mechignisam isn't very good. Who even spills Cheerios on the floor and when you clean large partials your supposed to use the hose with the crevice tool. Instead of Cheerios try flour and sugar on the floor more realistic and As for the pet hair who has big huge clumps of hair on the floor like that. My locking mechanism works fine after 3 months.
    And if you notice she also fails to mention the 5 year warranty and the life time washable filters. But I do agree it's a VERY flimsy machine.

    The reviewer Katie does not understand some of the features of this vacuum and is clearly uneducated on the use of vacuums. She does not understand the Dyson technology or its uses. She starts by saying it is a "steep price tag compared to other vacuums"... compared to what. A Kirby? which new are around $1700, or a Wal-Mart Black Friday Dirt Devil at $25? Initially, she is trying to vacuum Cheerio's from the floor? The Dyson has a EXTENSION hose and tool for that purpose. The Dyson vacuum head is designed to adjust to floor and carpet height for a tight suction. On flooring, the head is used to pick up small dirt and dust particles. She fails to mention the Dyson has a 5 year warranty on parts and labor, and lifetime washable filters. So, if that wheel she talks about did in fact fall off, it wouldn't cost anything to replace it or any other "design flaw" she mentions. This can save on average $50 or more per year in normal costs associated with owning a bag less vacuum, not to mention any costs associated with normal wear and tear on the vacuum. The DC50 also comes with a tangle free upholstery tool you cannot find with any other vacuum on the market. Just my thoughts.

  • @cuddles6938

    4 to 600 for a vacuum and yet the CR magazine dudes said OTHER vacuums cleaned way better then the Dyson model. It reminds me of people buying a Bentley for $380k USD and guess what, it averages 13 miles per gallon!

  • @BedboundME
    @BedboundME 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    CNET is tarnishing its reputation with sloppy reviews like this.
    A big selling point of this vacuum is its carbon bristles which a) means it cleans dust from hard floors better & b) means going from hard to carpet surface is q doddle as there's no manual adjustment of any sort required. The brush bar is only turned off on extremely delicate surfaces for this model. Getting that fact so wrong and then complaining about performance based on your error disqualified this from being soon expert review.

  • @TheLumberJacked
    @TheLumberJacked 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    There are so many things wrong with this video. The brush SHOULD be on when used in hard floors....that's the whole point of the carbon bristles. 2 with most vacuums on a hard surface you should use the wand feature. The dc50 was designed to have a constant seal with the floor, this is why it doesn't kick out fine debris when used with the brush. Watching 5 scenes of you pushing stuff around on the hard floor without the hard floor is frustrating because this was reviewed out of ignorance.....
