    I would like to have heard more about the FAA aircraft certification progress. What are the contingency procedures in the Joby for critical systems failures? What happens if a motor fails? What happens if a propeller gets stuck in a horizontal or non-vertical position? Does the aircraft then have to land like a conventional airplane? If so, where? How much battery reserves (time) does it require at its planned landing time? Lots of questions. Hopefully the answers are coming…?

    Carbon fiber manufacturing is cool, but it’s been around for 50 years and not exactly new tech or this aircraft. Same with flight simulators.
    I was hoping they spend more time on the stuff I was really curious about, but they rushed through it. How exactly is it quieter, is it spinning slower? Is it the blade tips? How quiet is it? Like what are the decibels? How many engines can it loose and still fly? How about when it’s hovering? I have lots of doubts because on my small drone, any engine failure causes it to flip and fall out of the sky. I would love to have seen test video to prove it can still fly with those failures.

    • @charliedoyle7824
      @charliedoyle7824 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      It sounds like a big leaf blower or giant electric weed trimmer, like a big air whoosh with an electric whine. There is no big helicopter thumping or airplane engine noise that travel so far. When it flies overhead at 1000 feet it's pretty quiet; probably barely audible when it's windy. When it's taking off and you're nearby it's not so quiet, but much better than normal aircraft. They manage it with redesigned wingtips of the props and spinning them slower. They can do that because they have lots of propellers providing lift. Electric propulsion systems are also inherently quieter than reciprocating engines.
      Joby has fewer propellers than other EVTOLs, so they may have less redundancy. Most have eight props, some even more.
      Joby can lose all engines and glide in if it's within glide-reach of a runway or field. It can lose one engine for sure and still land vertically. I have to think it could lose two and land vertically, but I'm not sure if it can lose two front engines on the same side. It can probably lose over 50% of its engines and land horizontally like an airplane.
      Having six tilt propellers plus wings with three-axis stability and sophisticated control systems and software make it nothing like hobby drones.
      These electric motors also are double motors, with two separate windings in one unit. If one unit fails, it powers it's other unit, and doesn't miss a beat. Other EVTOLs have double props hooked to one unit, one on top and the other below it. They all also have three or more battery arrays with three or more different controllers that should fail for different reasons. These things are far more redundant than any other aircraft. And electric propulsion is far more reliable and needs less maintenance than conventional propulsion systems.

    Needs to be simplified. The Chinese already have a 2 passenger autonomous version of this. Contrary to what some people below are saying autonomous air taxis are the wave of the future. Why drive, when you can fly everywhere.. The vast majority of Americans don't go more than 40 to 50 miles in a day, so a pay to play autonomous air taxi will eventually replace most cars and roads. Autonomous air taxis and humanoid robots are coming soon and about to change everything...

    Yesterday in London, I sat in my room looking at the sky, with a huge beautiful post full moon. There were two or three helicopters ruining the sky. I sat there and watched the perfect Oct night looking at the sky, empty blue, memorising with it's space that is free for everyone. Then I thought we are approaching the era when it is about to end.
    The human race must and will progress. But in that progression we also lose much. And the days that the night skies are filled with these things are something I look forward to with utter dread.

    That sound test was a different model with different motors that had gears and it crashed. The new craft is different and doesn't have gears. The sound will be different and louder if its carrying a load. Empty would be quieter but that shouldn't be the test.

    • @TheBagOfHolding
      @TheBagOfHolding 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @David0gden how much weight is it carrying and how long does it stay in the air? Take a video of it if it's longer than 2 minutes because that's longer than joby ever shows. The sound doesn't matter if it can't lift the necessary load and move it somewhere. The more it lifts the louder it would be. I think joby is going to go down like a lilium if they don't prove they can move something somewhere soon. I know they can lift 1 man for at least a minute but is that it? Please take an unedited video of the entire time its airborne of it happens frequently and you are telling the truth.
