@SuperKeroGaming The similarities are largely due to the Roland CR-78 drum machine, which on the disco pattern preset is pretty much identical to In The Air Tonight. Not to say that Dave Wise didn’t intend for these similarities, as I think he may have commented about being a fan of Phil Collins at some point or wanting to get the SNES to sound like his music. But the preset drum line is really the only connective tissue, with the rest of Bayou Boogie sounding quite different.
That's largely due to david wise specifically trying to make this sort of music within DKC. Phil colins and other such artists of the era were huge influences on the DKC style of music according to him
It's the drums. Interestingly enough, though, the drum sound on this song was ripped off from Peter Gabriel's prior two studio albums, "Security" and "So."
@@Progger11Face Value was out before both Security and So. Collins, with Gabriel and Steve Lillywhite, developed the gated drum sound on PG's third album, Melt
IIRC Dave Wise once said in an interview that he used the same drum machine Phil Collins did for the intro to In the Air Tonight for the drum track of Bayou Boogie, hence why they sound very similar
my grandfather who i called papa just died a two years ago. when ever he took me fishing he would play this song and hearing this version it has me in just as many tears than the real thing
There's a reason why In the Air Tonight is one of my favorite songs and this game has one of my favorite soundtracks. They give off the same mysterious emotional vibes
This is so natural. I wish the drum breakdown could be more impactful, but you're doing the absolute best possible with the sounds available. This is the music for a dark cave where Diddy comes to face his greatest enemy...himself.
Feels a lot more mellow than the original. Different vibe, not bad. Natural. Completely agree. Sets it apart from the original work enough to make me want to listen to both.
More dynamic range would have done it just fine. That's, in fact, one big reason that drum hits so hard in the original song. The drums are allowed to be louder than the rest of the music when they need to be. Dynamic compression prevents this from happening, particularly the brickwall compression on most (99% of) music today. Actually, having listened to the track, I retract my assumption that there's no dynamic range in this track. It's very dynamic. Honestly, though, I didn't even pick out the drum breakdown bit. I can't believe I'd missed it, but it just never happened!
It was interesting on Phil Collins' final tour: the beginning of In the Air Tonight sounded like Donkey Kong Country. It's almost like it was reverse inspiration.
considering david was a big phil collins fan, this feels like full circle, i can imagine this being some kind of lost demo tape where david was testing the hardware.
Reminds me of how mj had a track on sonic 3 (i think) that sounded like billy jean in the casino level. Love this games audio, nicely done. It is so relaxing
It's funny anytime I hear some of Phil Collins songs they remind it sounds similar to Donkey Kong Country Music. Maybe because both Phil Collins and Rare(company that helped make Donkey Country) are from England 😅
I could imagine that scene on Miami Vice except it's Donkey and Diddy. Which Diddy as Sonny just driving down the road thinking he just too old for this sh*t as they about to take on another of King K's schemes.
This is done so fucking well nobody else on the internet has done the dkc2 sound font as good as you I have searched and searched for another like this not happened yet please do more.
Awesome work! I feel that this sound driver worked well with this song. I can see why people only use sound drivers from the famous games, since THEY have more instrument samples.
I agree that was the drop. The part of the song everyone is waiting for, and that was the only letdown. The song was going really great other than that.
I want someone to to this with Pat Benatar's "We Belong". Look at me and tell me that song wouldn't fit perfectly in either a bramble or ship-mast level.
Christ gave his life so that you may live!!! Christ died FOR YOUR SINS, was buried, rose again the 3rd day. Accept that he's done this for you and you shall have everlasting life from he who is Life aka Jesus Christ!
I'VE BEEN SAYING FOR YEARS that the Bayou levels sound like the opening to this Phil Collins classic.

I said the same thing. When I was a kid and heard it come on the radio, I thought it was Donkey Kong Country
You and everyone else on the planet 😂
What makes this epic is that it totally could be part of the official soundtrack
Now I would like to hear Phil Collins's take on Stickerbush Symphony. 😄

@@ArexsisMakes HELLA sense~
Forest Interlude is basically a Phil Collins track already. You can overlay In the Air Tonight vocals on top of it and it sounds so good.
Actually Bayou Boogie is the song that has the best for this song in it, not Forest Interlude
I love how this song has been mashed with DKC2 more than once. It just fits the game so well for some reason
Not for some reason, it's because David Wise was heavily influenced by Phil Collins in the making of Forest Interlude
@@grayzee2976 That is so cool, thanks for the fun fact. No wonder why
@@grayzee2976 Was gonna reply with this interesting tid-bit, you beat me to it! XD
That'd be bayou boogie.
There's even a commercial for chocolate where a gorilla plays this on a drumkit
The original ALWAYS made me think of DKC2. This is perfect.
It's the drums.

Definitely needs that animal noises at the start to really capture the jungle feel. This is really nice❤️❤️❤️
I'm not sure I'll be unable to unhear this when I listen to the original Bayou levels anymore 😂Great job!
As a massive Philip Collins fan, I am in tears at this. Unbelievable.
same
This is so natural. I wish the drum breakdown could be more impactful, but you're doing the absolute best possible with the sounds available.

Yeah, could have used the barrel explosion sound effect in place of the drum samples.

can i just say this was a fantastic idea and really well executed
I love to see that even nowadays, lots of people share the same feeling when they first heard that tune in DKC2!!
honestly it just sounds like a stage song that has always existed within the game, and that's amazing. well done 👍
I'm so happy that I found this beautiful rendition.
This is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard why don't more people know about it
Big internet
I know about it now 4 years later
i wanna cry right now
I can feel it Konging. 🦍🐵🍌♥️😤💯
This is such a niche crossover I didn't even know existed until today. This is awesome!
I've been waiting for this moment, for all my life...
I remember hearing David Wise say he was a fan of Phil Collins, and this definitely fits! Sounds like it could be from the game
I love the DK2 sound font fits so many songs so well.
It took me a minute to realize this was a fan made soundtrack, fits so well with the official one. Love it
This is probably one of the best ever sound font conversions ever made
The opening is straight out of a DKC2 track. Great work
A Phil Collins song in the style of DKC2?
Oh lord~ ❤

Idk why this was recommended to me but I'm so glad it was
I think of this every time I get to Barrel Bayou because of that start! I love this mashup.
As the air, I can confirm that this so good that I feel it coming in me tonight
Oh lord 😂
can also confirm, I was the "it"
I can feel it coming in the air tonight. Oh lord.
Man I love this. Everytime I hear this song play I think of this game.
Donkey Kong was the first thing I thought when I first heard this song too.
Wonderful it works so well.
So rad
Lol this sounds like it was taken straight out of one of the Bayou levels of DKC2. Amazing

yeah I had this album already in vinyl since my dad bought it already back then before I was born in the 90s.
😁🤙
This is great. Someone needs to do the Tarzan soundtrack now, I would die.
This fits so well, and sounds like it actually game from the game!
All it’s missing is gameplay noises I swear 🦧
Are you feeling it now Mr Krabs?
Ya
@peterortiz1160 Oh yeah, Mr. krabs
*Screeching noises*
Dan Friesen sent me here!
He wasn't wrong. Jordan was wrong.
I listen to this almost as much as the Phil Collins version 😅
I miss this game so
Much
I wanna hear "Mama" "Take Me Home" or "Tonight Tonight Tonight" with the DKC2 soundfont
it sounds so natural, that's the crazy part
These all sound really amazing... Keep up the good work!💖
Needs more of that SNES reverb.
Absolutely brilliant, just as always! Thank you so much for doing this amazing cover.
How did I just now find this gem? Better late than never I guess 😂 well done

this level would be the level you have to climb and hold on without falling
funny how Phil Collins did this song. and then years later we get a gorilla on the drums, and donkey kong is a gorilla. illiminattti jsksks
What do you mean? Gorilla on the drums?
you referring that he also did the soundtrack for Tarzan?
There was a Cadbury chocolate commercial a few years back that showed a gorilla play the iconic drum fill from this song

where is the iconic drum fill?
such a missed oppurtunity, DKC had such cool drum effects on various levels, the short drum riff could have been very cool. nice work though
banger!
One real question why can't there be any drum beats at the end of that?
