    It seems like Anita just did to Sargon what she labels as harassment. She's delusional if she thinks her logic doesn't apply to men too. Feminism is supposed to be about equality, not a heavy bias towards women. This new "professional victim feminism" is tainting classic feminism.

    • @ApartmentViews
      @ApartmentViews 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      rainynight02 Fran never said that. Being barraged with the level of hate they get is a pretty unique and awful experience. They're definitely stronger than the dudes who express hate for them. And yeah, it's not simply criticism, it's dehumanizing disrespect and cruel digs about their looks and race and and gender, calling them slurs like sluts and cunts and retards and being overwhelmingly misogynistic and insulting their husbands and boyfriends as well as making threats of rape and violence - and this by the cohort with the online power, the popular cool kids/boys, for years and years. Laci's reaction of breaking down and crying when finally confronting one of her primary harassers and letting him know how his disrespect effected her and what his fans had been doing (though he probably knew about a lot of it already) stems from the same place of hurt as Anita's reaction. Crying makes you look more vulnerable and sympathetic and soft but is not the only understandable reaction to have to meeting your bully. You'd think these women were murderers with level of hate and contempt directed their way. It's crazy to me that so few, Phil included, can understand how seeing your biggest tormenter in the audience could upset you. Serious lack of empathy for harassed women who don't act sweet enough here.

      Mack TB the only defensive argument for the YT feminists is that the FOLLOWERS of Argon and others may harass them, not the actual YTbers. But yeah, I loath their hypocrisy, lies, safe spaces, and bullying tactics. I like what Morgan Freeman said when asked about racism (while I believe it is not a major issues in America TODAY it exists inside of bad people) he said, " just don't talk about it." and I believe what he meant was that hyper-analyzing a decreasing issue creates a mentality that any unfortunate event that happens to a minority is a result of prejudice. I can't remember the exact name of the event but a black person was shot, and the media outrage was enormous, suggesting that the man was shot because he was black and that it was an example of white supremacy. That was until the information about the cop that shot the man was released and he was Asian.

    They need to stop inviting these "creators" that make 7 second videos or dance like animals over copyrighted music - and start inviting people that have been at this for a long time and that actually CARE about what they are creating and putting out there online.
    Anita - nobody FORCED you to go to VidCon -stay home if you can't take the heat - I'm sure there's a ton of other real creators that would have loved to have the opportunity to be invited to VidCon and be on panels. Instead they invite the clowns you see in this video. (Except Phil, he's awesome) -_-

Imagine if someone had been threatening to kill you, or in some way hurt you in some way, (I dont know if he had done that but lets make an example). And they had done that to you everyday for 3 years, and then you go to work and they are at your work, sitting there, smiling at you. It was 100% supposed to be an aggressive and intimidating action.

      I think these people need to start using their brain but a crowd draws people it's human instinct. He needs to think about how much danger he put his fans in. It just shows he doesn't care about them or their safety. Having fame needs to come with certain responsibilities. He is responsible for this mob and the harm caused. If we don't place responsiblity on someone for inviting something they purposefully did then we fail as a society. This doesn't mean your responsible when your fans go and harass (or threaten) someone else, unless you tell them to do so and encourage the behavior. This is why you have senators and actors making statements against violence.

    It's 2017, and people are still talking about Anita Sarkeshian? Mostly I'm shocked that VidCon invited her at all. I was a speaker (Industry track, not a TH-camr) at the Amsterdam one this year, and might also be at the Australian one - but depending on how they handle this, I might reconsider.
    As I said, I'm very surprised they invited her at all - she's a proven liar (about everything from her past, to her current "research"), as well as a thief (stealing both content from TH-cam, as well as graphic artists, giving no credit or money, or telling them she is using it). Not to mention all that "I was harrassed and bullied online!" because someone sent her a deaththreat or said something nasty on Twitter - geez, back when I was active on TH-cam, I recieved deaththreads as well but it's certainly not something I would make a big deal out of.
    VidCon is a really cool thing, but this seems to blow in the face of their "everyone is welcome and included" policy. If they decide to let it slide, purely because of her gender and ideological views, I might reconsider what I think of the event overall.

    • @fcold9402
      @fcold9402 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      If she was just complaining about the death threats and actual stalking I could side with her. But she seems to consider any criticism of her to be harassment which is a problem because she say a lot of things that seem quite idiotic. If you say she's wrong she considers it harassment and worse she is an activist against that free speech. If the speech is little mean or critical of her or other women (she agrees with) the perpetrators must be punished. Though somehow I get the sense she is ok harassing others or 'punching a nazi' (with everyone who disagrees listed as a nazi).
      If anyone else (not in her crowed) did what she did they would have been kicked out. The rules are not equal.

      I honestly do not understand her and most Feminists logic in that. Rationale discourse with those who one disagrees is not a bad thing. It actually can help one's position. By understanding the opposite side and why they think that way, that can cause self-introspection. And that can be a good thing. It allows one to figure out if their beliefs or ideas on the world stand up. But who knows? Maybe, I am being crazy in this case. It is why I often categorize most feminists as regressive and poisoning the well, as opposed to sharing it/ adding to that well of knowledge.

    • @earkin9
      @earkin9 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It doesn't excuse you from breaking them, but it makes you less of a bad person. These rules aren't really about morality. It's different then saying you didn't know whether or not its okay to kill, because thats obviously not morally okay. Giving your fans 3,000 is morally okay whether or not its against or supporting the rules.

    • @NinjaKittkatt
      @NinjaKittkatt 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      True because all it does is encourages people _not_ to read the rules because if they break one they can just claim to not have known. Rules are only rules if they're enforced without any special treatments.

    • @ScarfeeEdits
      @ScarfeeEdits 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Eyral Arkin you're missing my point. Intentions in the venues of such caliber are usually less important than the consequences.
      Hypothetical example: I came into the VidCon lobby to give people that came to meet me free merch because they already paid $150 for a ticket, and I don't wanna make them pay more. In the result of a stampede, five people were severely injured.
      The fact of giving your fans 3,000 is morally okay.
      Creating a dangerous, property-destroying, stampeding mob of 12 to 16 year olds while doing so? Not so much. Especially when you know what the consequences of your actions are going to be in advance.
      Rules are there for a reason.

  • @FoetusInYourNoodles

    Harassment or legitimate criticism? Anita Sarkeesian said in one of her first videos, that rescuing a female from kidnappers, for example Mario rescuing the princess in super mario bros, is an act of objectification.
    Rescuing women from their captors is objectification of women and sexism...
    From that day onward, she kept trying to top herself with more bat shit insane stupidity, and yes, many people felt the need to point out how bat shit insane her arguments were... She has had her comments section disabled on every single one of her videos, ever since that first video.
    Anita Sarkeesian does not receive harassment, she receives public backlash for her insane and insulting content which she publishes on the internet. Anita then pretends that this public backlash is misogynistic harassment.
    I don't know why Phil didn't mention this fact.

      FoetusInYourNoodles Anita is a controversial public figure, so I'm willing to bet she does receive death threats, bullying, and legitimate harassment. The way people treat public figures and celebrities can be abhorrent, but Anita acting as if it's some sexist conspiracy against women and not an issue with how people interact on the internet and with public figures in general is absurd and a misrepresentation of the situation.

    Also "shithead"? Real mature.

  • @CrystallineLore
    @CrystallineLore 7 ปีที่แล้ว +247

    I don't agree with harassment, but Anita has absolutely no idea what she's talking (and this has been proven to death by far more logical people than she will ever be). Her concerns aren't entirely non-exist and they do deserve as much light as any other issue, but Anita is NOT a champion for them nor does she truly care about the topics of feminism or equality that she proposes to support.
    I'm personally not surprised SHE was the one such drama came up with because she has a history of it. It's unfortunate people treated her like they have (with the threats and such) BUT she stoked those flames. No, I still don't agree with it AT all, but you don't generate that kind of mindless hate by just minding your business or making sense. There are a lot of female feminists that make logical points and get their usual mindless detractors but not on the level of Anita, or even close.

    The Sargon/Anita thing is a wierd soap opra drama to me. Anita comes out of this looking like a hypocrite . Despite her comments afterward, it's just damage control. She knows that she just reacted and reacted badly to Sargon being there. Sargon himself posted a video saying that he went to the panel to get an idea of how he could approach Anita and other feminist with his arguments in a way that they would accept.
    But the best part of the whole thing is how Sargon and the other skeptics have reacted to the incident. Sargon started wearing a hat (probably made by Jeff Holiday) with "Garbage Human" on it. A few in the Skeptic Community have started calling their community "The Landfill". Not just Sargon but most of the live streams I've watched from vidcon show all of them embracing the term Garbage Human as a moniker. Mind you these people were calling themselves the TH-cam Villains before they ever got to VidCon. This is probably the biggest difference between the two sides: The Feminist get called a name and they cry. The Skeptics get called a name, and they meme it.

And it seemed like he wanted to make a huge ruckus with everyone crowding around him. Having hundreds of people running around can be very unsafe for those who are just looking for a good time at VidCon. People could have easily gotten hurt or even trampled on. That's just my opinion.

      That person back then was in the wrong, and Logan Paul is in the wrong here, too. You would think that even though he wasn't invited, he would've been at least somewhat responsible and tried to look into some of these things first... Oh wait.

      When you become a TH-camr with 5 million plus subs, you gotta think about more than just yourself. There were people who most likely traveled to VidCon just to see Logan. And if you see him, you are going to do everything in your power to interact with him. So now you and hundreds of others are in a stamped to get Logan's attention. Yes, the craziness is partly because of fans, but it is also due to Logan being there to begin with. And all the security sees is someone causing a lot of trouble. He doesn't know who Logan is.

    So the day after Anita bullies someone, she's on a panel talking about bullying. Sargon is _critical_ of Anita, and being critical of someone in the public eye is neither harassment nor is it bullying. Calling someone in the audience a "garbage person" is not being critical, it's being an ass. Logan Paul showed about as much respect to the Vidcon event and staff as he has his own work/audience, none. And broke ass Justin Bieber doesn't deserve a comment. I'm sure Anita would have something to say, though.

    I see what you're saying, and I'm glad that you would personally attend the panels of someone you've clashed with in order to keep an open mind, but I think you're giving a lot of benefit of the doubt to other people in assuming they'd be the same way.
    Take as an example, over the last year and a half I've had a particular person harass me across every single social platform on which I'm present - over that period the messages have developed from common or garden creepy, to threatening suicide, to violent/sexually threatening, to just the same innocuous phrase 800+ times over one night, to at least one message every day for the entirety of 2016 and beyond. By the end they were just leaving a single word on any and every post I made anywhere; it in itself didn't mean anything, but (like an anti-safeword) it was the culmination of all of those horrible things that came earlier and served as a deliberate reminder that no matter where I went or what I did I wouldn't be able to escape it.
    Clearly it's different, but you can see how something which, from an outside perspective, looks harmless can be perceived as immensely threatening with the whole picture in mind. I'm making no comment on whether what Sarkeesian said was just, but I certainly have empathy towards someone who, when feeling understandably vulnerable and threatened (whether that was intended against them or not), reacted with defensive anger.

      I was at Phil's meet-up in London a couple years back and he didn't have security or anything as he didn't think he needed it but yeah, we were all older than 12 but we still crowded him (I was towards the back/middle so I actually was trying to get people to give him space but I'm just one small person) and tried to get a pic/signature, he fled the scene as it was a safety and security risk, which is why eventually he came back and you had to get a pass as he had to pay for security... so no, this just happens with anyone any age who has a large audience, which kinda proves your point even strongly, if (mostly) calm and collected mostly 16-30 year olds can still put Phil in harms way, a bunch of 12 year olds are even worse.

    Anita was completely out of line especially considering her panel was supposedly about anti-bullying she even went so far as to bully another one of her panelists in the same day simply for disagreeing with her.
    But it's no shock because that's how she makes her money. Anita is a professional victim she goes out of her way to make ridiculous claims claiming that other people (initially gamers and game designers) are all racist and sexist then when anyone dares to do as much as say "no I think you're wrong and here's why..." suddenly she's the victim.
    What a shock, Vidcon did nothing and that's because it's gotten to the point that big companies and organizations are scared of being called racist or sexist since those labels are flung around so loosely now as to have effectively lost any meaning other than you dared disagree with a social justice warrior on something.

      Grumpy If you want to earn easy money this summer download Featurepoints app and use the promo code : 42PEFD to start with fifty free points. This is no joke I earned 10 dollars alone on that app. You earn points by doing surveys and testing app which you can delete when your done. Any points you earn you can trade them in for prizes but you have to have a way to redeem them. 600 points equals 1 dollar. When people use your promo code you and that person also earn points. Please try it.

    Its funny she mention Franchesca Ramsey. One of the people there named Andy Warski has made far, far more videos and harsher criticism of Franchesca Ramsey than Sargon had of Sarkeesian. However at vidcon Andy and Franny met up, had a long conversation 1 to 1, made a huge deal of progress, and managed to put aside their huge dislike of each other. They acted incredibly maturely, made a lot of progress, and nobody felt "harassed" "intimidated" or any other form of victimhood. Anita needs to stop speaking for other people, she was wrong about Franny, she was wrong about rape victims, she was wrong about cripples, she was wrong with just about every single group she tries to speak for. Especially when the latter two are openly begging her to stop.

      If you haven't seen it yet, Andy did a podcast today listening to a podcast that Frannie did. Could be wrong, only listened to around 5 minutes or so, but didn't sound flattering for Franny from what I heard

    • @MsAJ92
      @MsAJ92 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay just out of morbid curiosity, what exactly did she say about rape victims and cripples?

    • @olivialambert4124
      @olivialambert4124 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      +SDW175 I hope that's not the case :( It legitimately sounded like something positive was happening. I mean shit, Andy gets more views than she does, if anything its her channel "leeching" off his not the other way round. I do genuinely wonder if she says things like that for attention and views, and by extension if she was two faced about the Vidcon incident if she also did that for attention and views. Its quite obvious why he was cautious around her, she constantly goes off on one any time he so much as hints that she might be wrong but to flip that and an explanation as to how normal social interactions (ie. jokes) work into "grovelling" seems pathetic.
      +MsAJ92 She is constantly trying to exploit it for attention and victimhood points, despite not being a victim of either. She sits there making up how terrible the world and the police forces are towards rape victims (quite the opposite in my experience) and is constantly supporting and promoting people who have been caught out and categorically proven to be lying about having been raped along the same lines as "listen and believe" even though common sense would suggest that it might create a backlash towards anyone claiming to have been raped in the future, and people less likely to actually believe it. She constantly flips out about rape jokes and demands we all start believing that they are entirely unacceptable and damaging to rape victims, despite rape victims being some of the biggest purveyors of rape jokes due to their known benefits to recovery. Essentially the only people supporting her behaviour regarding rape are those who haven't been raped. Almost every rape victim I know (dozens upon dozens) strongly despises either Anita's approach to rape itself or those with the same approach Anita takes. It is known by both the experts in rape victim psychology and the victims themselves that her suggestions are some of the very worst one can follow.
      As for cripples, she uses the same tactics of attempting to be the spokesperson for cripples as a form of exploiting it for attention and money whilst exclusively saying things the huge majority of cripples disagree with. A society which is both forced to support all disabilities at huge cost to itself or face even larger fines whilst simultaneously being given quotas and grants to encourage hiring of cripples isn't "deeply problematic" or attacking cripples in any way. If anything society is too far the other way, small businesses shouldn't be forced to pay tens of thousands of dollars they can't afford just so 0.6% of the population in a wheelchair don't have to ask for a little assistance. Or forcing disabled bathrooms in clothing stores and those unrelated to using a restroom (again tens of thousands of dollars). Or even forcing gyms, athletics stadiums and general sports training centres to add a wheelchair ramp or elevator next to every set of stairs just in case a cripple in a wheelchair decides to train in a specialized facility for the 100m sprint and doesn't want to ask a willing member of staff for help. Seriously, this is the state of it right now. And of course cripples getting preferentially hired above others at a significantly disproportionate rate far higher than the number of disabled in the country (and ignoring that many disabled like myself can't even work anyway making the numbers even worse) and giving grants or fines to companies based upon that number. All of it suggests society is broken trying to bend over backwards for cripples. And the biggest complaint of the again dozens upon dozens of cripples I've asked (support groups are a hell of a place for that sort of thing), that people treat them overly nice and they'd simply like to pretend to be a normal person. Again its a case of Anita saying a bunch of lies which bears no relation to reality, asking for the very opposite of the desires of the group she intends to exploit, and generally making life noticeably worse for both the group she is "helping" and the rest of the world forced to bend to her whims and slowly getting pissed off at the group she claims to speak for.
      Basically she is exploiting both, she is doing the opposite those she "speaks for" desire in both, she is making things very noticeably worse for both, and I'm sure its quite clear how much I dislike her behaviour. Exploiting other people's life-ruining problems for attention and money is bad enough, but damaging their lives in addition to that is a lot worse especially when her sole claim to authority is that other people are the damaging ones.

    The problem with Anita's statement is that she was clearly the inciter of that incident, she was in a position of power having a microphone and being a panel host and yet her statement implies she was the victim of something that simply did not happen. She wasn't harassed in this scenario and the people sitting peacefully in the audience had every right to be there. You cannot claim to be the victim and also be the inciter, that makes no sense.

And people like Sargon egged it on all the way... for five fucking years. Look up her name in google or youtube so you can see the extent ignorant people would go to harrass this girl, because she *dared* said she'd give opinion (gasp! Well, most criticism Sarkeesian receives that gains any traction points at bad logic, bad facts, stolen footage, or straight up the fact that she didn't finish the content she promised on her kickstarter despite getting overfunded. And she has a history of painting any criticism as misogynist or "targeting women", this is just her sticking to what has worked for her in the past.
    Blaming the person who exposed you as wrong dishonest and deliberately misguiding for people poorly reacting to it is fucked up, kind of the Daddy Of Five fans attacking Phil.
    Dude! he didnt make you fuck up, he didnt make you dishonest, he did not make your behaviour unacceptable! you did that! he only made your misconduct known to the public! This shit is like claiming the witnesses who testified in your trial for murdering someone in the middle of a busy street where harassing and targeting you and are culpable for your conviction.
    Also claiming people who disagree with her silently and politely listening at what she has to say is a form of gaslighting paints a concerning picture of her attitudes towards public debate.

    What Logan Paul did was obviously careless, stupid, and dangerous. The way he laughed while running from security shows very clearly that he has mistaken his fame for godliness. He sees his fans as both validation of that godliness, and as a protective barrier through which the rest of society must break before he is ever to be held accountable.

    Logan Paul knew exactly what the reaction would be and was counting on it. You don't do stunts like that not expecting that reaction. So yes, he should be held accountable. It was premeditated.

    I think the one of the most famous examples of a fan doing something in the name of a celebrity; is when John Hinckley tried to kill Reagan for Jodie Foster. another famous example is when Mark Chapman shot John Lennon and started reading Catcher in the Rye. I don't believe either example should be blamed on their respective celebrities, but on the disturbed persons who committed those crimes. The only time that a youtuber should be held responsible is if they explicitly tell fans to do something illegal. If you don't believe these examples don't hold any ground in the argument that youtuber's should be held responsible for what their fans do. I can't think of any other arguments other than those two.

    Logan Paul totally knew what he was doing. It's not the first time he's created swarms of kids to get a laugh. Just like when Pokémon go came out he did a prank then. It's just a matter of time till a stunt does go wrong and someone gets hurt.

      Not sure which side you're taking, but it's worth noting, Sargon has said repeatedly that he does not condone or support in any manner, any form of harassment from his fans, or people acting in his name, against anyone at all. Anita, on the other hand, literally begged people to harass others for her.

      I'm with the CIA person on this. Feminism had evolved into this simple-minded cult of hatred in the same vein as religion, where you have to step on the most ridiculous of egg shells to remain being accepted. It has far left behind its dictionary definition that's sited all the time. I found it best to drop the term and all the baggage that comes with it and embrace the term "egalitarian".

      Michael Edwards
      That would be giving in then, wouldn't it? We should be restoring the name for figures like Elizabeth Cady Stanton who fought for women's rights, not to shy away from feminazis. We're letting them tarnish the name and erase what women long ago have worked for to build this country.

      It's a problem of semantics. Both sides are making the mistake of ignoring that the other side's use of the term isn't any less valid than theirs.
      Feminism CAN be used to refer to sexual egalitarianism.
      Feminism CAN be used to refer to the social movement of people who call themselves feminists, even if they're not egalitarian.
      People just need to understand that the two definitions of feminism aren't equivalent.
      The use of the word "feminism" is often misleading because of this, but it's not wrong. I do agree with Michael to an extent - calling yourself an egalitarian can help get rid of the ambiguity in some ways, but then you just have even more ambiguity because both people who believe in equal rights and opportunity (libertarians, anarcho-communists) and people who believe in equal outcomes (stalinists, SJWs) both call themselves egalitarian.

      Nathan Gamble the difference is feminism focus on women's rights and egalitarians focus on everyone's rights including men's rights. I agree that they're both valid but you can't put them in the same boat. That's really not fair.

    I tend to subscribe to the Spiderman principle: "With great power, comes great responsibility". If you weald the power of fame irresponsibly, and put other people in danger because of that... Then that's on you.

      That is retarded. Humans have autonomy for their OWN actions. If I become famous and people like me if I say anything critically negative about someone on Social media that doesn't mean: "Hey, fans go dogpile this person" Criticism is not harassment. Nor is it code: "Initiate harassment"

      I remember when I was around 13 my class and I were on a fieldtrip I saw my favorite actor at the time and I wanted to go meet him but I don't really care if famous people notice me. Seconds later my class almost tackles him and I was the only one that got his autograph. Guess it pays to not be savage.
