As a firefighter and an EMT, this brought me to tears. Hearing the bad news (that we needed to hear about, than you Phil & team) about the multiple stores today, but especially the fire. I just arrived back from the scene of Grenfell Tower, working in the local church to help with food, bedding etc. What I found amazing was the spirit of the people. There were kids from that tower who went to school in Pyjamas this morning to complete their GCSEs. Many of the people were up and around, helping, still abiding by their fasts. There were children playing in the Church and people from all backgrounds conversing, helping and laughing. There were hundreds of people lining up to give food, bedding, shelters etc... it was a really amazing sight.

I myself am 14 and I have been hunted by Instagram perverts sending me dm's telling me to do sexual things. I never do those things and block those guys immediately, but those predators definitely exist and sometimes they're famous, making them more convincing. I wish that all girls my age could realize that no celebrity or random pervert is worth our dignity. My heart goes out to every girl affected by these attacks every year.

Many Conservative MP's (who were also landlords themselves) voted against a law that would mean landlords would have to make their residence "fit for habitation" which would have made the landlord liable for the deaths. The law didn't pass so right now who the blame would fall on from a legal standpoint is unclear. It is likely the blame will fall on the construction crews and contractors who installed the fittings and not the landlord and housing group responsible for the building at this point. Though it is still early days.
These Firefighters are heroes, too bad they couldn't save them all. The good thing is that other buildings will get their fire safety installations upgraded now and this will be more unlikely to happen again.
I'm sure those 14 year olds will carry shame and depression for a while when they realize the weight of the situation, but I sincerely hope they recover, learn from their mistakes, and never make them again. I went to school with Austin and his family - his mom worked at our high school too. I can't really say I'm surprised this happened to him - he had it coming. Some of my friends and peers were targets (for a lack of a better word) of whom he asked to get videos from and after first hearing about it when his first scandal came out, I was so angry that he was using his platform in such a disgusting way. When I think of fans and the people they look up to and admire, there's a level of trust in that relationship and he completely destroyed that. All I can think about now is what his family must be going through because they are such sweethearts and just hope they will get through this.

I'm a mother of young teen girls who absolutely LOVE TH-cam stars. THIS is the kind of stuff I think about when they beg me to let them have TH-cam accounts. They are allowed to watch TH-cam on our living room TV and access to social media is extremely limited elsewhere. I watch most of it with them so I know what and who they are watching. Thanks for reporting, Phil. This world is a scary place, especially when raising young people, and having your rational reporting is appreciated.

My kids are still pretty young so there is no TH-cam or any accounts for them yet, and no personal devices, but I would do the exact same as you and even homework assignments that are done on the computer, are in a main room for all to see as they pass by, with mutual respect to be courteous and quiet though. I also think part of it is also watching the idolizations so our kids don't put them on an infallible level and begin obsessing with infatuation. When you hear people say 'I'd do anything to meet him!'. That's when reality has to hit them hard that their 'idols' are just human, and just because they may have a great talent or make great vids, doesn't mean they aren't capable of being absolute scum.
I had privacy as a child on the internet. But i was able to separate reality from tv and movie personalities. Kids these days think that because you can send a dm straight to your fave celeb means your friends automatically and can trust them. People need to teach their kids that these are still strangers whether or not you watch them 24/7 on tv or online.

this story about austin jones was too real. almost the same thing happened to me when I was 14 where a 26 year old man "groomed" me into sending him explicit or pornographic videos. This went on for months. we were "friends" but he was pretty messed up (obviously) and if he was upset about something wouldn't tell me what was wrong until I sent him a video complete with the "if you really cared you would do this for me" thing. as upsetting hearing this happen to someone elsewas, it was nice to hear my story from an outside perspective to understand just how fucked up that guy was and reinforce how I really was a victim in my situation. As a teenager now who can look back on her childhood I am disgusted by Austin Jones. When I left the home where I was being beaten and emotionally manipulated I found myself living with my mother and her boyfriend. The first night that he ever touched me I was 11. He was a fifty two year old man who stood six feet and three inches tall and I was a child trying to learn how to trust again. If it isn't obvious from my story already I cannot stand pedophiles, I lived under the same roof as one for 2 years. I stayed because he has a grandson who I did not want him to harm, but when I turned thirteen I fled back into the home of my original abusers. Years after I left I still will receive cards from my rapist, I do not know how he has found my address and there is only ever two things inside his letters; a sum of money ranging from 20 to 100 dollars, and a "Thank you for the good times" message. I believe all pedophiles who act on their impulses should rot, and that those who do not should seek serious help before they do anything drastic. But in the case of Austin Jones I am absolutely repulsed as my one escape from the man in the room next to me was TH-cam. I can remember clearly when he would leave my room and lock the door behind him, I still remember the rapid dash I would make to my Mother's laptop. TH-camrs were my inspiration, my comfort, and my hope. This platform let me escape and be a child again. What makes me sick is that I know that I would have done anything to make my favorite creators notice me at the time. I'm sure that if one of them had approached me the same way Jones approached those girls I would have complied hoping to impress anyone I admired. It is incredibly disheartening to know that what I used as a tool to heal and console has been used in the same way that calls forth a need to heal and console. As a firefighter and an EMT, this brought me to tears. Hearing the bad news (that we needed to hear about, than you Phil & team) about the multiple stores today, but especially the fire.
My family and I spend our lives trying to prevent and mitigate tragedies like that. I'm deeply saddened... those deaths were preventable by the buildings owners and they should be held legally accountable for it.

a woman had thrown her baby out of a 10th floor window. There were people down below and thankfully a man had caught the child. Another woman was leaving with her six children down the stair case. at one point she turned around and only saw four. These are some of the horrific stories from the tower and the goverment havent sent any aid or offered to put these people in hotels or temp accommodation. I just arrived back from the scene of Grenfell Tower, working in the local church to help with food, bedding etc.
What I found amazing was the spirit of the people. There were kids from that tower who went to school in Pyjamas this morning to complete their GCSEs. Many of the people were up and around, helping, still abiding by their fasts. There were children playing in the Church and people from all backgrounds conversing, helping and laughing. There were hundreds of people lining up to give food, bedding, shelters etc... it was a really amazing sight.

I'm very tired of comments trying to justify what he did. What he did was predatory. He looked for girls he could easily manipulate and held he idea of them being his biggest fan above their heads.

I find that offensive, since my cousin just got sentenced to 4 years in Prison for sexting a girl on a 18+ (Eula agreement) anonymous sexting app. After he got suspicious of her age and asked her how old she was. When she responded with an illegal age he deleted the app. But someone turned him in to the police, 5 officers showed up arrested him, didn't read him his rights, interrogated him for several hours without allowing representation or allowing him to make a phone call, held him for 72 hours without a warrant or judge ordered extension, illegally seized all devices from inside the house with no warrant, (btw they were unable to find any evidence on his devices) and then the judge decided to ignore the plea agreement for just probation which had been endorsed by the prosecution especially since no one knows who this girl is or how old she actually is, since she said she was 18 when she signed up for the app. and now his Wife and Kids are being evicted and have no where to go because his name is on the lease. Yet this punk ass actually did something intentionally and gets house arrest, seriously wtf.

Many Conservative MP's (who were also landlords themselves) voted against a law that would mean landlords would have to make their residence "fit for habitation" which would have made the landlord liable for the deaths. The law didn't pass so right now who the blame would fall on from a legal standpoint is unclear. It is likely the blame will fall on the construction crews and contractors who installed the fittings and not the landlord and housing group responsible for the building at this point. Though it is still early days.

I went to school with Austin and his family - his mom worked at our high school too. I can't really say I'm surprised this happened to him - he had it coming. Some of my friends and peers were targets (for a lack of a better word) of whom he asked to get videos from and after first hearing about it when his first scandal came out, I was so angry that he was using his platform in such a disgusting way. When I think of fans and the people they look up to and admire, there's a level of trust in that relationship and he completely destroyed that. All I can think about now is what his family must be going through because they are such sweethearts and just hope they will get through this.

They are allowed to watch TH-cam on our living room TV and access to social media is extremely limited elsewhere. I watch most of it with them so I know what and who they are watching. Thanks for reporting, Phil. This world is a scary place, especially when raising young people, and having your rational reporting is appreciated.

My kids are still pretty young so there is no TH-cam or any accounts for them yet, and no personal devices, but I would do the exact same as you and even homework assignments that are done on the computer, are in a main room for all to see as they pass by, with mutual respect to be courteous and quiet though. I also think part of it is also watching the idolizations so our kids don't put them on an infallible level and begin obsessing with infatuation. When you hear people say 'I'd do anything to meet him!'. That's when reality has to hit them hard that their 'idols' are just human, and just because they may have a great talent or make great vids, doesn't mean they aren't capable of being absolute scum.

I had privacy as a child on the internet. But i was able to separate reality from tv and movie personalities. Kids these days think that because you can send a dm straight to your fave celeb means your friends automatically and can trust them. People need to teach their kids that these are still strangers whether or not you watch them 24/7 on tv or online.

this story about austin jones was too real. almost the same thing happened to me when I was 14 where a 26 year old man "groomed" me into sending him explicit or pornographic videos. This went on for months. we were "friends" but he was pretty messed up (obviously) and if he was upset about something wouldn't tell me what was wrong until I sent him a video complete with the "if you really cared you would do this for me" thing. as upsetting hearing this happen to someone elsewas, it was nice to hear my story from an outside perspective to understand just how fucked up that guy was and reinforce how I really was a victim in my situation. Thanks for talking about this with compassion for those girls Phil, it's indescribable to be that young and impressionable and have a man pretending to have your best interests in mind manipulate you. As a teenager now who can look back on her childhood I am disgusted by Austin Jones. When I left the home where I was being beaten and emotionally manipulated I found myself living with my mother and her boyfriend. The first night that he ever touched me I was 11. He was a fifty two year old man who stood six feet and three inches tall and I was a child trying to learn how to trust again. If it isn't obvious from my story already I cannot stand pedophiles, I lived under the same roof as one for 2 years. I stayed because he has a grandson who I did not want him to harm, but when I turned thirteen I fled back into the home of my original abusers. Years after I left I still will receive cards from my rapist, I do not know how he has found my address and there is only ever two things inside his letters; a sum of money ranging from 20 to 100 dollars, and a "Thank you for the good times" message. I believe all pedophiles who act on their impulses should rot, and that those who do not should seek serious help before they do anything drastic. But in the case of Austin Jones I am absolutely repulsed as my one escape from the man in the room next to me was TH-cam. I can remember clearly when he would leave my room and lock the door behind him, I still remember the rapid dash I would make to my Mother's laptop. TH-camrs were my inspiration, my comfort, and my hope. This platform let me escape and be a child again. What makes me sick is that I know that I would have done anything to make my favorite creators notice me at the time. I'm sure that if one of them had approached me the same way Jones approached those girls I would have complied hoping to impress anyone I admired. It is incredibly disheartening to know that what I used as a tool to heal and console has been used in the same way that calls forth a need to heal and console. I hope that absolute peanut of a man gets what he deserves, and I hope his victims know that they mean the world to me, and that things will get better

Anytime I receive money from him I spend half of it on my family and friends that have stood with me and I donate the other half to the women's shelter near me, I like to think that the money is doing some good that way.
