i think that its a multifaceted teaching. firstly, time is valuable. assess if wasting ur time to get something for free is worth it, especially bc a bagel isnt even costly or beneficial. however, try to get it before you decide its not worth your time. ive never heard of cutting a line peacefully esp to receive something for free, but thats why this is an anecdote and not factual.

I am a bit confuse with what he said about the first part when he was talking about the bagel. He skipped the line to get the bagels, not one but two. In his teaching he said we don’t always have to follow the rules but just as long as we don’t stop someone else (not his exact words but I’m trying to paraphrase) what if the last person in line that waited all this time doesn’t get any because he skipped the line, isn’t that getting in someone else’s way? Hindering someone else’s progress?
Would you say someone who deliberately ran faster in order to get in front of the guy who doesn't happen to be left with a bagel is getting in the way of them too? Hindering their progress in the same way?

Let's say there's 2 spots to get the same bagels. One where you can take your time, examine them and choose which one you want and another where you're just given a bagel and you go on your way. One forms a queue and on the other one people just get their bagel and leave. No queue forms. Would you say you're worried about the people at the back of the queue not getting any bagels?

These are some great concepts but I feel like instead of motivating to move forward it holds on to the past. The world is evolving, and so must our values. Instead of clinging to outdated ideals, we should embrace change and adapt, reinventing what greatness means in today’s reality. Tradition had its time, but now is the moment to build something new, something that truly reflects the world we live in.
re: the bagels. The philosopher Kant, while often flawed, presented a moral argument that would be very applicable here. Kant introduced a thing called the Categorical Imperative, which loosely says that a thing passes a test of ethics, if everyone were to do it. So, imagine if everyone stepped up and reached through a line of people to get themselves a bagel instead of waiting their turn in an orderly way! Chaos. Simon has good words, usually. However, his illustration of the bagel story is NOT his best advice.

His point was that people should think outside the box more, which usually is good advice, except in THIS case, it's terrible advice, because he tries to justify seeing past the obstacle to his desire (people in line to get free bagels) by just jumping the line and helping himself. If that is his best example for thinking "past one's obstacles", then he is a dimwit, because the lineup is there to keep things orderly and fair and what he did was to be disorderly and unfair. period.

With a little patience and understanding you and your family will be abundant in tomatoes. Just think about the different things you can do with tomato. The law of abundance.

I am a bit confuse with what he said about the first part when he was talking about the bagel. He skipped the line to get the bagels, not one but two. In his teaching he said we don’t always have to follow the rules but just as long as we don’t stop someone else (not his exact words but I’m trying to paraphrase) what if the last person in line that waited all this time doesn’t get any because he skipped the line, isn’t that getting in someone else’s way? Hindering someone else’s progress?

Let's say there's 2 spots to get the same bagels. One where you can take your time, examine them and choose which one you want and another where you're just given a bagel and you go on your way.
One forms a queue and on the other one people just get their bagel and leave. No queue forms. Would you say you're worried about the people at the back of the queue not getting any bagels?

re: the bagels. The philosopher Kant, while often flawed, presented a moral argument that would be very applicable here. Kant introduced a thing called the Categorical Imperative, which loosely says that a thing passes a test of ethics, if everyone were to do it. So, imagine if everyone stepped up and reached through a line of people to get themselves a bagel instead of waiting their turn in an orderly way! Chaos. Simon has good words, usually. However, his illustration of the bagel story is NOT his best advice.

His point was that people should think outside the box more, which usually is good advice, except in THIS case, it's terrible advice, because he tries to justify seeing past the obstacle to his desire (people in line to get free bagels) by just jumping the line and helping himself. If that is his best example for thinking "past one's obstacles", then he is a dimwit, because the lineup is there to keep things orderly and fair and what he did was to be disorderly and unfair. period.
