The fact that the drums on Animals as Leaders entire first album are programmed (which means the drums are literally in perfect time, and will make the slightest mistake stick out) really go to show your timing is absolutely dead on. Amazing cover dude!
I loved the cover. I see this was published in 2011 and you were an amazing musician back there. I can't imagine the beast you must be now. Amazing cover. Thx for sharing this
Personally I like the stick flips, maybe it's more of a habit than for show. He does play in TWA so doing live shows with them I don't see as to why the stick flips seem arrogant or cocky? It's to put on a show and that's what he did. There's no "worlds best drummer" or "perfect cover" on here. It's all just for fun, of course there was a few slip ups but nevertheless pretty solid, not one of his best covers but still good.
I never comment on videos, but I had to make an exception. The fact you do not take lessons, and the way you're killing this song is so impressive. I can't even imagine how hard it would be. Props.
No comments about your comments... It was 5 years ago when he was 18. If he would want, Luke can record a new version of that cover, and it will definitely better, but for what? ;)
prometheusxc Even though the performance wasn't all that bad, I just can't bring myself to enjoy it at all. That snare right there proves the existence of hell.
Dude this is ridiculous. I always saw CAFO as the impossible track to crack. Watching this sure brings things in perspective. Gives me the motivation to just go for it.
No, there would be zero dislikes if people weren't jealous of his level of talent. He can do stick tricks constantly throughout the video and still play nearly perfectly. You may not personally like it, but doing stick tricks live really adds to the show.
holy shit, i watched this over like 4 times to break apart each part to see how hard this is, and i am amazed, this guy is really good. also the drummer who made this song is a genius
it takes away from the ghost notes he could be adding, or anything else could add, its limiting and only for the viewer, but he is about that now so people want redos
I think he does a fantastic job. I'm working on this song right now, and watching this has helped a lot. No need for the grow up comment, this guy is 18 and doing an amazing job.
I don't think personally it matters, for him to be able to flash the way he does and still maintain the complexity of the piece is fantastic. Flashing just comes with with the flow of the music.
i can't tell if it's the snare from the original track, or someone tried to slide late/early snare hits and i'm still hearing the original bleed through from other mics.
Cassio Moreira 2 years late on the original comment but I think the double snare is latency on a trigger for the snare maybe. every other drum is in time but the snare sounds a millisecond late almost all the time.
WTFFFFF. HOW IS THIS POSSSIBLEEEEEEEEEEE Sick cover man I've watched this like 10 times now and can't get over how clean u can play this monster of a song.
I love how you did the beginning mate, I'm used to people going crazy on gravity's at the intro, but your way not only sounds better, but also makes this song less impossible to play. Thanks man, and keep it up!
I'm so glad that you did this cover. My favorite by far and away. Plus this is one of the absolute most impressive showcases of musicianship on TH-cam, imo. Kudos to you, Luke. Also, I'm so stoked to hear that you might do a Periphery cover!
thats great! when i began my hands weren't straight, the thumb would be on top instead on the side, when later i found out the way your are supposed to hold the stick and positioning, everything became so much better
I can see how tired he is. There was even a moment he obviously almost ran out of breath. But still, he managed to finish the song though it wasn't perfect, it was still great!
Awesome drumming! Looks like you were going to pass out at about 2 minutes into the song with the mouth breathing and the half open eyes. Thanks for almost dying of heatstroke to bring us this awesome drum cover!
Dude, as a fellow drummer who has attempted to play this song, I must say this is fucking impressive. And I won't hate on the stick tricks because as long as you can pull them off without it hurting your playing then I think it's pretty cool. Also I like that you added your own fills at the end, having covered songs I frequently like to add my own things on top of the regular beats, so I respect that! Anyway, fantastic cover man :)
August burns red sometimes plays in odd times. Like 5/4, 7/4 or even 15/16. But Animals as Leaders usually play in bigger, or more complex times. And often in polymeter which is two or more time signatures going on simultaneously.
This song is a monster, screw everybody giving negative comments. Really, you did an awesome job, one of the better covers of this song on TH-cam. I live in Arizona also, but I'm more of a marching band-type drummer. :P But seriously, amazing cover, hopefully you make some more AAL in the future. :)
@LukeHollandDrums that sucks man, I love your videos though you just amaze me, Ive learned some little parts of this song (on drums and guitar) and that part with the groups of 5's on the kick is damn hard, you do it really well!!!
The drums for this song weren't written by the drummer for AAL they were written by Tosin, and programmed by the producer. The guy that plays drums now had to learn all the parts. theres actually a video of him screwing up at a concert and having to start the song over :) Tosin was actually really cool about it.
120 degree arizona weather. and to think i thoight the sweat accumilating throughout this cover was because you were actually trying... lol still an awesome cover. your 1 of the best already man. a true prodigy.
Im glad someone else gets it. Don't get me wrong, CAFO is a hell of a song and I can't play it, but visuals should always come second to playing the part. I seriously doubt it's a deal with another mic picking up snare shots unless he's playing in a very large studio with no dampening (curtains, foam, etc) on the walls.
damn you do an incredible job of matching stick heights. like around in the first part of the video when you do a right hand visual and switch to left to hit the china. it sounds the same as if youre hitting it with the right. and thats how it is with all of your visuals. veery nice
Disagree with you partially there, but I'll let you have your opinion. I like it when it tunes up the performance, I went to uproar a few years back and Haelstorm was playing, who i'd never heard of at the time, and they were going crazy and throwing sticks up 20 ft. in air. Was super fun to watch
Maybe the next drummer of AAL!! I personally didn't realize what things that you put at AAL songs if you never heard Matt's versions and that is ecxiting to wait for it.I wish you do some similar if they don't want you but you can give an option to AAL to have 2 drummers!!
I think this one deserves a redo Luke
lol how'd this get 116 likes without replies........ well here yah go
No disrespect meant of course. Would be cool to see how you play this song 6 years later.
why'd you reply to me with that....... lol did i just remind you to add another comment
Wasn't a reply to you. But yes you did
well my request of redoing it would be to Animals as leaders instead haha
The fact that the drums on Animals as Leaders entire first album are programmed (which means the drums are literally in perfect time, and will make the slightest mistake stick out) really go to show your timing is absolutely dead on. Amazing cover dude!
The progress you have made in the last 5 years is incredible. GJ
the snare sounds like a stone
yeah it sounds like he's drumming on a rock.
So, it has the best Tom Morello's guitar solo?
He was once 250 pounds...
After practicing CAFO three days straight...
...he now weighs only 15.
#someonesendfoodtothisguy
I loved the cover. I see this was published in 2011 and you were an amazing musician back there. I can't imagine the beast you must be now. Amazing cover. Thx for sharing this
REDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE M9
Just came from your arithmophobia cover.... the change and progress is so incredibly impressive. I'd love to see you redo this one.

No comments about your comments... It was 5 years ago when he was 18. If he would want, Luke can record a new version of that cover, and it will definitely better, but for what? ;)
Can we just appreciate the fact that this guy had the balls to even cover CAFO?
That snare sounds sooooo bad.
None of it sounds good tbh, but got damn that snare especially sounds like shit.
prometheusxc Even though the performance wasn't all that bad, I just can't bring myself to enjoy it at all.
That snare right there proves the existence of hell.
Compare that to the snare in his Dark Matter cover.
why I think its good
Every time he hits the snare a Balloon is gone
Dude this is ridiculous.
I always saw CAFO as the impossible track to crack.
Watching this sure brings things in perspective.
Gives me the motivation to just go for it.
as a drummer myself, i know that the stick flips after a while just become a habit. sometimes you dont even know when your doing it
No, there would be zero dislikes if people weren't jealous of his level of talent. He can do stick tricks constantly throughout the video and still play nearly perfectly. You may not personally like it, but doing stick tricks live really adds to the show.
why does the snare sound like he is hitting a brand new box of korn flakes?
Theres no reason for people to dislike this video other than for jealousy. He looks so comfortable behind the kit.
well damn, that's bold covering one of the most progressive songs of the decade
That is such a hectic song. Stupidly hectic. Luke, you done good.
If you can keep up with Tosin you already won.
dude this is nasty, by far your hardest cover (or most technical song it seems)... you are a beast, my friend.
Why can't we just appreciate this? It's a great song and a great cover.
This guy is one of the best drummers I know! Big ups!
Be sick if you redid this cover without the stick tricks and put all your focus into your playing. Beautiful cover regardless.
This would be valid if it actually affected the performance
holy shit, i watched this over like 4 times to break apart each part to see how hard this is, and i am amazed, this guy is really good. also the drummer who made this song is a genius
I dont know what you guys are sayin, I think the stick tricks are pretty sick
I agree
it takes away from the ghost notes he could be adding, or anything else could add, its limiting and only for the viewer, but he is about that now so people want redos
@@JTMDrummingwhy? What will that do? Why not just stick to the original song and NOT add extra shit?
I think he does a fantastic job. I'm working on this song right now, and watching this has helped a lot. No need for the grow up comment, this guy is 18 and doing an amazing job.
Needs more stick flips.
I don't think personally it matters, for him to be able to flash the way he does and still maintain the complexity of the piece is fantastic. Flashing just comes with with the flow of the music.
i see very much double snare in audio...i'm right ?
i can't tell if it's the snare from the original track, or someone tried to slide late/early snare hits and i'm still hearing the original bleed through from other mics.
Cassio Moreira 2 years late on the original comment but I think the double snare is latency on a trigger for the snare maybe. every other drum is in time but the snare sounds a millisecond late almost all the time.
Awesome job young man. You have got to be one of the most technically proficient drummers I've seen in a very long time. Rock on!
too much focus on stick throws...
Say it again
WTFFFFF. HOW IS THIS POSSSIBLEEEEEEEEEEE
Sick cover man I've watched this like 10 times now and can't get over how clean u can play this monster of a song.
Snare? ):
I love how you did the beginning mate, I'm used to people going crazy on gravity's at the intro, but your way not only sounds better, but also makes this song less impossible to play. Thanks man, and keep it up!
That snare sounds like gonorrhea. The cover sounds better.
Mate this is friggin amasing considering i heard the drums were programmed on the album and not actually played! Bloody good job champ!!
that snare tho
poop snare
I'm so glad that you did this cover. My favorite by far and away. Plus this is one of the absolute most impressive showcases of musicianship on TH-cam, imo. Kudos to you, Luke.
Also, I'm so stoked to hear that you might do a Periphery cover!
Great playing, shitty snare sound, even shittier headphones. Mah 2 cents
shut the fuck up and do a better cover
HezeKiah Ocean he was just saying the snare sounds bad.
dude straight up,you snare sounds like angel voice...i wish i had your kit, and your studio kit. there set up prime
amazing cover btw
so far one of hardest songs to play dude great job! keep it up!
I think flipping the sticks on top of playing this is impressive.. Great job man!!
This young man is unbelivable ! Wich you the best for your future.
thats great! when i began my hands weren't straight, the thumb would be on top instead on the side, when later i found out the way your are supposed to hold the stick and positioning, everything became so much better
baby luke has come so far
I've been watching this kid grow into the little killer he is today. Happy for your success ma
this is just awesome. ive seen all of your drum covers. this amazes me. all of your covers do.
I appreciate how much work you put into this cover man. Tough to pull off, great job.
i find it weird that this has less views than ur other videos
and yet, this is the best band so far on ur channel imo
fuck you
I can't believe we're the same age, we're both drummers and you kick my ass so hard, it disappoints me
I can see how tired he is.
1:17 sick for being able to get the kicks between the hi hat every second bar on that part, you know what time sig that section is in?
As good as you are Luke, no man alive can make this look "easy". Fantastic job.. wish I was half the drummer you are.
the name Luke Holland will be known as a famous drummer youtube sensation one day !! fantastic performance mate !! XD
my goodness...i..i cant even comprehend how amazing that was.
Idk About you guys but I love the snare, it fits the song perfectly
This was really sick. I enjoyed every second of it.
Good job, Luke!
Well done Luke, very impressive & only made the more harder with that heat!
Excellent.
Oh my gosh! Sooooo much respect to anyone who can cover this song. Way to go!
The hard part about AAL songs isn't necessarily playing it, its memorizing it haha. Good job!
All these people complaining are ridiculous... Bro you are a monster! Keep it up my man. Looking for for what's to come!!!
If I remember correctly CAFO alone uses 9/4, 8/4, 6/4, 5/4, 4/4, 3/4, 2/4. Most of the tapping is in 5/4, and the solo is in 4/4(?)
sick cover!! im guessing what the way your snare sounds like a flam everytime you hit it is the audio editing mistake?
You're an inspiration. I wish I could be as dedicated to things in my life as you are to your drumming.
Love the way his snare sounds
i knew you were good, like really good, so i looked at your vids and you did an Animals as Leaders cover! damn dude, you're nuts

I really have no idea about drums, but I do plan on learning it. How hard would this song be?
Best drum cover of this song on youtube! Good job!
Go check out Troy wright do it. It's flawless
Absolutely amazing shit dude. Any chance you think you could conquer weightless with the solo? Troy Wright killed it I'd love to see what you can do.
i'm not saying i can do better, i'm saying he's sloppy. i'm not the one making a cafo cover, he is the one that made it
All of his cymbals are Meinl. You can go to their website and find it.
is that the natural sound of this ddrum drum kit.? it really sounds great here:)
That snare sounds sooooo clean omg
This song is a monster, screw everybody giving negative comments. Really, you did an awesome job, one of the better covers of this song on TH-cam. I live in Arizona also, but I'm more of a marching band-type drummer. :P But seriously, amazing cover, hopefully you make some more AAL in the future. :)
I was gonna reply to him in a very similar fashion, but then I saw that you took care of it rather nicely. Good on ya!
We get it luke ! You play the drums !
@LukeHollandDrums that sucks man, I love your videos though you just amaze me, Ive learned some little parts of this song (on drums and guitar) and that part with the groups of 5's on the kick is damn hard, you do it really well!!!
Props for playing such a difficult song, but still- flams. Flams everywhere.

The guy that plays drums now had to learn all the parts. theres actually a video of him screwing up at a concert and having to start the song over :) Tosin was actually really cool about it.
The Drummer from Animals as Leaders is a fucking machine. absolutely incredible. I suggest everybody look him up. nice cover man!
I give this guy props for how little he sweated. Shit, I usually break into a sweat just listening to Animals as Leaders.
120 degree arizona weather. and to think i thoight the sweat accumilating throughout this cover was because you were actually trying... lol still an awesome cover. your 1 of the best already man. a true prodigy.
Even the mixing is spot on, very well done.
Im glad someone else gets it. Don't get me wrong, CAFO is a hell of a song and I can't play it, but visuals should always come second to playing the part. @2und2sind4 I think it's two snare hits with for bass hits then 2 snare hits alternating back and fourth but his kick is really fast.
Vater Sticks is fkn awesome! The snare sound unmixed! uuuewww
how are you better than every band you cover?! i think you're an alien.
Nice cover! Are you using a diff mic for your snare? if not, sounds like its really close or somethin
You got my like...i don't care much for all the tricks of stick flipping and shit, but you make it look good and easy. Awesome vid, dude.
Nice job on the fill at the end--you are drippin sweat dude haha. Well done.
Such a hard beat to master, and you have done it my friend!
Arent those your cymbals, but a studio kit right?
Maybe the next drummer of AAL!! I personally didn't realize what things that you put at AAL songs if you never heard Matt's versions and that is ecxiting to wait for it.I wish you do some similar if they don't want you but you can give an option to AAL to have 2 drummers!!
