I'm being completely honest here - that was the first time that Luke has really impressed me. There were no stick tricks, nothing over the top. He replicated the part perfectly, and more importantly with groove. It didn't seem robotic. And he really nailed the double bass section. Props man.
This is the most hardest song you have ever covered (IMO) and you nailed it. The Joy of Motion has a very complex drum work and I love Matt's play style. I'm very glad to see you tried this and you had met Matt, he is my favourite drummer and I'm sure he is no dissapointed with the final result. Very good job. This song is dope.
I know, I just don't really understand what makes this song SO hard. I feel like he's covered more technical stuff. i watched the video twice, and while complex, and I couldn't play it, it didn't seem that mind-glowingly hard aside 2 or 3 small places.
EthanMayFilms It's the exact type of song that doesn't seem complex unless you play drums and try and play it. This song has some fucking WEIRD grooves in it.
EthanMayFilms No, it is. Timing and the little things like ghosts and when to lead to new sections are what make this piece stand apart. You need full body control with every limb to be able to pull off what AaL does.
Tita nik I've had a go at learning a few AAL songs, and while i can play none of them well enough to put a cover up on youtube, i had more trouble learning CAFO and Wave of Babies that this song. I think for me it's just that they have some more obscure time signatures and parts, whereas this song has some more straightforward parts. Spent ages getting the feet right for that breakdown though, dayum.
It feels so weird coming back to some of the older videos and just seeing the jelly fish again. makes me feel old as a fan and I'm (not much) younger than you. The good ol' days!
Luke always takes his drumming too a level i cant even comprehend in my head! You are beautiful & your playing technique is beyond Perfect!!! I love you, you are my inspiration to drums
he is self taught!! That is nothing?? How many guys played like this and noone teach thems how to do it??For god shakes do you count this guy with Matt Garstka from Berklee college of music??It's the same thing??
Can't understand how 54 people can dislike this? It's a flawless cover, if you're looking for a different interpretation of the song plenty of other drummers will try it and if it's not your thing why watch? You're a fuckin hero Luke, keep em coming :)
David Murphy It isn’t flawless, not by a long shot, not that I can talk lol, but luke sure is amazing without a doubt, he learned this song in 3 days by air drumming and this was the first time he had played it on a kit
One thing I noticed is how fluid you are. This is an extremely complicated song and although you are extremely focused you don't look robotic or tense the entire song. Thats impressive.
:D I love animals as leaders, awesome cover! I remember watching Luke's videos before he was in the word alive and I've been listening to the word alive since Deceiver.
Anyone ever gets a chance. Learn from Luke. Get a lesson or talk with him. Very informative and helpful. Cool meeting you again Luke and thanks for the meeting at BandHappy tent. Great job on this cover, I know Matt is happy.
You fucking killed it! Probably my favorite song on the album, at least one of them. Mostly because of pattern of the kick pattern on that section. Had to listen through it a couple of times to really get that pattern. Awesome performance!
Se que lo más probable es que no comprendas el Español, pero mi Ingles no es muy bueno y esto merece una ovación de pie. No es nada sencillo tocar algo de las bestias de Animal's. Te quedo perfecto, excelente trabajo.
this is the best aal cover, regardless of instrument. I've been watching many guitar covers of wowen web, they just put the original song loud and imitate tosin's fingers, but this is true playing. matt's style is hard to play as much as tosin's. congratulations man 👍
I dont mean to be an asshole but actually this cover blows. I know Luke's skill is beyond anything I can dream to accomplish, but he butchered this song. Just listen to the way Matt plays the ride during the first couple bars. Luke just played a super lazy simplified version of the song. I mean as I said I'm in no position to criticise but don't give him the props he doesn't deserve.
Really great job on this one! You should tackle Lippincott when you're ready. It's probably my favorite song by AAL off their new album and a bit part of that is the crazy drum work.
I sometimes think they called the song like that because they had they idea to do the part starting from 1:19 with the kicks and the the bass. So fast and then still the rythm but it sounded so well so they wanted to make it even if it hurts in your foot/arm. :D A woven web you cannot escape of.
elasdickband027 They record the bass for the recording, and they just play the recorded track live. A bass can go way lower than an 8 string can, and it will sound better too.
elasdickband027 That sucks :/ if they had a really talented bass player i feel like they would be a super group. Well i mean theyre already incredible but bass is always fun to throw into places.
Just a request, but I would love to hear you attempt The Faceless, Xenochrist. The drumming on that is just beyond amazing. You're more then capable of reaching that skill level of playing. I would just love to see it! Haha.
Luke I had a question when you cover these songs do you get any of them without the original drum track or is it still in there.. It's hard to get the perfect balance with the original drums on there still at times. just wondering.. Thanks
I'm glad Matt kept his hands busy enough to not do a stupid stick trick during the song, but of course he had to in the end -_- Amazing Drummer! Yet cursed with a terrible pact with gravity.
I'm being completely honest here - that was the first time that Luke has really impressed me. There were no stick tricks, nothing over the top. He replicated the part perfectly, and more importantly with groove. It didn't seem robotic. And he really nailed the double bass section. Props man.
1:31 the "Groove Concentration Face"... We've all been there...
I once spent 9:31 there. xD It was quite a song to attempt. Was fucking amazing when I finished it though.
Red Fox What song are you talking about? Just curious.
Annihilation Of The Wicked by Nile.
The moment of zen
You nailed "THAT RIFF" section man! Awesome cover :)
everyone know what riff you are talking about ;)
This is the most hardest song you have ever covered (IMO) and you nailed it. The Joy of Motion has a very complex drum work and I love Matt's play style. I'm very glad to see you tried this and you had met Matt, he is my favourite drummer and I'm sure he is no dissapointed with the final result.
Very good job. This song is dope.
This was amazing! You should do "Physical Education". I'd love to see that!!
YES. or Mind Spun
Best song off of that album.
Yes!
My favorite from AAL
Just saw a preview of him doing it! YESSS!
I knew when you announced that you'd found a hard song that it would be AAL :D
They're so technical it hurts my brain lol.
I know, I just don't really understand what makes this song SO hard. I feel like he's covered more technical stuff. i watched the video twice, and while complex, and I couldn't play it, it didn't seem that mind-glowingly hard aside 2 or 3 small places.

1:30 That is a philthy kick pattern O.o
Six people are absolutely clueless about quality music and talent. Luke you're a boss
It feels so weird coming back to some of the older videos and just seeing the jelly fish again. makes me feel old as a fan and I'm (not much) younger than you. The good ol' days!
The groove he plays with the double bass patterns with triplets thrown in, all while riding the china crash, are sooo sick!!!
Your drum kit sounds soooooo good! Love the dry meinls.
That breakdown is literally one of the most creative I've ever heard. Nice job on killin' it!
Excellent! I can't imagine trying to memorize all of that. Great work!
Luke always takes his drumming too a level i cant even comprehend in my head! You are beautiful & your playing technique is beyond Perfect!!! I love you, you are my inspiration to drums
You have definitlely upped the standard and the level of drumming in my opinion ,you are very talented!!!
Man, you should do Tooth and Claw. I wanna learn it correctly and you're the best drummer out there to do a cover of it IMO
+Poppa Punker Matt Gartska himself covers it.
Sam Rosenau I know. I wrote this comment before Matt came out with that video.
+Poppa Punker Awesome. Thought I'd just make sure.
i ve started learning tooth and claw now
oh HELL YES, and troy wright doing stengah? life is good
I wish both of them to do covers of every song of the new AAL album!! are just blowminds!!
You probably know that.....Matt Gartska actually does the main parts with three 16 notes on the ride leading not 8s but thats a whole another level :D
Bobb .Channel kinda can't believe he didn't do that. Luke even talks about in his drumeo lesson that he loves that technique.
Circles Clark well he learned the song in three days and this was the first time he played itnon a drum set
he is self taught!! That is nothing?? How many guys played like this and noone teach thems how to do it??For god shakes do you count this guy with Matt Garstka from Berklee college of music??It's the same thing??
awesome 😃
where can we see this video in 4k?
YES!! I have a buddy who did this song for one of his exit exams in school! Super challenging song, well done!
That tuning was awesome !
that tattoo is so new it looks like a sticker...
I hadn't seen one of your covers in awhile. You've improved so much more. The feels are there. Keep it up and congrats!
Can't understand how 54 people can dislike this? It's a flawless cover, if you're looking for a different interpretation of the song plenty of other drummers will try it and if it's not your thing why watch?
You're a fuckin hero Luke, keep em coming :)
+David Murphy Jealously... simple
David Murphy It isn’t flawless, not by a long shot, not that I can talk lol, but luke sure is amazing without a doubt, he learned this song in 3 days by air drumming and this was the first time he had played it on a kit
Amazing work Luke. That kit sounds very natural and nice, love it, especially the snare!
this is by far my favorite right now
I can't stop doing sour face. The groove of this song specially the slap riff
One thing I noticed is how fluid you are. This is an extremely complicated song and although you are extremely focused you don't look robotic or tense the entire song. Thats impressive.
I recently payed homage to the great Luke Holland and Matt Gartska by covering this song on my channel. Amazing cover of an amazing song, Luke!
:D I love animals as leaders, awesome cover! I remember watching Luke's videos before he was in the word alive and I've been listening to the word alive since Deceiver.
You have no idea how happy I am that you're doing an AAL cover!
Anyone ever gets a chance. Learn from Luke. Get a lesson or talk with him. Very informative and helpful. Cool meeting you again Luke and thanks for the meeting at BandHappy tent. Great job on this cover, I know Matt is happy.
Wow! Spot on man! Matt has definitely rubbed off on you with those licks you said he taught you!
Luke! Great job on this, that rhythm at 1:27 is so mind blowing.
You should cover something by Reflections! That'd be so awesome :D
How do you get time to do drum covers you know with being on warped and all?
Okay but for real can you try a cover of Architects
Architects isn't all that hard. Hollow crown and stuff previous to that is but anything after the here and now is pretty accomplishable.
Nick Markellos Yeah, he's not implying that Architects is hard or harder than this, he just wants to see a cover of one of their songs
SOMEONE DID IT YES! Really wanted to see Troy Wright do this as well BUT YES LUKE THANK YOU
1:25 - 1:53 the hardest part
You fucking killed it! Probably my favorite song on the album, at least one of them. Mostly because of pattern of the kick pattern on that section. Had to listen through it a couple of times to really get that pattern. Awesome performance!
Best Luke's cover so far
Very well done. Glad to see how much you progressed in just 2 years
It never gets old one of the greatest of our time!!
props on your ability to really listen and breakdown the songs structure.
Props dude 🤘🏽 Garstka is a fucking beast. Congrats to anyone that can tackle that shit. He’s no joke
Nicely done man! This is my favorite song on the album so I was pumped when this popped up in my feed =D
1:31 that struggle man, very good cover Luke :D
CLEAN. sick stuff once again man! Garstka would be proud
Well, was exactly what I expected. He killed it and it was nuts.
I don't think there is any way that anyone could ever doubt Luke's talent as a musician. This video is a smack in the face to all the haters!
Se que lo más probable es que no comprendas el Español, pero mi Ingles no es muy bueno y esto merece una ovación de pie. No es nada sencillo tocar algo de las bestias de Animal's. Te quedo perfecto, excelente trabajo.
beautiful song and cover. great work and i look forward to seeing more videos in the future
this is the best aal cover, regardless of instrument. I've been watching many guitar covers of wowen web, they just put the original song loud and imitate tosin's fingers, but this is true playing. matt's style is hard to play as much as tosin's. congratulations man 👍

Very impressive footwork to keep hits with the slap rhythm part. Great work as always bro.
Really great job on this one! You should tackle Lippincott when you're ready. It's probably my favorite song by AAL off their new album and a bit part of that is the crazy drum work.

This is... A whole other level.
Luke You should do a drum solo video!!! The way you do things musically are so impressive
This is simply absurd. Mind-bogglingly good.
Congratulations for another 10/10 cover
Cover Fleshgod Apocalypse please
He can't
i love all the covers from animals as leaders that you do
hella precise dude, nice work! master of ghost notes
Those feet skills though, that palm mute part is tricky as shit to me, but you nailed it. Keep rocking Luke!
Footwork soo good. I'm inspired. Thanks Luke
Kaskade please. Great job on this one!
Great job man, one of your best in a while imo, is your foot pattern the same for that tech base line or did u wing that?
***** You don't need a bassist to have a bass line. 8 strings can create bass-lines too.
***** Coulda sworn ive seen a bassist in one of their live shows?? Could be worng
BuLLeT2431 They used to have a bassist but I'm pretty sure they fired him because his register was covered by 8 strings anyway.
elasdickband027 They record the bass for the recording, and they just play the recorded track live. A bass can go way lower than an 8 string can, and it will sound better too.
elasdickband027 That sucks :/ if they had a really talented bass player i feel like they would be a super group. Well i mean theyre already incredible but bass is always fun to throw into places.
absolutely slaying that footwork at 1:27. proooooooooooooops
Just a request, but I would love to hear you attempt The Faceless, Xenochrist. The drumming on that is just beyond amazing. You're more then capable of reaching that skill level of playing. I would just love to see it! Haha.
100% on Expert. You are ranked #1 on The Rock Band leaderboard.
Fucking sick!!! my favorite song of the new album! please please please do more covers of this amazing album!
You dug into this song well, I know the feeling.
im really impresed this song has incredible drum complexity and im stuned on how you pulled this off
You've gotten a lot cleaner than the last time i watched on of your covers "CAFO". Good work.
The groove is strong on this one... i love it dude so tight
New favorite cover, nice job Luke!
+LukeHollandDrums why does every one hate on you man ? Your amazing.
jesus christ i found your video by accident, man you are a beast. awesome work.
damn luke I just bought this album, never thought i'd see you cover anything off it
Such a well rounded drummer.
About time an AAL song!
Such a Drumgod!!!! Biggest Talent ever....
Amazing cover and amazing song choice, Luke.
Matt Garstka would be proud of you, Luke ;) Great job, as always
Dang, I have no idea where to even start to cover a track like this! Nice work! Memorizing this would be a nightmare
Nice! Favorite track from the album!
Luke I had a question when you cover these songs do you get any of them without the original drum track or is it still in there.. It's hard to get the perfect balance with the original drums on there still at times. just wondering.. Thanks
i almost never like videos, but i have to do so for this one because its AAL and its so unbelievable
My favorite off the album for sure. Hell every song is my favorite.:P
Here in 2021 and I’m still impressed with what Luke can do with 3 nights in a hotel room
awesome drum play and song
I'm glad Matt kept his hands busy enough to not do a stupid stick trick during the song, but of course he had to in the end -_- Amazing Drummer! Yet cursed with a terrible pact with gravity.
he's just chillin in the pocket. very nice, clean cover
Bro your technique is amazing
Nice camera angle on the final stick trick!
Every little thing in this song and cover is very well !! ;)... Perfect !!
Incredible!! AAL covers are the best!
Maybe the best drummer on youtube!
This is like heaven
holy sheep, this is flawless. New favorite drummer next to John Bonham, Matt Halpern, Neil Pert, and Anup Sastry...!
shit, tfw forgets Blake Richardson of Between The Buried And Me, as well as Ale Rudinger of The Faceless......
Not that those aren't great drummers.. but you should really expand your musical horizons lol
Lucas Jenkins jesus christ this is fantastic
Alex F I'm actually honored that someone can appreciate that.
Lucas Jenkins you're sick, let's be friends
