    "The joy comes not from comparison but from advancement."
    wow, just wow.
    That hit like a brick for a millennial that worries about views,shares and like counts when improving my skills would be far more rewarding on a personal, self development level.
    Thanks Simon! Thanks CreativeMornings HQ!

      Chris-Anthony Pinnock the absolute worse thing about simon sinek and i do mean just disgustingly disturbing is that he cant be everywhere and anytime and there just arent enough people like him. i would drive a 3 state radius to watch this man speak in person.

    damn he is good, he is my favorite speaker. he is so charismatic and has a special vibe about himself. he knows our generation so well, he is very specific and hits just the spot with what millennials are facing. i wanna learn social skills, develop meaningful friendships and relationship, but i am shy and afraid of rejection why is why i am so struggling to find a girlfriend or a job that will give me financial independence...i want to, i am ambitious, care deeply even though i shouldnt sometimes etc but my mindset/brain needs rewiring

    "It's not about outdoing others, it's about how to outdo yourself" +" you ARE your competition" one of the amazing things about this if taken to it's logical conclusion and if it is significant in it's value (not uniqueness) is you become incomparable and that becomes a source of immense security in oneself and in a world of chaos/lostness, and when it does reach others immense fulfillment.

    We need as individual genders to heal/repair the world's within us FIRST before we dare to begin to fix/repair the WORLDS around US.
    Why else are there more people living as individuals alone than ever before?
    Because you(as an individual) need to figure out you and what you want to be known for and identified with before you decide what you want your city/town/state/country to be known for and identified with.
    That is the first hard work I believe Mr Sinek is really referring to before anything else.

    Taking Responsibility
    Simon, I'm so glad I listened to this talk. You repeatedly said, "We are taking a generation..." I think what you really meant to say was, "We are taking responsibility..." I think (in many of your talks) you stop just short of saying this. And it's not a bad thing...but I think you personally have grown to the place where you are beyond trying to be heard, you are beyond inspiring. You have adequately diagnosed the problem over and over again...the next level of your talks is to teach social behavior. Don't talk about why we lack social behavior, teach us what it looks like to have good social structure.
    The best example I can give is you have to describe to those of us who have lived and worked in the coal mines of our current American culture how to exit the mines and adjust to the light. You know...you have inspired me time and time again. My way of changing my immediate world is to greet at least two people I don't know everyday and make it a genuine greet with full inviting eye contract. I have learned to make it personal, but the problem (as you have pointed out many times) is we live in a culture of escapism and apathetic reality because we are a nation of addicts addicted to numbing our conscience so we don't feel a sense of responsibility. But how do we change that when it is fed to us through every second of media influx in everyday of our lives?

  • @fredbehrens8426
    @fredbehrens8426 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I forwarded this video to my 19 year old Daughter Arianna and that is what she texted me: I watched the video about millennials and it was refreshing to hear points that support that we're not all egotistical assholes because of technology but that it's because we've been told we can do anything since we were younger, and we figure out that in the real world we're not made to feel special, and all we have is ourselves to be happy, and so many people don't know how to find happiness within themselves so so many are depressed. We wont "achieve" happiness from this end goal wayyy in the future, we have to find things that make us happy everyday, and the most fulfilling habits are the healthy ones that don't involve other substances for a short term gain or to numb your emotions, its the habits that help other people, when you connect with the right people, and nourishing our passions that make us happy

      With all due respect, I believe Mr Sinek is best positioned to help the greatest number of people from his "current situation" outside the formal political restraints of an Office like the US Presidency where he is subject to many hundreds of filters all designed to dilute and disintegrate his core message.
      Thankfully, I think he realizes this particular pitfall and has carefully avoided his message becoming marginalized by a too-restrictive job entitlement.
      A job entitlement that would no doubt choke the life from his real mission/message while he is engaging in the "thick of thin/superficial things" as some kind of figure-head, nes pas?

  • @doriendbma2001
    @doriendbma2001 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I'm born in 1970 but for a long time shared most of the Milennial characteristics, having discovered alcohol as a coping strategy at the age of 16. I was fortunate to have a very caring employer during the first 5 years of my career and, though it helped to keep my stresslevels down, it did little I think for my personal growth. Eventually I had to hit rock bottom at the age of 35 before I was willing to learn new coping skills. My feeling is that it might be the same for a lot of milennials.. they will need to hit rock bottom before they'll become willing to change... and, in order for them to get to that place, offering a supportive environment alone might not be enough.

    hi - Love Simon's views and communication skills. A bit troubled when his best advice to millennial gen, though, is to wait for the corporate culture to change. Makes sense to state to corporate leadership teams that they need to take responsibility for changing things; I have no problem with that message when the audience receiving it are those in charge. But people in the younger generation encountering these types of challenges need some advice on what they themselves can do to build better coping strategies, to define realistic missions, to develop self-confidence and patience, and to reach out for mentors within their companies. I hate to think that we've got an entire generation waiting for the corporate world to "come around" to fixing things, because I don't believe that has a high likelihood of happening any time soon.
