What a wonderful way to honor and remember Mike McCoy. I am sure his family will cherish the wood sign that you made for him Mark. I have often heard black oak referred to as “Sour Oak” because of the strong stomach acid smell that comes from the fresh sawn lumber. Actually, that was a decent black oak log. It made some really nice material. Great sawing video gentlemen!
Love the videos - especially this format where you show the loading of the logs onto the mill. Just got into woodworking like 6 months ago and it’s a full blown addiction now acquiring new tools and watching videos to get ideas
Hi Mark my name is Paul English and i am from Australia. I have worked in saw mills for a long time and retired 20 years and the mills hear have all mostly shut down but i still like the sound of the saw when i witch your video's you do all the time. Hop you keep doing them as it brings back a lot of meres of when i worked in the mills. keep up the good work and say hi to Eddie and ZZ for me.
I think you've mentioned that ZZ Mark does projects with the cast-off pieces. Some of the bits have great character. Maybe some future opening of one of your videos, he could bring a few Show & Tells? And maybe someday a short clip of Eddie's outbuilding.
Black birch is also my favorite and ive never seen anyone saw one up into boards, never been done then,as far as i can find,so please, saw a black birch,it looks alot like black cherry, and most people cant tell the difference. Could you find one please, you wont be disappointed.Very beautiful wood inside
"Smell-a-Vision" would be great on the cherry. It is always good to see you guys at work. I am glad that you sold some plaques. My brother got his but he is still on vacation. When it gets warm out I hope to make some new metal art. I just picked up some metal scraps from the city recycle center. New steel is very expensive.
Nice job lovely grain in them boards , getting my bonus from the parlour job Sunday dinner roast beef Yorkshire pudding three veg mashed potato and gravy very nice had to miss out on desert apple pie and custard one of the draw backs of being a diabetic, have nice day guys
What type of tree, wood,is people's favorite? Mine, visually, is Black Cherry,it beautiful if it's from Vermont. Functionality wise,Maple is my favorite because of syrup, maple syrup, not that fake trash people buy in stores, when northerners work butts off,to make syrup.Hard hard work that goes largely unnoticed.

I don’t see a CC button so you might want to check that the option is still available on your site. Thanks always for the great videos and informative explanations of what is going on.
Please, can you place captions on the video. Or at least explain why you don't. Hard of hearing and with the sawmill noise, can't hear what you are saying. This is my favorite sawmill videos! Thanks for listening,
There is a delay before TH-cam processes the video and puts captions on it. Right now, 20 hours from the video being published, there are no captions available. I will check again tomorrow and update if the captions are on.

holiday next monday in USA and Canada, dont know about England do know when the Queen Elizabeth was 3 years old she was asked ''whats your name'' she replied... Lillabett....... and that name was given to a recent child in the royal family ''LILLABETT''
Have you seen a TH-cam channel Temple Hill sawmill the guy that runs it has Mike McCoys old Frick mill I watched a few of his videos, and it’s nice to see Mike’s old Mill, running again!
Great team work as usual, what is your opinion on the feet per minute you’ve chosen for your saw? We are running in the higher end at almost 10,000’ and we are cutting primarily softwoods. I’ve been told to run slower for hardwoods but then obviously the saw tuned for 750rpm wobbles if we reduce speed any.
You should get a second small laser and mount it horizontally on the wall by the licence plates pointing at the end of the log and compare both lasers so you know how high the saw cuts would be when milling bigger logs.
Mark, for the first log, was it the crook or the limbs that dictated where you start? Something you might try-unless the crook is horrible, on logs like the first one with big limbs, I try to put the limb on a corner of a cant which often times takes "most" of the knot off in the waste. Just a suggestion you might look at if you don't already. Love the videos.
Hey mark does it matter which end of the log you put towards the blade ? Stump end or other end ? Did you get new machine for edging out boards yet think that what they call it
@@markgalicic7788 so I guess that’s why I see you stop and make a 4x4 or a 3x3 post. And you know me being a carpenter I should have known that.. but most of the time I already get the wood cut, and all I do is cut it and put it on the wall.
I don't know why this is so pleasurable to observe.

Thank you gentlemen. I always enjoy watching you.
glad you liked it Becca.

That second piece off the second side would make a cool clock!

@@markgalicic7788 that's the one. 👍

Hi to all from just north of Houston, Texas. Gorgeous day. Always enjoy a little sawin’ vid to relax.
Good morning from Baldivis Western Australia.
good morning Andrew.
This brings back memories of a band called Black Oak, Arkansas when I was younger.
good name for a band!
Nasty logs are not good for your usable log count but it makes entertaining and interesting video for us. You ALL do an excellent job. Love you ALL.
thanks Karen.
@25.20 you're saying the log is ugly, but as you turned it, I thought - what a fantastically figured board!
Black birch is also my favorite and ive never seen anyone saw one up into boards, never been done then,as far as i can find,so please, saw a black birch,it looks alot like black cherry, and most people cant tell the difference. thanks Alan , yes steel is very expensive today .
Great video Mark and Eddie and ZZ Mark. Take care.
That first log would have made pretty plywood. Would Mother Horvath be willing to visit the sawmill so we can all meet her?
that would make nice plywood , maybe on a nice summer day.
BOOM !!!! Just ordered the sign.
Best channel on TH-cam.
thank you.
Nice grain but I can't smell it unless it's like the old PEE oak here. Happy week and Blessings to ALL yall!
yes just stinks bad when it's sawed.
Good job on the memory board God bless you
thanks Jerry.

Beautiful big Boom at 12:18 into the video, with some of this black Oak could you make few plaques with it

I like your explaintions as you saw
thank you Dale! glad you like it.
Mark brother that memory board was absolutely beautiful
thank you.
Another good one Mark!!!
thanks Dave.
You got some decent looking lumber out of that stinky oak.

Another great one. You guys operate like a well oiled machine.
There's NOTHING like having a nice oily sawmill.
thanks Jerry.
so much netter when the full video is shown, love the full video,
thanks Anthony.
Ive enjoyed the shorts. Thanks
thanks Kevin , glad you like them.
Cool...I finally saw what you mean by "stress" in a log, when the backside of the blade kicked out some man glitter as it went past.
Keep up good work i love watching you guys im from hooversville pa herb Baker

Hello from Jakob in SE London in the UK....

Not going to lie, really jealous of that machine!
holiday next monday in USA and Canada,

hi there ugly log got some nice boards john
thanks John.

Forget the fire pit it's starting to look worthwhile for something that was a sight
From the way you described the smell, it's already preconditioned for the stall (lol).
Bill
yes for sure Bill.

thanks , I like 550 to 600 rpm works great on all wood.
Yay! Man Glitter Monday. Turned AARP eligible today.
Happy Birthday Scott!
Thank you
That oak was so ugly it’s pretty. Great video guys!
My guess new edger and kiln finally taking shape.
we should have the edger soon.

thanks Eugene , crook is more important to me when sawing
Bring on the boom.
That Echo chainsaw does a good job. I realize the camera was speeded up but just the same it looked like it went through that oak pretty quick.
Eddie loves that saw.
that 1st log has very pretty wood
thanks Sarah.
Hey mark does it matter which end of the log you put towards the blade ? Stump end or other end ? Did you get new machine for edging out boards yet think that what they call it
I do like the big end away from the saw.
Thanks guys
your welcome.
Lovely superb Nice sawing
Question mark why don't you put gravel down in front of where you load your logs just wandered or you just haven't gotten to it
we have millings down now but just turned into mud.
I would have never had that on my mill or saw table
I'm looking forward to the new edger. I know its coming this year.ff
me to , very soon.
Better-late-than-never Boom. 💥
for sure Mark , BOOM!
Is that sasafras behind the logs you were checking for metal in ?
that's aspen.
👍👌👏
Does the grain pattern change as you get towards the pith?
yes it does .

yes sir Brad.
👍
thanks Sharon.
Piss elm smells kinda funky when it’s being cut too
Mark do you all ever saw RR Ties, or do you even have a market for ties in your area, or is it worth it. I know I use to haul Ties out of DuBois.
we have looked into the tie market but we would need a different set up on the end of the mill.
A nice black oak for a break from cherry
yes I did need a break from all of the cherry.
You definitely mage a plate full of chicken salad today. Y'all would probably get bored sawing our SYP.
I like sawing soft wood.
❤ ugly logs...they have character 😉
yes they do.
vomit oak! I had some for firewood once!
good name.
Cool video man! Is boom only type of signs ur selling right now?
thanks , yes only the boom for now I am working on a few different ones .
Good boom
thanks Adam.
Hopefully, you will number your boom signs.
that is a good idea.
I think that second log, John would of put it on his splitter. Guess you can’t have Grade A quality lumber all the time.
no but good enough for horse stall boards.
bing bang boom
Thats why they pay you the big bucks, you can turn a ugly log into board feet
Do you ever saw any cedar?
It is nice to see the State of Maine flag in every video
Typical Characteristics of Scarlet Oak is black streaks, lots of small knots, and smells like Cow Manure!!
Teeth rubbing the log when reversing, might it be the hydraulic system creeping a bit?
no just worn out saw bits that don't cut a wide enough path for the saw then it rubs the back.
Amazing you’ve been sawing all winter, my son’s mill shut down in November, those teeth have held up pretty darn good. 👍🏻
I would love to have a "BOOM" sign but do you send to Australia? Peter Melbourne Australia
thanks Peter , I will but not sure how much the shipping would cost.
Lovely Nice sawing
thank you.
Sawing lumber that smell like horse manure, to make horse stalls with. Seems appropriate.
yes it is Patrick.
who runs the band saw?
the tree people.
