First time viewer. That mill is seriously old school, and I mean that in a good way! I'm following about 6 or 7 mill channels including yours, and this is only the second that has a circular saw blade. I'm a big gearhead, and watching the machines function is always a fascination! And it's also interesting watching a sawyer get the most out of a log! Awesome stuff!
I've watched several of your videos and can't help but notice you apologize fairly often about how you cut the logs. Apparently some people don't like your method for whatever reason, be it waste or some other reason. If people watch your channel they know what you have to work with in a sawing system. They should know from the first glance of your setup the limitations you have to work with. I wouldn't apologize for working with what you have. If people don't like it then they can watch another channel. Anyway, keep doing what you're doing as the rest of us love to see what you're up to and enjoy the cathartic nature of watching you saw logs...Happy holidays and I'll keep watching.
Good morning. I'm a retired carpenter. I see some comments about wood being wasted. I'm not so sure of that. It's just wasted in a different way, but it looks like about the same amount of waste to me. The soft wood on the exterior of the log doesnt have the value of wood further in, anyway. I prefer your techniques over the band saw as well.
My parents bought some cherry furniture in the mid-1950s when I was 6 yrs old. It was produced in North Carolina. Watching your videos give me another perspective on the production of that furniture. Thanks for what you do.
I used to work at a sawmill similar to your setup you have. I loved the job. I'm happy to see you give your employees time and you are patient for them to do there job safely.
I used to worked for 19 years in a furniture factory where we used cherry for 80% of our end product. We used 4/4 FAS and had to cut around the small defects at some point during the sawing phase. The log you just cut was driving me crazy with all the wain and face checking. Not rushing your guys is admirable . Safety is so important with an open blade of that size in the room. Kickbacks must be frightening when it happens there. The sawyer and crew seem to be a very good team.
My employer had a twin blade set-up. And the edger set-up was less than five feet from the saw blades. I would get covered in debris all the time when we would cut big timber. I loved the job but it became quantity or quality and safety kinda went out the window. And I felt like the job wasn't worth me getting hurt so I left and found other employment. Love watching sawmills like yours cause I have been around sawmills my whole life.
This grain pattern looks just like my mom & dads first dinning room table & China cabinet. Solid cherry. It was made at a cabinet shop in the erarly 50's near McConnellsburg PA. I still have both pieces. Still looks great after all these years. Love watching your videos.
❤ I'm 54 and loved rough cut lumber since I can remember Lived around farms all my life except the past 3 years I'm in Pittsburgh and you guys are doing God's work Beauty is on the inside thank you
One of th reasons I like your sawing is the skill you show e in sawing getting the most of a poor log! A warm & merry Christmas to you & the fellows behind the saw , stacking & sorting, etc, Viewing from east central Alberta, Canada
Love the cherry wood, some of those boards were very good, your variety of cuts will suit furniture makers. Thanks for the showing the milling process of the cherry log, don't see much of it out in Western Australia, I was lucky to get some boards twenty five years ago, it can be beautiful.
That was an amazing log! I like the edger and the potential it unlocks. Going to have to try and find one soon. Great sawing those wide boards had me drooling. 😂❤
Great video as always, keep them coming. That saw sawing into those logs reminds me of my childhood when i use to work in my neighbours frick sawmill. use to hear it sawing clear up the road from where i lived, i use to run up to the mill to give him a hand. loved being a kid .
Fantastic! I learned so much from watching this video. Seeing those huge logs being cut so precisely is captivating. The clarity of this video is excellent. I'm excited for your next video. Continue sharing these wonderful videos!
New subscriber here. I have never seen how raw wood was processed into finished lumber. Especially what I would call furniture grade wood like cherry. Amazing!
Yes in joyed the log sawmill sawing making lumber. I did what your buddy was doing, putting the wood away or lumber away. Great job showing and telling, yes my buddy that owned his mill had bad days to. Well thanks for showing buddy great sawmill you got there, keep up the good work be safe see ya next time see ya bye.
I had just the worst day in a long, long time.... didn't want to watch news or anything I normally do... just didn't have the stomach or heart for it. I finally thought I would help y'all saw that big cherry log and I'm glad I did. Thank you for easing my mind....
Love watching how logs get cut to boards. I used to get magazines on woodwork and other woodwork related magazines in the mail back in the 90s early 2000
Some complain about what you need to do for your job? Ignore those who just want to make trouble for others. You are doing a great job. I'm watching your videos from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada 😎🇨🇦🇺🇲🙏
That was a beautiful cherry log, Nathan from out of the woods should have cut that into live Edge slabs, and Mark you could have done a really nice table in your shop
Unlike most I like the big log's and the stop sign cutting. First you're able to remove the sapwood and the only thing left is beautiful 😍 clean grain. Don't forget let your haters be your motivators. As always good luck and God bless.
If you are planning on cutting logs this big you want a circular saw cause most band saws do not cut this large of a log, most logs are not this big and a band saw would cut them down much quicker and with cleaner cuts, the wood almost looks sanded with a band saw. You also get more wood with a band saw cause the blades are so thin.
Well the diameter of the log is so big compared to the saw blade . You have no choice but to wittle it down to make it more manageable. You really don't waste that much wood.
I don't know why, but somehow watching logs getting sawed into beautiful lumber is so calming. I wonder how much a new saw blade costs if one had to replace it?
In past video Mark has shown replacement of individual cutting teeth. Apparently individual blades are not replaced as often as individual cutting teeth.
Never mind the Arm Chair Experts.... Nice job. No matter how you ended up sawing it. My cuts on my manual 30" band may not be ideal for everyone else. But rest assured,. they ended up exactly how I wanted them. And it's ALL my money, nobody else has a cent in it.
I think that if I didn't live thousands of miles away, I would visit at least once a month and go through your scrap pile. There is something hypnotizing about watching. You might not appreciate watchers for insurance reasons, at least the ones who just show up.
Mark, it would help me as a viewer if you painted an X where the pith is, ( I know it's the middle but it shifts as you progress so I lose it..) also interested to know how wide the pith core is in relation to the full log. cheers
I'll buy this round Eddie. You've earned it!
thank you Dave !

It is a super cool setup for sure it’s nice to see it still in operation and not sitting idle somewhere
Wow, what a beast and nothing wrong with your work, nothing wasted.
At least, there is always a stove that needs food.
Thx for the video.
thanks , yes it makes great firewood too.

Totally agree!
This is the good stuff big ol 300 year old trees and that's just my uneducated guess very interesting
I agree with you 100%
Looks great to me
Not saying I agree or disagree with you, but that's what the comment section is for. To allow folks to air their views-good or bad.

I’m enjoying watching you saw this wood. I can tell that you’re a professional!😊
I can see jewelry boxes in those cracked boards! Treasure chests! Thank you for showing us all exactly how it's done.
Many thanks for another great video!
Appreciate your having the state flag of Tennessee on your mill wall.
Tom... Powell, TN
thanks Tom.
Without having a top saw, you gotta do what you gotta do!!! Great video!
The way you are cutting a log this big seems like the only logical way to begin cuts. Very educational and enjoyable video, as usual.
thanks Ray.
Glad to have found your channel! Thoroughly enjoy watching this process! 🙂

I always enjoy your videos. I really like the way you take down those large logs to useable lumber..awesome 😊
Great videos although I wish at the end you would show the stacked finished lumber so we could see how much you got out of the tree.
He usually does show it.
That was an amazing log! I like the edger and the potential it unlocks. Going to have to try and find one soon. Great sawing those wide boards had me drooling. 😂❤

I love stop-sign logs…. Sometimes they even look like a 12 point socket…. Just more fun to see!!!!!
Really a nice looking Rig! A great Mechanic too.
Worked on a mill in my hard, young days! This is food for your soul and sawdust is the topping!🇺🇸👍
You guys do amazing work on that mill! Negative comments are just uninformed wannabes who sit on there butts and complain!
Rob Blair do you drive race cars?
Man that cherry is nice . One of my favorites to turn . Cheers
Working ole Eddie today he done a good job enjoyed Mark thanks for sharing
yes for sure Bobby.
I can smell it here in Wisconsin. I love carving spoons, bowls etc from Cherry. Lucky man. Huge Cherry.
What a nice machine. Appreciate the video; enjoyed it very much.
I have a thousand board feet of cherry waiting for me to get over my stroke.

There is a natural beauty to wood, plastics, steel or concrete do not even come close.
Was a pleasant video to watch, thank you.
A lot of beautiful timber came from that log. I watch every one of your videos and this one was a rsal treat. Cheers from Australia.

Nice looking log. Even that cracked stuff could be used for something like a cabinet face frame or cabinet door frames with some judicious milling.
yes the cracked boards will be cut down on the edger.
Great sawing Mark.
Bill
thanks Bill.
How often do you have to change your blade???
Looks like a very beautiful log.
Love watching how logs get cut to boards. I used to get magazines on woodwork and other woodwork related magazines in the mail back in the 90s early 2000
You do a great job with over sized logs.. I am learning some new things I can use on my 30 inch band mill ..😊
Chewy earned his keep on that long. Nice looking cherry. Keep it up.
yes he did , a cant hook would have been tough today.
Caterpillar redwood log. Just saying mark.
Every time you start on a BIG ONE! This TH-cam is enjoyable.
I enjoyed that one. You didn't waist any. I seemed like you were more careful, trying to get more lumber. But I realize too, time is money. Good job !
thanks Larry , yes this log was worth the time to saw it.
When I'm disgusted with the news and everything else, I watch one of these videos, and I'm all better !! THANKS ! 👍👍😊

Nice mill
and to all the negative comments it’s your log do as you please
I run a swing blade and saw quite a few 38-48" logs. Really like your videos, keep up the good work.
I enjoy watching your videos and to me its very intriguing to me and I never worked in a sawmill
Looks great Marc!
thanks.
What are the considerations a mill owner thinks about in choosing a circular saw or a band saw set up? Thanks.
If you are planning on cutting logs this big you want a circular saw cause most band saws do not cut this large of a log, most logs are not this big and a band saw would cut them down much quicker and with cleaner cuts, the wood almost looks sanded with a band saw. @@hulkhogan2113 Thanks!
nice job.well done. nice mill!
Love the sound of the Bus Motor.🏁
yes sir me too.
Well the diameter of the log is so big compared to the saw blade .
You have no choice but to wittle it down to make it more manageable.
You really don't waste that much wood.
thanks Jerry , it does work out ok if you take your time and think.
It would be some beautiful hardwood that would make wonderful furniture and flooring.
is the stop sign method just necessity, or is there some other reason to do it?
BOOM!!!! Great job Mark and The Eddie. Sure am going to miss that cherry. LOL. Bet you guys are missing ZZ. Stay safe
God bless
thanks Doug , we sure do miss him.
Hi, I just wondered, if you have a board like at minute 24. you choose width over length, or the opposite?
I don't know why, but somehow watching logs getting sawed into beautiful lumber is so calming. I wonder how much a new saw blade costs if one had to replace it?
In past video Mark has shown replacement of individual cutting teeth. Apparently individual blades are not replaced as often as individual cutting teeth.
thanks , a new 56" saw is about $3500.00 today.
Never mind the Arm Chair Experts....
Nice job. No matter how you ended up sawing it.
My cuts on my manual 30" band may not be ideal for everyone else.
But rest assured,. they ended up exactly how I wanted them.

Wonderful videos! Love it.
If a wood chuck could chuck wood, how much wood would a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood?!
Wow! that monster log produced a huge stack of good looking boards!
thanks Doug.
Do whatever you have to do to whittle that log down. You got some pretty good boards off of it. 1/4 of that log is fire wood.
yes sir.
I’m from Israel and I’ve been watch you for years. God bless you
I think that if I didn't live thousands of miles away, I would visit at least once a month and go through your scrap pile.
There is something hypnotizing about watching. You might not appreciate watchers for insurance reasons, at least the ones who just show up.
thanks Glen , we would like to meet you someday.
That’s a beautiful mill !
Nice job, great lumber cutting!WA big timber out west!
Kinda envious of the size of trees yall have down there. Here in Saskatchewan not a chance and to get it not cheap
yes but you have some nice cedar we would like saw.
The only way to do it. NICE stuff too and paint them doggies RED IF you paint them at all. Happy weekend and BLESSINGS!
yes and it works out good not much waste.
@@markgalicic7788 10/4!
Good video Bus Motor Productions
thanks James.
We enjoyed your videos very much while sawing a huge timber.
thanks , more big ones to saw!
Mark that’s exactly what I’m doing
Popcorn and warm cup of Lemmon tea
That cherry 🍒 looks good
Tony
thanks Tony , enjoy the video!
Hey I love it ,don’t change
The log is absolutely great looking
I like these stop sign cuttings. Greetings and best wishes from the Palatinate Forest 🙂
thanks Daniel , glad you like them.
So what do you do with the planks? What application would they be used for, just wondering. 🤓
That cherry is some real pretty stuff. I've always like the cherry the best.
Mark, it would help me as a viewer if you painted an X where the pith is, ( I know it's the middle but it shifts as you progress so I lose it..) also interested to know how wide the pith core is in relation to the full log. cheers
good idea
All enjoy the wood cutting. But I am so interested to the arm with all hydrolic and controls to slide
Wow
glad you liked it Ronald.
Good work. I just used the same process cutting a pine on my Belsaw. (42 inch blade ha). Love it.
Have you ever used laser modules in your projects ?
I like the stop sign method! 🤓👍
Efficient use, how long had the log been setting?
thanks James , this sat for a few years but still good.
Is this a log you purchased or a custom cut for some one? How much custom work does your mill do?
this is one of our logs , we do custom sawing but not to often.
