    I'm glad Jim explained the "fat" corner of the WWF ring. There's been two occasions in which the ring was "fat" corner free: SummerSlam 1993 and Survivor Series 1993. The "fat" corner was prominent as fuck at WrestleMania III and Royal Rumble 1992.

    • @user-do2ev2hr7h
      @user-do2ev2hr7h 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The size, shape and location of the "fat corner" has changed over the years. It's been less prominent at some points, but that seems to effect the other properties of the ropes. Some of the 80's WWE rings had tremendous rope bounce whenever someone took a bump.

    I've always liked the look of classic rope ropes. Seeing the rope shape under the tape something about it just feels "right" to me, but if cables are safer by all means they should switch. They could always have covering hoses made that have the corded shape molded in.

      I'm not sure how large the safety difference is if you're using new ropes on a regular basis as WWE does though. Corny's pretty much talking about smaller promotions that are going to use the same ropes over and over. WWE sometimes changes ropes over the course of a single show. Additionally, cables have their own dangers, largely related to steel cable under tension being a lot harder on the body. Mick Foley lost his ear due to over tightened cables.

Line snapping like that can remove a body part. When I was on a ship line handling and towing were two of the more dangerous operations. That fat section on the ring should be spiced not tied. I can tell by looking at it. Spicing line sucks and is time consuming.

    I'm tempted to make a question of this and e-mail it -- if Chris and Lance ever talked to Jim about the bar ring that they had to use in Winnipeg shows that was so small there was practically no way NOT to have a rope break happen. Apparently Edge got to see it at some point as well if I recall his autobiography, right up to the point where it ALMOST sank into the lake when a winter reservation tour was going all Ice Road Truckers and stuff.

      Unless I’m confusing this with something else, Lance referred to it as the Death Tour

    If you watch the rope snap in slow motion you can see it snapped on a different corner to the 'fat' one so it was just a freak accident, nothing to do with how it was constructred. Unless it was over-tightened, which you'd imagine wouldn't be the case.

      As a physics nerd, i would expect the break to happen opposite the strength (fat)

    I’ve always wondered what that was called in the 80s when that huge amount of tape on the rope was. They even included that detail of the “fat corner” in the original action figure ring with the WWF logo (the one meant for the large smelly rubberized figures)

    I kind of wish AEW used ropes, just to see them break on Pockets.
    There is a Larry Zybyzko (sp?) match against some guy where the rope breaks on him. He takes it in such a way that he ends up staying in the ring.
    Edit: Larry Zybyzko vs Larry Winters.

    How does it make sense that faces only wrestle heels? Cornette and others have never had any kind of answer for that. Sure the big money is to build a heel vs face match, but you can’t just block face vs face and heel vs heel matches on the undercard.

      No, it wasn't a triple threat match. Basically what was going on, was that Zayn came out to try and screw McIntyre out of the match with Lashley, and after the match, Lashley hit the Hurt Lock on Zayn.

    One of these days and I told Klondike Bill this on Twitter, I would to pay him so he can make plans for me on what materials I need and the schematics to build my own ring like the ones Bill made in Jim Crockett Promotions, only Twenty by Twenty. I loved Klondike Bill's Rings other than the 18 ft square. Perhaps being a WWE fan first, I like the look of the bigger rings.
