Ken’s words were Golden to me. I’m an old man also and my progressiveness lies directly in the early 70’s classic prog! I’ll be watching this one over and over again. Great show!

Great recommendations from the team, missing Chuck of course. I was surprised no one mentioned the album Tarot: Part 1 from the band Magick Brother and Mystical Sister. Psych/Space Rock album made the top 35 on Progarchives. The "all the damn time" on this one reminded me of "Try the Wine" from a Clockwork Orange lol.

Surprised to see no mention of Big Big Train's 'The Likes Of Us' which seems to have floated many boats (including mine) this year, but it has indeed been a fruitful 2024. Thanks as always for an entertaining show.
Opeth - The Last Will and Testament, Absolute masterpiece. Neal Morse - No Hill for a Climber. Caligula's Horse - Charcoal grace Honorable mention - Monkey 3
Great show, guys! I'm glad Ken mentioned the new Beardfish - maybe my favorite of the year. Hard to argue with the new Opeth - an astounding work. The new Big Big Train is really good - I need to spend more time with that one. I also need to order that Tom Penaguin, based on Ken's comments.
My fave Prog of the year--Tigran Hamasyan-The Bird of A Thousand Voices; Sonus Umbra-Whiteout; Inner Ear Brigade-Perkunas; Jon Anderson and The Band Geeks--True; Tom Penaguin; Sleepytime Gorilla Museum-of the Last Human Being; also, new Ghost Rhythms, New Ben Monder, The Smile-Cutouts; Papangu-Lampião Rei. Fave album of the year, any Genre: Patricia Brennan Septet-Breaking Stretch, which you should all go listen to, right now.....
Anthony... it is the 2nd album of Delving. I saw them live a couple of weeks ago. And Weite comes to town in januari in a real small venue. Good stuff.
I enjoyed the video. No love for Pure Reason Revolution? Coming Into Consciousness was my fave of 2024, and I think the theme (death of a beloved pet) is very prog.
Great picks and round-up of the years greatest albums. Circuline is a great newish American prog band with strong vocal harmonies and great/epic guitar solos. Their 2024 album "Core" is worthy of a mention and shout out! If they haven't heard it, I think it would be right up Steven Reid and George Lamie's Alley.

A rare event. Usually Luis names releases I’ve never heard of. This time, of his 3 top releases I actually bought 2 of them. I have the CD, but haven’t listened to the new Blood Incantation yet, so I can’t rate it. I also bought the new Opeth, listened to it. 1st listen, so I can’t rate it either. Let me add, this yr this show convinced me to get all the Opeth studio albums. I’ve heard them at least 1 time. I’m still on the fence with the band, but I’ve just started giving the albums a second listen. When I heard Still Life, the 2nd time, I got it. My mind was able to understand what was going on. That’s enough to rate it as my favourite Opeth album, as things stand at least.
I really enjoyed that; so many albums I have not heard of. Excellent show as always and loved hearing everyone's thoughts on their top 3 best albums from 2024 1. Whom Gods Destroy: Insanium 2. Neal Morse & The Resonance: No Hill For A Climber 3. Steve Hackett: The Circus And The Nightwhale Hope you all have a great 2025 and keep up the good work
Steven, just a word about about Dvne. The band are of course fans of the books. However if they called themselves that they said no one would be able to find them on Google search😂😂. If you type the way they have spelt it into any search engine you immediately have them pop up! Kind of makes a lot of sense.

@@tomp8463 Thanks. Yea started listening to Jupiter Fungus last week. 4 listens in so far. Excellent. Easily makes this list. Oddleaf, I still need to check out.
I was very surprised by the new Sleepytime record. I did not expect it to be this good. I feel it is a bit overlooked. My Top 3 of 2024 are: 1. La Suspendida by Kilter (et al) 2. Sons of Tsunami by Simon Hanes 3. of the Last Human Being by Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and a late entry Samsara by Painkiller (also very surprising because I did not expect much).
I got to know DGM with their last album Endless. What a masterpiece that is. My prog album of the year, by a mile. Really strong performances from all the band members. And consistent great songs, not just musical muscle. Also guitar solo of the year goes to the one in the last song Of Endless Echoes. Like a Phoenix rising up. Astonishing. My red vinyl sounds very nice, balanced mix and wide soundstage. Now investigating their previous two albums.
Quite surprised that Big Big Train's, The Likes of Us didn't make any top 3s or honourable mentions (I know it was in Pete's Top 50 of the year). Great episode though, with lots a great discussion and some great pointers for new music.
A nice overview gentlemen.... I need to check out some of your mentions then... 👍 I already posted my top 10 on the heavy side on the HVS show a couple of weeks ago. That list already included some heavy prog as well (Sergeant Thunderhoof - Thy Catafalque - Blood Incantation - Whom Gods Destroy) Here's my top 10 list 'on the proggy-fusion side' : 1.Crippled Black Phoenix - The Wolf Changes Its Fur But Not Its Nature 2.This Celestial Engine - s/t 3.Opeth - The Last Will And Testament 4.Monkey3 - Welcome To The Machine 5.Bent Knee - Twenty Pills Without Water 6.Weather Systems - Ocean Without A Shore 7.Airbag - The Century Of The Self 8.Geordie Greep - The New Sound 9.The Aristocrats - Duck 10.Jane Getter Premonition - The Division World HM1 : the 2017 live recording of Elephant9 with Terje Rypdal is amazing indeed ! HM2 : Ubua - Impossible Light, not really 'classic' prog but absolutely 'innovative'. The blend of dark ambient-noise-sludge-industrial leaves you D E V A S T A T E D for sure Looking forward to the SoT 2025 shows, Cheers from The Netherlands
1. Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - Last Human Being. 2. Full Earth - Cloud Sculptors. 3. Mdou Moctar - Funeral for Justice Honorable Mentions: New music from Ritual, Delving, Elephant9, And So I Watch You from Afar, Jon Anderson and the band Geeks, Anchor & Burden, and Meatbodies
My top 3. Jon Anderson and The Band Geeks. Could be a Yes album. Steve Hackett The Circus and the Night Whale. Is it Prog? Barock Project Time Voyager. Elements of Styx, Pink Floyd, ELP. Vocally sounds like Dennis DeYoung.
Like Canz, I've been buying a lot more older releases than new ones, lol. But here are these ones: 1. Opeth 2. Aurora Clara 3. Jon Anderson and the Band Geeks I do see some stuff I missed. Whom Gods Destroy, Oddleaf and Jupiter Fungus are on the to buy list for sure.
Some random thoughts: I like the more acoustic direction from Aurora Clara. The 3rd album has become my favorite. It has surprised me, perhaps I appreciate it being less tracing paper Mahavishnu. I also want to mention that Agusa Noir Soundtrack. I think it was really good and mature. Lastly. George, I wish you got a percentage of all the fusion recommendations I have bought. Especially the Japanese stuff I bought this year.
God is an Astronaut - Embers on my top 3 which is post rock as is Distant Dream - End Of The World We Know which is ambient metal. I am not sure if Pete has them.
I got to know them with their last album Endless. What a masterpiece that is. I was blown away.
1. Opeth - The Last Will and Testament 2. Whom Gods Destroy - Insanium 3. The Aristocrats - Duck 4. Anciients - Beyond The Reach of the Sun 5. Caligula's Horse - Charcoal Grace
I checked my purchases this year and found out I only bought four 2024 albums, all of them from old fart acts. The rest were archive sets or catching up on older stuff, like some Porcupine Tree albums I was missing. The four were Judas Priest's Invisible Shield, Jon Anderson and the Band Geek's True, David Gilmour's Luck and Strange and the slight cheat of Blue Öyster Cult's Ghost Stories, being kind of archival but new nonetheless.
My top 3 prog albums of 2024: 3. ‘To Follow Polaris’ The Tangent (aka solo Andy Tillison) 2. ‘Circus and the Nightwhale’ Steve Hackett 1. ‘The Last Will and Testament’ Opeth This is an absolute masterpiece that needs to be listened to at least 3-4 times before the anti-growlers will begin to appreciate this as the classic it will become. Great show guys and thanks for the great insight and fun banter.
Ken’s words were Golden to me. I’m an old man also and my progressiveness lies directly in the early 70’s classic prog! I’ll be watching this one over and over again. Great show!

Excellent show as always and loved hearing everyone's thoughts on their top 3 best albums from 2024
1. Whom Gods Destroy: Insanium
2. Neal Morse & The Resonance: No Hill For A Climber
3. Steve Hackett: The Circus And The Nightwhale
Hope you all have a great 2025 and keep up the good work
Opeth - The Last Will and Testament, Absolute masterpiece.
Neal Morse - No Hill for a Climber.
Caligula's Horse - Charcoal grace 🦘
Ken , you are the best .
Gracias mi amigo
Steven, just a word about about Dvne. The band are of course fans of the books. However if they called themselves that they said no one would be able to find them on Google search😂😂. If you type the way they have spelt it into any search engine you immediately have them pop up! Kind of makes a lot of sense.
Indeed it does. Much appreciated!
aurora Clara , delving and Weite. Causa Sui and Jon Anderson honorable mention.
My top 3 prog albums of 2024:
1. Perilymph - Progressions Imaginaires
2. Delving - All Paths Diverge
3. Sean Ono Lennon - Asterisms
Happy Holidays everyone!
Happy Holidays!
1. The Last Will and Testament - Opeth
2. Voidkind - DVNE
3. Charcoal Grace - Caligula's Horse

On his recent Xmas tour, Rick Wakeman joked that Jon Anderson doesn't look 80....he used to.

My Top 3 of 2024 are:
1. La Suspendida by Kilter (et al)
2. Sons of Tsunami by Simon Hanes
3. of the Last Human Being by Sleepytime Gorilla Museum
and a late entry
Samsara by Painkiller (also very surprising because I did not expect much).
My top 3 in no order:
-Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere
-Frost* - Life In The Wire
-Opeth - The Last Will and Testament
The Frost* is sensational, as is Blood Incantation.
My top 3.
1)Sonus Umbra - Whiteout
2) Emerald City Council- Motion Carries
3) Myth Of Logic- Light At The End
I got to know DGM with their last album Endless. What a masterpiece that is. My prog album of the year, by a mile. Really strong performances from all the band members. And consistent great songs, not just musical muscle. Also guitar solo of the year goes to the one in the last song Of Endless Echoes. Like a Phoenix rising up. Astonishing.
My red vinyl sounds very nice, balanced mix and wide soundstage.
Now investigating their previous two albums.
Sunburst from Greece, not Norway! Gus Drax is an amazing guitarist! And indeed a great singer.
Quite surprised that Big Big Train's, The Likes of Us didn't make any top 3s or honourable mentions (I know it was in Pete's Top 50 of the year). Great episode though, with lots a great discussion and some great pointers for new music.
My top 3:
1. Ritual
2. Le Orme
3. Vesilinja
Geordie Greep - The New Sound
A nice overview gentlemen.... I need to check out some of your mentions then... 👍
I already posted my top 10 on the heavy side on the HVS show a couple of weeks ago. That list already included some heavy prog as well (Sergeant Thunderhoof - Thy Catafalque - Blood Incantation - Whom Gods Destroy)
Here's my top 10 list 'on the proggy-fusion side' :
1.Crippled Black Phoenix - The Wolf Changes Its Fur But Not Its Nature
2.This Celestial Engine - s/t
3.Opeth - The Last Will And Testament
4.Monkey3 - Welcome To The Machine
5.Bent Knee - Twenty Pills Without Water
6.Weather Systems - Ocean Without A Shore
7.Airbag - The Century Of The Self
8.Geordie Greep - The New Sound
9.The Aristocrats - Duck
10.Jane Getter Premonition - The Division World
HM1 : the 2017 live recording of Elephant9 with Terje Rypdal is amazing indeed !
HM2 : Ubua - Impossible Light, not really 'classic' prog but absolutely 'innovative'. The blend of dark ambient-noise-sludge-industrial leaves you D E V A S T A T E D for sure
Looking forward to the SoT 2025 shows,
Cheers from The Netherlands
1. Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - Last Human Being.
2. Full Earth - Cloud Sculptors.
3. Mdou Moctar - Funeral for Justice
Honorable Mentions: New music from Ritual, Delving, Elephant9, And So I Watch You from Afar, Jon Anderson and the band Geeks, Anchor & Burden, and Meatbodies
For me, best album of the year was Azure's 'Fym'.
I'll rep for the Luz De Riada, although I'm sad to hear that this is it for them.
As I hear them:
3. Jupiter Fungus - "Garden Electric"
2. Opeth - "The Last Will and Testament"
1. Full Earth - "Cloud Sculptors"
Joe 👍
Vanden Plas - The Empyrean Equation of The Long Lost Things
One of my top 3 this year. 👍🏾
I've waiting for this
Jaubi album is so good!!!
Great show guys!!! Where do I get the Oddleaf cd ??
We will have it back in stock soon.
@@lasercd7851I’ll definitely order one from you. How about Jupiter Fungus cd?
@@curtharvilla958 Label tells me its being repressed. They expect to have it back mid-January so figure we'll have it towards the end of the month.
@ Ok! Thanks! I definitely want copies of both those cds.
I just ordered the Oddleaf cd from you guys. Thanks
No Love for Iotunn - Kinship or Ihsahn - Ihsahn? Along with Opeth DVNE Geordie Greep they were my favorites
Like Canz, I've been buying a lot more older releases than new ones, lol. But here are these ones:
1. Opeth
2. Aurora Clara
3. Jon Anderson and the Band Geeks
I do see some stuff I missed. Whom Gods Destroy, Oddleaf and Jupiter Fungus are on the to buy list for sure.
01. nile-the underworld awaits us
02. jon anderson-true
03. opeth-the last will and testament
honourable mentions:
the aristocrats-duck
Hoping to see Chuck back on the show in 2025.
1)Blood Incantation
2)Caligula’s Horse
3)Opeth
Some random thoughts: I like the more acoustic direction from Aurora Clara. The 3rd album has become my favorite. It has surprised me, perhaps I appreciate it being less tracing paper Mahavishnu. I also want to mention that Agusa Noir Soundtrack. I think it was really good and mature. Lastly. George, I wish you got a percentage of all the fusion recommendations I have bought. Especially the Japanese stuff I bought this year.
Jason 👍
Make sure and watch the next 4FF for our fusion lists!
@georgelamie7001 I will. And need something to burn my tax refund on.
Frost for me!
Opeth released an entire version of their last album in Swedish. Why not do a version of their new album WITHOUT growls?
That would be righteous
Sunburst is a Greek band, and a really great album.
Ian Anderson is Scottish, Luis and Steven looks deflated that Fish is retiring and moving to live in a croft on Berneray! Merry Christmas.
WGD AGAIN TY PETE.
WGD, #1. TY STEVEN
The 7 fishes are ya?
God is an Astronaut - Embers on my top 3 which is post rock as is Distant Dream - End Of The World We Know which is ambient metal. I am not sure if Pete has them.
Pete: Try more DGM. Go backwards from the current one. Really strong melodic, prog metal. Great guitar player.
I got to know them with their last album Endless. What a masterpiece that is. I was blown away.
1. Opeth - The Last Will and Testament
2. Whom Gods Destroy - Insanium
3. The Aristocrats - Duck
4. Anciients - Beyond The Reach of the Sun
5. Caligula's Horse - Charcoal Grace
Great selections here.
And again no Frost*. How is this possible? 😲
Steven mentioned them
They made my Honourable Mentions, so they did get discussed on the show.
I believe Jon Anderson’s daughter took the cover photograph.
Like a lot the cookie monster prog, want to hear more.
What was Luis up to??
My top 3 prog albums of 2024:
3. ‘To Follow Polaris’ The Tangent (aka solo Andy Tillison)
2. ‘Circus and the Nightwhale’ Steve Hackett
1. ‘The Last Will and Testament’ Opeth
This is an absolute masterpiece that needs to be listened to at least 3-4 times before the anti-growlers will begin to appreciate this as the classic it will become.
Great show guys and thanks for the great insight and fun banter.
I have listened and I really like Opeth, the growls aren’t my thing, don’t like them
One purchase:
[deep Purple] = 1
