Thank you so much! I'm so incredibly honored for the placement and so happy that the music has resonated so well with you. I can't express how much it means coming out as a completely new artist and getting this kind of recognition and reception, this year has just had me blown away time and time again. :) Thank you again for all the love and showcasing of the album. ❤
Wow Michael!!!! This feels sooo good! Jupiter Fungus thanks you immensely for the great honor!!! We are extremely happy that our debut sits so high on your list among all these fantastic works!!! What a great way to end the year! Congrats to all the bands and Happy New and crative Year to everyone and wishing all the best to you and your awesome channel!!! ❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
Wonderful list and one that I was looking forward to. Been trying to catch up on some of the albums I missed out on this year and this has given me very enjoyable homework!
Ha ha, I knew my list would not pair up too great with yours after like 5 of my favs were in your hon mentions. I have Iotunn's album as my best metal album this year. I did love Almo's effort though, def a top 5 for me as well. Thanks for all your effort.
A truly awesome list! I enjoyed watching this very much. I was struck by how your list seems to prefer new(er) artists and debut records, which I think is super cool that you are highlighting many great young bands! I think my lists tend to skew more towards the established favorites in the genre because maybe I’m a bit more forgiving of the flaws of the artists that I have grown to love…but I try to balance it by spotlighting new bands that deserve greater attention as well. But I think it is great that we have pretty different lists that both highlight how diverse and cool this genre of Prog (and Metal) really is! ❤
@@nathanwaitman5461 thanks man! I love your list and your enthusiasm in your love of the more established bands...but still giving much love to bands like Meer and Dirt Poor Robins 😁
Great list! Happy to see Arcana and Through the Mountains of Melancholia in the top 10, they are amazing albums and I can't stop listening to them lately. For me, my favorite album of the year is Voidkind by Dvne, it really grew on me the more I listened to it through the year.
I really like Almo, it's definitely one of the best prog metal albums of the year. I do find the more I listen to it the more I notice the programmed drums, though - hoping with the success of this album, he's able to get a drummer on the next one. That's really the only mark against it for me - otherwise it's a really fantastic record.
Super cool, unique list -- perfect palate cleanser after being exposed to the soul-crushing sameness of all the herd groupthink aggregate lists. I had to dig into the comments to figure out our #4, Múr - Múr, since there was no clue as to the spelling otherwise. Well worth the investigation, as are all your top picks. I have one pick that deserves some attention: 1. Transit Method - Othervoid From the cover art you’d think the fifth album from Austin’s Transit Method was a progressive death metal album. The fact that they actually have roots in both grunge and prog (think Skin Yard, Love Battery, The Fluid and mid-period Die Kreuzen mixed with the proggy alt rock of locals …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead) appeals to me a lot because while I like 70s prog, I just can’t get past the slick production of most modern prog and prog metal. But bands that rough it up with a bit of greasy garage punk, and grunge, like The Fierce & the Dead, Crown Lands and Mondo Drag, I’m all in. While the production has gotten incrementally cleaner and more accomplished on The Madness (2020) and this one, the prog metal retains just enough grungy flavor to keep them from sounding like hundreds of other stoner metal/heavy psych bands lumbering about the rock landscape. 2. WIZRD - Elements 3. Anciients - Beyond the Reach of the Sun 4. Iotunn - Kinship 5. Needlepoint - Remnants of Light 6. Bobbie Dazzle - Fandabidozi 7. Aseitas - Eden Trough 8. Civerous - Maze Envy 9. Elephant9 - Mythical River 10. Cave Sermon - Divine Laughter
Thanks for that list. I will need to add a few more names to my List of Shame. Kairos, Aquilus, Múr and Oddleaf are definitely on my best of 2024 list. Almo is way too Haken-like for my liking.
