What an enjoyable episode. Music of various genres and a great set of panelists as well. Thanks to Brendon, Scot, Grant and of course, you, too, Pete, for taking time to unearth this albums and bring them to the viewers attention. Most of my choices mentioned but the Buckingham Nicks one time LP prior to their joining Fleetwood Mac is one not included in the episode and always comes to mind when these discussions occur. Several new additions to the SoT shopping list because of these discussions. Thanks again, guys.
GPS, a 2006 band featuring, John Payne (vocals, bass), Guthrie Govan (guitar), Jay Schellen (drums), Ryo Okumoto (keyboards). Excellent AOR/Prog along the lines of 90's Asia
Great show guys! That's SO wild! I just listened to the David & David album in full , like, 2 days ago for the first time in forever! Sounded just like I remember..full of promise.😎
A great topic! Here’s some one album wonders I love Neurotic Outsiders- Neurotic Outsiders Above- Mad Season Family Style- Vaughan Brothers Shrinebuilder- Shrinebuilder LAMF- Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers
Because discovering new bands is my jam, this is probably one of my fav topics for a show, this is how I got hooked to SoT back then (Pete mad 4 episodes of one and done if I remember right). Grant, Lollipop did another album in 2007 (saw it on Spotify) but it doesn't really matter, it's great to be able to find out about them. I know it's not the kind of show that gets you the most views, but it's so great to hear about those unknown (or very little known) bands. Love it!
A great show, I love this quartet! Many one album wonders have been mentioned in the show and in the commentaries but to add another fantastic record from the prog world: the self-titled debut by "Refugee" (1973), a power trio with two members from The Nice and Patrick Moraz who then left to join Yes for "Relayer".
In 2006 when the Darkness stopped Justin Hawkins set up British Whale and then as Grant mentions Hot Leg. The other members of the Darkness made their own group called "The Stone Gods". Bassist Richie Edwards became the Lead Singer and the band delivered a stunning album called "Silver Spoons and Broken Bones" on the play it again Sam label. Well worth a listen.
Vendetta would get my vote. They were a Detroit Power trio that released 1 self titled album on Epic/CBS. Band members: Niki Buzz (Guitar Vocals), Klyph Black (Bass), and Terry Fox (Drums). The music is Hard Rock/Metal with grooves. Produced by Max Norman.
The self-titled Humanimal album from 2002. Jeff Scott Soto on vocals, Marcel Jacob on bass, Pontus Norgren on guitar and Thomas Broman on drums. It is claimed there is not one single power chord on this. And yet it's heavy stuff. The album is a rollercoaster ride without a ballad. The sound is very organic and great!
Great show guys. I love seeing you all together. Scot-Love the Gentle Giant hat. A lot of great picks. A couple of my favorites are Flame (featuring Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Faatar from The Beach Boys) and Fuse (featuring members of Cheap Trick). Happy New Year to all of you.
I love that GTR album. Jonathan Mover on drums after a really brief stint in Marillion. Invention Of Knowledge. Just fantastic. Jon and Roine. I was so glad to get the reissue on vinyl.( I have the original release on CD. ) I recently found a vinyl of HSAS. Very good record. Good find in the used bin.
Great show. Scot, when you mentioned your band Disorderly Conduct I knew I had a compilation with them on it. Sure enough, comp album Flipside Records Vol II with How Old Are You? Had no idea man,one of the best songs on the album!
On Pete’s recommendation on SOT I listened to Bodkin’s self-titled album from the early 70s. Scottish Psych heavy rock. It’s a rare pressing, but it is on TH-cam.
When Pete named the Highway Robbery members the name Don Francisco instantly rang a bell as a Christian singer my mom had cassettes of when i was a kid. Trying to determine if he's the same is not easy (his wiki page doesn't mention the band, or Allmusic, but he was described as having played secular music first). They both have mustaches (if he is on the left on the HR cover). There is a 3 day difference in given birthdates.
what a great episode..I have the GTR and HSAS, plus the blue jays..that's about it. looking up all these others. great episode!! oh, & thunderclap newman. i have tidal and the andersen Stolt and shadow king are available..looking up the others...:) they even had lollipop factory...i've lived in columbus my whole life and never heard of em
I always recommend AFT's 'Automatic Fine Tuning' in these circumstances - basically it's like Wishbone Ash decided to concentrate on the lengthy guitar tracks but replaced every member and were inadvisedly persuaded that one track had to have vocals. Should'a been huge (and it's on the (Famous) Charisma label) but in 1976 it was maybe 2 years too late to break through.
Rosie Vela: Zazu (1986). Model turned singer who actually had a good voice! Single was Magic Smile featuring Donald Fagen on keyboards and Walter Becker on guitar (video's available on YT--check it out!). Really good song that should've been a bigger hit! (Dunno if Steely Dan backed her up on the whole album or just that song). She DID record a second album, but A&M (her label) never released it for some reason. (Also, on a side note, she was dating Jeff Lynne at the time, but don't believe he had anything to do with her musical output).
Pretty sure the only reason Becker & Fagen turned up was Gary Katz produced it. Fagen played on all but two tracks, and Becker was only on 3. Other Dan alumni including Rick Derringer also did some tracks, but Jeff Lynne isn't mentioned anywhere on it. . But I agree it's an excellent album and she is quite easy on the eyes!!
Love “ Driving to Amsterdam” from Space Shanty. Did Rocket From the Tombs ever release a proper album in their time? The Rocket Redux reunion album from the early 2000’s is tremendous. Especially for anyone who loves guitars
My three no specific order. 1. Bill Nelsons Red Noise--Sound On Sound.--------my first gig age 15. 2. Army Of Anyone---what a banger of an album. 3. Mongol Horde--amazing album considering the only instrument other than drums is baritone guitar.
Watching this on my tv and looking up the music on my phone. Really great recommendations and Brendon really knocked it out of the park with those picks.
The perfect one-hit wonder Olive - ST 1976 Japan Great prog album with operatic vocals and amazing guitar work. Has been my holy grail for many years, extremely hard to find on vinyl but you can listen to this on youtube.
Great episode. There are two that immediately spring to mind for me. One is behind Scot and it was only mentioned in passing: Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols. The only album of original material, although there have been about a million compilations. The other is from 2000 and was released on Sub Pop. Uppers And Downers by The Yo-Yo's. Bassist/singer Danny McCormack's band after The Wildhearts split for the first time. Punk rock 'n' roll - they were once described as The Clash jamming with Showaddywaddy (Pete, have you checked them out after they were mentioned on a UK Connection show a while back?), all three frontmen (Danny, Tom and Neil) sang and contributed 3 part harmonies, more yobbish than someone like CSN, though. They split as Danny was in the throes of substance addiction and they've reformed for the odd live show, but it remains their only album.
Incredible Hog - Volume One Ursa Major - Ursa Major Beck, Bogert & Appice - Beck, Bogert & Appice Stonewall - Stonewall Highway Robbery - For Love or Money Unida - Coping with the Urban Coyote Blackwater Park - Dirt Box Armageddon - Armageddon
Haven't watched yet, so not sure if these were mentioned. Refugee (formerly The Nice, but with Pat Moraz on keys replacing Keith); Babylon from St. Petersburg, FL (they also had a live album, I believe, but that doesn't count!).
I met AWBH at their album signing at Tower records, Piccadilly in London (That's a one album wonder). I asked SH about why there wasn't a 2nd GTR. He said they tried, but it didn't quite happen. Just checked out Lollipop Factory "Soon" album and love it. Thanks, Grant. There was a 2nd LF album called Away in a trailer. Also i'd suggest Imperial Drag album, another Jellyfish off- shoot.
Did NOTdisappoint!!! Excellent show and chemistry between the contributors. Next year do not make it so close to Christmas so I have better cashflow. I am going to have to take out a loan to buy all the recommended albums!
Sunforest was a short-lived British trio formed in the late 1960s, consisting of Terry Tucker, Erika Eigen, and Freya Hogue. I would describe their sound as a fusion of baroque pop in the Left Banke vein and Sandy Denny-adjacent British folk, with lush harmonies, harpsichord aplenty, and other classical influences and elements. Their sole album, Sound of Sunforest (1969), is a whimsical Technicolor delight and well worth discovering, especially if you enjoy, say, Donovan or the Incredible String Band.
Lou Gramm told me in a one on one conversation in Biloxi, MS that once Atlantic saw Unusual Heat crash and burn commercially that they pulled any and all promotion from Shadow King to ensure that Lou would return to Foreigner since the band had such a proven track record of success with Lou in the band.
BNQT - Indie band featuring members of Travis, Band of Horses, Midlake, Franz Ferdinand and Grandaddy. Good fun album. Hindu Love Gods - Basically Warren Zevon replacing Michael Stipe in REM. Surprisingly heavy. And how about Rockpile for a third group. And yes, people with very different tastes to our presenters also enjoy lots of these shows
Great episode! I'll be checking out a bunch of these albums 🤘🏻 I'm gonna throw out: Decksanddrumsandrockandroll by Propellerheads. The Postal Service - Give Up Temple of the Dog
Remember there was that movie to a One hit wonder (That Thing You Do_) Which had Liv Tyler Steven Tylers daughter. And back in the day if one had album of a wonder they would as band or artist not as usual to follow up with anything else. I think thats how it goes. Will enjoy seeing this episode,
Arzachel - s/t in 1969, the band Uriel released their only studio record before disbanding. Steve Hillage, Dave Stewart, Mont Campbell, Clive Brooks; take away Hillage and you’ve got Egg
Also some favs of mine not mentioned here: VENDETTA - S/T (Nikki Buzz from M-80 and Max Norman produced), RIVERDOGS - S/T (Vivian Campbell) and Spokane, WA. boys AVIARY (Great Pomp rock produced by Yes's guy Eddie Offord).
Hi Guys. Great show. Pete, I agree with you on Highway Robbery. It is an excellent album IMO. My only pick off the top of my head is Doctor Butcher. Sounds like old school Savatage to me Not surprisingly though. HSAS was the obvious choice though.
Great show gentlemen! Here's a few that weren't mentioned: Marcus - Marcus (1976) Axis - It's A Circus World (1978) Ursa Major - Ursa Major (1972) Susan Lynch - Big Reward (1982) Intergalactic Touring Band - really a one-off concept album (1977) Emerson Lake & Powell - Emerson Lake & Powell (1986) Cheers From Central California!

Great to see Grant and Scot on here Peter 👏. Look forward to it 😊
...and Brendon.
Seriously ? Are you correcting me ?
His name is Pete not Peter
This was an excellent episode. These four SoT mainstays mesh very well.

@GrantsRockWarehaus only saw it on Spotify...
WHAT A GREAT EPISODE! MANY MORE ALBUMS TO EXPLORE, MORE PURPOSE TO LIVE 😄
THANK YOU VERY MUCH GUYS, YOU ARE GREAT!
A great show, I love this quartet!

What a great time listening to the four of you glow about music! You could easily do another episode or two on this same topic.
It was great to hear a Rick Springfield reference. I think he’s underrated as a songwriter and performer.
Sahara Snow is another great one and done band featuring Rick Springfield!
I'm telling you Living in OZ is great a great album.
@ It’s probably my favorite of his. It’s heavier than people would expect, too.
@@howardrice8533 the heaviest RS album has to be SDAA, tho
In 2006 when the Darkness stopped Justin Hawkins set up British Whale and then as Grant mentions Hot Leg. The other members of the Darkness made their own group called "The Stone Gods". King Of Kings S/T 1991
Produced by Roy Thomas Baker. One and done.

I read Dick Wagner's book...Billy Joel was-to-be the group's keyboardist. Can you believe it? 😊
Intergalactic Touring Band....I forgot about that one.
Wow, someone else who’s heard of Marcus!
Highway Robbery had a 2nd release in 2010 called ‘There’s Always Light at the End of the Tunnel’.
It’s actually pretty good. 🤘
Really surprised not to see Speedway Blvd, as it was the first one that came to mind for me.
