It is an awesome motherboard and that flash drive was a nice touch. weird how utube threw this review my way when i just built the pc...not searched this motherboard in years. Plus though cos i found a nice new channel :)
Just bought this board in Sweden for 250$, was on sale and before 370$. I love the dragon that msi has on their product, I’m a big dragon fan. So it’s a big plus for me when it come to the style. And the performance is incredible also, good OC options.
I installed same board just a month ago and been a good board that fits my needs and the audio is great too which is added bonus and a upgrade for me. I use my system for gaming ultra modded Skyrim with over 500 mods and video editing. Never had heating issues but also use a MSI K360 AIO.
Just going to point out that this is an "MPG" board, not an "MAG" board. Just a small mistake in the video title, the stickers pulled out of the box also said MPG which got me to realize it :p Great review though! I was already looking at this as my board of choice for a new build, and I'm very happy to see such an in-depth unboxing and review
Awesome. Blind sniped this off of amazon at a 15% discount. Needed an upgrade. Needed a good reference video for the motherboard. Thanks for providing. I did have a giggle at the initial brush inspection. I also thought it was a usb.
The top NVME slot should be used first because it bypasses the chipset and goes to the CPU. Always look at the manufacturer's website to see how the chipset channels are configured.
Excellent video, thorough and detailed which is refreshing to see! Just wanted to mention though, that top USB port, the one that is labeled 'flash BIOS' is intended for flashing the BIOS and though it likely can be used as a regular USB port, it is worth noting just so less advanced users will know. Also, could just be the way you worded it but the WIFI antennas aren't necessary for Bluetooth to function as Bluetooth doesn't utilize the antennas to function and ya kinda made it sound like they HAVE to be plugged in for the Bluetooth functionality on this boards to work but that's not the case. Also, you say there's an old fashioned PS2 port for those interested in installing Windows 7... Just to clarify, you can install Windows 7, Win 8, Win 8.1, Win 10 Win 11 and the PS2 port will still function ;) Aside from that though excellent job!! And hopefully after some use you are not regretting the purchase and hopefully the lack of fan on the X570 chipset is proving to be a good idea and not the opposite.. ;)
Two things were missing to make the video perfect. The first is: you didn't mention or notice that your cpu voltage is too high by default!!! 1.426v while in idle mode in bios! The temperature is 50c while doing nothing! Urgently limit the voltage to a value that gives you stability (use the amd rysen master program to test the limits--for example, I assume that it can easily work stably at 1.15v-1.2v). The second is the most important: you didn't test the general temperatures of the motherboard when you load all the ports like cpu and gpu in load! Well, that was the main thing to show you, temperatures and stability!
One reason the temp may be too high is I'm using a semi-old stock cooler, which already is an issue but was fine for purposes of doing the video. One 2nd possibility is the option for hitting turbo speeds was on, which immediately brings temps up, even when in the BIOS (again stock cooler hits here too). The other details you mention are also a good factor, but in this video I just wanted to review the Ins & Outs of the motherboard. Thanks for watching and suggesting things!
Great review one reason I went and purchased the motherboard after your review, one question? would you know if it will run with 32GB 4000Mhz ram. Thank you for any information you can give me.
Hello, best regards. I have the x570 edge wifi model but not in "s" version and I have no complaints because it works well but when I carefully check the Bios it tells me that the pcie is in Gen 3 mode. And I recently upgraded my graphics card from rx580 to rx 5700xt, thinking that it would work in pcie 4.0 and when checking with Gpuz it tells me "the board indicates that it supports pcie x16 4.0, currently the speed is pcie x16 3.0". I add that the processor is ryzen 2600 and the disk is ssd samsung 860. My doubt is if the other components (processor and disk) should also be able to take advantage of pcie 4.0, so that the graphics card can also do it. Or is it something else. I hope you can understand what I write because I use a translator. Thanks and like.
I believe the issue here may be the CPU. The board definitely supports 4th Gen PCI-E, but the CPU also has to support it as well. You may need a 3rd or 4th generation Ryzen CPU, which would offer PCI-E 4th gen channels for your board.
@@Silent157 Hi, thanks for taking time to answer me. Indeed, what happened was that I needed to upgrade the cpu (in my case to a ryzen 5700x) and with this it works on pci ex 4.o without problems. Greetings
It really depends what you have in mind for both your motherboard and CPU. If you are planning to have multiple NVMe drives that benefit from PCI-E 4th Gen speeds, or planning to overclock your CPU, then I would suggest the x570s. The B550 does have limits to supporting more than 1 NVMe at 4th gen speeds and the x570 chipset may be more efficient with overlocking (especially with additional heatsinks). However, for general use without overclocking, 1 CPU, 1 Video Card, 1 NVMe, etc, the B550 board definitely will be more than enough for use. The x570/x570s definitely a better chipset, but also more expensive.
@@Silent157 I understand but the specific board is the B550 Unify with 16 power phases and 4 spaces for m.2, of which 3 are 4th generation and only 1 is the third generation. The detail is that the X570s Edge Max is $10 more expensive than the B550 Unified
Hey science, great video i have a couple questions about this motherboard, i recently purchased this motherboard and installed all of my hardware to it and even installed the wifi adapters but I’m still getting no internet
im not sure which one to buy, x570s edge max wifi or x570 tomahawk wifi. What im lookin for is overall good mobo with nice vrm and low temps in gaming. In my country atm is harder to find am4 motherboard than rtx 3080 which i got recently. Would you be able to tell me which one to get for my build x570s edge max or tomahawk? I know x570 gaming edge was blasted for being bad and not many reviews are done for x570s edge max but its scored 84 on versus for bein better than tomahawk. just not sure if thats case. Thanks in advance if you reply
I have heard about some issues regarding the x570 edge (not the x570s) though believe a number of those issues have been addressed in recent BIOS updates. I have done a review previously on a Tomahawk board and it definitely appeared to be a very solid board. I currently have 3 x570 edges working with family member's computers and have been pretty solid themselves. So, whichever board you get, definitely update the BIOS in the first few days,, so if there is any issue you always have the option of returning them. Push either board to the limit within the first few weeks for the same reason. Both boards are pretty good and you have to see what options each one has that will suit your needs.
@@Silent157 I've ordered b550-e in the end, it's crazy situation in my country at the market rn. Its harder to find am4 mobo than 3080. Thank you for reply, i will try to update bios before installin win10 and will try to push motherboard for that reason you mentioned.
I just the board in today, I didn't get a manual with it, I had to go on my phone download it and print it. I just disappointed that the MSI, Dragon or Edge wording does not light up. But I am happy that it booted, got this board as a replacement to the Gigabyte Aorus B450 Wifi Pro, that I stupidly enabled secure boot in bios, and never booted again. Transfered my 32gb ram, Ryzen 5 2600, and GT 630 over to this board, I was worried that those components were bad also.
Supports Ryzen 9 5950X. Supports Windows 11 and TMP. DDR4 3200 for sure. Not sure about DDR4 4000 with that particular processor? It would be good to know at this point as it appears to be a final upgrade to the Memory as the X570 series motherboards become history and we all squeeze the last bit of performance out of this generation.
I didn't expect all of THIS with the review! Amazing job going into such detail. There are very few reviews online of this pretty incredible motherboard. Going to pair this with a 5950x. Going to need more than 3 m.2's, so I'm hoping this board will support an expansion card.
Perfect time for those sirens...😅 Seriously though, good job. I'm receiving one of these tomorrow to complete a build and wanted to see the BIOS hands on. How were the chipset temps?
This boars is pretty and am using one on a server build with 128GB of RAM and a 16-core Ryzen CPU. Also use it sometimes as a rendering workstation and temps appear pretty good with no complaints. The POST time could use a little little improving though.
With X570, the chipset fan only needs to run if you're pushing a lot of data through the chipset, and that usually means 1 or 2 NVMe drives running for a period of time. There's also an X4 gen4 slot that can exist via the chipset. So, how much that fan runs or how fast it's moving is based on your system.
For any degree of overclocking, an after-market cooler is definitely recommended over the stock cooler, so definitely would recommend one myself too. You're welcome and thanks for watching!
Huge fan sir. Can i get 5950x work without update bios on this MOB ?? And can i use all m.2 slots with all 6 sataports or some sata gonna be disabled ???? Please reply
Unlikely that you will need any update on the BIOS to support this CPU, though still a good idea to update it at some point. You may have to look at the MB manual to see which SATA ports may be disabled when using multiple or all m.2 slots.
Look at the manufacturer's website for this info... No, you can not use all 6 SATA ports and all NVME at the same time. The choose can only handle so much. The number of periphery available is for customer flexibility, not so they all can be used.
Does this board have a fan? I was fiddling on the EUFI settings, and i dont know what i did but theres a sound of a fan blowing somewhere in my PC. it didnt use to have it. while just regularly browsing.
This particular board does not have a fan. Usually the x570 chipset based boards have a little fan on the chipset area, but the x570s use passive cooling, hence the larger heatsinks on them instead.
I just recently got this board and I like it so far but my only issue is, is that I have the exact same ram sticks you do at 16gb per stick but the board won't allow me to run dual channel. I'm only able to run one stick at a time because having two doesn't boot. Any advice on how to fix this or do I need to replace the motherboard?
Does swapping the memory chips still have a successful boot? Try using two different DIMM slots (even if not ideal for dual channel) just to see if it boots. There may be an issue with one of the chips, or one of the slots for dual channel has an issue. Also sometimes the connectors on the memory chips themsevles can get dirty can cause issues, so a quick cleaning can help also.

Hi, can you help me, please? I bought motherboard gigabite X570S Aorus Elite AX and it didn't wanted to except Windows 11. Is that normal or something is broken? Thank you in advance. Have a good day.
Thank you so much for this in depth overview. MSI's bios layout looks much better than the Asus board I currently have. I'm a Linux user so im hoping it will play nice as long as secure boot is off. I did read this audio chipset has problems with front panel headphones which is sad but im used to it from my Asus laptop with an ALC 295 chipset (just use a usb-c dac). I use 3 nvme gen 3 drives so this is great it frees up the 16x/4x electrical PCI-E slot so I can put a thunderbolt card in and it has 2.5gig lan built in so I can re purpose my 2.5gig card. I wanted this board just looking at the ads and your overview sealed the deal. My 5900x and 3080lhr eagerly await its new home and I can retire the cheap pos Asus Tuf board I currently have! Thank you again! I love that you went over everything almost line by line. :)
You're absolutely welcome and thanks again for watching and for the comments. Glad the details really helped seal the deal with the motherboard and all the options it can offer. Seems like you have it all well planned out for your build. Let me know how it turns out!
@@Silent157 Everything went great. Board solved all of my feature issues as well as the technical problems I was having with the Tuf board (white vga light/black screen on cold boot). The included brush is a really nice touch and was used heavily. No real complaints just took a few minutes adjust to the MSI bios (fan setup, boot disk selection, turning secure boot off and finding where they are hiding virtualization support). I also upgraded the power supply to an EVGA 850 gold. Thank you again for your overview. It made this transition smooth and easy!
The cooler you mentioned has dual 120mm fans and definitely should be able to handle the Ryzen 5700g. Be sure to have good ventilation within your case, particularly exhaust fans, or else all that hear will have no-where to go!
This mobo is basically and modified version of the x570 chipset board (passive cooling over a chipset fan) and was released after the 5000 series Ryzen CPUs were released. This mobo definitely will work well with both CPUs and doesn't require a BIOS update. Just be sure you have a good aftermarket cooler, as both CPUs do not come with a stock cooler.
Which CPU are you using? You should actually be fine with the setup you mentioned, and both NVMe drives should run at the ideal PCI-E gen 4 speeds. Very similar setup to my main system, which also has a dedicated sound card installed.
Is it 3 or 4 m.2 drives ? Thanks I watched the video. You said 3. But I thought it said 4 on the box, hence my question. Haha. I will answer my own question. In the video you go through the bios. It clearly shows 3. Lol.
That's correct, the dragon near the I/O backplate is does not light up. I have seen this feature on MSI motherboards on motherboards dating back to 2018 but haven't many since.
i kinda wished i waited for x570s but i couldn't wait on my dedicated streaming rig so yea i kinda like tha Chipsets without tha fans on it but hey i'll be fine i'll probably get one for spare
I can understand that thought there, but unless you're having any overheating or loud fan issues, your board is definitely more than enough. I did like the idea of added USB ports though, that's my little regret. Spare it always a good idea!

Thanks for the wonderful comments and glad the video was helpful to you! I worked & reviewed a few MSI b550 boards and they share a very similar BIOS. I think you'll be pleased how this board works and runs.
just installed m2 drive and how do you get into bios goes diretly to windows thank you tryed diffenet function keys nothing remove the drive and im able get into bios
Hi, can you help me, please? I bought motherboard gigabite X570S Aorus Elite AX and it didn't wanted to except Windows 11. Is that normal or something is broken? Thank you in advance. Have a good day.
Make sure the bios is up to date. Newer Bios enable TPM 2.0 by default
Is it normal the heatsink on the lower right side getting very hot? Like after 10min?
Will Noctua NH-U12A cooler will be enough to cool a Ryzen 7 5700g OC to 4.2 g on this MoBo.?
The cooler you mentioned has dual 120mm fans and definitely should be able to handle the Ryzen 5700g. Be sure to have good ventilation within your case, particularly exhaust fans, or else all that hear will have no-where to go!
Is this mobo good enough for Ryzen 9 5900X? Or even 5950X?
This mobo is basically and modified version of the x570 chipset board (passive cooling over a chipset fan) and was released after the 5000 series Ryzen CPUs were released. This mobo definitely will work well with both CPUs and doesn't require a BIOS update.
Just be sure you have a good aftermarket cooler, as both CPUs do not come with a stock cooler.
Can we upgrade to windows 11 on this motherboard?
Yes, this motherboard can take Windows 11, and has updated TPM within the BIOS.
@@Silent157 thanks
will this run at full speed one GPU x16 speed 2 m.2 nvme x4 speed and 1 x1 sound card all at full speed
Which CPU are you using? You should actually be fine with the setup you mentioned, and both NVMe drives should run at the ideal PCI-E gen 4 speeds. Very similar setup to my main system, which also has a dedicated sound card installed.
@@Silent157 ryzen 7 5800x yea deciding between this the unify or carbon gaming models of msi for a motherboard
The title should be "The MSI MPG X570s EDGE MAX WIFI Motherboard | Unboxing, Installation & Review" :D
I did forget to add one word there actually =)
So what are the 2 usb drives for?
As well, too, also, additionally, likewise...
That music has that HWUB vibe lol
Definitely am unboxing in this one too!
Does it support windows 11 pro x64 ?
Definitely does, and drivers are available for it on MSI's site.
Is it 3 or 4 m.2 drives ? Thanks
I watched the video. You said 3. But I thought it said 4 on the box, hence my question.
Haha. I will answer my own question. In the video you go through the bios. It clearly shows 3. Lol.
Yes, as you probably noticed, this board does have 3 m.2 slots, which are all covered by heatsinks. I'm glad you found out!
The dragon doesnt light up?...
