Agree 100%, I really wish they used more reversed flash, I was astonished when I release that the main villain of flash had less screen time in movies, series etc. It is like if you used joker just as a side character (although I think with joker is the opposite, they use him a lot). Love your videos, they are so concise :D, never change man.
I love your comparison to One Punch Man. It’s a story about a guy struggling with directionless after acquiring too much power, and while there are exciting fights from side characters, his hurdles are never about winning a battle. Basically, the writer knew that One Punch Man couldn’t seriously be threatened in a fight, so he expertly explored the humor of the situation in different ways
I've always felt that Flash should be more feared by villains and respected amongst the heroes as 1 of Earths most powerful like Superman Martian Lanterns and Doc Fate. Dude can "run back in time". How does an ice gun ever tag him
I think that, in essence, superheroes should do things that we might want to do if we had their superpowers. Ground rules, like you said, are important. I like to know where the hero is at, mentally and physically. That makes it especially fun when a hero learns they can do something accidently or through experimentation; like when Dash learns he can run on water. It adds a level of immersion and vicariousness to the story.
Your final Argument is a good explanation why Grodd is actually a good counter to Flash. Superbrain might clock in at a similiar speed as a Speedster, even if the body does not. But reading the mind of the Speedster lets you know where he is going to be.
Or, better yet, do the Ozymandias thing of "Stop it? My plan resolved thirty minutes ago. Why would I monologue when there was still a possibility you might stop it?" Of course, that breaks if you permit time travel, but that's more of an inherent problem with acausal narratives in general than it is with super-speed in particular.
I should point out that Omni-Man also has super-speed and accelerated perception. Dude can fly hundreds of times faster than light. Still, I totally agree with this video. Speedsters are broken and should remain consistent when writing their capabilities 👍
My suspicion is most normal people just don't get how big of a difference there is between 200mph, hypersonic, and speed of light. Most people probably intuitively think hypersonic is like 3x faster than 200mph and lightspeed is 10x faster than hypersonic. So The flash can go speed of light on a good day but if he gets a cold or something he can still get hit by a bullet.
That statement is a bit demeaning because both Barry Allen and Wally West versions of flash are genius level heroes. Barry especially, because his reputation for his mind in the comics is on Par with Batman, Reed Richards, Mister Terrific, Tony Stark, and Dr. Doom.
the one comic where the villains sit around the poker table, betting their loot on the game and talking about where they like to do their crimes, then theres one of them talking about Flashes turf and asking why nobody goes there, and the other villains just tell these stories about the joker and other guys i dont remember going there, being beaten in no time, and one of them being traumatized because he could not escape to other citizes, planets, dimensions, and even the end of the universe, because the flash is always either there or is almost there, then it ends with flash finding those playing villains after he finds the guy that didnt know not to mess with the flash and the city he protects
I think the flashpoint paradox portrayes Barry's speed Perfectly not only do we see int he fight against the rogues not only Is he not that fast but we are shown that to get faster He has to build up speed ( when He is fighting mirror we master we see him getting faster by going around him) so He can't just go top speed on a dime. This was pretty cool to write Barry's spees to that wjile you can see why his ennemies would have a tought time with him you can also see why they can stand a chance.
An interesting example of psychological effect of superspeed is shown in Vampire the Masquerade roleplaying table top game Over usage of vampires' powers in this game can lead to some psychological conditions named "discipline derangements". One of these powers is Celerity which is basically superspeed. Vampires that over use super speed get used to world being slow, and when they stop using this power world seems too fast to them. So fast that they ask people that they talk with to speak slowly.
Colds gun is more than just a freeze ray. It brings things to absolute zero. meanin it stops all movement down to a subatomic level. Speedsters obiously move their molecules really fast so when you're bringing their molecules to a grinding halt it makes things more difficult for Flash. Grodd messes with Flash's mind making it hard for him to focus on running and he's sometimes telekinetic too. His villains make more sense when you really think about it.
@f-entertainmentbts6850 Never thought about that, thank you for sharing your knowledge!🔥 You are probably right but something still feels weird with many of flash’s villains!
@@MovieF8 No problem. Most of his villains just try to outsmart him and it only ever works for a minute or two so pre planning is key for the Rogues which is why the highlight the intelligence of his villains and trickery of some like mirror master using his mirror gone to make reflection illusions of himself or trap flash in the mirror dimension. But your point is still valid, they sometimes have him act like a sidekick to the main league which is really annoying.
@@f-entertainmentbts6850This is just stupid LOL. The freeze gun should never hit Barry because of how fast he thinks and moves. Unless captain cold comes from behind him. And Barry is WAY faster than Grodd can think
Apparently, comic book Flash is always in Flash-Time. When an average man manages to hit Flash, it's because Flash got distracted with his perception of time. Ridiculous.
Really good video. A lot of the power aspect can be summed up with Brandon Sanderson’s rules: limitations > capabilities. The more organic( key word) challenges you can throw the better. Something I find is very understated with Barry or Wally is that they need to eat a lot of food. That makes sense given their powers burn calories like nuts. Imagine a situation where they spent most of their money on food and can’t afford anything more or they didn’t eat enough calories and have to solve problems without their speed. Or if they want to lean into the stupid slow motion stuff with super speed; at least throw in some limitations. Edgerunners did this well with a nosebleed for David when overusing it. Or heck JLU flash he had to build up speed to tap into the speed force by running a bit. And nearly got lost into it. Any kind of organic, clear limitation that’s consistently used.
Red Rush was such a missed opportunity. In Invisibles', the super powers are somewhat leveld, sure Omniman is super man, but he does not have lazer eyes and isnt actually invincible. Spoiler for Red Rush bellow: Red Rush should have been the first to die. During the fight with the evil alien he shows that Red Rush can barely scratch him, still draws blood, but nothing that would kill. So what if Red Rush tries to attack, but all his punches simply bounce of, and then he goes to help his friends, play the support, but slowly as each of his friends start to perish and his efforts becomes more and more futile he slows down as his will to fight fades. If he failed to save any of his friends in the mascara, then in the end just stopped, with the will to fight gone, and the hope of survival snuffed out, he could still be the god tier speedster who can avoid any hit. But even with all the speed, winning is not the same as not loosing, and if he cannot run, cannot hide and cannot fight, then it does not matter how fast he is, speed will always come short in the face of overwhelming power. If Red Rush could dodge all the attacks of the evil alien yet still come short, then that would have made that whole scene so much better, and Red Rush would no longer need to get nurfed to be killed.
It’s honestly just depressing that the whole scenario thing you talked about, Reverse Flash making the Flash train harder and him needing to regain discipline, etc, is explored in a fucking LEGO Flash movie. It’s short, but that’s the overall theme of that.
Gorilla Grodd isn't as fast as the Flash but it is a gorilla with the Flash-level inteligence and brain! Red Rush can be killed permanently by anything what is fast enough!
I feel like an underrated take on speedster that DC should apply to the Flash in the movies is ironically from Marvel Studios as shown in the mixed movie The Eternals (2021) where Makkarri, the deaf speedster of the group has some of best speedster scenes in a movie and you really feel the momentum and impact of her speed as well make her speed for the most consistent and not too powerful without comprising the character when deemed necessary. The Flash's speed should be taken into consideration when writing the character and too often adaptations lose that consistency and right balance of suspension of disbelief and grounded, interesting speedster scenes. The Flash as a character deserves better and though I disagree with the notion that his villains being C-listers as their tech is designed to slow down the Flash making them adequate threats, I do greatly agree that Flash's speedster feats need to find that right balance and be taken into consideration when writing the character without putting too much plot holes like how the CW show made his powers staggeringly too inconsistent
When it comes to telekinetic or psychokinetic (espers) characters alot of times they have high reaction speeds and react to massive hypersonic things/events. However it needs to be mentioned so if a speedster fights a Esper, least we can say reaction close to speedster etc
Definitely season 1 and two of the flash made some sense sicne flash was still relatively slow as he was still a learner and needed massive distances to get up to crazier speeds but after the savitar arc it made no sense for him to struggle against anyone except another speedster
There’s a show called I’m a Gemini and has a girl there who has super speed but her draw back was that time always moved slowly around her and she just had too get used too it
Super speed does nothing against a person that controls what you can and can not perceive. Mental fatigue leads to mistakes. If you are limited to much you get Olympic sprinters. Not enough and you get Godspeed.
that 200mph top speed for Dash, its just a start, hes like 10 or something, his lets are around the size of Bobs hands or slightly longer, just imageine when he grows up (and if he grows up to be around the height of his dad, then thats an insane amount of speed increase) i can see him breaking the sound barrier
For my speedsters they're definitely with MCU quicksilver or Dash from incredibles territory of speed/ in the ball park of F1 and hypercars some become strong enough to get to Mach esqe speeds so progression is still attainable. Flash is far too overpowered and his progression is somewhat capped, and realistically he'd be able to stop any villain he comes across i love The Flash but the power fantasy is far too much
There’s some silly stupidity we should allow and there’s some that we shouldn’t. Even in children’s stories, supernatural abilities shouldn’t come without consequence
