    I wish I saw this video 24 hours ago before I bought "oil filled shocks" from Amazon for $50..... I could have spent $0.50 on a couple O-Rings instead... GOOD TO KNOW for the future! Thanks!

    Next time put the tape on the other way and it will not bunch up as you put the cap on.

    This is a wrong instruction.
    You can not fill the shock absorber with oil to the end without leaving air.
    There must be a lot of air, because only the air is compressible. The oil is not compressible. And when you fill the cylinder with full oil, when the piston is extended, when the plunger is inserted - the oil overflows to the other side, but there is less space - because there is a rod and the oil does not fit - so the shock will get high pressure and somewhere unsealed to push out excess oil. And it will be leaky. There must be air bag above oil!

  • @DeadlyDiddly
    @DeadlyDiddly 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    How do the O-rings stop the oil from leaking out if they aren’t fixed to the cylinder cap?

    • @HowToDIYRc
      @HowToDIYRc  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      simple the close of the opening around the shaft the Teflon tape stops the leak at the cap

    • @jdsreid
      @jdsreid 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I also don't understand the purpose of the orings. They will move inside with the shaft and won't help to seal oil from leaking out of the metal shaft hole in cap. Unless... I'm missing something? I ordered this rc car (wltoys 12428) and thinking about adding oil to existing shocks or new oil filled shocks.

    • @IlyaMatveev
      @IlyaMatveev 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      they are fixed actually, there is an extra plastic ring there to holld it from going to the cylinder. so the rings are held between cap and that plastic ring

    If you can't get the o-rings (or can't wait, like me😉), you can use any dense rubber material. I used some 1 ½" rubber anti vibration washers from a refrigeration compressor mount. Just use the shock body to trace out the shape, cut, and install.

    i tried this butt it does not work, if shock is compressed oil will leak out becouse the internal pump does not allow oil to move inside shock, it is desinged to work with air.

    • @HowToDIYRc
      @HowToDIYRc  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry jeroen you did something wrong the Teflon tape can get wet it needs to stay dry while your screw the cap on...

    • @razgriz3238
      @razgriz3238 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      no the problem is that oil cant compress and it has no place to go inside the supspension. way too mutch force is needed to move the supspension. (perhaps this mod also works to seal the air better)

    • @HowToDIYRc
      @HowToDIYRc  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      perhaps you can try it with just air and see if you like it, after all,

  • @jayryan7473
    @jayryan7473 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good helpful video. One correction: oil does NOT dissolve Teflon tape. It may look like it sometimes because when you are screwing on the fittings the threads sometimes cut small pieces of the Teflon tape. Then those little pieces get in the oil and it looks like they were dissolving. Just be sure the Teflon tape is wrapped around the threads and nowhere else.
