Each design that Link had in Smash Bros isn’t just a design change, but a separate character from the others. This means that the ‘Everyone is Here!’ tagline is a BIG FAT LIE! Twilight Princess Link is missing from the roster of playable characters because he was REPLACED with BotW Link.
3:33 What are you talking about? Even BOWSER has strengths (he has good edge guarding, strong attacks, is good out of shield, & has a command grab that can start combos on fast fallers & kill early). Most low tiers in Melee actually have alot of strengths but they just get held back by 1 or 2 very bad weaknesses (just like Mewtwo & his tail hurtbox).
Regardless of how good, or bad of course, Link may have been in any Smash game, he always was fun as hell to play as for me. Still is, in fact. All three of them in Ultimate, too! :D
I always have been torn between whether Link is cooler in 64 or Melee. Minus the terrible up B height, a lot of Link's options in 64 are straightforward and powerful. Toon Link is arguably the closest thing we have to 64 Link's play style. And in Melee, Link required a lot of skill to use, but he was just a really cool character and the new concept of multi-hit and charged up B was great (although I still prefer single hit aerial up B). He also had the coolest rapid jab and it was only in Melee. It was the first time Link felt like they had some weight to them and it was a character who you really had to understand how to play with that fast falling. Also, the Adventure mode stage for Link in Melee was one of my favorite things in a fighting game. Introducing the double slash forward smash was cool as it was and still is the only Smash attack that requires a second input and it looks very stylish... At the end of the day, I think most modern appearances of Link are in the same vein as Melee Link so 64 Link is my favorite for their unique and more fun traits.

64: Just plain ol' bad and is infimise for having the worst recovery in the Smash series. Worse than even Sm4sh Little Mac and Brawl Ganondorf. Melee: Not much better but is at the very least a much more improved version of his 64 counterpart and is known for being a very glichy character. It can be debated on whether he is better or worse than Young Link. Brawl: Back to bottom tier, despite a few changes being made to his kit. He is a downgrade compared to his Melee counterpart and is an absolute disappointment when compared to Toon Link. 4: Started off not being very strong, but he would end up getting a lot of buffs and an amazing representative in the form of T. Still not better than his Toon counterpart, but he is a massive improvement to both his Brawl and Melee counterparts. Ultimate: The overall changes to both the game mechanics and his kit would end up making this version of Link an easy high tier character. He is finally better than his Toon counterpart, but just like in Melee it can be debated on whether he is better or worse than Young Link. His bomb allows for some insane tricks and combos to be performed, and mastery of it is crucial to playing this character. While being miles ahead of the Link's from previous games, he ended up becoming much harder to master in the process (it can be debated on whether that's a good thing or a bad thing). Overall, not a bad character like in the past.
Smash 64 link is underated af, he definitely doesn't have a worse recovery than Mac, he's tied with gannon, also smash 64 dk had a worse recovery lol, dk gets edge guarded infinitely, while link atleast has a great hitbox and mixup, besides smash 64 ness also has a horrendous recovery that's slow af, don't get me wrong i think smash 64 link has top 3 worst smash 64 recoveries, but if we're talking compared to other smash games, it's easily gannon from ultimate or Mac from smash 4
Also Smash 64 is solidly balanced, and I've seen great link plays sometimes in competition, Yes Pikachu dominates Link and some other characters, but Link can hold his own or even win matches against people outside the top 2, pretty good, it just takes alot of practice, because smash 64 link has to stay on his toes alot defensively, and offensively he's one of the best characters in the game, having 2 godly projectiles and his amazing damage output with his normals, he's not as slow as you'd think compared to other iterations of adult Link in other smashes, Anyways Tangent aside I have high faith in Link across any smash game, I'd put him in 9th place on the tierlist in smash 64, which is low tier and not bottom, in melee he's low mid, brawl bottom tier lol, smash 4 he's high mid which is pretty good, and then ultimate where he's High High Tier, or A+, if brawl didn't exist, the pattern would work, the pattern of him getting better every smash game
